I was blown away by the takeout I got from this place. I got Arroz con Pollo and my coworker got Quesadillas with shrimp. First of all, the guacomole was quite obviously made fresh and had chunks of fresh cilantro in it. The Arroz con Pollo was juicy chicken, moist rice with carrots, peas, onions, etc, and large fried plantains. Haven't been here in a while but I had a craving for steak so we decided to give it a whirl. First thing, damn, the prices went up. I guess it's now turned into a hip place to be. The steak was good, as it usually is. I got the version with the egg on top. As far as I'm concerned if you put an egg on something its automatically good. The wine was also very good, and as usual, the plantain chips and salsa were excellent. We finished with the lemongrass custard and I have to say it was yummy and refreshing. We went to Brasitas for a birthday dinner with a party of 8. It was my first time there, and apparently, the exterior has been upgraded according to our friends who have been there before. Valet parking attendant was on point, ready for us. However, our 8: 00 reservation was not honored until 8: 30. Good thing we hurried! Drinks were ordered - my mojito was great. Friend's margarita on the rocks was weak. Sangria was outstanding. The plantain chips are, as reported, AMAZING. The salsa fresca was delish. We ordered 2 appetizers - empanadas were excellent. The sauce had the right amount of kick. Husband's app was ordered without guacamole, but they put it on. Boo. Didn't kill him, but not what he ordered. Dinners were a little slow coming. We had three people order the churrasco gaucho (steak), all were served medium, but were ordered medium rare, medium, and medium well. In contrast, Hubby's skirt steak was a bit tough and overcooked. My chefs langostino quesadilla was great, with 6 perfectly cooked and seasoned shrimp. Friend's tilapia was also excellent. So, the red meat dishes were "eh", seafood was surprisingly good. Desserts weren't anything to rave over. Maybe we missed the best things on the dessert menu? We waited more than 45 minutes for our check to arrive after dessert was served. The restaurant was no longer busy, so not sure what the hold-up was. The bill was $ 405 including tax and tip for 8 people, including 11 drinks, 2 appetizers, 8 entrees, 3 desserts, and 2 cups of tea. So, very reasonable. Will we go back? Probably not, but mostly because Latin American cuisine isn't our thing, and the food certainly wasn't consistently fabulous. read more

Stopped there last night because of Yelp reviews and now im so happy i did. When you sit down you're served with a bowl of plantains and a terrific salsa. Me, i would rather have these plantains than the best tortilla chips in the world, delicious. Skipped appetizers because we ordered another order. My wife and i ordered the Sangria and a Margarita, which were both good sized. For entree we ordered the Carne Asada. It was served with chorizos and mushrooms and brussel sprouts. This is a delayed review. My man and I both chose Brasitas for our birthday dinners. With all the myriad choices in the Stamford area, this means a lot. I am not exaggerating when I say that everything was delicious! I started with a white Sangria which went down way too easily. I could have imbibed at least 2 more (but did not). The plantain chips & fresh salsa are a nice way to begin the experience while you look at the menus. We ordered empanadas to start and they were flaky and full of flavor. Quite frankly, if I had just seen Brasitas from the road, I would have kept driving. It looks a little cheesy, with silly decorations in a strip mall near the Merritt Parkway. But luckily, I was referred to the place by a family member who raved about it, and so I looked past appearances and tried it. And OMG - two words... PLANTAIN CHIPS. so. good. Besides that, the other food is also excellent. I've been here a few times and I've yet to be disappointed. Last time I was there I had fish that was absolutely to die for... really tender and flavorful. But hey the holidays are creeping up around the corner and I need to try to maintain my figure. So I order the Ensalada con Camarones, or in laymen terms grilled shrimp salad. Stopped here on our way to the Newport Folk Festival. After driving several hours, this was a welcome stop. I agree with a previous poster when they said the plaintain chips and salsa were addictive. The first, Entrana Cubana ($26) a very small 4oz skirt steak with mushrooms and three stalks of asparagus, the second Pargo Rojo Frito Whole Red Snapper (Fried) ($27), and Pollo al Curry ($24.00) the Pollo (Chicken) must of been another diet portion of 4oz, overdone, with bones, in a sloppy soupy sauce, and four sweet plantains as garnish. In any case, this place, atmosphere- wise is a lot nicer than the Norwalk location. The food is always delicious - anything from appetizers to their entrees. Remember the phrase "never judge a book by it's cover?" This totally applies to Brasitas. I could drink the super-fresh, super-tasty salsa, it was THAT good. We tried to get a seat inside but without reservations, we had to sit outside. This was at 6pm. Who would've thought? So the staff was pretty attentive and brought out these delicious banana chips to dip with the salsa. We also got the Guayaba (guava juice) that was freshly squeezed. It's not Aloha Maid, but it was decent. EC ordered the Ceviche Brasitas - shrimps and calamari ceviche marinated in citrus juices, fresh cilantro tomatoes, red onions & jalapeno pepper and I got the special of the day Calamari Salad - haas avocados, orange slices, plum tomatoes, arugula. I highly recommend the salad, it was totally better. Entree-wise we both shared the special - Baby Back Ribs with Guava Cole Slaw and Yucca Cake. The lip-smacking meat fell off the bone. We never had yucca cake before, but it is a must try. Crispy on the outside, fluffy & potato-like on the inside. Yum! Next to us, the family had a curry & shrimp rice dish that smelled sooooo gooooood....EC was staring and started to drool. I am going here for all my Latin food cravings, hands down. read more

Although the location on a busy section of Route 1 is less than ideal, Brasitas continues its` popularity. If I lived closer, my visits would be more often, so I can`t argue with it. They serve very good Latin food. Plantain chips, skirt steak, arroz chicken, ceviche have all been fantastic. The menu also includes empanadas among other choices. Prices lean towards expensive, and with a couple drinks, you can easily spend more than you might expect. So, do bring a decent amount of cash, but more importantly an open mind. Great food, great drinks, and nice decor. A pretty fancy place. Their sangria is fantastic - we usually get a "half pitcher" which pours about four glasses full. And the plantain chips with homemade salsa that start every meal can't be beat! (note: you can get an order of plantain chips and fresh salsa for takeout!) Brasitas ain't cheap - with sangria, dessert and tip, a dinner for two will come out at $95 or more; not a great value. But when you want to celebrate a special occasion with a really good meal, this is our favorite place in Stamford to do it. You can choose between valet parking and just driving around the block to park on the street. It's not exactly a fancy neighborhood, but we have never had a problem parking on the street. read more

Mexican this is not. Amazing it is. Largely meat with a couple of fish dishes, but the fish dishes, as well as everything, are fantastic. I've been twice for lunch and every person loved everything they ordered. I've sampled 4 appetizers and every one was excellent. Shrimp with garlic and then teh Steak salad w/ arugula are the 2 mains I had. I don't think you can go wrong with any dish ordered. The salsa is clearly homemade, super fresh and delish. I have been coming to Brasitas for years and its one of my favorite Stamford joints. I have seen a few people complain about "the neighborhood", but having lived in Stamford over 25 years, I can tell you those comments come from pure snobbery and the neighborhood is fine. (also, the small parking lot in the back is valet) Definitely make a reservation - especially on the weekend. The dining area is small and always busy! I havent been to Brasitas in a while, since I moved to Black Rock two years ago, but it was my chosen restaurant last night to celebrate my 30 birthday! I was a little disappointed to see that arroz con pollo is no longer offered for dinner - as it was a dish I always dream of (if Im not making it myself)... but it gives me a good excuse to come back for lunch! We ordered arepas con pollo and empanadas to start. LOVE them both. Just as delicious as I remember. We filled up - gladly - on house made plantain chips and salsa between our apps and entrees. Also, the house made sangria is even more delicious and satisfying than the last time I was there! For dinner, I got chicken curry - which was SUBLIME! It came highly recommended from our waiter and even though Im not a fan of curry, i HAD to try it. Im really glad I did, too, because it is probably my new favorite dish! (though the tilapia that the girl at the table next to us had looked awesome too!) My boyfriend got paella which he enjoyed. For dessert, we split an order of flan, which was creamy and delicious and our waiter brought it out with a candle and sang happy birthday. The portions are still as plentiful as ever so come hungry or expect to take home leftovers (I took home leftovers which I am REALLY excited to eat!). Brasitas is a great local restaurant that executes great Spanish Fusion food. It is a little bit on the expensive side. The fried plantains to start are fantastic The Bistec al Caballo that I had was perfect. At $26 not bad for a piece of skirt steak. My wife had a Branzino and really liked that. My daughter had the mushroom flatbread and ate all of it. The Skirt Steak sticks satisfied my son. The Empanadas were tasty. The Camarones appetizer is a really nice dish. 3.5 stars I love the food at Brasitas, but c'mon... these prices are rather absurd for this joint. 0-3 in getting a parking spot (valet was too busy all three times i went) and most recently i got a ticket for putting my car in the blockbuster lot (lame, -1) the staff was not helpful in suggesting meals, unless you mean suggesting the most expensive stuff on the menu helpful. i eventually ordered something that was a combo plate which was not on the menu and it was delicious. food, +2 always crowded and the vibe is good, but i've had better overall dining experiences. unfortunately, there are not many options for good spanish/latin food around thus making brasitas a top pick for the area... ugh. read more

What a horrible place to go. I had to wait 20 minutes even I made reservation at this location. The waiter was so slow that after placing my food order........it took 45 minutes for the food to come. And when the food came I got completely different dish. In the menu it said wellington and what I got was tiny chicken.....and they charged $26 for tiny chicken...... Brasistas is a hidden gem. The plantain chips are delicious! We frequently enjoy pitchers of the homemade Sangria and Arepas con Pollo to start. I had to knock it down a star because last time we were in there the Seafood Paella has been removed from the menu. I was extremely disappointed because the paella at Brasitas was my gold standard for paellas. They replaced the paella with a jambalaya, which was tasty, just not quite the delectable as the seafood paella...bring it back soon, please and thank you!!! read more

Went here for dinner with my mother and aunt. The food was delicious. We ordered the churrasco, tostones, morro rice, camarones al ajillo and yellow rice. This was just a bad waiter! We were seated, given menus and waited about 8 mins for someone to ask us about drinks. They brought us drinks and I needed to ask him to take our order. We received our food shortly after and waited quite some time for someone to check in on us. We asked for some food to be packed up, it was brought to us and we then waited some more to be asked if we wanted desert. We ordered desert, finished our plates, they took our plates and he then took about 10 to 15 mins to come back to us to see if we wanted anything else or the check. He finally came to us after (we had ask someone else) and we asked for the check, we then sat there as he passed by us to service another table to take the check and money. And this is now the moment that made me write a review..... We paid half on cards and the balance in cash. There was change and he took it upon himself to take the cash without asking. It was only 5 dollars and obviously wasn't his tip based on how much we spent. I just thought it was so rude to take it upon himself to keep the change. Finally...the food was average. Shrimp(non cerviche) tasted two days old and like it was in a bowl of tilapia or some other dated fish before being grilled. I never noticed it even existed till a freind recommended it, though I drove passed it several times from my way back home from work, but walking into the restaurant was a pleasant surprise. To Start of, The service is very good. The waitresses were very keen to make sure you knew what you were ordering and even cared to explain what each of the items were, as most of it was foreign to me. We ordered 4 Appetizers (Crab cakes were excellent as well as the Lamb Skewers). The serve you with Plaintains which were delicious. I ordered the ina colda which I enjoyed as well. I am writing a review for my bf. The place is kinda awkward looking from the outside, but has great atmosphere inside. We came here a few times and the first time we arrived, we walked in on a very busy weekday night (it was only like 6pm). We sat at the bar, and waited for quite a long time, but the crowd and the smells were what kept us sitting in place. We finally got a table for two (a very cute and cozy table, thank you very much). As a Spanish-inspired restaurant, they naturally gave us salsa and toasted plantains...delish when you're on the verge of eating utensils! I'm not a salsa fan, but that was great. They menu is also interesting with a few great choices. My bf had a paella and was licking his fingers. The last time I went, I had arroz con pollo - but it was...ok... Whatever your choice in entrees would be, try their red-wine sangria (not too shabby). Their crepes for desert is also a must. All in all, a cute date place with a nice after-work crowd. Anyway, I went during lunch with my main squeeze and we split a Cuban sandwich and some ceviche. The ceviche was excellent--fresh seafood, cilantro, and lots of spicy goodness. The Cuban was fantastic!--lots of pickles, lots of ham, lots of swiss and it came with a side of some strange "french fry" type side [kind of reminded me of french toast--not a big fan but I'm sure some people like this]. We finished our lunch of with two cocktails and I wish we came back for dinner. The place is small-ish, maybe 30-40 seats...there's also a mini bar but I think the draw here is their food.
