Went out here to support the VHS band and it was a great reminder to why we enjoy this place. First off, the band - always amazing :) Second, what a venue. Coming out here and I loved the fact that they were sooo supportive of our daughter coming with us. It was a full house and they were still able to be accommodating. With our daughter, it gets tough b/c they couldn't sit us at the bar. They talked with a couple at the sofa area and they were super cool with us being close by. Between the super awesome old fashioned and wine they gave us, I loved how creative and unique they are with their menu. Overall, this place is such a win. We look forward to our next visit! After being a frequent patron under the old ownership, I was excited to be back. It is likely that I will not be back after tonight. Our party of 2 waited over 7 minutes to be acknowledged by a server who asked if we knew what we wanted. I asked about specials. She proceeded to tell us that she had been in the back of the house and not in the front and did not know what they were. She was not aware there were specials and I pointed out that we saw them on the Facebook page. She then went to the one of the owners behind the bar and proceeded to spend a few minutes getting the specials. She then came back to tell us the food specials but did not know the drink specials, which I also knew existed because it was on the Facebook page. She then came back and told us about a tasting that could then be upgraded to a full pour with a cheese meat plate. We received our first wine which she did not really know the name of not any description of it saying " it is a red". We tasted it. She said, I'll go get your second tasting, which she said I think is a white. Can't say I've seen wine tastings that give you the red and then the white. But since we never received our second drink, I guess we don't know what type it was. We waited 30 minutes from the time we walked in till the time we decided to exit, never having received anyone to take our order nor our second glass of wine. We did see the server go help another table. As we left, she was behind the bar, looking at a recipe making cocktails with the assistance of one of the owners. I spoke to the owner who had come by and introduced himself earlier that it looked like it was not going to work for us to night and after 30 minutes we were going to leave We received no apology. No, how can I help make this right? It just felt like a dismissive acceptance of our terrible service. Do not go to the "New" Branches, expecting the same wonderful service from the past. Maybe time and training will help. We then left and went to the bar and LongHorn where we received friendly, appreciative service and delicious apps and beverages. read more

I love Branches! I've been a couple times now, and the environment is so great. The staff is so friendly, and it feels like being in a friend's home when you're there. They have seating options for alarge group or an intimate date night. The variety of wine options are great, and you can build your own flight to try several. I can't recommend ordering food enough. Their charcuterie is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Their seasonal flatbreads and sandwiches are incredible too; you can't go wrong no matter what you order. read more

I have visited this place many times and tonight was a big disappoint with the new ownership. They are very inexperienced with how to run a restaurant and this being as small a place as it is makes it more difficult to why this didn't run smoother. After a 25 min wait before even being acknowledged the waitress came over and we asked what specials were, she had no clue, of wine names or drink specials, then she brought 1/2 of a sampling and never came back, the owner finally came by our table to explain they have a new fb page, but nothing got resolved and when we decided to leave, the owners did not offer any way of offering to fix the issue, after all tables were full we decided to leave because we never even got our food order placed, they need a lot of training. The ambiance is amazing. They have several high top tables. They have great service, great food, and excellent tasting wine - a triple win!! I had a Happy harvest flatbread and it was delicious. It has arugula, bacon, apples, caramelized onions, brie, and glazed pecans. I strongly suggest a wine flight - it allows you to try and figure it what you like. The Almond wine was amazing! OMG this place is amazing! This is a small spot in Chesapeake that you must try. It's modern and clean and the people are SO personable. I've been twice...once for a wine pairing event and the second time for lunch. Both times have been wonderful. I will definitely be attending another event. Went back with my husband for lunch. He had some bourbon beverages and I had a wine flight. The pours were plentiful, where I had to leave my car and come back . The food was also delicious. I visited Branches to have a long, drawn-out visit with a friend last night before she moves away from Coastal Virginia. Branches was the perfect spot to sit and catch up. We kept the wine flowing and ordered an assortment of apps throughout the evening as well. It wasn't crowded, so we didn't feel rushed or rude for taking our time. The service was personable and friendly. I was impressed with every bit of our experience here! The happy hour special is $5 off bottles, and I think $2 off glasses of wine. It was easiest to just split a bottle and cheeseboard to start. We enjoyed everything on the cheeseboard. I always love when honey is added. There was a delightful combination of sweet, savory, salty, and some spice. Then we shared the meatballs after basically lusting over someone's meatball sub (on pretzel bread) when it came out of the kitchen. Finally, we finished with their dessert of the day, which was a chocolate temptation cake. Omg. It melted in our mouths, and I'll be craving another piece for a long time. Heavenly!! There was an assortment of couples, friends, and solo visitors throughout the evening. Only one person working for both the kitchen and I think back of the house too, but she had an excellent flow down, and we never felt ignored or forgotten. A friend and I checked this place out for a wine date and I'm so glad I did! We both ordered our own flights and the woman that helped us noted what we each preferred in wine and customized our flights. We were both very happy with our flights and I found some standouts in my flight. We shared a charcuterie board which came with three meat options and three cheese options. It was perfect for grazing but also turned about to be a lot of food for 2 people. I ended up taking the leftovers home with me. I found everything I tried went well with my glasses of wine. The atmosphere inside is really chill and comfortable. The only thing that I would note is that it took some time to get our initial order in and a couple reminders for glasses of water. Cute little wine bar with a great selection of beer, cider, and wine. They have a great menu of small bites as well - flatbreads, sandwiches, dips, cheese & meat charcuterie. Came in to get some work done and enjoy a glass of wine while I waited for my daughter's 2 hour dance class to finish. Ended up getting a fig & pig flatbread and a bottle of red-there was too great of a special to only get one glass. I was able to bag up the rest of the wine bottle and bring it home. The flatbread was AMAZING! Had the right balance of fig balsamic to prosciutto. The arugula gave it a great peppery finish. There was only one person running the shop and she handled the 7 tables that came through flawlessly. It was good that it was staggered enough for her to assist. The staff is extremely helpful and attentive. Each time we have visited they have created custom wine tasting flights for us based on our preferences and each time we are blown way by several of the wines they select for us. Branches is a phenomenal local wine bar in the western branch area of Suffolk/Chesapeake. Our experience was nothing but top notch. The employees are very knowledgeable and very friendly, the recommendations are spot on, the wine (isn't this why you're here?) is exquisite, and the atmosphere mixes posh wine culture with a humble civility and a down to earth small town attitude. My wife and I came with our 3 month old as I had heard great things about Branches from some friends. We didn't know how it would go with a little one, so we went before the evening crowd came in. The establishment itself is somewhat small but it feels pretty large and open when you're sitting down with friends at a table. We chose to take the couches in the back (just in case we had to quickly step into the restroom for an emergency!) and were greeted by a very friendly employee soon after. We discussed the types of wine we enjoy and she brought us over some samples. We picked our favorite and had a glass on the way in no time. We mulled over the menu for some tasty items but decided against eating (the food looked great, but we didn't want to ruin our appetite for dinner that evening). As we approached the halfway point of our glasses of wine, we noticed that more people were coming in and that a band was beginning to setup their equipment. We also noticed a number of families and some other little ones come in that helped put us at ease. We had many patrons as well as employees walk by and say hello to our little girl which helped us feel welcomed (new parents have to learn this sometime, right!). After another 30 minutes or so, we decided to head on out as they were beginning to get busy. All in all, great experience and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone! read more

This was my first visit, and I loved it! It was clean and spacious yet still managed to feel intimate. The staff was very nice, friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. You can get wine by the glass or bottle. They also offer flights. I tried two reds and had both the charcuterie and cheese board. Everything was delicious! The music was very nice and the decor is lovely, which makes for a charming effect. There was also live music that started at 6:30. The whole experience was nice; however, I did notice that I received water in a small plastic cup, while the other guests had a water glass. Not a big deal but I noticed...lol. I took my friend here , along with 5 other friends for her 30th birthday. I had requested a board be made and a table be reserved for us . When I arrived a table was set and the staff immediately began asking me when I want the board to come out , if I have any decor I want to add to it , if I needed help setting up my decor . They were so inviting !! When the birthday girl arrived they even played "happy birthday to you" over the speakers for her ! They made sure our glasses were never empty , and had great wine suggestions. The board was beautiful and full of sweet and salty snacks . We felt very loved and tended to during our visit . The food is the the main reason to come here. They provide a great selection of tasty meals and a nice wine selection. Beer and cider are not really their thing, but they have a small list of some decent options. It's all bottled or canned, nothing on draft. The reason for the 2-stars is the service. The service is the problem. I've been here three times and two of the three times I had the exact same experience. It starts off friendly and decent, but quickly goes downhill to the point where I've had an empty drink for over 15 minutes, and no other beverage like water, while eating my food. Servers continued to pass by, ignoring my empty glass and anything else that needs to be cleared from the table. Both times I eventually gave up and asked for the check without getting another drink. They make you feel like they don't really care that you're there. The one decent experience was mid-afternoon on a Friday when there was only one other table, and a server I did not see the other two times. I don't recall her name, but she was attentive, talked to us about wine and brought refills of pita and veggies for our hummus plate. I really want to like this place. The food is consistently good, and it's the only place in the area that's not a dive or chain. Third time is a charm for me now. No reason to go back unless I'm doing takeout and don't have to worry about the more than likely poor service. read more
