I've been bringing my 2007 Chevy cobalt here for at least 5 years. I trust John with providing me honest service. He has let me know when I can wait on certain service items and what should be done as soon as possible. My car is nearing the 200,000 mile mark and I intend to get it as close to 300,000 as possible. It has run great despite my ability to hit curbs, potholes, etc. I am also religious about bringing it in once I know it needs an oil change. Then of course brake masters offers their free brake check, air check, etc. I haven't needed any major repairs on my car until this past year and John has made the process easier on my budget. Besides letting me know what to take care of now and what to wait on, Brake Masters offers coupons, then John has thrown in some minuscule services such as a new air filter since mine was gross. I've never once felt pressured or uncomfortable with any communications. I've also worked comfortably onsite during most of my services. There's WiFi and coffee available as a courtesy, plus generally great movies playing. When I haven't waited on-site, I've gotten call updates/advisement about anything new, as well as prompt calling when my car is done. Then of course, I always pick it up prior to close. Anyway, completely happy with John and this Brake Masters. John has great care for his customers and is detailed about his service. (To be honest, I brought my car once about 2 years back and John wasn't here and the service wasn't as wonderful. Now I always call ahead to make sure John is working.) read more

Shocked. Disappointed in the 'Car Salesman' atmosphere at this location. Had a coupon for a $29.99 oil change and of course I expected the...oh you need a new filter, you need the more expensive oil or a new this or that which I did not do nor did my vehicle truly need. But the kicker is when the salesman rang me up, it was over $50. The salesman explained that the ''coupon" was made before the price of 'oil' when up. Hmmmm, what a load of BS. I will NEVER go back to this location or use another Brake Masters. There are other places to go, this bait and switch crap is unacceptable. read more

This is a review of Brake Masters #109 at 260 W Ina Rd., Tucson. Having spent at least $2,000 there in the last year alone, I foolishly came back and almost got royally screwed with a request to repair my truck's inoperative windshield wipers. They said in order to provide an estimate, several hours of investigation would be required resulting in a $120 cost in order to provide an estimate. I agreed and paid the $120 resulting in their estimate of $1,055 to complete the repair, labor and materials. This morning I went to another local car repair company that quickly inspected the mechanism without charge and found the presence of an rat nest in the gears, quickly cleaned it out, thus returning the mechanism to a fully operational condition. The total was $80 and less than 30 minutes of my time. It is clear to me now that Brake masters store #109 and its manager, Mark, set forth to screw a previously loyal customer and nearly did. We took my girlfriend's car in for an oil change. We unfortunately missed their call letting us know that the car was ready for pick up and when we got back there to pick it up we found the car parked unlocked in the right turn lane leading onto San Antonio with nobody in sight. When we went into the lobby to pay for the service and collect the key, we were ignored while the attendant sat on the couch and reorganized some magazines on the coffee table. While the service was friendly when we got there, it became much more cold when we came back. I had my car serviced their earlier in the day and when I picked it up it was locked and parked appropriately. Later that day her car was parked illegally and left open. Apparently if you miss their call and don't buy a new air filter, they are going to leave your car on the streets. read more

If you're thinking about going here - don't. I took a 2005 Chevy Blazer for their $69 front end alignment (which is actually $89 for trucks). They said they wouldn't do an alignment, that the front end components all needed to be replaced - at a cost $3,500. Yes, three thousand five hundred dollars. They saints everything needed to be replaced, including control arms, not just new CA bushings, all the control arms. I left and went to Chet's Alignment Shop on Menaul. Not only did Chet's align it to spec, they said it only needed two parts replaced, for a total cost of $250, if I chose to get the work done, but it was in spec and safe to drive. These guys upsell everything, I would highly advise anybody thinking about going here, to go somewhere else (unless you have a couple thousand you need to get rid of). read more

My family has entrusted John, Hector and the crew to our vehicles for two decades without an issue. They inspect thoroughly and then recommend a fix for the key problem while offering other recommendations for future maintenance without being pushy. The staff is knowledgeable, offering good background for the issue at hand for those with interest. With weekly coupons, the price of minor work like oil changes, brakes, and other radiator flushings is competitive. We have also had John and crew do several larger jobs with great results. In the couple of instances where a few more adjustments or even removal of engine components was needed to make additional adjustments, they gladly accomplished the work on their dime. Because they get a fair amount of business you may need to drop off the car for the day, but that's anywhere with the metro continuing to grow vertically now (i.e., apartments and retirement complexes). John is awesome :) He explained what my car needed, the prices, and didn't pressure me into anything. Being that I don't know much about cars, maintenance always makes me worried and scared to trust anyone. Sad, I know. I brought my Toyota in after getting my oil changed at American Toyota last week. At American, they told me I need my brakes "cleaned" $55, brake fluid flush $130, and other $$$ things that needed to be done that had a grand total of $450!! Showed a friend of mine the "list" who said American was trying to upsale me. Okay so Monday, 4 days following my American visit, my brakes start acting up. I had been to this Brake Masters before and thought they could at least tell me what's up. Turns out, its my rotors that needed turning. Nothing else. $80 compared to $450?! I had Brake Masters replace the brake booster on my 1995 Lexus SC400, and perform a fuel injection cleaning. The Service Writer/Manager was knowledgeable and work done promptly. The injector cleaning improved the car's performance considerably. But the brake work wasn't done properly; when I picked the car up the brake didn't engage until the pedal was down more than 2". It was quite disconcerting to have to press so far before anything happened. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take it back, I was headed out of town. I ended up adjusting the pedal rod myself when I arrived in Colorado, a simple 10 minute affair. Why it wasn't adjusted properly, or a test drive didn't reveal the problem, I don't know. read more

Don't waste your time and money going to this place. I took my car in for an express oil change advertised with a coupon and they ended up charging me more than a regular oil change elsewhere. The manager was rude and told me that the coupon is just a way to get customers through the door...??? apparently my vehicle required extra oil and a special oil filter so they went ahead a proceeded with it without checking with me first. I made an appointment and took in a family vehicle. I specifically asked them to change the front and back brake pads REGARDLESS of condition. I left the car. They eventually called me back and said I needed new tires, but didn't mention the brake pads. I asked about the brake pads and they said they were "fine" and didn't need to be replaced. Wrong answer. When I take my vehicle in to a place called "Brake Masters" and tell them that I want the brake pads replaced REGARDLESS of condition, I expect them to be able to follow through. I will never recommend or use this company again. They wasted my time and money. read more

Very unprofessional and terrible service. I went in for a simple alignment after a tire rotation. There was no difference in the alignment after I was told the car drove fine when they tested it. I came back the next day and was told they forgot to tell me that it was my tires that needed to be checked. I took it to the store I bought my tires from and had them recheck my alignment and saw that it was never properly aligned in the first place. I called brake masters back and the manager was very rude and felt the need to keep talking over me. Needless to say, I will not be going to a brake masters again. read more

Called to make an appointment at 2:45 PM, was told I didn't really need one as they weren't busy at the moment. Got there at about 3:10. Told John, the Store Manager, what I needed done and that I was on a fairly tight budget. After inspecting the car, John told me I would need new brake pads and strongly suggested a new rotor for the front right; he knew I was on a tight budget which is why the new rotor was a suggestion, not an absolute. Thankfully I was able to get the pads and rotor with what money I did have available. Big thing was that John didn't try to nickel and dime me to death, trying to get me to buy this and that or saying I absolutely needed something to get more money out of me because he knew I was on a tight budget and respected that. Total time there, inspection and brake pad + rotor replacement was about 2.5 hours. Great service, and John truly cares about his customers... while waiting he called someone who had work done that day; John called because he genuinely cared to hear the customer's opinion on the work that was done! Would recommend going to this location, Store 138 on San Antonio, to anyone. Whether it be for brake change or anything else. I remember coming to this place. My request was to check my back brakes. Than the man behind the counter suggested I replace my rotors as well. I kept repeating to him I just want my back brake pads replaced. After 5 minutes of working himself up. And went into a rage and demanding I get rotors to the point where he was being abusive and degrading to me in front of all the male customers. I was the only female in the lobby. He got so worked up that another customer offered to pay for the rotors just so he would stop the whole uncomfortable situation. I told the other customer, he needs to understand I want to get what I want to pay for. He finally went into where the bays were and I had to watch him to make sure he would not destroy anything on my truck or break off my rotors. This is man was insane. I was frightened but I did not show it. I never have been had a experience like this in my life. This is the first time I had to share my experience. I tried to call another store and explain my experience. Of course I never got a call back. I hope that person is not working there anymore. I would hate for anyone to have a manager that is abusive as he was. read more
