I met a friend for a late lunch at Brasas Peruanas. The restaurant name "Brasas Peruanas" is Spanish and means "Peruvian embers" or "Peruvian hot coals." A little irony in that...Peruvian restaurant with a Spanish name. Their authentic Peruvian cuisine has bold flavors and traditional charcoal cooking. Brasas Peruanas is a medium sized restaurant with seating on both sides of the bar and at the bar. It is warm, inviting and laid-back...ideal for family meals as well as friend meet ups. My friend and I both had their standout dish, pollo a la brasa, a Peruvian classic (chicken marinated with spices and slow roasted over charcoal until the skin is crisp and the meat stays juicy and flavorful.) The pollo came with a green salad and French fries. The plates were quite generous and tasty. Perla, our server, was friendly and bubbly. The Lomo was tasty, but a bit low on the portion of meat (especially if you're paying more for the sirloin, which is $7 more than the base version of the dish...I wonder what the meat is like for that...). Loves our visit here! My boyfriend and I found brasas peruanas on Yelp and decided to make the drive to round rock to have some yummy Peruvian food. We drove around 30-45 min to round rock and sat down in a little place with incredibly friendly people. We ordered a chicken and beef empanada, a lomo saltado, and their rice with seafood. Every single thing was soo delicious and bursting with flavor. The lomo saltado lasted 5 minutes on our plate before it was gone, my boyfriend LOVED it. The seafood rice was also so delicious. At the end, we ordered some peruvian cookies that were filled with condensed milk and were absolutely incredible. Would 100% make the drive to come back for some authentic latin food! read more

Found by accident while walking from the library to the RR Arts Festival. I imagine that Peruvian climate is elevated and ascetic. So too was our first experience of Peruvian food. As soon as you enter there is a seating area to your left, then a bar slightly to the right that is flanked by more seating. I opted to sit at the bar and enjoy my meal. There are a few parking spaces right outside the restaurant, but if the lot gets full there is an ample amount of street parking in the vicinity. #PeruvianEats: ~ Aji de Gallina - 4/5 Over the years I've learnt to gauge how good a Peruvian restaurant is based on their Aji de Gallina. Visited Brasas Peruanas for lunch on a Sunday, and can't wait to be back! The service was fast, attentive, and super friendly. We were seated right away. Our server checked on us several times. Our drinks came fast (my husband had a pisco sour and he loved it!). The ambiance was casual and lively, but not too loud. We got started with some yuca fries and the ceviche limone! That ceviche was absolutely delicious. So fresh, and so many textures with the corns. Beautifully seasoned. The yuca fries were pretty good too and that sauce is so addictive! Attentive, but sometimes hard to catch them when they're very busy. Make sure your utensils appear clean. They need to pay a little closer attention to the overall cleanliness of their utensils and probably upgrade the interior, for a more clean look. Occupancy is 53 persons, but they lack adequate onsite parking; however street parking is available. Biggest upset of our first visit was that they ran out of rotisserie chicken and we were told that we would've had to wait one hour for it. When you think of visiting a Peruvian restaurant, you are more than likely craving that very popular Peruvian flavored rotisserie chicken. Was disappointed that they ran out. This should never happen. But this place is well-deserving of a second chance. Since they ran out of rotisserie chicken, we settled for fried rice with chicken for the kids. The kids enjoyed it, but it was truly just okay. It tasted a little off. Probably won't have our kids eat that again. We also asked for fries first the kids, but they failed to remember and didn't bring it out. By the time they realized it, we were ready to go. Wife had their Ají de Gallina. It included white rice and half a boiled egg. It was very rich and also enough to feed two. Good flavor, . Took the rest to go. I ordered Bistec A lo Pobre, which consisted of steak, garlic-flavored white rice (so good), a fried egg, salad, fries and just two pieces of fried plantain. They should've included at least 4-5 pieces of fried plantain. Nonetheless, this entree was so delicious and highly recommended. We weren't thrilled with their drinks menu, so we all had their Jugo de Parcha (passion fruit juice. A staple, and family favorite. The food was great. Intimate ambiance serving traditional Peruvian offerings. My son loved the alfajores. The Lomo Saltado was very flavorful. Would've preferred a bit bigger portion with more meat, but the price was reasonable so not a very big deal. The only thing that made me give them 4 instead of 5 stars is that there were only 3 tables seated in the restaurant and it took about 20-25 minutes for us to even have our drink order taken. Not ideal when dining with a 4 year old but it is what it is. Outside of that, the service was very friendly when it arrived and they were attentive once the drink order was taken. They have a few items on the menu u that can actually fill you up and serve as a whole meal if not that hungry for $5 or less which is nice for families or those dining on a budget. Fries has great seasoning ingredients it. The red-ish sauce was my favorite due to the little kick of spicy. The bistee a lo Pobre was okay. The steak was a little over cooked for my tasting and salty. The garlic rice didn't have enough garlic to be considered garlic rice. We used to have to drive to Dallas for this level is Peruvian food. No more! Right in our little Round rock. Staff was amazing and friendly. My husband is Peruvian so he spoke to them. I had no clue. lol. I can only describe the dishes but they are named in the photos. Our appetizer was a potato salad stuffed with shredded chicken in the middle. A spicy sauce garnished the dish. If you look at the view from the top, the cute cuttings of the olives and peppers are an excellent touch. Now let's get down to those dishes. We share them. I cannot say 1 bad thing about them at all. Steak cooked to perfection! The picture of spices-oh my! The creamy sauce with the chicken was fabulous. They both had a slight kick. If you spend time in downtown Round Rock, specifically near Round Rock Donuts, you may find yourself walking past Brasas Peruanas. Great reviews online prompted a visit, and walking in on a weekday night, it was fairly empty, but still with a relaxing and cheerful atmosphere. We weren't very familiar with Peruvian cuisine, so we mostly went with the highly recommended dishes. We started with the Causa and the Yuca a la Huancaina. The Causa was overall pretty tasty and filling, with a strong reminder of potato salad. The Yuca fries were nice and crispy, although the yuca itself was a bit bland. For entrees, we ordered the Tallarines a la Huancaina and the Lomo Saltado. The Lomo Saltado was packed with flavor and carbs. The Tallarines a la Huancaina consisted of sauteed beef on top of fettucini-like noodles lightly coated in a thick sauce. Unfortunately this dish looked and tasted fairly bland. The beef was tough and chewy, and while I personally go light on salt on most things I eat, the sauce was severely lacking on the saltiness. We also took home two Alfajores cookies. The cookies had a nice texture and the dulche de leche was very sweet. Despite the positive reviews, I felt that a lot of the food that I ordered were bland and the beef overcooked. My husband and I visited this place on a Sunday afternoon after what looks to have been a Sunday Rush. We had planned to come for a while as we always smelled it while waiting in line at Round Rock Donuts! There was always a crowd there. We've also never had Peruvian food. This place clearly attracts many of Austin's Spanish and English Speaking communities. Our waiter spoke English, but needed clarification at times. He actually greeted my husband and I in Spanish! Luckily I speak Spanish and was able to translate things that may have been misunderstood. We really enjoyed our food here. What I enjoyed most was how hot everything came out. It was evident that things weren't just sitting around. This is what we ordered: Chicken Arepas (Pollo) - 5/5 Lomo Saltado - 4/5 Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos - 4/5 1/2 Chicken - TBD (we got it to go) The arepas were so delicious! I can't attest to the other proteins, but the chicken arepa was great and fresh! I really like the lomo saltado with the garlic rice. The only issue is that the meat was a little overcooked and tough. But the gravy was amazing! The seafood rice, it's not called that on the menu, was also really good! We would definitely visit again and try their ceviche and other items on the menu. If it smells good from the outside, they're doing some amazing cooking on the inside. It's been a few years since I've had some great Peruvian food so I definitely had to make it a point to come here based on the Yelp reviews, and finally had the chance to do so yesterday. My husband and I ordered their Family Combo Chicken that came with a whole chicken, rice, french fries, and salad and Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos. The chicken was good, but their Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos .....DELICIOUS! I highly recommend getting this ...every bite was flavorful with shrimp, scallops, mussels and squid, yum. Outstanding Peruvian restaurant. A real find. * * * This is NOT haute cuisine Peruvian or Yuppie Peruvian. It is not Peruvian for Americans. Sadly, you don't get the Peruvian for Peruvians that involves super-exotic ingredients - like one of their 24 different kinds of potatoes. They have to work with what is available in Round Rock, Texas. What they put out is a standard set of everyday routine Peruvian dishes. Your basic marinated broiled chicken. Your basic marinated broiled beef heart. Your basic rice with stuff in it. Your basic ceviche. * * * What makes this place super wonderful is the execution. These are simple dishes done insanely well. There is only one other place in town that you can get a broiled chicken as good as the chicken at Brasas Peruanas. (Surprise surprise, it is Inka Chicken on Wells Branch - also a Peruvian restaurant but with a fast food take.) Dishes get served with three sauces. It was a shame to put sauce on that magnificent superlative chicken ... But the sauces are so good it is hard not to. The chicken comes with plain ordinary French Fries. Dipping French Fries in the sauces is guilt free pleasure. And yeah ... putting the sauces on the chicken is like putting hot fudge sauce on ice cream. Its worth doing. * * * They do have one dessert I have never seen anywhere else. That dessert is up there with seeing Niagara Falls. It is up there with seeing your least favorite football team lose by seven touchdowns. This is their chocolate cake with maracuya (passionfruit) mousse on top. Most tropical Latin American countries do a maracuya mousse. If they have maracuya mousse, you totally want it - No matter what country you are in. Because commercial providers make insanely good maracuya mousse, You can even order the mousse in places that serve industrialized factory food, And your dessert will be just fine. The Peruvians take maracuya mousse and put it on chocolate cake. No one else does that. Everybody else SHOULD do that. Chocolate cake - which is not all that thrilling a dessert by itself - Becomes absolutely totally amazing beyond belief with a thick coat of passionfruit mousse on top of it. Maracuya mousse is the ultimate destiny for chocolate cake that wants to improve itself. It is the basilica on the top of Saint Cecilia's mountain that allows chocolate cake to finally enter the gates of heaven. I think you get the basic idea here. This place is right next to Round Rock Donuts that has these huge line but quite honestly the Round Rock Donuts Place smells disgusting. You walk into this Peruvian restaurant and the first thing that you notice is the smell of good food you know that you're going to feel good after you eat here. This is my first time so we will see but I ordered the soup and chicken Tamal. The music is wonderful salsa and Latin love songs. I have high hopes. I've been looking for authentic Peruvian food in Austin, forever, and while I have found a few other Peruvian places, this is definitely the closest thing around here. The lomo saltado is really tasty, and it is clear it is done correctly (flambe) which gives it a nice smoky saucy flavor. The only improvement would be if the meat used was slightly higher quality. We both ordered the Maracuyá Sour, which is like passion fruit juice with alcohol or rather Maracuyá Peruvian wine. When I came in the restaurant I was greeted immediately, we had an idea of what we wanted and we got our drink promptly. The food didn't take long either about 15 minutes.bWhen we dined it wasn't busy, about 6 tables full in a restaurant double that size, I'd say. However there was one waitress and when I needed something I had to call her name when she passed by. So average service but not in a negative way.
