This is a cute little place with amazing food! I got the vegetarian burrito without sour cream & cheese. A lot of places usually make my burrito very tiny but at Brasas it was completely full! It was a regular sized burrito which I appreciated. It was also very good! My other coworker got steak tacos & she said it was delicious! & the other one got a chile relleno & a steak sope. Absolutely phenomenal. We visited on a cold, dreary Chicago day in between visiting the Garfield Park Conservatory (free and definitely worth checking out!) and the Frank Lloyd Wright House and Studio (spend, but worth it). This place is busy at lunch and there are only four tables, so I'd highly suggest going at off peak hours or planning on getting your food to go. We lucked out that a table turned over just as our food was done. We ordered a steak torta platter that came with a torta the size of your face. I can only guess that they either make their own bread or that they buy it from a local panederia because it was fantastic--a bit crispy on the outside, but tender on the inside. All the flavors worked together beautifully with the torta. Others have posted photos to Yelp... check it out! We also ordered a fish taco that was just delicious. Fresh fish (not fried) on a corn tortilla with your typical "slaw" that included cilantro and a wedge of lime. The best fish taco I've ever had, hands down. A very authentic Mexican restaurant with unbelievable prices. We spent $12 on all this food and had plenty. Next time I'm in town, I'll be back! read more

I don't like to support business with shady business practices. How is 2 vegetarian tacos $2 more than 2 steak tacos. I don't want to hear an explanation of avocado costs and whatever else. If your steak cost is cheaper than the non meat version of the same item that's a shady business ripping off people. This also makes me question their quality of meat. 2 vegetarian tacos was more expensive than my chicken burrito. I was looking for a local taco place around the Cicero area and I found this place through Yelp, so I decided to give it a try. When we got there we were surprised that it was a small hole in the restaurant, meaning very small and not very visible. We still decided to try it and we're glad we did. The food was phenomenal!! I was disappointed that they had ran out of al pastor, so instead I had the carne asada and barbacoa taco. The tacos are decent size, and have enough meat unlike other places. They were delish! The food is amazing!! First time I tried their wings and fries and I loved the wings so much!!!!! Way better than wingstop and bdubs. The seasoning they add to the fries isn't that great but you can ask for no seasoning. The second time I had steak tacos, rice and chicken tenders with fries for my little one. Loved the tacos and the rice was delicious! The tenders and fries were also cooked to perfection. The place is really small with only 3 tables and 6 chairs so I also order to go. Never been here and I came inside with a friend and I must say I was stun!!!!!!!! This food well the burger I order is sooo good. So I be back to this place and try the rest of the food they got. The only thing was I'm those type of persons that don't like my clothes to smell like food so the place smells so awesome but it needs to breath cuz it's to Smokey inside here of the meat cooking and everything. You could conceivably eat in small dining room, but I wouldn't plan on it. This is a busy take-out place and peak dinner times are always crowded. You may wait beyond what you were quoted, so be patient or give them extra time. Staff is friendly but they are busy as hell! Glad to see a small business firing on all cylinders. I haven't yet been disappointed yet with burritos, tacos, enchiladas, all the classic dishes. And as other reviewers pointed out, the burgers are excellent. Try the Mexican Burger with fries, it's delicious and big enough to share. But those happen to be my favorite restaurants for when I want some tacos or a burrito. Past history tells me that they are hit or miss. But when you find a winner, celebrate. This place is a winner. I have had the steak tacos, the steak burrito, and their guacamole, salsa and chips. These are the best tacos and burritos in the area, no question. I like my tacos just with cilantro onion and steak. The steak is of good quality and it has the correct grilled flavor. They are delicious. The tortillas are so fresh, they taste fresh made. Their salsas are very tasty. Their guacamole is fresh and delicious. Their chips taste fresh, not stale. Not greasy, not dry, not over or under salted, just great. In short, the food is just amazing. I have only been here twice. It is all business in here. You place your order, you get your food. Nobody's going to give you a big smile and all that when you come in. Who cares? You are getting really great food at an affordable price, and it appears to be the best Mexican food unless you want to drive to Cermak Road and try to pick a winner amongst the dozens of Mexican restaurants there. read more

After searching around the suburbs for our favorite Mexican food, we finally found it! I guess it took venturing over to Cicero to find it, which doesn't surprise me in the least given the large Mexican American population there. First of all, you don't come here to dine in. There are just barely three tiny rickety tables in here. Brasas is clearly designed with takeout in mind. Secondly, portions are really big, prices are a bargain, and the food is very high quality. If you're looking for authentic, delicious Mexican food, then you've come to the right place! Brasas can do no wrong. I even ordered a Mexican burger from here with fries (which are similar to those of McDonald's) and everything was excellent. The burrito is gigantic, and everything you want a burrito to be (and more). We ordered the guac and it came with SO many chips. I'm not a fish eater, but my girlfriend absolutely RAVED about the fish taco, which was huge. This one taco literally was enough to feed her for a whole meal. ONE taco! For food to be really affordable AND big portions AND excellent quality is so incredibly rare. I would never usually say this, but I honestly wouldn't mind paying a little more for this food. It's just that good. Note: I have to be honest that I have avoided this area in the past because of the perception that it isn't the safest, but those concerns are unfounded. The restaurant is so small as in literally small and tables are only a few. It is clean and the vibe is nice and casual. I was surprised after seeing their menu because there were a variety of different options for breakfast, dinner like crepes, fresh toast, tacos, tortas, quesadilla, burrito and many more including the specials. I decided what to order but the staff was a little bit off. There was no greeting at all and I felt I was talking to someone cold and serious. I wanted to dine but after seeing the staff like that I just chose to have my food for takeout. I waited for a little while until I got my order. It is pretty cheap and I am hoping that it was good. I was already home when I eat it and it is still kind of hot which is good and it also has a great portion. I got their Mexican cheeseburger with handful fries. In all seriousness, their burger was delicious and I did not expect it to be taste better like that because it is a bit cheap but it was so good. The fries are also good and well-seasoned. Hole in the wall restaurant - maybe three small tables - really more of a place to sit while your take out order is replaced. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I reserve 5 stars for fine dining experiences and that is certainly not Brasas - but Brasas is quick Mexican food of excellent quality. On the fast food spectrum, it is a 5. My wife recently got the fish tacos and thought they were excellent. I have had several of the tortas - they are huge - take home a second lunch out of these babies. Food is very fresh; generous hunk of avocado on the tortas adds great flavor.
