I've tried 50+ coffee shops in the JAX metro area and consistently tells others that this is one of my top 5 spots to go to. I frequented the trailer they used to have before they moved into the MOCA. I love the new setting in the museum because it's always calm and quiet when I go in and great place to sit and read books I've picked up from the library next door. I was visiting the museum with a friend one Saturday morning. I had planned for us to visit Setlan after our visit to the museum, since it was on my list for the Jacksonville Coffee and Donut Trail with Visit Jax. It is nice that it is conveniently located in the museum. They have a simple menu, but they also have seasonal items. We decided on the Florida Fall iced coffee, with cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. I also picked the everything kolache with cream cheese. The kolache came out immediately, and was warm. Our drinks came out afterwards, and we sat down to talk and enjoy. The kolache was warm, fluffy, and the right amount of cream cheese inside it. The Florida Fall drink was just like a Florida Fall, light with a hint of fall. Think cold coffee, then bam, watermelon cold foam and watermelon sugar on top. It's like a flavor explosion in your mouth. Who would've thought this random combination would actually be so good. You taste the espresso, but still get hints of the melony flavor. My friend tried the bramble which was a latte mixed with housemade blackberry and lemon syrup. Tucked to the right at the front entrance of MOCA -- they have their straightforward menu with seasonal offerings. Seasonal lattes are creative and not overly sweet. I recently tried the white rose which was a white rose mocha with rose syrup. My husband really enjoyed his Bramble latte which was flavored with blackberry and lemon. Loved this new location under the Jacksonville Library - I'd been to their San Marco food truck styled location before but got a chance to be one of the first customers in the new spot! The service was amazing (as always) everyone so personable + seemed excited to be there. It's such a great spot for remote workers (like myself) or to students as there's lots of seating and lounge spots. There's also a park right outside if you want to take a stroll and get some fresh air. I got an iced vanilla latte and cinnamon roll and they were both so good - something so simple as having a real glass for my coffee made me so happy. What a great small business to support. The prices included the tax so you could see the complete cost up front and were very affordable. In the mood to meet the best latte you've ever had? I ordered the vanilla as this is what I order when I end up in the Starbucks or Dunkin' drive thru. But.. This place just may have changed the game. Let me start off by saying the owner is amazing. His personality and vibe were so energetic and happy. Had my mood been sour before arriving, the vibe alone would've made my day better. He seemed to really have a passion for his business. Now, the latte may seem cliche but since I normally order this elsewhere, I figured I had to compare something I was very familiar with. heard about this little coffee spot from a fellow Elite, so I knew I had to give it a whirl. I was downtown for TV segment (no I'm not famous lol) and checked my Yelp app to see what coffee spots were close, so I could grab a coffee (an extra burst of caffeine before I went on air), and Setlan popped up. I popped the address into my GPS and literally two minutes later I landed at Setlan. I had no problem finding a parking spot (seems to be ample parking, but I came in between breakfast and lunch). I parked, walked passed an airplane (that's right, you read correctly), and walked over to Setlan (which was in a trailer). After looking at their menu, I opted for a peppermint mocha. I chatted with Tyler, the owner, who was super nice. Beware, due to limited space in their trailer, they have the following milk choices: whole, oat, and almond. I wound up getting whole (normally I get skim, but it was chilly, and I'm assuming due to the chillier temperatures I'll burn those calories...or at least that's what I tell myself). Tyler said they'll be getting a new space soon. Which is pretty exciting. You could tell the care he puts into each cup of coffee (which BTW, my latte was a work of art). I paid for my latte, and went to my car. The first sip was glorious. The latte had the right amount of coffee and milk. It was thick, creamy, robust, and delicious. This isn't your typical peppermint mocha. Stop by Setlan for a work of art and a good cup of joe. The original plan was to open a brick and mortar coffee shop but then the Coronavirus pandemic took over and altered Tyler's plans, so best option Tyler (owner) did was open a coffee stand across from his beloved brick and mortar dream. The menu is pretty simple. The coffee he uses is from Stay Golden Coffee Company, a coffee roaster based in Nashville, TN.. where he's originally from. I literally cannot rave enough about Setlan Coffee! I live about ~25 minutes away but often make the drive into San Marco to grab a latte from Setlan simply because of how good it is. The coffee itself tastes so good and there's always different creative seasonal drinks to try. However, the location seals the deal for me as I love sitting out at the tables and enjoying my coffee. The owner is also very knowledgeable and it is super clear he is passionate about his business as well as the Jax community. We visited this nice coffee place on Memorial Day and had a great experience. The man who took our order was very personable and gave suggestions on what others liked. I had a blackberry bramble latte and my girlfriend had the Lavender latte. Both of us were quite surprised at how good these lattes tasted. Those subtle flavors added were unusual but so delicious. He can have a line of 7-10 people all by himself and he will knock out these drinks like they're nothing... all with a smile on his face and fun sound effects (unbeknownst to him) when he is stirring espresso and milk or something. I believe Timothy is the owners name (correct me if I'm wrong!) but he was as amazing this time as he was last time. He makes quality coffee, has good conversation and is so welcoming. The beans are top-notch, and the staff is wildly friendly and more than competent enough to have a conversation with you about why their coffee is so good. When I got to the counter, I asked what espresso options they have, and when I found out there was a single origin Ethiopian been I was delighted. getting a single origin espresso for your flat, white or latte is a real treat. With the closing of Bold Bean San Marco, I've been looking for a local coffee only spot to fill the void. Luckily, I finally had the chance to visit Setlan Coffee. Located behind the La Napolera and Panera in San Marco, you wouldn't think to get a delicious caffeine fix from a trailer, but you can! I ordered an iced chai latte, the barista there is incredibly friendly and made an amazing latte. They also offer pastries to accompany the coffee which is always a nice touch. One of the best coffees I've had while in Jacksonville! It's a walk up and go, coffee stand but don't let that stop you. They have outdoor seating in the plaza which is nicely decorated with lights, umbrellas and artwork/murals.
