I came to Brass on a weekday to celebrate my birthday, and I honestly couldn't have been happier with the atmosphere, food, and service. The restaurant had a wonderfully lively yet intimate energy, with most tables filled by patrons celebrating and catching up. A live pianist filled the room with a soft, beautiful soundtrack that really tied the whole evening together. We shared several items from the menu. We went to Brass for an early dinner...5:15 p.m. early. The restaurant was practically empty, so I couldn't understand why we were seated at the smallest table in the room. I noticed another party of two sitting in one of the rounded corner booths. Later, another couple was seated in the other rounded booth, but they eventually asked to be moved to a regular table when a third person joined them. Meanwhile, we stayed at our tiny table despite having a reservation. It was a little annoying, but I wasn't in the mood to make an issue of it. I had been really looking forward to this meal, but unfortunately I was disappointed course after course. We started with the Moules Frites, which ended up being the best thing I ate all night, and ironically, it wasn't even my order. My husband ordered it. I was most excited for the crab & Maitake Croustade, but if you had served it to me without telling me what it was, I would have guessed it was tuna salad. The crab didn't taste particularly fresh, and I couldn't find any trace of the maitake mushrooms. I couldn't see them, and I certainly couldn't taste them. We also ordered the steak tartare. The quality of the beef was good, but it was overwhelmed by acidity. If I had closed my eyes, I wouldn't have known I was eating steak tartare. And that's saying something because I actually love acidic food and tend to prefer more lemon and vinegar than most people. Next came the entrée-sized gnocchi. It was just okay. The gnocchi had a decent texture, though they weren't the light, pillowy bites I was hoping for. Unfortunately, the dish was buried under so much pesto that I couldn't taste much else. The portion was also surprisingly small, too small to feel like an entrée, in my opinion. For our mains, we ordered the Steelhead trout and the Hudson Valley duck. The trout was cooked beautifully with perfectly crisp skin, but again, it didn't taste as fresh as I expected. That's something I'd be more willing to overlook at an average neighborhood restaurant, not at one with Brass's reputation and price point. The sauce with the roe was delicious, but I didn't understand the braised cabbage alongside it. It didn't seem to complement the fish. The duck was another disappointment. The skin was floppy instead of crisp, and part of the sauce had already dried onto the plate by the time it reached the table. The sauce itself, however, was excellent and ended up being the highlight of the dish. I also didn't understand the grilled romaine. It tasted fine, I like romaine, but it felt like an oddly inexpensive vegetable to pair with such an expensive entrée. By the time we finished our mains, there was no point in asking for the dessert menu. We were ready to leave and get dessert somewhere else. Overall, it was a disappointing meal. The one bright spot was our server, who was friendly, attentive, and exactly what you'd hope for at an upscale restaurant. The food was good, but there was no wow factor. This restaurant was on the openTable reserve list so I guess I was expecting more. Actually the oysters were really really good because the vinaigrette was very unique. The place is very classy, upscale and nice. The service though, I think it was barely OK. Well, the hostess is very sweet, but the wait staff was very mediocre. I almost felt like I was being judged. They recommended a few things, but I wanted steak and I wanted Hennessy on ice. I just wasn't a cocktail girly and I felt very judged and like they did not like that I did not want to order what they were pushing on me. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's in the Evelyn hotel. You walk through a bar area(tusk) which is special in and of itself. The food is really exceptional and we enjoyed the crab cakes as well as the Branzino and Steak Au Poivre . Stopped by Brass for dinner with no expectations and left pleasantly surprised. Located at the back of a hotel lobby, the venue is beautiful and offers warm lighting with live music. The food was good overall. We ordered the carpaccio, the gougeres, the gnudi, the amish chicken and sides of fries and brussels. The highlights were the gnudi and chicken -the gnudi was creamy and rich while the chicken was perfectly tender. There was a bit of a logistical hiccup -our chicken was accidentally dropped at the table next to us and by the time it made its way over, it was a bit colder than desired (but it's still one of the best chickens I've had). Also, the tables were a little tight but the place had great vibes and offered a good overall experience. Great for an intimate date night or a night out. Came here without much expectations, but it was a pleasant experience. Got here by subway/train but there seem to be some garages around if you are driving. Service was great, the moment you come in, there is a bar area you can sit at if you have to wait for others. The main dining room looks very elegant, with a center piano and someone playing the piano during your meal. Our food was great, loved every dish. Had the foie gras trio and it was delicious! Especially loved the biscuit that came with it. Steak tartare was a amazing mix of flavors. It was a bit weird that we had to pay for house rolls, but the bread was amazing nonetheless. Our main entree were duck and pork, my husband thought it was the best pork he has ever had. The duck was amazing as well especially with the skin. We booked Brass for a date night dinner and it was pretty easy to get a reservation through Resy. The restaurant was inside the Evelyn hotel at the very end. You have to walk through the Tusk Bar to get to but the interior and atmosphere was very nice. Since we booked an early dinner at 5pm, we were really the only ones there for at least an hour until people started trickling after 6pm. We had wanted to come here mainly for the live music performance, but unfortunately found out that they don't start the music until 7pm, so it seems like going around 6:30pm may have been the move. Since it was my anniversary with my boyfriend, the restaurant was very nice in offering us a welcome drink and we were able to choose either champagne or a peach sparkling drink. For food, we ordered mostly what our very friendly waiter recommended - which included the crab & maitake croustade, crabcake over bibb lettuce, cod, and side of glazed carrots. We enjoyed the crab & maitake although I didn't care for the tart/shell on the outside as it felt a bit on the stale side. The crabcake was decent but I also didn't care for it as much. The cod was really good though and basically fell apart super easily and was really tender and soft. The glazed carrot was unique as it almost looked like beets and had hazelnut and a bit of tartness to the flavor. The food was mediocre. We got the Crab & Maitake Croustade, Moules Frites, and Steak Tartare, as appetizers. They weren't bad. The Duck was very tough and chewy, but it had a strong duck flavor. The special Lobster pasta was uncooked which made the texture tough, not the way I wanted. Yet, the lobster sauce was excellent and it had lots of lobster meats as mentioned. The service, however, was unacceptable! The Hostess, Sommelier, and our Server, weren't friendly at all, provided this is an upscale venue. The Assistants/Bussers were the only ones smiles! As others noted, we saw two groups complaining the need to wait even with reservations. We got lucky out that ours was ready. The appetizers came out pretty quick BUT it took forever for the main dishes! We didn't complain or chase them, yet even the Server realized where he apologized multiple times. He even told us that he informed the Manager! We waited at least 50 minutes, if not more! After the dishes came, the Manager then walked over and asked if everything's okay, without any apology or offer anything, which it's a typical response as compensation. Again, we didn't bother to say a word. Yes, the ambiance is romantic, featuring warm lighting, classy decor, and live pianists and/or jazz that set a great mood for a date night. But, the second time the meal took a really long time as there was an issue in the kitchen and there was a large gap between courses. They made up for it by giving us complementary drinks, but it was still frustrating experience. We were excited to come here to use our CSR dining credit. We were seated in a tight alcove with two other two-people tables. It was very cramped, and one of the hostesses came by and told us to physically move our table over so she could seat two patrons. We didn't mind, but it was a strange demand to ask of customers. The food was okay. Some pieces of the crudo were extremely fishy. The moules frites took nearly an hour to come out, and it was literally 3 pieces of cold mussels on warm chickpea crackers. I don't think they know what moules frites are. The Hudson valley duck was good, and the branzino was the best out of everything we ordered. While we were waiting for the moules frites to come, we realized that no servers had come to check on the three tables at our alcove (6 people total) for nearly an hour. No one came to refill water or give the check to the couple that had finished their meal. After I flagged down a manager, our server finally came over and said we'd have to wait an undetermined amount of time for the moules frites (again, 3 cold pieces of mussels on warm chickpea crackers). The other couple next to us were also told they would have to continue to wait for their steak frites after nearly an hour had passed without anyone coming by. No explanations were given; no comps were offered. I'm just glad my CSR dining credit paid for the meal. Definitely not coming back. read more

Quite a few families with kids and just not what we expected for the venue or the evening. The food was ok - expensive small dishes that were not spectacular. Service was slow and it took awhile to get drinks and even order. The music was lovely but I don't think it was enough to get us in for a second visit. Tusk Bar did seem to be the place to be. Where do I begin? The best part of the evening was the pianist -- truly a standout. The atmosphere itself was sexy and inviting, but the service was abysmal. Requests were disregarded, and any attempt to ask a question was met with assumptions rather than answers. The tilefish was clearly frozen; the texture gave it away. The gnocchi were fine, though my partner was far from thrilled -- at this price point, "fine" doesn't cut it. For the cost of the meal, everything should have been flawless. The trout came close though... The wine list was equally disappointing. The featured Grenache was mediocre at best, certainly not worth $18 a glass. With a menu of this ambition, the pairings should have been curated with more care. Disappointed for what should've been a stellar date night was a poor showing:( read more

Brass was a beautiful, romantic, and classy experience! I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance: warm lighting, tasteful decor, and the pianist was a nice touch. I ordered the steak with frites and broccolini and a glass of orange wine. The presentation was gorgeous and I enjoyed the food, but that's where the review lost a star for me. I've had better steaks, but this one was just fine. I usually have my steak medium or medium well but the chef suggests medium rare so I obliged but perhaps shouldve went with my usual preparation. Besides that, the service was excellent: kind waiters & hosts! They even moved me to a nicer seat to better see the pianist and gave me a complimentary ice cream since it was my birthday. Second, the room brings you back to a bygone era of elegance but still relaxed and unpretentious. Third, as you would expect from the Tusk Bar's sibling, the cocktails are so well done (the wine list is great too). Fourth, the food is creative, but not creative simply to be different. I had a nice experience here. The setting is lovely and lush, the waitstaff was great especially our server (Alex), the piano player was great and a nice touch. The food we had was all tasty but there was one big issue - there was a LOT of time between ordering and receiving our food AND between each course. Like 30 minutes at least. And our main courses arrived cold the flavor was good. But cold steak and chicken is definitely subpar. We ordered shirimp cocktail that came with some kind of horse radish white sauce and it was so good we asked to keep it for the main course. The waiter looked at us like we we weird but whatever, so good, you can call us weird. The steak, cooked to juicy perfection. Not a large portion kind of place, but deff will hit the taste buds.
