Sooo I've always called in my order for pickup because their wraps are AMAZING, typically when I go in the staff is friendly but yesterday 9/11 I picked up my food and (first off VERY SPIRITUAL) and I immediately felt racist vibes and also got unfriendly looks. Wow! I used to think this place was half-way decent. Okay pub food, albeit pricey for what you get. A lot of the people behind the bar are pleasant. But those in charge are either mad drunk all the time or hate the human race. I had to deal with one of them recently and, now, forget it. Tiernan's doesn't deserve my business. None of it. Really, really average American-Irish dive bar. The place is kind of dirty, is very open, and lacks any real charm. The Guinness isn't the best pour in town. The clientele isn't the friendliest. That said, they have a redeeming and attentive bar staff. The also have a Touch Tunes machine so you play whatever music you'd like. Not great, but it gets the job done. For a real, cozy Irish bar experience, head down the street to Tigin. read more

I live in the neighborhood and have ordered take-out at least half a dozen times in the last six months. The food has always been good. Picking it up takes some patience because the bar is always crowded and there's no easy way to catch the bartender's eye, so you just wait for an opening. Tonight's order was similar to what I've ordered in the past, placed over the phone. It was very noisy on their end, but my order was repeated back to me correctly and I was told 25-30 minutes. So far so good. I picked it up and brought it home (a 5-minute walk). Dinner for 3 hungry people. The special request for the salad (no avocado) was fine. But the Tiernan's burger (8 oz burger on toasted Italian garlic bread with caramelized onions, tomato, mozzarella cheese and Worcestershire aioli) had been ordered as just a burger with cheddar on a roll, no other toppings. The only thing they got right was the roll. There was no way to scrape off the cheese and onions, and for some unexplained reason, there was melted cheddar on a good portion of the fries. So two of us ate our dinners while they were still hot and then my (adult) son and I walked back to Tiernan's to get a refund. We took the offending burger with us. After explaining to a bartender what had happened and handing over the receipt and credit card, we waited. She came back several minutes later to say her manager was handling it. We could see him at the back of the bar, working on something, on the phone at times. We waited some more. The wait was getting long, so my son took a few steps toward him and he (the manager) told my son he was working on it and to get the F#*@ back. Stunned, we waited longer. After at least 15 minutes, my son tried to tell him basically "never mind" because we needed to get going. He tossed the F bomb TWICE this time, saying "I f'ing told you to get the f#&@ back." At this point we were seething and would have walked out, but HE HAD MY CREDIT CARD. Finally, he brought us my card and 2 receipts -- yes, he had voided the original sale and issued a new receipt for the amount minus the burger -- but GOOD HEAVENS, the attitude of this man! The aggression! We were incredulous that he would treat customers this way. Needless to say, I won't be returning. Negative stars should be a option. read more

2 words... Irish Nachos. It was the Stamford St. Patty's day parade and I wandered in hearing some bag pipes. The place was packed but I managed to get a table where a band was setting up. The Tub Band. (Which I have to say were really good! I will look for them to be back there.) There was a special limited menu (I can get that) and I was hungry, so I got the Irish nachos which were nachos with french fries instead of chips. LIFE WAS CHANGED! OMG so good. I ordered an amaretto and diet which was a beautiful amount of amaretto. I want to go back and experience the full menu! read more

Went for the first time since 2013 today. So glad we did. Great sports pub and restaurant. We had the grilled buffalo chicken sandwich wrap, and wings. Both very tasty. Natalie was the bartender/server and professional and attentive. They have darts and a music box for entertainment, as well as bands two nights a week it appears from the board. During summer months they have outdoor seating and you can hear concerts from their patio. read more

Tiernan's is a fun bar on the weekends. There is typically a live band and dancing. Lots of tvs for sports events and a decent amount of bartenders so the lines are never too long to wait. Always a fun experience when visiting. Located in the prime area of downtown. There is also seating. I have ordered food here before as well and it was enjoyable. read more

This place was great. We visited here while we were out of town for business and staying at the hotel next door. I ordered their corned beef and cabbage platter and my boyfriend got the sampler. The food was amazing! The beer was cold and the place seemed really clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. The place had a nice atmosphere reminiscent of the local bars from my area. They had a band going on but we had to be up early so let beforehand although I would have loved to stay. If you end up here I strongly recommend the corned beef. I came here to go out for drinks with a few friends. I really enjoyed the live music and the atmosphere was nice and chill. The band did a bunch of cover songs which I knew and had a fun time singing along to. I have not tried the food as of yet so I can't comment on that. The drinks were good but a bit pricey. I think a beer I got was like 9 dollars. The restroom was clean and stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. The staff was friendly, and attentive from what I observed. BE WARNED: this location will nickle and dime you. My party was here early for Alive at five, got numerous expensive drinks and food (not a problem and totally expected) however they wouldn't give free tap water in the hot summer heat and forced their captive audience to pay $3 a bottle for water. We talked to 3 servers that night and all of them said that they are sorry of the policy but it was being passed down by management. So during my looooooooooong and boring (no offense) week in Stamford, CT while on business I could not find much to do other than drink myself stupid on a pretty much continual basis and this place came highly recommended. The bartenders were really cool, and I also found out that one of them was a firefighter too. Anyway, I had a really strong way-too-manly martini (okay I admit it - I love fruity drinks! So what?!) the bartender recommended it. I tried to man-up and drink it without making a terrible look on my face, and succeeded fairly well. After choking down both my pride as I accepted I was not a man, and the terribly strong martini I inadvertently ordered I stuck with my favorite : IPA. There were quite a few IPA's on tap, and many other cocktail options and for happy hour special all drinks were a dollar off! The atmosphere is inviting and is kept clean, it's basically a nice suped-up Irish hole in the wall pub. Were I in CT again or any extended period of time, I would definitely stop by again! read more

I didnt try the food here but my friends had a fun time hanging out. The music was good and they had a live band playing. No cover charge is always a plus. Drinks arent too pricey and the taps tasted clean. There's darts to pass the time and a jukebox for after the band finished. They kicked us out before closing because the crowd thinned out after the band was done but they were relatively nice about it. The bartenders were super attentive and fast with bringing the drinks. I gave extra tips for great service! The crowd was pretty cool. We met a few random friendly people that were fun to chat with. Not too many young college types it was mostly a mature crowd but that prob has much to do with who is playing on a particular night. They were engaging as well not just standing around but dancing and singing along to the music. Plenty of parking out front and theres a self service lot around the block if that makes you feel more secure. Overall great time. I'd definitely return. read more

I was really hoping to give this bar a good review, but unfortunately after more than 8 times of visiting over 21 days, my feedback is not going to make the owner have warm fuzzies. They do a lot of things right here. Food is good (though overpriced a bit based on other nicer places charging the same), drinks are well poured, and the beer selection, while not steller is decent. Good tvs, good sound (watching the Olympics USA/Canada game right now), good dart boards and plenty of seating. But unfortunately, the customer service really just sucks .... bad, really really bad. Out of probably 8 different peaople who served my coworkers and I at the bar and at tables, only one person really seemed to know how to do a job of making the customer first. Regularly, I have had to flag down someone to get a drink refill or ask for something for my meal. Many of the staff are more interested in either their phones or people that they know and talking to them rather than engaging all of the customers around them. You could often tell that there was favoritism on the part of bar staff based on whether they were trying to hook up someone or get a date. All very sad for what otherwise could be a great place. It also seemed that they were not staffed well for high traffic periods, no dedicated staff on the floor and bartenders regularly ignored people who had to get up from thier tables to ask for silverware or napkins. Would I recommend this place? Maybe if you can become a "regular" and know how to get the attention of staff, otherwise, there are plenty of better places in the area. Recommendations to the owner/manager - spend more time with your staff and have them focus on delivery of smiles and better conversation. Or, look for staff who have a more friendly demeanor. read more

Location is the real thing, going for Tiernan`s. And sometimes the live bands can be kinda fun. Its downsides are that the bar staff can be rude, particularly when it is busy. And when its busy, its the type of place with dummies spilling their drink on you. The food is average, but overpriced. Really, the key is if you are close by, it is a good place to have drink with a couple friends. Anything aside from that, I would steer away. read more

It's unfortunate that some people claim they had a bad experience coming to this bar because for as long as I've been coming here (2 years now) I've had nothing but friendly faces and quicker than other places service. I happened to be at Tiernans for the USA/Canada hockey game as well and personally I was impressed by what I saw..... Just TWO female bartenders taking care of the entire, every seat filled restaurant. That is the busiest I have ever seen Tiernans for lunch. Now yes I believe they could have had more hands on deck but the turnout for the hockey game may have been more than the restaurant usually expects and the staff handled it with ease. Pleasing every bar and table guest. From what I saw they were non stop and my coworker was impressed with the service despite the busy atmosphere and the fact that they were short staffed. I would recommend this bar to anyone who appreciates made-to-order fresh realistically priced food. It's a true "mom and pop" kind of place and for not being too well known of a regular there I am always treated with full and attentive service. It's kept me coming back for two years so I will certainly be coming back for many more years to come. I went here for lunch with a group of coworkers. There are places in Stamford with a lot more character for the same price, so I won't be going back. I had a crab cake sandwich. Of all the cc sandwiches I've had, this was the worst. It consisted of two deep-friend patties that had a thick crust, which was somewhat sweet, and they were dripping with grease. They broke apart and I couldn't really see anything inside that looked remotely like crab. I felt sick for a while after, like a brick was sitting in my stomach. Gross. Everything else I saw was boring diner-esque food. Unfortunately, I can't even compliment the waitstaff. It took longer to get our check than it took us to eat and there was an excessively long wait for our food. read more

I haven't actually eaten here so this is a review for the night life/bar scene. With a city like Stamford, with tons of college educated millennial living around the downtown area, there are many options for a late night scene. And while I have frequented many places, I always find myself back at Tiernan's most nights out. Tiernan's doesn't pretend to be what it's not. It is not an Irish bar in NYC, thats packed beyond capacity, and super loud. It has an amazing lay out, with a center u-shaped bar, a live music/dancing on one side and seats, dart boards, and conversation area on there other. They have an incredible rotation of bands whom are perfect for the Saturday night. The bartenders are quick, pour great drinks and super friendly. They never give attitude, which is rare in Stamford. The glasses is almost always spotless. During crazy night outs such as Live-at-Five, Halloween, SantaCon, etc, Tiernan's gets quite busy, but it's still the perfect place to hang with friends. Also shout of to the nicest bouncers in Stamford! If you are looking for a causal night out with your friends and what to avoid the craziness of Bedford (and avoid the waters down drinks), Tiernan's is the place for you. read more

My girlfriend and I actually went to Tiernan's for brunch and the food was actually pretty good. While it was the first time we had ever eaten brunch at a bar before, we were pleasantly surprised by the food quality. The eggs benedict I ordered was scrumptious, flavorful, and reasonably priced (definitely cheaper than the average eggs benedict in Manhattan). As for the overall menu, three out of the four major staples of an American breakfast were offered: egg varieties, pancakes, and french toast. The fact that Tiernan's doesn't offer belgian waffles is a minor quibble. As for the overall ambiance, the place is nicely decorated (even for a bar) and we had a nice and pleasant brunch because there were hardly any other patrons there. If I happen to be in Stamford again sometime, I would consider going there again for brunch. read more

Tiernan's has recently become my go to bar in stamford. I like it, the bartenders are nice, the drinks are plentiful, and the tab is never too high. I have one major complaint which is why it is not 5 stars. They have live bands....I love their live bands, they play fantastic covers! but they are so loud that I have to leave the bar after about a half hour. I have this issue with Brick house (also in Stamford) I no longer go there because the music was too loud one too many times. Summary, I like drinking here and will continue to drink here. Mediocre bar food and overall dirty place, but the main driver of the poor review is the soapy taste of the draft beer. Tastes like the glasses aren't being washed properly or the keg tubes aren't being cleaned regularly. I've also received skunked beer that they were pushing as a "sale". The sign should have read "Stale"! If you're only drinking Bud Light bottles, this place may be suitable for your needs. read more

This place is fine if one of the bartenders wasn't such a pain. I will say most of the Bartenders here were very nice, but one of them was really rude. I was playing darts and the bartender turned off the game without asking and without knowing that we were about done.
