I love the Mechanic. Perhaps there are other places that I could go that would charge less for what I need, but honestly, I don't mind paying a little bit since they are honest and transparent with what needs to get down with my car. I took my car in to their new location & was planning on waiting in the lobby with some schoolwork to attend to. The gentlemen gladly offered me a loaner car to drive to a coffee shop and wait there until my car was ready. I've been driving around on a blown out ball joint. I took my truck into Mechanic OC to have it looked at months ago when I first felt issues - called out the rumbling of the steering wheel, and they told me it was all clear. Not until I brought my truck to a different mechanic, did I find out about the ball joint issue. Nester and the wonderful woman at the front office are so helpful,they send you a detailed list with pictures and ratings on how urgent specific maintenance may be and then talk you through each step without making you feel rushed or pressured.I also have never felt forced or like they were trying to scare me into doing more work on my car than needed. They were very thorough in going over all the issues they found and prioritize all of them in order of what needed to be done immediately to what could wait. I was getting my car checked out for a move several states away and needed to be sure I could drive safely without spending several thousand dollars on repairs immediately. I had gone to the dealer first and with them, everything was urgently needing to be done. I appreciated the insight and attention to my concerns. It also turned out that I somehow had 2 different tire sizes on my car and when the dealer rotated the tires, they caused an issue with the steering that I only noticed after leaving this business. I had driven straight from the dealer to here so didn't notice the issue. I took the car back to The Mecahnic OC questioning what they had done since I didn't have the issue before and they discovered the issue with the one tire. They put the tire in a different location and the issue was solved. They didn't charge me for this and it was much appreciated. I would recommend them 100%. I am very tempted to give The Mechanic OC 5 stars and upon further work with them I will update my review as needed! I brought my car in for brakes and a 100K service. I was also having some shakes in the car that needed to be checked out. I love my car and I honestly believe that most mechanics try to make you do more than you need to do to your car when you bring it in for any sort of service. The Mechanic OC was very detailed in their report and did not push unnecessary services. I was greeted at the desk for drop off and allowed to wait in the lobby, which is very small and has very few amenities but is serviceable, while they did the initial check up on my car, which takes about an hour and a half. They then sent me a report that had each item that needed to be addressed listed with the severity of the need as well as photos and videos to accompany. For example, the shakes in my car were because my motor mounts were broken on one side, and there was a video showing me exactly how loose that was when the engine was on - which was kind of terrifying but i formative and effective. The breakdown details the amount of labor cost as well as the parts. They offered suggestions on things that needed to be done and let me pick and choose if it wasn't imperative. As noted with the motor mounts, one side was broken, the other side was not, and as I was on a budget I was able to just replace the one side and we are keeping an eye on the other, to I can come back and fix them at a later date with the quote that I was given. Overall, I had a positive experience and feel the work they did, almost 2 weeks in, was great. I will be bringing my car back to The Mechanic OC in the future and even recommended it to my parents. read more

I used this firm today to repair a major radiator leak on my 2016 Mercedes Benz. They did a great job at a very fair price. Initially I had gotten a quote from MB in Lake Forest dealership for $2100. I paid $1360 for the same work here at Mechanic OC. Diana is their receptionist & do everything office manager & she is really good. Very pleasant, personable and professional. When I picked up my car she asked me if I would like to see the parts that were actually replaced - they were laid out so I could see them & when asked, Diana explained the parts. That's a first for me in that I've never been offered the opportunity to see what parts needed to be replaced in any of my cars. Recently this car passed 100k miles and threw a code that the manufacturer locked behind a paywall. In short order, Mechanic OC diagnosed this (free of charge) and directed us to the manufacturer. It then took that manufacturer two days to diagnose/clear their own code!
