We've found some really great ones and some also not so great. I will have to say that I am incredibly pleased with the care and affection that the SVH team provides our family. The front staff are always pleasant to speak with in person and via phone. They always return my calls or try to answer any questions I may have. They can get busy at times but make the effort to fit you where possible/and as needed. The doctors that I've met so far are great in the sense that they don't try to upsell you on products/services or make you feel like a bad owner if you decide not to utilize their recommendations. One of our dogs has severe allergies and we've had him tested and found out the results, we've had other vets try to guilt us into trying to push their testing services or preferred drugs which typical wouldn't work because our dog has two types of allergies that can't be eliminated due to the other dogs in the house transferring their allergens to him. SVH never tried to force us into their testing services or make us feel bad in anyway. They always try to provide solutions as an option if we wanted addition insight on things. They are reasonably priced (compared to what we've paid at other vets). They have a beautiful new facility that is very spacious, especially when we bring our three large dogs at one time which is great. Their staff and technicians always go above and beyond to love on our pups. Overall, this is a great group of people. It makes me happy to find a place of business that does what it's supposed to do and treat people with courtesy. I wished I snapped a photo but the little details they do are above and beyond, like having a cute little sign welcoming Lucky and Harley to their appointment. Small things there just make me happy.

The techs are great and know my animals by name. We recently made the very hard decision to say goodbye to our beloved dog and Dr. Emily was patient, gentle and caring. She took care of my baby like she was her own and comforted me in the process. All of the vet techs are so so so pleasant, helpful, and clearly care about the pets in their care. Before even entering the room, we overheard Dr. Rhoades asking a vet tech why she 'had' to see the German Shepherd, clearly expressing a personal bias or fear regarding the breed. Once she entered, she remained in the far corner of the room and didn't approach our dog instead opting to throw treats from a distance. Our dog was completely calm--no barking, growling, or aggression of any kind. To have a veterinarian act visibly frightened and dismissive of a patient based solely on breed is unacceptable. If a provider is unable to professionally handle specific breeds, they should not be seeing them. I would not recommend Dr. Rhoades to anyone, especially those with Shepherd mixes.

You can tell they truly pay attention to each animal as an individual--they were caring, attentive, and thoughtful about each cat's specific needs. They also did an amazing job working with each cat's personality to ensure a smooth experience and to prevent unnecessary stress. Because of how they managed things, I feel confident our cats will have a better boarding experience in the future. Had both a vet appointment and boarded our dogs there…read more Let's just say this was the absolute worst experience I have had boarding my dogs. Vet appt was mediocre. Had to pay for 2 exam fees. Neither dog got an exam. They gave them there influenza shot and sent us on our way. Boarding... when we dropped off we had concerns. We asked to see the kennel where the dogs were kept and it wasn't very nice. There was active animal pee on the ground and extremely loud. None of the animals were settled. Whatsoever. The blankets they give dogs are paper thin. Thank goodness we brought our own. On the 3rd day of our dogs getting boarded we get a call that they have run out of food. How is that possible if I packed 12 bags for 5 days and they eat once a day. I packed for 1 extra day just in case. The workers never read the instructions and did whatever they wanted. They fed them twice a day and they weren't even eating. No call nothing. Until they ran out. They offered purina- which my dogs can not eat. They did go out and buy their dog food from tractor supply. But after such the manager acted as if I should be grateful for such a doing. The following morning I get another phone call. Miraculously one of my dogs has a cut under her eye and she needs emergency medical attention but no vets are in but I can pay for them to take her to an emergency vet. They tried to blame my other dog which is insulting enough. We cut our trip short and had a friend go get our dogs out of this place that day. Not only that. I drove my dogs 3 hours to the university (Virginia Tech) to have them evaluated and the one dog professional stitched up by the surgical team to also be told it was not from another dog. Do not board your dogs here.

I called and left a message for the vet to call me. She did not call until the next morning, at which time I informed her we had to put our cat down. (We were fortunate enough to find an at home vet who was able to come out the same afternoon). I was so disappointed with the lack of response from the Vet on an animal who was obviously very sick. The only follow up since that time has been 2 emails reminding me my prescription was still ready to order. I have asked them twice now to take me off the mailing list. Hopefully , we will not receive other reminders for this prescription.
