I have been having a love hate relationship with Brasas Peru lately. The quality is inconsistent ahhh and I hate to have to say that because when it's good....it's sooo goodddd. So much so that I tend to play Russian roulette with ordering here. Why was my $19 dollar salad lacking salad and had the worst part of the iceberg lettuce? If you ran out, tell me so I can order something different... Their staff are truly kind and friendly. One time my chicken was undercooked...they personally delivered a new order. sigh they need to bulk up this salad it's close to $20!!!! I've paid less for more and still had a great quality salad. Iceberg is cheap too, it's not as if there are mixed greens. I guess I'm paying for the salmon. And don't get me started on this poor sad spotted avocado! Man oh man! I had a fantastic experience here over the weekend when I ordered the "family" Combo Limeño #2 (Yes, it's meant to feed a family, but you know I made like 4 meals out of it for myself!). I placed my order through their website's online ordering (prices cheaper than Grubhub or any delivery service btw) and came in to pick up. I parked in front (they have a shared parking lot on the corner) They have a small dining room that is immaculately Peruvian styled - clean and bright. I waited a few minutes as they finished putting together my order. The hostess behind the counter hands me my combo with the extra green sauce I wanted and requests me to have a beautiful day. Don't sleep on those sauces - white, yellow and green ones were included. I don't know the exact names because I was too busy pouring it over everything while stuffing my face to Google it. They all add so much complimentary flavor to their great food. Rotisserie chicken was juicy and flavorful. Avocado salad was nice and fresh. Maduros were a standout - caramelized perfection. The thick cut Salchipapa were slightly soggy from the travels, but crisped up nicely in my toaster oven. Yellow rice and beans had a nice flavor to it. read more

I am very particular about Peruvian food especially the ceviche. To be completely honest Brasa Peru surprised me. The leche de tigre was perfect and the fish was fresh. My friend and I ordered the leche de Tigre con calamari and the avocado salad. Both super fresh and absolutely delicious. For entrees we ordered the lomo saltado and the arroz chaufa. Let me start off by saying i took five minutes out of my life to create a yelp account to to save the rest of you from the experience my family had here ; so franklin square this is for you . Let me start off on a positive note by saying the red beans and yellow rice coupled with their house green sauce and an avocado salad is a weekly staple in our household and is hard to top . 5/5 excellent. However the service is disturbingly negative when dining in . We had a horrible experience years ago and wanted to revolt against the place but as I mentioned those two dishes are so good that I swallow my pride to go back there and patronize them for takeout so tonight we go back with 4 adults and two toddlers . we had 3 different servers that clearly weren't communicating , and were all separately coming around requesting our order . the place was empty ( takeout was busy we understand ) but the food took forever and they weren't able to cater to our young children who were nearly screaming in hunger. the appetizers were good as expected . The entrees - lomo saltato was totally inconsistent and different then that takeout version as it was not mixed and merely lopped onto the plate . the skirt steak that came with the green spaghetti was the size of a piece you would throw underneath the table for your family dog to sample . it wouldn't have satisfied my year old . in a failed attempt avoid the pain and suffering of this incomptent service I requested a gin martini - " dry " but was merely given a glass of rubbing alcohol over ice in a water cup with a piece of rotting passion fruit on the side . to make matters worse we tried to finish up and requested the check and they were trying to charge us for the 6 adult gratuity . as I mentioned 4 adults and two two year olds . in a phony attempt to make things right the owner offered us a shot that ultimately never came as we were waiting to pay and leave gratuity . never again to dine in there it was seriously that bad . read more

My friend got the paella and I got fried rice with beef chicken and shrimp. both were great and we took the leftovers home. I woke up the next morning and used part of my leftovers for breakfast We ordered drinks. The menu doesn't mention alcohol but our server let us know that they do sell alcoholic drinks. We ordered two types of margaritas. they were served with dry ice, which isn't something we wanted. I wish they asked us if it was ok to put the dry ice in the drinks. Also the alcohol drink prices aren't listed on the menu. We sat outside and it was comfortable, it is decorated really nicely, and it's definitely a popular place. servers were nice and helpful. read more

This place is ok. We arrived here on a Saturday afternoon for dinner. I happen to love Peruvian chicken and was looking forward to giving this place a try. The restaurant itself is pretty small with about 5-6 tables. Service: the girl was attentive and sweet. It kind of hard to even try to ignore the customer because the place is so tight. Food: I wasn't impressed, the chicken was bland and my dad swears some parts were undercooked, that's a scary no no I'm my book. Everything else was pretty good. My favorite were the beans, great flavor and texture. The salad dressing was delicious and the plantains were pretty good. Price: we got a combo deal which was about $35, fairly cheap with the amount of food you get. However, The portions of the sides here like the rice are a lot smaller than in most places. This place has potential and it wasn't terrible. The thing is people come here for chicken and that should be perfected! read more

Picked up 2 roasted chickens and some alfajores for lunch today. I phoned in my order and it was ready waiting for me 20 minutes later. The chicken was perfectly cooked, hot and moist. The seasoning was tasty but little too salty and did not taste like traditional Peruvian pollo a la brasa. I enjoyed it very much but my Peruvian mother-in-law is still craving that taste of home. 1 star review for their automatic 20% gratuity added to our bill that our waitress failed to mention to us, including her sub-par service and terrible drinks. My husband and I have passed this restaurant multiple times on the way to work, as we are both employees of Northwell Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital on Franklin ave. Since this establishment has an outdoor patio area in the front to dine in, we thought it would be nice to come check it out one night for dinner. So we decided to come yesterday right after work. My husband showed up first around 4 o'clock and I showed up around 4:45pm as per our work schedules. My husband ordered a sangria and an order of empanadas to start with. He also ordered me a sangria upon my arrival. The empanadas were tasty, I cannot say the same for the sangria. It tasted like watered down juice, with fruit cocktail thrown inside. Typically, sangria has fresh cut up fruit inside, not fruit from the can. It tasted extremely bland. I opted for a water right after that, and my husband ordered a beer. For the entrée part, my husband ordered their pescado frito (fried fish) with yucca and salsa criolla. I ordered the Anticuchos (calf heart) with a side of yellow rice. The food was good and it came out quickly. It really is unfortunate that the remainder of our visit ended the way it did, because we would have returned. Upon asking for the bill, our waitress placed the black book with the bill inside on the corner of the table, and immediately asked if we were paying with cash or card, as she was standing there with the card machine. I felt like she barely gave us a chance to review the bill. I grabbed the book as my husband was inserting his card to pay. For both of our meals, including the empanadas, 2 sangrias, and 2 beers, the total was almost $70, and the real kicker, they added a 20% gratuity fee, bringing the total to $90!!! I immediately questioned the waitress about this, asking why she failed to mention it, especially since my husband just left an 18% tip on his card as well. She offered to cancel his additional tip, but my husband was so frustrated that he said forget it. So lucky her, she made a fat tip that she certainly did NOT deserve. Was she hospitable upon us entering? No. I didn't even know her name. I have worked in the food business before, and a truly good server will introduce themselves, ask if the customer has been to the establishment before, and perhaps offer assistance with the menu. She did none of those things. As for the establishment, who do you think you are? Some fine-dining Michelin star restaurant? Did you think you were located in Manhattan? The only times I have seen automatic 20% gratuity's added are in the city, Miami Beach, and for parties of 6 or more. And in this situation, it was neither of those instances! It really, truly is a shame, that customers such as ourselves who want to support our local businesses, especially during a pandemic, in a small suburban neighborhood like Franklin Square, could be so taken advantage of. I will never return to this establishment. I still can't believe the amount of our bill. Nor will I ever recommend them to anyone I know, and I will certainly notify all of my friends, family, and colleagues at Northwell hospital that this place is a rip-off. read more

I just had to write this review because of the service. My brother and I came to this place to eat. We were looking forward to it on our ride there to only be turned away and told that the kitchen was closing at 9pm. We arrived at 8:10pm. We still had 50 minutes to order our food, eat and go. The waitress made it so awkward because were like "but wait your hours are until 9pm" and she said, "yes but our kitchen closes at 9pm." And they didn't want to seat us. WTH?? That didn't make sense. We walk away hungry and disappointed and then we see a couple walk in after us 2 minutes later and they were sat!!! Now I feel we were completely discriminated against!!! Management needs to take care of this. No respectable business turns away their customers an hour before the kitchen closes. Horrible service!!! read more

Las Brasas was one of our favorite places to dine...reminding us of traveling abroad. Spectacular dishes, great waitstaff...the room was electric! Que Lastima. Friday night ended it for us. Got there to find a new menu, new wait staff, and a blinding, giant neon sign "Las Brasas" INSIDE the room 6 feet from our table, replacing the live singer. Maybe they didn't know that the sign should go in the window? The giant video screen is unfortunate but a staple of Long Island dining. Diners fixated on the screen instead of talking to each other. We ordered a bottle of wine and ordered the shrimp and quinoa salad. 40 minutes later we got a bowl of 4 shrimp and a big serving of ice cold quinoa. Needed salt, shrimp was good, but cold quinoa? That means it was pre cooked. After that, we sat with the dirty plates on our table for another 20 minutes. There was an occasional person passing through the room not one person stopped to see how we were doing nor did they seem to care about the dishes on our table. More often than not, there was absolutely no one watching the room nor servicing the tables. As an added bonus, the kitchen staff, several times, opened the rear fire door to bring things in and out. It was 18 degrees out so the room was subjected to a very cold burst of air. Several times they allowed the door to slam shut, startling everyone in the room. The main course finally arrived...the steak with sweet plantains, rice topped with fried egg, and hot dog. For $38 they should not have used the smallest egg they could find, and missing from the plate was the hot dog. If there was someone in the room to call over we have asked about that. The steak was good, but not like it used to be. The dirty dishes were NOT taken away. We had to request this. We also had to ask for another plate as we had said that were intending to share this dish. The wait staff specifically confirmed that we were sharing. We were not asked if we wanted a desert. With a good tip, the cost for being ignored was outrageous and an absolute waste. We're foodies and Friday nights are a special night for us. We will not be spending any Friday night at Las Brasas again. i don't know if they were under new ownership or new management or lost their chef (we knew who their previous chef was) ...and I don't care. The clientele was different....older and less diverse. The service horrible, the food and presentation pedestrian. For what it cost, we could have gone to any fine dining restaurant anywhere on Long Island OR NYC. read more

We ordered the whole chicken combo and 2 empanadas as apps and the skirt steak meal. Everything was tasty and juicy! Their green spicy sauce is heavenly. People come in just to buy that! Every minute or so someone is picking up for delivery which is awesome as I hope that they are doing well throughout covid. We ate inside, there was one other table and we were all separated nicely.
