The 1 star is for the SHOP only... not sure about the restaurant, bar etc... I am visiting from TN and just wanted to take some quality cheese and brats home......Get rid of the lady in the shop... she is rude!!! I would have spent probably 4 times what I did..... if I hadn't felt like I was an inconvenience.... and there was nobody else in there... I walked around and checked out the bar/restaurant/stage, looks like fun, the girls at the desk spoke, were friendly, ask if they could help etc... you know... hospitality!! eat and drink there but until they make a personnel change... avoid the shop and buy your brats and cheese elsewhere... read more

Food in the restaurant area was really good and reasonably priced. The hostess was super friendly and helpful and our waitress was amazing and just a bundle of cheerful energy. You could tell those two young ladies really enjoy their jobs and dealing with people but the two old ladies on the other hand working the store part where the cheese and brats are are super unfriendly and have awful attitudes. Went on a Sunday around lunch time. The place was busy, because of Packers game, but I was seated right away. Waited about 40 minutes and no waitress even came by to take an order... not even drinks. I understand wait times being longer during busy times, but this was ridiculous. Menu looked good and prices decent, but this negative experience makes me not want to give them another shot. We always stop here whenever we are in Wisconsin. A HUGE variety of brats and CHEESE!! They also have a restaurant and bar. Love to buy the fresh cheese and my hubby LOVES the meat. The prices are fair for what you get. The quality of the food is worth it. The cheese and meat are delicious! Customer Service is excellent! The place has been in business since 1961. I'm not really sure what to make of the Brat Stop. From the outside it looks like a bunker, but inside is a weird amalgamation of giant bar, greasy restaurant and tourist trap cheese shop. First - the bar. It's WAY bigger than I would have expected and seems to attract a big crowd for football/sporting events. When we visited, it was decorated up for Halloween and chock full of people in jerseys. The bar seems to be fairly townie but overall "a-ok". Second, the "restaurant" - it seems tacked on to the bar and is a mishmash of booths, beat up stack chairs and lots of home remodeling quality wood trim. Nothing looks like it's been updated since 1987. I made the mistake of looking up and saw tons of dirty cobwebs and some of the filthiest fan blades (see pic) on earth. The floor was full of food and looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a good long while. Absolutely disgusting. Food wise, expect Sysco's best - I had a burger and it was decent but overpriced. Service was very nice but obviously untrained (no drink refills, had to ask for things like napkins). Finally, the store - essentially, it's the same stuff (New Glarus, brick cheese and some brats) that you can get at Woodmans across the way, but WAY more expensive. First time here...decided to try it after reading Yelp reviews and, being originally a Wisconsinite, craving a brat. It seemed from the reviews the people loved it and really liked the food or didn't care for it and wondered what all the fuss is about...I guess we'll call them non-Wisconsinites! Not to say there are no bad Brats, but taste and opinions can be influenced by many factors; someone who doesn't like the idea of eating sushi will probably not write a good review. I kept it simple and just ordered the traditional classic Brat combo the included the Brat in a bun, Fries, Saurkraut, and a Pickle. My drink was simply water with lemon so my total before tax was $9.80...a reasonable price for a really good brat! I added chopped onions, the kraut, and some mustard (OK, a little ketchup, too) and devoured it before I thought to take a picture of it fully dressed. I really wanted to love this place, as it has a long history behind it and sounds like it should be the best kept secret of Wisconsin. But alas, it seems to be nothing more than a tourist trap. One of the cool things about this place is that it has a ton of video games (and the machines are in fairly good shape as well) and other random machines around -- is super spacious so you do have room to wander -- and has a shop attached to it as well. Parking is also fairly generous and there's multiple entrances you can get in from. Unfortunately, the food is where this place comes short. It's not exactly bad, small portions, or very pricey... but the inconsistency of quality between dishes (and even within items in the same dish) makes it difficult to recommend this place to others when you need a guaranteed good experience. Here's what I thought about some of the items I tried: Cheese curds - Tastes a bit like fried mozzarella sticks. Batter was crisp and the cheese was firm -- not the best or worst I've had. Broasted chicken - Tender meat, a bit on the salty side. Skin was nice and crisp but I wasn't a fan of the seasoning. Steak sandwich - Pretty generous sized portion of meat but could've been a bit more flavorful (the onions were almost mandatory for flavor). Kind of juicy but I would've preferred a smaller but thicker cut of steak to a thin, large piece. Ribs - Fairly tender, but nothing special about the flavor. Mashed potatoes - Could've been better, not really fluffy or buttery enough. Prime rib sandwich - The prime rib was tasty and juicy. The cut included just the right amount of fat. This was probably the best item I had. Traditional brat and veal brat - These brats were alright, not the best I've ever had... but pretty juicy and tasty. A bit pricey for what you're getting though -- but a solid choice of something to order if you're going to a place named Brat Stop. Overall, an interesting place to go to if you're just doing some local tourism (such as visiting the Cheese Castle as well). But not a hidden culinary gem. read more

Brat Stop is what it is: a last resort restaurant that doesn't have a drive-thru before you hit the state line of Illinois. I've been here a million times growing up, but I remember it being better than my most recent trip. It was SO LOUD. Like, we weren't in the bar section, and I could barely hear my father across the two-top table. I know sometimes there's live music here, but that wasn't the case. It was just radio/DJ loudness, to the point that it hurt my ears. This wasn't helped by the swarms of children that kept running around. I don't know why they were in the bar section in the first place, but because our table was right at a doorway, kids kept running (not walking, full on running) between the rooms, causing issues and stress between them and the customers and staff. I don't know why staff didn't try to stop it, since the parents obviously didn't care. The food is mediocre. Brat Stop's saving grace is, and always have been, their cheese curds (large order, $9.99). They're always delicious. They're fried but not too greasy, flavorful but not too massive of curds. They're why I used to love coming here, and are the only positive I had while dining here this time. My dad ordered a famous brat plate ($9.25). I asked him how it was, and he gave a shrug and said, " 's alright." I ordered the Grilled 3 Cheese and Ham, which comes with ham, cheddar, muenster, provolone, and grilled mushrooms, as well as fries ($10.99). It was disgusting. First, you couldn't taste any cheese. Of any kind. At all. I could SEE at least one cheese, so I know it was on there, but there was no taste. All you could taste was salt from the cheap deli ham slices that were loaded onto the sandwich. The bread wasn't grilled well, it was just wet with butter, so it was really oily and greasy to eat. And the mushrooms? Pretty confident they were from a can. They also had no flavor. I pretty much paid eleven bucks to lick a salt rock for half an hour. And as for little, pettier things, there were flies that kept flitting around our table which got old pretty quickly, and our condiments were all empty. Service was pretty fast, but our waiter didn't seem to care much, and only gave us one word questions and replies. If you find yourself here, be prepared for loud, family-filled road trip nonsense. Been a very long time since I visited, We went in to be greeted by a long hair old bouncer, probably the one that I used to get carded from when I was 18 back in the late 70s( Good God ) where did the time go. So the atmosphere is a typical bar for bands, dirty and in kept, on the bright side my feet didn't stick to the floor. I thought I would have a brat since that is a signature dish. I selected a veal Brat that was flat and void of flavor. I chose red cabbage and the fries which were battered and really tasty. My Arteries are feeling it today. We also had the appetizer platter which had fried cheddar cheese curds which were amazing . Would I return No. I went there on a Groupon and they couldn't find me in the system even though it showed I purchased it, soooo unfortunately I paid regular price. Meat, cheese and beer! What more could you want?! This is a Midwestern's dream. You must start with the cheese soup and it's probably silly not to get the sampler plate of all the sausages. It was all so good! The brats are to die for and the Sunday night Prime Rib is huge and very affordable. Considering that the week before we spent about twice as much for a smaller and less delicious cut of meat. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the extensive beer list also added to the pleasant experience. After this delectable meal, gotta stop in the cheese shop and stock up for home. Okay- so I'm coming from Illinois, into WI during COVID in June. I am also a vegetarian...so the brat stop may not have been my finest choice... but my kids and husband chose The Brat Stop to eat at... We walked in with masks... there was hand sanitizer at the hostess stand. We used some but I had the feeling that we were given strange looks because of our masks. No one, not even the servers were wearing masks. We were seated right in the center of the restaurant surrounded by lots of other diners that were not 6ft away from us. To me it was like living in pre-COVID. My husband ordered a Moon Man on tap (my favorite beer...if you haven't tried one, and your in WI, it's a must). The beer was luke warm. The only thing on the menu for me was a Caesar salad. When it was brought to me, there was about a teaspoon drizzle of dressing. I tried to request a side of the dressing, but our server was nowhere to be found. My kids ate off the kids menu and enjoyed their corn dog, hamburger and grilled cheese. As for the environment, I felt like I was in a dive bar..sticky floors, musty air from residual years of smoking and low lighting. Always a good place to stop and never disappoints! Brat Stop has history, amazing food that is reasonably priced and the staff is always friendly. I love low key and down to earth atmosphere the Brat Stop provides. Just recently my husband took a quick getaway and our first night tried a "new" restaurant, paid $50 for almost half the food and the quality was subpar also they were out of the New Glarus beer, we definitely learned our lesson and just ate at the Brat Stop the next two nights. The value for the amount and quality of food far exceeded any other restaurant in the area. A quick trip from Chicago is worth it for the cheese curds and Spotted Cow on tap :-) read more

There really isn't anything nice to say about this place. The service was terrible due to the fact that the servers are not assigned sections; our poor server had tables randomly throughout the huge restaurant. We also noticed the same for other servers. Also, the whole experience took way too long. I'm not sure why a gyro and 2 brats would need to take any longer than 15 mins, but we waited 30 mins for our food. The food was terrible. The gyro plate was almost inedible. It was beyond over cooked and dry; in places it had the consistency of an uncooked noodle it was that crispy. The brats could have been decent if it wasn't for the stale dried out buns. The tater tots came out undercooked and soaked in oil. This is just a bad place to eat. read more

The Brat Stop was great! Of course we had brats because it's the Brat Stop but brats are only a fraction of the menu choices. I had the delicious jalapeño cheddar brat with a side salad and hubby had a different flavor brat ( I can't remember what it was) but he said it was yummy! Nice find in my drive home yesterday. Great bar, excellent service and a decent selection of beer. I ordered the Cajun brat and the flavors were really good. I came in around 3:30p so the brat was a little over cooked. I'm guessing it had been prepared much earlier. Again, great flavors but way over cooked for my tastes. I've been coming here for a very long time, ever since I was a little girl. I recently started using a wheelchair as my primary mode for transportation, and they are not the best for accessibility. The bathroom specifically was awful. I could not get close to the toilet for the transfer, I could only face the toilet with my foot plate hitting. In that case, the stall door could not close behind me. Luckily my moms are strong enough to lift me and bring me over. There would be no way a power wheelchaor could use it. They also said the one in the cheese shop would be better to use... it was actually worse. Not a great set up and barely meet ADA requirements. read more

This place has decent food and felt more like a tourist trap. Everyone at the table ordered a different brat to try. The buns were really stale and had no flavor to it. Halfway through people were taking the meat out of the buns to eat. The quality of each brat was inconsistent. I had the jalapeno cheddar which was cooked right but tasted salty. One person's brat was really dry. Other's were cooked well and tasted fine. The fries that came with the meal were really good. Nice and crispy texture with soft inside. There is an arcade with pinball and darts. A nice place to hang out while waiting for your food. There is also a shop where you can buy cheese and Wisconsin beer.
