DO NOT GO HERE. The service manager, Damone, is a nightmare to work with and treats his employees terribly. I recently replaced all of my tires and wanted to get an alignment as a preventative measure. Before going to this location, my vehicle drove straight. I honestly considered not getting an alignment *because* it drove perfectly. But I've always been told to do the alignment anyway so that's what I did. Worst mistake. I dropped my car off in the morning of 8/16. Damone and I discussed I would be getting a full alignment and I left with my spouse while they took care of things. About 40 minutes later, I had 2 missed calls. I responded within 1 minute of missing them. I was told that my alignment was nearly done but my air filter was dirty. I said that's okay, I had one on order from Amazon and would be replacing it myself later this week. Damone accepts this and tells me my alignment is done. When I get to the shop, a different gentleman comes out and immediately tells me that my front left camber is off and I need to replace the camber bolts. He says this while showing me the print out of my alignment. They did all three wheels except for the front left wheel. Don't you think it would have made sense to call me BEFORE performing the alignment to tell me I needed to make repairs? Now not only do I have to make repairs, I have to get ANOTHER alignment. Brushing this off, I think to myself that I will have my dad take a look at the wheel and confirm what they said. He repairs just about everything on my vehicle anyway. So, I pay for the service and leave. When I drove home, my car no longer drives straight. It pulls SEVERELY to the right. Not safe at all. I call and Damone says to bring it back in. I bring my car back and Damone meets me outside, face mask off, and shows me the camber bolts. He says he wants to give me a deal because they acknowledged they did not go about this properly - he'll charge me for just the camber bolts, no labor, and they will re-do the alignment at no charge. I ask, how much? Damone says $70. And that's with or without labor? Without, he says. Meanwhile, we are looking this same set of bolts up on Amazon as he says this. They're less than $20 on Amazon and Damone wants to charge me $70 for them. I say no, absolutely not. Damone asks for my keys so he can check out the pull (which he never does) and me and my spouse go inside the shop and to the counter. The other gentleman returns and tries to give us the same run around but eventually brings Damone back. At this point, I am demanding a refund for the service I did not receive. Damone refuses and continues to try and confuse me, which he does horribly, and tries to make it seem like they are not at fault. He then tries to place the blame on the other gentleman who checked me out initially. The other guy did nothing wrong - he just checked me out and tried to up sell me and told me about the front left camber issue. Damone is the one that was in the wrong. As service manager and store director, it is his responsibly to ensure the store operates as a team. He failed in doing this when NO ONE notified me of this front left camber issue prior to service. Damone also did not mention it when he called me to tell me my filter was dirty and that my car was ready. Damone finally says he does not want to deal with me anymore and to call corporate. He says he cannot give me a refund because he "doesn't know how." A service manager that doesn't know how to give a refund? Lol, sure. Anyway, now I have to get in touch with corporate and hope that they aren't as awful as Damone. Needless to say, don't go here if you have other options. read more

This place is a joke. They put your car up on a lift and take the tires off so that you can't leave when you realize the customer service is shit. They quoted me under an hour for brakes and didn't touch my car for 2 HOURS. Plus an additional hour to do the brakes then they went on lunch. was a total of 4 1/2 hours while all the techs stood around and talked. Absolute joke. They should all be fired. read more

I cannot blame Yelp for the disastrous experience I had at Brake Check. I read all the negative reviews and following the voice of my unrealistic optimism I told myself that I was certainly going to have better luck than everyone else. WRONG. I was excited about getting a same-day appointment to get the brake pads & calipers replaced within 30' of booking it (it was a Monday at 3:30pm). I arrived at the store, approached the counter and stood there for a solid 3' before this employee named Gus decided to acknowledge me. I let him know that I had an appointment booked, hand the keys over to him even though at this point I was already feeling uneasy about them touching my car, and stood there next to the counter waiting for him to tell me anything, like how long it was going to take, or any details about the break job, anything. After about 4 minutes he asks me all exasperated, with a rude tone "Can I help you? You can take a seat over there" I waited for over 30 minutes, then asked him if they were going to be able to complete the job before closing. I wanted to ensure that they were not going to keep my car overnight because I live in Downtown, not in Katy. He acted as if I was the worst client he had ever dealt with, borderline scolded me, barked/explained that they did not have break pads in stock for my car and they'd have to get them from the dealership, and offered me a 10am appointment for the following day. Needless to say, I declined his offer and ran away. I drove straight to Master Car Care where I knew they would do a great job, and they did not fail me, but that's a story for another review. Do not go to brake check. They are more concerned with making a profit, than doing what is right. Instead of educating me that an alignment should not be done until my strut had been replaced they charged for the alignment, which left my steering wheel crooked. After I fixed my strut and returned to correct the steering wheel issue, they charged me for another alignment. I called corporate office and spoke with both customer service and the area VP, and no solution was offered. The VP said that it was company policy that people were charged if a bolt was turned, because he has to pay his technicians. I was not given any paper showing what my alignment was before or after, which is customary. When I asked about that, I was told they were having issues with their printer. This was a known issue according to corporate office, which tells me they are not concerned with their operations. Brake Check is not in the customer satisfaction business. Look other places for your automotive needs. read more

They tried to up charge me to a $600 job when I know what I needed. A woman got here after me, just walked in, and got out before me for what looked to be the same job. Do not go here. The little money you save will cost many times more. They use very poor-quality material (pads). The pads will wear quickly and after 10,000 miles. The warranty is meaningless because they will charge you for labor and overcharge for rotors and other misc. shop material if you go there to fix things that there are supposedly under warranty. Tried to talk to the manager but he is not interested in listening. Was told that I am entitled to my own opinion. In addition, they said they can replace the pads in 1-1.5 hours. It took 3 hours. Went in to get an oil change. They took my truck in and about 10 minutes later called me to tell me that I need an alignment because my front tires show wear. Interesting thing is, the tires were brand new. Less than 10 miles on them brand new... how in the world do they show signs of wear? Not to mention, I had just had my alignment checked the night before when I got the tires put on. I feel bad for the people who have been taken advantage of by them. Who knows how much money they have scammed off the innocent. Additionally. The used conventional oil in a truck that had only ever seen synthetic. Including the last three oil changes they did for me. And to top it all off, I could smell oil burning and when I pulled into my driveway my truck was smoking really bad. Opened the hood to find that they had spilled oil all over my engine bay. So now I'm left with an engine bay to clean, brand new oil to change again and a wasted Saturday morning. read more

I'm very busy myself and I wasn't able to come in any sooner and Give them a comment on how I wasn't satisfied with the alignment I received. The worker who was at the front could of worked something out for me .. I payed $80+ dollars for an alignment and all he had to tell me was "this is not a life time alignment, only a one time alignment so it has no type of warranty" It's really upsetting to hear something from such franchise, it's really upsetting how he could of tried to work something out with me, but he chose not to. I stopped in at Brake Check to have my shocks replaced, as it was definitely time. The service there was great! I was immediately met outside my car by Alex. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional. They got my truck right in and started work on it. Alex even drove my daughter and I to the closest movie theater, while they worked on my truck. When the movie was over, he picked us back up and my truck was ready to go. My truck drives smooth again!! Anyway, fantastic service and made the whole experience a good one! The other thing I noticed is how every one there worked together as a team and that is something I look for, being that I am a manager as well. When I called beforehand, the man said the new brake pads would cost $69 (didn't even mention the prorated warranty) and rotor resurfacing would cost $25 (price of one). I got here and the man showed me what was wrong with all brakes, but I told him I only needed the front ones repaired. Then he shows me NEW costs: brake pads $90 (lifetime warranty) and $50(rotor resurfacing). This was different pricing than what i was told on the phone. strike 1! I was watching the whole time while they were working on my car. He finished everything and began putting the tire back on, and he was jamming it in and broke one of the nails in the caliper. He brings me outside and tells me that it "accidentally" broke and a new one would cost me $80. Yeah right! I'm not paying that much. You better decrease the price. Strike 2! He made me wait there for two hours because the discounted price caliper would take awhile to get there. Strike 3! My car seems okay now, but if anything goes wrong they are gonna be yelled at by me. I wouldn't recommend this place. There weren't even many cars there and the lobby sucks. read more

I dropped off my truck to have the emergency or parking brake repaired as it would not pass inspections and hold the vehicle stationary when in drive. I received a call asking where my wheel lock was in the vehicle. I asked if he meant the key to locking lug nuts and he said yes. I told him there aren't any locking lug nuts. He was speechless. I should have known then this was going to be a fun experience. I received another call later to tell me the parking/emergency brake was fine and they found a leaking front brake cable when they performed a pressure test. I said the parking/emergency brake isn't fine because I tried it myself and it would not the vehicle. I also asked why they were messing with the hydraulic brake system since I did not authorize that and asked them to fix the mechanical parking/emergency brake. They were unable to replace the brake cable and said I could come pick the vehicle up so I did. I got my keys and invoice to leave. I noticed brake fluid all over the ground around my driver's side front tire. I started my truck and went to leave...there was no pressure on the brake pedal and it went to the floor. I went and got the manager so he could see. I told him it was not safe to drive without brakes and he said yes you need to tow it. Why? I drove the vehicle here with brakes and now I need to have it towed without brakes?!?! We then tested the parking brake which he said was fine. He agreed the parking brake needed repairs. Did you test it or not? I told you it needed to be fixed and you told me it was fine. You then went on to inspect and work on the rest of the brakes which I did not authorize. You managed to damage a brake cable and not take ownership of it. You blamed me and then couldn't fix it? I would not trust these guys with a kids Tonka truck. I have reported this location to corporate and will be speaking with a regional VP soon about paying for the repairs. read more

My girlfriend went in and did not feel comfortable with what they wanted to charge her. I went with her the next day to see if they would try it again. She has an old Mercedes SUV that is maybe worth $500 and they wanted to charge her about $400 to replace rotors which were not worn and had plenty of metal on them to last her a long time. It's easy for them to say they were out of spec but I made them take the calipers off so I could see. When I told the guy to just change the brake "shoes" he got a bit snarky telling me there are no "shoes" on the vehicle. OK, brake pads! I've changed brakes on so many family cars I have lost count. I grew up calling them shoes and the guy knew that I meant pads. I would have even known the difference if they were actual drum brakes (most cars over the last few decades are strictly shoes/pads now). Now that the guy is upset because I told him to just replace the shoes/pads they decided to take their time and use excuses like "Mercedes take a bit more time." They are just the same as if changing them on my new truck. It's not rocket science if you have ever changed them on your own before. Completely unprofessional attitude. I understand they are likely told to try and upsell everyone to get more money but when someone declines it they should just do what the customer wants. Especially if the customer's boyfriend knows a thing or two about brakes. I told her to never go there again and if it is needed, either I can replace them for her or take it to the shop I have used for decades when I had any major service done. So they convince you to put in new pads and discs, reface rotors etc. And THEN they use REALLY cheap materials. I had front brakes repaired, new pads, turn rotors, 2nd time for that, rebuild calipers and was charged $231. & change. I was told this would fix the problem( vibrating and squealing. Was also told the rear brakes were still within spec range but were close to needing to be replaced. I paid for the work and on my receipt, which I only looked at the amount at that time, I noticed later that there were notes stating that due to the condition of the rear brakes that these repairs would NOT fix the problem. I was lied to and deceived. I went through this romance 7 months prior and thought I would give this slimy company a chance to fix my brakes again. BAD MISTAKE!!!! I had a coupon, and the employee (Edward "LJ" Guy) took it- but did not take any value off the price. I took my vehicle for just an oil change. Being an elderly lady, I was guarded about being taken advantage of. They brought an air filter and interior air filter in to show me how dirty it was and offered to replace it. I responded that my husband would do that and I just wanted the oil changed. Immediately after I left, I heard noise from around my dash and a low rumbling noise from below my vehicle, similar to a hold in the exhaust system. I was in a hurry for an appointment with my husband at M.D. Anderson so I delayed returning to the business. Every time I drive my car now, I get irritated listening to the rumble. read more

They overcharge for basic mechanic work to the point that they are a rip off. I took my car in for brake work, which i agreed to the cost of repairs. Then they call me tell me i need a new altenator, and that its a 3 hr job and they can find a refurbished one for 270. I declined, went to Autozone, picked one up for 140, and installed it in less than an hour. The flag hours for that job are not 3hrs! The parts mark up was almost 100%. If they had quoted me a reasonable price , I probably would have let them install it, but they were greedy, trying to charge almost 500 dollars for a job that takes 45 mins and 140 dollars in parts . $800 in new tires gone in 8 months and 18K miles due to them being misaligned by this Brake Check shop. I filed a claim with their corporate and they said they would be in touch and I haven't heard from them. Not how I expected to be handled- especially after they inspected and found no other reason for the wear on my tires. Buyer beware- do not use their alignment services!! I am 7 months pregnant and my family can't afford to have to replace these tires again this year but I can't have my small children and newborn riding around on bald tires that should have lasted us 3 more years. So upsetting! Update- it took a while and constant follow up but they finally honored my claim and helped fix my problem. I can respect a company that owns its mistakes. I liked this place a lot. I've gone in 2-3 times recently due to issues with 2 cars at home. My 2003 4Runner started acting up one week. The first morning I turned it on and it seemed fine, but as soon as I pulled out of the garage, 4 different lights in the dash came on (brake check, trac off, and 2 other things I can't remember). The continuous beep scared me but I turned off the car and then turned it back on and the beeping stopped. I went about my day as normal without issues. The following 2 days, the same events occurred. I was concerned about possible issues and didn't want to know how much it might cost to get things fixed. Finally after speaking with my parents I was convinced to see a mechanic. I went to Brake check (since a few 'brake' lights had gone off) and I told the guy at the front desk what the most upfront issue was: the continuous beeping and the lights that were on in the dash. I gave him the keys and he took the car for a test drive. He came back within 5 minutes and suggested that perhaps the fluids needed to be topped off. So they checked the fluids and when the guy returned he told me they topped off the engine fluids and that I was good to go. I asked how much it would cost and he said nothing. Apparently this was a minor thing and they just got it straightened out and that was that! Another time I needed my car inspected, the first inspecting was a failure - my emergency brakes were old and dried up. I took it to these guys and they told me 2 options - fix the current brakes so they could pass inspection ($60ish), or replace them (around $300). He said that if they did not pass inspection with the first (cheaper) fix, to just come back, let them know we had come earlier in the week, and they would fix the cost for the more expensive repair by deducing what I had already paid for the cheaper fix. Pretty good deal. We did the cheaper fix and it passed inspection! We didn't have to return to get the new brakes and this business earned our trust and respect. Both men that I worked with were very helpful and I didn't feel like they were taking me for a ride (getting duped). Being a woman and going to a mechanics I am never fully confident that mechanics are being honest with me, I expect to be swindled, but then I usually have them speak with my dad (who knows about mechanics and does basic car repairs for his, my mother's, and mine). I would recommend this place to anyone that asked for recommendations for car service! read more

First time getting service here today. the people are very very nice and friendly. Was a little disappointing at the end when I went and paid, it was almost double what I was quoted to install a set of headlights, change transmission fluid and replace wiper blades. I was quoted $30 for installing the lights and was charged $75, then I was quoted $89 for transmission flush and was charged the $89 plus an additional 'kit' fee of $120. All very good service, but prices should have been closer to what I was quoted or discussed with me prior to performing the work if they changed. would have gone to jiffy lube for the $49 transmission flush instead of the $200 plus I got charged here. It seems price gauging is a common theme here, should have checked reviews first. :( read more
