My family and I used to come here every week when I was a kid, I have a LOT of fond memories here. Yesterday was my first time back in about 15 years, and I was sad to see that the place needed a little TLC. I'm going to be lenient with my review because I know the potential of the Brat Stop. I've seen it at its best. I have a feeling that the downturn from covid is the culprit of most of the cons to our meal yesterday. I'll start with the positives: - cheese curds: YES PLEASE. They were delicious as always. - Cheese fries: I literally dream about the cheese fries here. I've traveled the country and lived in 5 different states. These are hands down the best cheese fries you will EVER eat. I promise. They were exactly as I remembered them. If there is anything you take away from this review- it's get the cheese fries. Heck, get several orders. You will not regret it! - fried chicken: Get out of here. Soooo good. Cons: - I ordered what I knew was always the best, and was not disappointed. My family on the other hand ordered brats and meatloaf. I didn't try their food, but they were slightly underwhelmed. I was disappointed because this was the first time we had all been back in a super long time. It was the end of the holiday weekend though, so that probably played into it. - cleanliness: listen. The brat stop is a dive bar/diner type atmosphere. That's what it's always been, and I didn't go in expecting anything else. I love it for what it is. That said, our table was sticky, there was a big puddle of water from a cooler leaking in the gift shop, and the place smelled like stale beer. Not what I had hoped for, and I hope management sees this because I know that with a little elbow grease this place could come back to its full glory. Again, it was the end of a holiday weekend and they seemed short staffed. They might just being doing the best they can with limited resources, just like the rest of the service industry. - service: not bad, but mediocre. I'm not going to down knock them much though because we all know there is an insane staffing shortage, and it's slim pickings out there. I had lunch at the Brat Stop today after not having been here in a long while. The service I received from my server was very good and she had a great recommendation for a Cajun brat for lunch. This place is sensory overload with the number of screens, adults and kids (and tourist buses). It is a sanctuary of Wisconsin kitsch. I enjoyed my brat, as well as my sides of potato salad and red cabbage. Their gift store and deli is great with lots of selections of cheese, meat and beer - staples of Wisconsin life. As a Wisconsin native that often makes the trek from Southern Indiana to visit family and this is a new addition to the approved stop list/worth repeating. This place is classic Wisconsin. Super friendly, lots of chips cheese brats beer, and carpet on the wall next to the booth we were seated at. It is huge! Two bars, a video game area, plenty of seating, a stage that I imagine is rockin and cheese/sausage store. The hubs was happy with a variety New Glarus and seasonal offerings. Over 40 options. We started with a cheese curds appetizer. Heaven. Came with ranch and marinara. I ordered a chedderwurst with german potato salad and red cabbage and he went for the garlic bratwurst. They have American potato salad and German. The German is exactly what I had been craving. Warm and vinegar sauce was delish. The bread for the brat rolls was fantastic and fresh. Brat stop in the summer has the support for good service but after Labor Day forget it. Obviously by observation they were way understaffed. (People leaving? Etc.) we waited too long for our order of just drinks? They have great food but it bums me out when the consistency wanes. I ordered a simple Greek salad with chicken and falafel.(see pictures of falafel) after I was DONE with the salad we finally told the server after 20 mins of waiting that the salad did not have the falafel. She brought me the falafel and I could NOT believe it. One of the falafel had a BITE OUT OF IT. My guess is the staff is irritated with management or just all around tired after a long summer. I am disappointed at a place that I WANT to succeed. It could of been a one off but buyer beware. read more

We entered the lion's den- well, the Packer's den- and lived to tell about it. I gotta say, as a Bears fan walking into what is predominantly a Green Bay Packers bar, it's quite a rush! Lol I think it really got my adrenaline flowing, which was a shock to know I actually have some. Lol The Brat Stop had been on our list for years. We finally went on a Sunday, a meeting place to pick up our smoked Thanksgiving turkey, and walked into a dark and dank wood-paneled walled bar, amidst a sea of elevated green and gold, being seated at the lowest table in the joint. Clearly, we were being sent a message! Haha No, we were greeted and treated warmly and even noted both Bears and Packers are represented. The brats brought us in, and the brats are what will bring us back! My goodness, they were all delicious!! between my husband, myself and my out-of-town family, we sampled a large variety including cheddar jalapeño, garlic, polish, Cajun and Wisconsin cheddar. I think my faves were the garlic and the Cajun, but there wasn't one I didn't like. Next time we go, we will pick up a variety of fresh brats from their attached store for a third to half the cost of the restaurant. And then we'll fail miserably at cooking them just as beautifully, but we will try nonetheless! If you are in the area, it's definitely worth a stop. It's a pretty large place with a stage for their concerts, and our server was great. And the bartender made a nice margarita. I came here before shopping at the outlet mall in Pleasant Prairie. We ordered the fried cheese curds for an appetizer which were fantastic. They come with both a marinara and ranch sauce. I also really wanted to try the cheese soup. This was just okay... not really what I expected. I was hoping for a thicker beer cheese soup like they have at Moosejaw in Wisconsin Dells. For my meal, I had the Jalapeno Cheddar Brat with cole slaw and potato salad. The brat had great flavor, but I felt like the bread was a bit overwhelming. The potato salad was good, but a little too creamy. I actually added some onion to it. The cole slaw was good, also very creamy. The place is not the cleanest and the wait staff is pretty slow and inattentive. I also felt like the Brat Stop was a bit overpriced. That is why I am docking the Brat Stop a star. I also felt that the connected shop was a little grundgy... it just seemed very out of place! read more

I have to echo the other recent reviews about the appalling lack of COVID-19 protections. I've been coming to The Brat Stop since I was a kid, so I know what to expect as far as atmosphere and food. However, I was truly shocked at the lack of basic protections being undertaken by the staff here - absolutely none one them were wearing face coverings of any type. The McDonald's next door is taking better precautions. There were no obvious social distancing measure in place and I reiterate - NOT A SINGLE STAFF PERSON HAD ON A MASK. We felt completely unsafe and did not eat here. This is absolutely irresponsible of management given the number of people traveling interstate who stop at The Brat Stop. Their employees and customers deserve better protections. read more

My wife and I stopped for lunch. We were seated right away and our server arrived promptly asking us what we would like to drink. I ordered a pint of cider and she had an iced tea. We liked that the waiter asked if ahe wanted sweetened or unsweetened. Our drinks were delivered and we ordered our food. I had the garlic brat with a side of chili over it and American potato salad. My wife had the daily special, a chicken garlic parmesean brat with french fries. The meals also came with our choice of cabbage as well as potatoes. My garlic brat was excellent, I could really taste the garlic, and the American potato salad was definitely edible. The chili on the other hand left much to be desired. It was very tasteless like it had been made with no chili powder, cumin or any other spices one would put in chili. My wife's brat was average, edible but nothing stellar, the fries were excellent and the red cabbage was excellent. For the most part we enjoyed our meal and the excellent service. I also like that it's a package store so I can pick up some cheese, beer or other items to bring home. The price was good as well, good value for the money. I'm giving it 3 stars because I think the food was good, about average for pub or bar food. We will be back to try out their other brats. It also would be nice if The Brat Stop added chorizo and Italian sausage to the menu. read more

A very nice place with huge potential. Most of the staff are wonderful. The drinks and food are affordable and most of the people are nice. But, they also host bands. If you go there you need to know whether or not a band will be playing, even if you've been there a few hours. They will insist you pay their "cover fee" for the band even if you've spent hundreds already. I get the need for cover charges for bands, but I feel there should be some leeway especially for people that have been there awhile. Their policy has no leeway at all. read more

The fried cheese curds were great but husband's brat was cold as was the bun. The sauerkraut served with my brat tasted very strange. I've never been to Wisconsin before, so when I ventured across the border for a wedding one of the things on my list of to-do's was to get some cheese (which I'm sure is the exact same as the Wisconsin cheese that's sold here in Illinois). We stopped here because it was close to the hwy. I liked this place. Large selection of cheese, meats, beer. Had tons of little knick knacks, and the staff was very friendly. Did not try the restaurant, but it seemed busy. (And smelled good). The prices seemed reasonable, you could get everything from a buffalo flavored cheese to a 19 year aged cheddar. I was all excited to open the cheese curds that I bought on the way home, and when we tried them, they weren't squeeky like normal cheese curds, but rather just tasted like chunks of cheese :( Disappointing. read more

Cheese and brats are a Wisconsin specialty....at least the folk here would like you to think so. Having started with just a bar and 8 stools in 1961, the Brat Stop is a "must do" if you ever find yourself at the border of Wisconsin and Illinois. This isn't your typical road side stop......slightly dysfunctional, it wants to be a bar.........no....a restaurant........no...a music venue........no....a cheese shop.......no....a beer store........whichever one wins out, everyone is a winner. We had decided to have lunch and seated in a booth we took in the 1970's Vegas style decor with stucco so thick on the roof it looked like it was going to reach down and touch my head at some point. The walls beside the booth were covered in a dull grey carpet which I have yet to understand in my life why folks put carpet on walls? We ordered brats and beer which were reasonable priced. The place was packed for lunch and tons of folks at the bar....at lunch....during the week? Hmmm...... The menu is somewhat extensive for such a joint, but what stood out was the map on the very front of it....? We were there, why would we need to see it on a map? The indicated bands that had played there and though at least 10 were big time..........in the early 1980s????? After that, nothing....guess Brat Stop lost the title of hip joint with the music world? Service was nice and after our meal we headed over to the cheese and meat store..........there we were able to look at all the cheeses and meats. Cheese Curds were everywhere and claimed to be "sweaky" cheese? Not sure what that means..........meats were even more entertaining as I looked closely (photos added here) at the Old Style and PBR bottle shaped sausages!!!!!! Very cool. This place is pretty big, the menu is decent but really you go here for brats (duh) sorry to my vegetarian friend who came with us, Ryan said they had decent sandwich options (they don't) The service was good, the cheese curds were great and new glarus?? We couldn't even find someone to help us. We wanted cheese and beer and brats to bring home. After waiting 15 minutes we left and went to a competitor about 3 miles away that will remain unnamed. We spent $260 on multitude of items. For this they get zero stars. Average them out and that's how I get the three stars. This place just screamed WISCONSIN to me, so I felt 100% certain that they would have cheese curds and New Glarus and I was not disappointed. They obviously also have brats. It had that satisfying pop when you bite into it. Strong work on the fries that came out with it, but you can choose other types of potatoes as a side instead. The German Potato Salad is also quite good. Your server will bring diced onion and relish to top your brat with if you ask, and I personally endorse that idea. Why can't other places do cheese curds quite as well as Wisconsin? I don't totally understand this. Sunday night, trying to get back to Chicago at a reasonable hour, in need of food so we hit this exit thinking KFC? or Wendy's? KFC was not my choice, they were closed luckily. Across the street we see Brat Stop. Hmmm we all think. Could go for a brat. Looking in the windows outside, we're all thinking its a store of some kind that sells cheese and brats. They have sausages also. Inside its a cross, of a grocery store and a bi-level version of "hog's and honey's"(a Chicago Bar with mechanical bull) Think extended area bar with hi and low decks and an open second floor addition which looks down onto the main floor. On a more popular night, it must be a rowdy good time. Lots of neon signs, Wisconsin-esque signs and stuff, few oddities like a life size Elvis pez dispenser(also for sale). They've got plenty of arcade games, mainly card games, Golden tee, cruisin' u.s.a., etc. Its a bar with the offerings of a restaurant and attached grocery for cheeses, summer sausages and brats etc. If you wanted a bit of the grocery cheese they offer added onto your food they can do that for very small fee. Lots of beer choices whether its domestic or import and many different size options. I prefer a stein of Killian's. Though the glass is petite and not very manly looking. Beer pricing is fair. On some nights they offer live music and Guitar hero competitions. The thought of paying a cover of $10-15 bucks, really struck me. Have to remember while it is located at an exit and visitors of WI would think its more of a souvenir type of place, its not. This is a part of Kenosha's nightly fun. Still $15 dollars? Heck no. Not unless it was a seriously good band. Plenty of nightly specials for alcohol and food to keep you coming back. Their brats suck! I am talking about the ones they serve late night. I've had enough brats and hot dogs of the hot dog warmer to know the good from the SUCK. The brat I had was insipid and rubbery. One brat, no toppings with a .25 cent bag of Lays chips for $5, this was on the late night menu. Crap! At least offer me some onions or something! The brat looked and tasted like its been rolling all night on a hot dog warmer. No grill marks. How sucky! I could've gotten this crap at 7-11. They offer a smaller selection of the cheeses, summer sausages and assorted pickled items during the late night. Most items are pretty cheap, for instance a 8 oz, extra sharp cheddar block only costs about $5.50. (Update - Just tasted the cheese and its not Sharp at all or is it "extra", Kraft does a better job, what a let down) If you can get a chance, during normal business hours ask for a taste of the cheese! . I may come back just to see how it is on a live event night or weekend. For a lazy Sunday night, I was surprised to find quite a few attractive women. Women were 21-25, men were older 26-35.
