The Brass Mill Center is a haven in what is an otherwise economically-struggling city. For what should be a ghost town of activity, the Brass Mill Center is a refreshing change of pace. There is a good selection of stores, the facilities are clean, and there are few empty storefronts. I came here on a random weekend in May and found the halls filled with groups of teenagers and families alike. The decor is pretty 90s and some of the signage is pretty tacky. But despite the dated decorations, they keep the mall in good shape. read more

The worst mall in the state, hands down. I've both shopped and worked here over the years, so I've seen this mall in action. Being a store manager at Brass Mill in 2012, traffic was down and I quickly noticed that stores go out of business here left and right. When you come here, you'll notice that about 1/3 of the store fronts are vacant and 1/3 of the stores are no-namers. That leaves you with about 1/3 of the mall to actually shop for name brands. In those stores, the selection is generally very skimpy because of the traffic of this mall. Customer service is almost always lacking too. As for the atmosphere and customers, it's Waterbury, so I don't need to explain further. There is a movie theatre here, but come to Brass Mill on a Friday night or Saturday and be ready for a swarm of rowdy teenagers. If you have the ability to go to nearby Danbury or Westfarms, you'll be much better off. Meriden is only slightly better than Waterbury. If you do have to stop here, be prepared for a less than desirable shopping experience. read more

It's not what it used to be but I not think it ever lived up to the expectations. Having said that it will do when you just don't have the time or energy to travel to West Farms, Danbury or even the more local but almost as run down Meriden. Macy's as an anchor store helps to redeem what has become the blight of the inner mall. Some of the store and restaurants listed in the malls website are actually across the road in another plaza. Personally, if I need to go to a mall I'd rather go to one of the ones I've already mentioned. However this one makes me want to shop online. It truly is so sad for Waterbury. read more

Several of the larger stores are a mere shadow of what they used to be, and most of the smaller stores cater to a more urban clientele. Gone are many of the stores at which I used to shop, and very few that are left offer products I'm interested in. Having passed this mall every time I head towards Hartford (from out of state), I always tend to see this mall from I-84. I always tend to fail and resort to not going into this mall for some reason. However, today, when my brother looked at his GPS device and found this mall, my mind just didn't click that these two were the same. The directions were messed up but doable. But the fact of the matter is, when I got into this mall, I wasn't too thoroughly impressed with it. It's got two levels of stores, but those stores that are present, I kept chugging past. I was un-alerted to the fact that there's a parking garage here (until I checked the one and only map inside the mall later into my "walk". I had parked down near Sears, so after leaving Sears and heading into the mall, the first thing I came to was the food-court. I had never seen such a tiny food-court this close to an end cap store-big chain department store. It had about 4 food places here (besides the IHOP later in the mall). Now, after passing this, I walked down the corridor towards the Macy's entrance, so I did come around to seeing their glass elevator. It's rather large, but surrounded by what smelled a bit like cigarette smoke. I know there's a Gloria Jean's coffee shop nearby, but this shouldn't have caused that smell. I did some shopping, though no items were bought at the Shopping World store - an imitation of Burlington Coat Factory paired with a HomeGoods store all in one location (along the same line as an Ollies, but selling some items piecemeal from Target Corp.) That was rather disappointing, but that's a story for someplace else. During my time into this mall, I perused through the FYE location (which is nothing like any of the FYE's I know near me). It had no DVD's and few CD's, it had tons of miscellaneous goods but those were overpriced and due to sales taxes, I didn't really want to buy anything here. Overall, although my brother and I were unimpressed with this mall, it's something to look into. I had seen tons of traffic in the mall with walkers galore, but I half expect most of those to be locals looking for a great shopping location and not much from travelers who are generally unimpressed with the selection of stores - much to the dismay of finding stores most would find elsewhere. Not a big fan of this place once again I haven't been here since 2017 so this might have changed...but when I went there in 2017 it wasn't that good and the food court wasn't good the only thing I liked there was a Olive Garden and an IHOP. The Olive Garden was good though!!! I love how they have good stores but it's not the best... I wish there was more stores. Okay well, first off haters...THIS MALL IS LOCATED IN THE 'DIRTY DIRTY'...THE BRASS CITY! WATERBURY! You know, DIRTY WATER? That said, it has a nice lower to mid-level shopping experience with a few cheap clothing stores and H&M and Burlington Coat Factory sprinkled in. I'll never forget when this place first opened years back...I was a little kid and after they built it from the giant hole in the ground, it seemed almost magical. Now, it's just a run-of-the-mill mall that isn't quite as big or good as Post Mall, better than that tiny piss-poor excuse called Meriden mall, and not as snotty as Wesffarms mall. Be wary of the local hoodlums swaggering around bored and especially of the old people power walking at 7am. Those people are crazy! Don't forget to lock your doors, hold on to your purse/wallet/phone and everything should be great. read more

All I have to say is that I was basically in tears the last time I went to the mall. At one point it was so thriving and beautiful it had great stores great restaurants. The building itself is so beautiful and it's pretty well-kept. The mall definitely is not what it used to be and it's heartbreaking. I do run in once in a while there's a few stores in there I do like. But all in a all there's not much in there...I still like JCPenney but I miss Sears and I miss Macy's.. read more

I agree with Amy's review on this mall, I'm just the next town over, but I'd rather drive the extra miles to Meriden, Danbury, Westfarms, etc. I will only go to Brass Mill if I need to pick something up and I don't have a lot of time. I avoid going there during the weekends, because that's when all the kids are there, loitering around everywhere. One time I was there, my husband and I were trying to trade-in a video game at GameStop. We never got to it because the fire alarm went off two times in one night, and security evacuated the mall the first time, then let everyone back in, and THEN evacuated everyone again fifteen minutes later when the second alarm went off. We just left without doing our trade-in. The selection of stores there are a joke, but they have the biggest FYE that I like to go to sometimes. Half of the stores there are empty with the for lease signs on the windows. The movie theater is ok, but there is always one or a small group of trouble makers who'd sit in a movie they already saw and ruin it for everyone. Again, I'd rather drive to Plainville for the movies than go here. read more

"The Waterbury Mall" as its known in Connecticut is one of the worst malls I've ever been to. When I was a young teenager, this was the Friday/Saturday night hangout for a lot of people - however, probably not the safest place for that. Really, one time when walking through it with friends, a "gang war" broke out on the lower level and a bunch of security guards / police officers had to arrest a bunch of people. It wasn't pretty. As far as the mall itself goes, I remember when it first opened we all had so much hope for it. Unfortunately, it really lost its swagger within a few years... just completely went downhill. The only decent thing about it is the movie theater but its not like you can't find a better one to go to. The last time I visited, a bunch of stores were going out of business and the mall itself was threatening bankruptcy. Apparently, a bunch of offices have moved it and its turning more into a business center than a mall. Maybe that will keep the crime down? Either way, better off traveling an extra thirty minutes and going to a different mall. read more

This mall used to be a 4 star rating. This mall used to be filled with greate stores like Sears, FYE Games, Halmark. They used to have good restaurants as well. Now the mall looks deserted and has too many dollar stores and expensive clothing stores. read more

I'm a regular here... That because there aren't any other malls around. I wish I could rate it better but 2 stars are pretty good for this location. Not a whole lot of good stores in here. I would avoid this place like the plague. About eight years ago, it was a fairly safe place, but all that has changed. A friend of mine had her car stolen (and never found) from the parking lot. I myself was thrown out of the mall for "throwing pennies at an old woman" when I had been looking at Piercing Pagoda's earring selection. When I pointed this out, the security guard insisted that he had it on camera, and called for backup. Background knowledge here - I am a tiny girl. I am not a big, lumbering, threatening person... so I don't see how "backup" was necessary. I asked to see the video footage and was told "Well, the cameras weren't recording." So they basically confused me for someone else, lied to me, and threw me out of the mall. But that's not all. There are unsupervised children running around the place constantly. That, and roving groups of teenagers who like to harass random shoppers. I wish the security would get their heads out of their asses and kick out the people who are actually causing problems. I can't really comment on the shopping itself, since you know, I was removed from the premises... but it looks like some of the stores have shut down. The saving grace of this area is the Commons, a little further down the road. The Commons are comprised of an empty building which used to be a Shaws, a Barnes & Noble bookstore (at which I spent a LOT of my time), OfficeMax/CopyMax, Toys R Us, Michaels Arts and Crafts, and Hometown Buffet... as well as TGIF, Chili's and McDonald's. This little plaza is one of my favorite places to spend my time, and the quality of people differs drastically from those you'd find at the mall - face it, how many teenagers like reading nowadays? - so you'll likely be able to shop in peace. In short, I recommend you skip the mall, but the Commons are a great place to spend lazy Sundays. read more

This mall gets slammed because it is in Waterbury. Is it Mall of America: No? Is it safe: Yes? Is it an average Mall: Yes? Waterbury as a town is hurting but the Mall is alright. I have only lived here in CT in Waterbury for a little over a year. The mall is average, but for the area I give it 4 stars. It is a active place, in a city which has seen better times. I lived in Minneapolis, and shopped at Mall of America, and have been to many high end Malls. Lived in Boston as well. I visited Malls all over, Chicago, San Fran, etc. It is a useful Mall with the standard big name stores: Sears, Pennys, etc. It is not high end. The food court is as good/bad as every other Mall I have been to. The parking lot is actually safer then many higher end malls I have been to. There does not appear to be much violent crime in Waterbury, nor muggings etc. although it is poor. I find that interesting. Security is patrolling the parking lot and is easily seen. read more

What happened here? This location coined Waterbury as "The Brass City". Now we are known as the place you pass through I84 on your way to work in Danbury/Hartford. I am constantly hearing rumors that the food court is infested with rats, the cinema is poorly managed (see other review), and every time I go in there are new stores that I never heard of and the ones that were previously there are now gone. The parking lot has signs around it that say lock your belongings, that is really sending a great message to out of towners. When this mall was built, it was supposed to be a new landmark for the town like Holy land was back in the day. It is now the laughing stock of CT. I work with women scattered all over this state and they all knock this shopping center when it is brought up. What happened? What went wrong? As far as personal experiences, I had a bad one at Famous footwear, game-stop, and the cinemas. All three revolved around lack of customer service. It is like curiosity and honesty just went right out the window. I hope they bulldoze this place and expand Hamilton park. Maybe add a few hot dog/ice cream stands and a nice pond. It will be a better attraction than shopping in a place with no stores and a bunch of warning signs. read more

I like this mall, it's closer than the Post Mall to my house and it's really not that bad. I find lots of great bargains here and always enjoy going out for Bertuccis which is in the mall...there is also a movie theatre on the third level which is convenient. I find that it is always clean usually not very crowded. It's not the greatest or most upscale, but I don't think there is a need to driver to a mall farther away really- it's got pretty much everything that is standard. read more

The mall has the new rule of banning teens. From my point of view it was a horrible business move. They should have the limit to 15+. I understand that there is immature teens and a some fighting, but the limit should be a little lower so you would still have customers. Brass mill mall made the mistake of making the age 18+ when really it should be 15+. In my honest opinion no 18 year old really has the time to be going there between college, school, and homework. Brass Mill Center is going to go out of business because of this new idea. If they would open there eyes and realize teens are 60% maybe more of your income. I do not recommend this place for you to hang out with your friends. The mall security will follow you or escort you out. Same for the movie theaters. You also can't come without a parent if you are under 18. Definitely not going there with my friends anymore. read more

You already know. This place is the buffalos brankus. Located in the heart of Bridgeport they are proud bluefish fans at this establishment. If you are a sugarland skeeters fan, I wouldn't set foot in this place. They reserve the right to refuse service to any Marvin Shank who walks in the door. It is an average mall in a not so popular city. It has some well known stores such as JC Penny, Sears, Burlington Coat Factory, Aeropostale, H & M, Macy's, just to name a few. They have a few restaurants as well as a food court. There are quite a variety of stores for the area. I come here because it's convenient and closer than some other malls. There are a few stores in particular I frequent for their bargains. A couple of others for their distinctiveness. One of the men's clothing stores called Euromodo is a unique and great store if you looking for well made men's clothing and accessories that you can't find in chain stores. I usually have gone during the daytime and always see security patrolling the parking areas. I haven't encountered any issues in the years I have come here. There is something for everyone here. They have continuously done improvements and renovations over time and keep it nice and clean. To some it's a gem and to others just another mall. It depends on your preferences. To me it is average because there aren't a lot of stores I go to. There is also a movie cinema located in there, too. I suggest you give this mall a try to see if there is something for you. read more

Brass Mill Center and Commons is composed of a - Mall - Mini Strip Mall down the road from the mall. The mall is pretty bad. Watebury is a tough place to have a mall because you have Danbury, Meriden, and West Harford close by and all have malls. The stores are pretty bad. with the recession, alot of stores have gone out. They have Sears, JC Penny and Macys as anchors. The fourth anchor they couldnt fill so they split it up and one floor is burlington coat factory and the other floor is empty. In all seriousness, just skip this place. Go to Danbury Mall or West Farms in West Harford. Those are the best ones around. The commons are bad as well.... Barnes and Noble, Toys R us, Hometown Buffett... this are all stores popular years ago, but not so much now. Again...just skip this place.. read more

Food was good server was ok I feel the server needs more training I myself work in a high end restaurant and usually when the customer is finished with his or her food you would normally ask if they would like coffee or desert I didn't get any of that today she noticed we were done and just said she would get our check kinda felt rushed. Such a sad end to this mall , I remember the old days of the old mall .Being a plumber working on some of the stores I always knew this would be the end result of the mall built in the middle of the 2 worst sections of Waterbury.The south end to the right and to the left the north end .All within walking distance,this is why this mall never thrived and never will .If u don't believe me enter at your own risk (not at night) my wife is not to ever enter that mall ever as I fear for her safety .All the chain stores are leaving or have left .The stores are catered to the inner city and the food no franchise food just 4 to 5 Chinese restaurants serving the same crap .VERY SAD ,but I saw this 20 years ago when the thought of this mall was brought up will be abandoned just like the old century brass read more

Barber shop upstairs across from the cafeteria is filled with unprofessional workers! Few weeks ago I was charged 20$ for a shape up when on the signs it clearly said the price. I didn't say anything because I was personally going to give the barber a tip after getting the shape up. The dishonesty in the price made me change my mind. Waterbury is the town everyone loves to hate on because it is working class and unsophisticated. I grew up in Waterbury then later moved away for college and ended up living elsewhere for economic and other reasons. Am visiting family and have gone to the mall a couple of times now --it was clean and very pleasant. I just saw Star Wars in the theatre and had a great time. I didn't see any 'thugs' and your car can get broken into in any parking lot. The Sears, Macy's and JC Penny were well stocked and looked as nice as any other. I can't speak to the coming and going of stores but during my visit I didn't notice any storefronts that were closed, so the post that said 1/3 are closed was absolutely wrong. Gamestop, FootLocker, American Eagle, Hallmark, etc. These are the usual stores you will find in mid-range malls. People will read the other reviews and, in my opinion, have a totally false view of this mall if they have never visited. It is in a great location right off the highway and separated from homes--this mall is not sitting in the middle of a ghetto. It's a typical american mall suited for people who make moderate incomes. Sorry, but not everyone can shop at Abercrombie and Fitch or Banana Republic. Those stores are incredibly overpriced. I just don't see this mall being much different from hundreds of other across the country, so I can't figure out why it is getting so many bad reviews. Brass Mill Center in Waterbury is a fine mall with many large anchor stores, good restaurants (including a Bertucci, IHOP and an Olive garden) a food court and a movie theater. I don't know what's up with the bad reviews but the wife and I enjoy the Brass Mill Center Mall and like visiting here much better than Westfarms Mall in Farmington because were not Millionaires. read more
