This place is...an experience. That may sound negative, but it most assuredly is not. When you first pull into the parking lot, you think it might be a typical restaurant. But, when you step inside, your mind immediately goes to "sports bar". It isn't quite either. It's huge. The place just seems to go on and on. My wife and I both availed ourselves of one of the dishes that allowed you to pick a variety of types of brats. What I received was incredible. So flavorful. So much goodness. Used to come here all the time from Chicago. Since I was a kid, the Brat Stop was iconic and a place amongst most conversations. When I grew up and started dating on the other hand, the Brat Stop became a different story. Yes it was alway kinda seedy, I mean literally, hoodie machines in both the male and female bathrooms with enough space to have a party in each stall. Thats concerning, but the food was outstanding so I kept coming back. That all changed when I brought my girlfriend at the time (now shes my fiancé), and because shes black, they wouldn't stop staring at her, and actually wound up giving me my food first and making her wait almost 20 minutes before bringing it out cold. I refused to eat till she got her food and by that time my food was cold too. I had to ask the bartenders and servers multiple times why the wait when there wasn't a show that day, nor a crowd in house. All I got was a quick, it'll be out soon. Honestly if it takes you that long to make a brat after making mine in 5 minutes, clearly you're tampering with our food, and that's completely unacceptable especially when we ordered the same thing. I only got here once back in 2019 and I really hope on day I can make it back here. A buddy of mine and I were making a swing through Chicago, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Dyersville and then back to Chicago for a week. Our first natural reaction was "As soon as we get to Milwaukee, we need cheese and beer" and sure enough... there was the big CHEESE sign along the highway. Next thing we knew, we ended up in a place call the Brat Stop and it wasn't just cheese! We walk in there and its a bar, with enough TVs to watch a lot of sports, a shop on the side for souvenirs and to top it all off, a stage where apparently a lot of live music has been held. This place was like heave to us and the only regret we had was that we didn't look this up sooner to get to a time when there was a live music event. We of course ordered the cheese curds, and they came out fantastic. The waitress that served us was amazing too, making some recommendations off the menu for some of the other items. This will be no surprise to anyone who has ever stepped into the Brat Stop. It is the quintessential Wisconsin dining experience, if you love simple food done the Wisconsin way. First it's huge and has a lot going on. It's a restaurant, arcade, store and bar all rolled into one. The food is really the star of the show though, and with a name like the Brat Stop you simply must get a brat and they have many to choose from. The cheddar jalapeño brat was exactly how it sounds cheesy and spicy and cooked perfectly. Our waitress was great, gave us recommendations and was on top of it even though she was running between multiple tables. We also had cheese curds which were amazing, and I had the chili which was a great blend of spicy and meaty. My friend had the beer cheese soup which he really enjoyed. We were also there on trivia night which we participated in and actually won a gift card to come back and get more delicious food. It s an over the top snippet of the typical Wisconsin bar and grill and it hits on every mark. WIENERVILLE You can label it as touristy or even tacky, but this casual restaurant & gift shop remains a Wisconsin icon. On our way back to the Chi following a wedding in Lake Geneva, I was strongly advised by Mom S (the mother of Eric S) to hit up Brat Stop. Of the dozens of times I've blown by this place heading north on I-94, it wasn't until this past weekend that I got to experience the classic kitsch that is Brat Stop. We were seated around noon on a Sunday and got our drink on. The bloody mary ($5) got a thumbs-up from Nichole C, which came with a complimentary 10oz beer chaser! The first one came with bacon and a pickle spear, a welcome bonus (though sadly the 2nd round subbed out bacon for celery). Pints of Spotted Cow are $5, a good deal for the favorite local area brew. A small order of fried cheese curds ($8) came with ranch, marinara, and dill dip. They were delicious but expensive, especially for a small order. I can't imagine it's all that difficult for the kitchen to dump a couple dozen curds in the deep fryer, so I'm calling bullsh*t on Brat Stop (BS....on BS!?!?) My jalapeño cheddar brat ($10.29) was a bit of a let-down. I expected a sausage with bits of cheese & peppers inside (like I sometimes get at White Sox games), yet this was a standard cheddar brat with a few slices of fresh jalapeno on top. Still tasty as hell though, don't get me wrong. Instead of sauerkraut, I chose sweet&sour red cabbage as side #1 and it turned out to be a great decision. In lieu of french fries, I opted for the German potato salad as side #2 and it was incredible. Served *warm* with nice big rings of scalloped potato and bacon grease, it had a tinge of sweetness to it, just like my family makes. Surprisingly good, possibly one of the better potato Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 4 Among their many arcade games, I enjoyed some solid pinball action (they have 4 tables as of 6/9/19 -- Ghostbusters, Iron Maiden, Kiss and The Dark Knight). Each were $1/pp which is just about expensive as it gets. A poorly insulated HVAC duct kept dripping on me during my time over at the tables, to the point where a small puddle began forming on the floor. Maybe look into fixing that..... Brat Stop has a stage for live music and tons of seating for the hordes of bikers that rumble through Kenosha, Wisc. Their marquee sign out front has some pretty funny animations on it: a JAWS graphic mentioning their Friday fish frys, the 50's diner scene from Pulp Fiction advertising $5 milkshakes. Hell, even the menu had some amusing bits like "The Bratfather", offering you "a sausage you can't refuse". Brilliantly funny stuff! * TL;DR * Just as with Mars Cheese Castle, Brat Stop is just one of those places near the Illinois-Wisconsin border that is a must visit. I'll be the first to admit it's overpriced for what you get (a cheddar-pepper sausage w/onions & kraut at Sox Park is $6, compare that to $10+ here), and the booths were looking a bit worse for wear. Truthfully, the sides were nothing short of fantastic and my brat was delicious, yet I can't shake the feeling like slapping some sliced peppers on top was plain lazy. Even Johnsonville brats in the freezer aisle have all the good cheddar jalapeño stuff inside, so what gives? Brat Stop's got a very garage biker bar vibe to it that might not appeal to everyone, but I'm all for it. Brat was cooked great and had great flavor they use the perfect bun as well. Tots were average the slaw was great. Good beer selection and love the fact they serve the 20oz out of a chilled chalice. Completely turned off. Today they held a so called charity for St. Baldrich's Charging $5 per person for a cover. My husband is a retired Cook county sheriff so they let us in for free. Not once did they mention the charity. When I went to talk to the bar tender about this at 10:00p.m. She made a mockery of me. I asked her if she ever lost a person to childhood cancer and she laughed. I was so put off. The Brat Stop was trying to profit off of a charity that they were not even promoting. The band they had only mentioned the charity because my husband and I had mentioned they were collecting money for the charity and not mentioning it. Not much a has changed around here since they opened including the carpet on the walls of the booths and the lights on the ceilings in the stage area, or the retro space job on the ceiling. WI is known for cheese and brats. Well, I don't like regular brats. Regular brats have very little flavor to them. But this place is the only place I know that has flavored brats. I drive all the way here for them twice a year: once in the summer and once in the winter. It is worth the trip. I love the cajun brat and all of it's spices. I adore the garlic brat. Like, you can NEVER have too much garlic. And the veal brat is something to behold. Very tasty indeed.The cheese curds are the best in WI. You cannot go wrong with the broasted chicken special! Delicious. This is a restaurant that has a deli. You can purchase brats to go to throw on the grill yourself. They also sell the brat buns and sauerkraut. And make sure to try their bacon selection. Good stuff to bring home as well. Great beer selection, for the bar and to go! They have a stage, but I know I will never be here when they use it since I am so far from home. I don't think it is my kind of crowd either. I would like to view a football or basketball game here. The place is a total dive, it is in desperate need for renovations and WI is slacking in practicing the mandates associated with the pandemic. I've been coming to the Brat Stop for food and drink since before I was 21. Who used to come over the border into Wisconsin to get beer when we're underaged :-). It's been somewhat renovated here and there over the years but it's always been dependable for decent food, clean tables and bar, laid back atmosphere, and live music. I do recommend that if you want to buy various Wisconsin cheese and sausage and novelties, go down the road to Mars Cheese Castle or Tim and Tom's. On my recent visit , I had a brat and a drink. The price was a little higher than I hoped, but the ambience and the cool female bartender made up for it. Other guests near me were a little obnoxious, including a woman who use the F-word for every other word. Aside from her, the other customers were all enjoying their groups at their tables. I'll definitely return because this is the legendary Brat Stop and I've been coming here for decades. I still get what I come for, including a break from horrendous travel on I-94. read more

This place may be the biggest tourist trap in Wisconsin with the exception of the Dells. I remember it was the only place on the exit to HWY 50 and Lake Geneva when it was a little bar and market. In fairness they do offer a 'two brat plate' at $15 which makes each brat $7.50, more reasonable but still too expensive. Enough crying already. The brats are very good to excellent and you can have sauerkraut, red cabbage or coleslaw with it along with the potatoes of your choice. Brat mustard and onions are stationed around the bar. Full menu offered if you don't want a brat. Ice cold beer in a huge chilled 20 oz schooner if you like. Huge dining area and bar. Live bands on the weekends. There a cheese lovers market attached and of course BRATS! I feel that the brats were better tasting and bigger back in the day but still a worthy stop. You could buy brats nearly anywhere else outside of this area for half the cost of one brat ordered off of the menu here and get a whole pound! Two brats puts you at the price of a Friday all you can eat Fish Fry and three brats will put you into Saturday Night Prime Rib dinner. Okay now I'm really done crying about the value.
