I was on southside blvd and needed to pass some time. I wanted some coffee and Brass Tacks caught my eye. The parking right in front isn't the best but there is ample parking in the shops surrounding the business. The environment was lowkey with several patrons on laptops or catching up with friends. I had no idea what I wanted but definitely wanted to try their drinks and a biscuit. I ended up having them customize an iced caramel latte and ordering a cheddar and cheese biscuit. Everything tasted amazingggg. The biscuit was fresh and I didn't feel heavy after eating it. The latte had the perfect amount of sweetness. Both items complemented each other well and the pricing was very fair. They do sell their own coffee and it seemed like everyone had a cup. I think one of the better things about it is the drive-thru for people who don't want to get out the car. I am confident enough to use the drive-thru now that I have a go-to order. Let's talk breakfast sandwiches real quick because I don't really like breakfast, in fact I normally skip the meal all together but the bacon egg and cheese biscuit at Brass Tacks is so good I would live exclusively off of them for a week! They are first come first serve so after a certain time every morning they seem to run out so wake up early to get there but I promise if you do you won't regret it. I occasionally work at an office near by and have now convinced everyone that comes in they need to try the biscuits and they all agree they are delicious! After errands on a humid Jacksonville morning, we ducked into Brass Tacks Coffee on Southside Boulevard, hungry but not desperate. Two biscuit sandwiches, a couple of pastries, and something to drink seemed like the right call. The Rex and The Classic are essentially fraternal twins, each built on a scratch-made drop biscuit with egg and meat, turkey sausage in one case, bacon in the other. The difference is cheese, pimento on The Rex, cheddar on The Classic. The pimento has a little personality, the cheddar just does its job. Both were satisfying in flavor, but those biscuits... They crumble on contact, the sort of bread you hold with one hand while sweeping up shrapnel with the other. Fine for sitting in the café, but impossible for a commute. The crumb cake was inoffensive, the blueberry muffin less so, dry enough that the only bursts of flavor came from the berries themselves. The coffee was dark and straightforward, the iced chai latte sweet and cold, doing exactly what it promised. 3 out of 5 stars A place worth sitting down in, but maybe not worth taking to go. read more

From the several locations around Jacksonville, to the number of friends who have recommended Brass Tacks to us, when we finally gave the Southside location a try we were pleased with the results! There was a of seating and drink options, and the whole coffee vibe was both very relaxed, but also upbeat. There was a good mix of people coming in and out, some socially hanging around, while others were working. And everyone seemed to also be enjoying their coffee. This is my daughter's fave coffee place and, of course, was the first place she took me to when I visited. It was SO BUSY for first thing on a Sunday morning! The drive-thru line reached into and around and through the parking lot. Luckily it moved fast and we ordered and received our coffees quickly. The young lady at the window was friendly and polite. Brass Tacks was highly recommended and let me tell you it did NOT disappoint. Ordered the Sweet and Salty iced coffee and it was perfect! They are located perfectly near apartments and other local businesses which is why they were filled with customers when I arrived at 11am on a Friday! I ordered a seasonal drink, the eggnog chai and the funfetti scone which looked like a fun bakery item to try. The eggnog chai was amazing! The eggnog was perfect and the chai flavor was there as well! The funfetti scone was good, had all of the fun sprinkles and the flavor was sweet but not overly sweet! Quick visit here for a coffee grab to try their seasonal lattes. They had a few such as pumpkin spice, a chai espresso drink and more. I was really disappointed at how helpful the baristas were it's almost like they were rushing me to order and when I kept asking them to tell me about the drinks and how they make them, since I opt for lower sugar drinks, it seemed like I was annoying them. I opted for the chai espresso drink and the chai flavor just came from some syrups. I have heard great things about Brass Tacks and was excited to visit after a nearby stop. I could tell by looking at the menu that their specialty coffee drinks were going to be sweet. I got the honey vanilla latte, but half sweet, and it was still too sweet for me. I thought it was ok, but I really didn't love this coffee like I expected to! Service was very quick and friendly, and there were plenty of people working in the shop. It is very big and had lots of open seats! I also got a french toast muffin that was HUGE. I only ate 1/4 of it, but absolutely loved it. So good. Overall, I would give this coffee shop another try, but I was not a fan of my first coffee visit. Maybe next time I should get actual coffee rather than espresso. read more

Definitely one of the best cafes in Jacksonville. Very strategically located, it is in the midst of bunch of unassuming restaurants. Love this place, has the vibe what could be a huge chain yet also feels extremely local. My favorite coffee place of all time! I love that you can actually taste the different flavors between their drinks. I feel like some coffee places have special flavors that all end up tasting the same. The coffee is pretty sweet, but it's perfect for me. The coffee flavor is strong and not watered down by the milk. Staff is always friendly and quick. The ambiance is great, but many of their chairs are metal that make my butt cold. This is my third visit since returning to JAX a few months ago. Have to say Brass Tacks is a coffee outlet where consistency and persistence pays off! It looks the same inside, the menus look the same, the cups still tell us to "Stay Sharp!" And the service and coffee (I mostly do lattes) remain among the best in the coffee business! Looks like the floors haven't been mopped in days ice machine hasn't been wiped down looks like for weeks. The walls near the condiments are filthy. The standout thing about this place is the amazing service and people who work there! I went there on a Saturday morning and was so happy to see a drive thru. I got an iced latte with vanilla and oat milk and a bagel with egg and cheese. I did order an everything bagel, but got a plain bagel instead, but I didn't mind that too much. The coffee was great! The food was a little simple for my liking, but I know that some people prefer that. It is made with fresh ingredients so that's a plus! If I was rating this place on food and drink alone, it would probably be 3 stars.
