I was referred to Break Masters by my co-worker for breaks. After getting my breaks done, I felt Break Masters were the most honest and efficient auto service provider I had ever came across. I recommended my husband to them and they took care of his breaks for a lot less then another shop closer to our home. We now get oil changes from them regularly. This past weekend they really out did themselves. My battery died while we were running errands. By chance the car turned back on after a few tries and we drove directly to Break Masters. Sal quickly checked the car and told me I needed to replace the battery. After another mechanic swore it was the starter (not from Break Masters). Instead of Sal trying sell me a battery there so he can make money, he directed me to Costco (I asked for Costco since I had purchase my previous battery there) to get a replacement battery. He then installed the battery at no cost. I was able to enjoy the rest of Saturday afternoon. Great customer service with true honesty goes a long away. Spent over $1000 on repair work--including a basic oil change. Went to start up the car and the coolant light was flashing. Ran to get the mechanic who had to pour an entire container of coolant in the car. Said I was good. Tried starting the car again--and this time, the oil light was flashing! Had to run back in again to get the mechanic who came out w a can of oil and said I just needed to be 'topped off'. I go to the mechanic, didn't I just pay for an oil change!?! His reply, sorry-guess they just forgot to fill the fluids back up!! Seriously??! 2008 Toyota Sequoia - took it in for my wife to have the brakes inspected and knew that the fronts were pretty much a goner. Dropped it off at 8 a.m. and took off on my bike to work down the street. Sal called me around 50 minutes later to go over the quote. Said front need to be changed, and the back ones have life, but one of them is wearing out unevenly. He came across honest that he was basically notifying me about the rear brakes and it was recommended to replace, but not required. After a very heavy spending prior weekend on a family trip, I opted to have the front brakes taken care of. He also noted that my oil was low and air filter was dirty. I did opt to have the air filter replaced and the oil I would check it out. No pressure to do anything, just plain old information. Service done: - Replaced front brake pads, resurfaced/machined front rotors - Air filter replaced Result: I was very happy with the rates and the discount Sal gave to me without even offering (I already had a back pocket online coupon to use). So far in my quick 5 minute drive, all is well. The only reason why they didn't get 5 stars was as I was about leave, I noticed that my aftermarket wheel lock was nowhere to be seen. A quick drive up and question, they produced it on the push cart. Basically the technician forgot about it (this has happened before many times at other places) and it can be a big deal if you end up getting a flat somewhere and the lock is nowhere to be found. A minor mistake that can leave major issues....the older gentleman was very nice and apologize the oversight. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I'd be glad too! Sal was great and courteous over the phone. I came in to get a free brake inspection for my '11 Mini Cooper. The price they quoted me was a good 50 bucks cheaper than the other two places I went to get an estimate. And for lifetime warranty on the brake pads? Sold. The only reason I'm not giving five stars because I think he may have jumped the gun and assumed I would proceed with the replacement. So it's like they are proceeding with it without my consent. Good thing the price they quoted was the cheapest or I wouldn't have been a happy camper. Other than that, he was sweet and offered good advice and added in discounts. These clowns "fixed" my brakes. I had all brake pads replaced and rotors replaced in the front. Only to have them squeak a few days after the job. I returned to have them looked at. The owner told me that they "fix" the problem and it is common for "new" brakes. Well, once again they were not fixed. They continued to squeak and make noise. Now the third time bring them back. The owner pulls me outside so his other customers can't hear my frustration and tells me, "well we can't fix the problem, so you might as well take it somewhere else." I originally took my Tacoma truck to Rancho Santa Margarita Toyota to have the front shocks replaced. I was quoted $150.00 to have the work done, but they soon called back to say it was going to be $300.00 per side. That's $600.00 for a job that started off at $150.00 for both sides. Needless to say, I picked up my truck without having the work done. I was recommended to call Brake Masters to see if they could do the work. I am glad I took that recommendation, they did the work for the $150.00 I was originally quoted from RSM Toyota. The work was done quickly and they even installed the strut new strut caps for no additional money. This place will have my future business for sure. Third Strike. Dishonest tactics. First time I had my front rotors turned on the car and strangely after 100-ish miles backing plate started to rattle. One of the 3 bolts had come out. Odd for a new car. Replaced bolt myself and made sure all bolts on both left and right side backing plates were correctly torqued. Next time in when I needed rotors turned again, the following weekend, I checked the backing plate bolts again and miraculously one of the bolts had slightly backed out. Hmmm. This last time I paid for front brakes and full fluid exchange because I just didn't have time to do myself. He stuck head under hood as if doing something but brake fluid was obviously not touched. Still dark gold (3 years old, I know bad me) after the service. Third strike, your out. read more

I visited the Lake Forest location and Honestly, I feel tricked. I came in for an oil change and was told that I should have my alignment checked and when I refused Sal told me that he'd check it for free. When he told me I needed an alignment adjustment, I said I have to come back when I have the money. Then he told me he'd have to charge me for checking the alignment which he originally said would be free. Now I'm paying double what I had planned to spend on something I didn't want. I went here to get my back brakes done and they quoted me $169. I had a $20 coupon that I downloaded from their website. I figured with the coupon it was $149, so not bad even though I usually pay less with my normal mechanic, but i needed them done quickly. When I went to pay they wouldn't let me use the coupon because they said they had quoted me the price with $40 off already. Had I known the price was actually $209, i would have went elsewhere. I wasn't looking to pay that. They said, "you're brakes have a lifetime guarantee". Big deal. They all have a lifetime guarantee. Never bought any that didn't. They also told me that both the front and rear brakes were bad, so I asked to see them and the front weren't even to the warning pin yet. Lots of miles left to go.
