My wife and I came here for our anniversary dinner. We had the fresh oysters, scallops, duck breast, broiled walleye, caramel pecan cheesecake, and chocolate crème brûlée. My wife also had a couple of cocktails and a few glasses of wine. There was a lot that we enjoyed. The oysters and scallops were fantastic, and both desserts were excellent. The bread and butter were also very good. My wife thought the wine selection was excellent as well. Unfortunately, there were a few things that kept the experience from being as good as it could have been. The biggest disappointment was the duck breast. The flavor was good, but the fat wasn't rendered properly and the skin wasn't crispy. The result was a chewy, rubbery texture that made the dish difficult to enjoy. My wife's walleye was cooked well, but the blueberry sauce was so strong that it overwhelmed much of the fish's flavor. The cocktails were okay--certainly drinkable, but not a standout. We also found a plastic bread bag tie in my wife's salad. We pointed it out to our waiter, who removed it from the table, but there was no apology, explanation, replacement salad, or any acknowledgment beyond taking it away. Finding a foreign object in your food is unfortunate; having it essentially ignored was disappointing. One other thing we noticed was that the sides felt like an afterthought. Both entrées came with the same carrots and Brussels sprouts. They were fine, but nothing particularly memorable, and serving the exact same sides with very different dishes made the entrées feel less thoughtfully composed. The service was generally good, although somewhat slow. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, but he also didn't seem especially familiar with the menu at times. Overall, this was a mixed experience, especially with a price tag north of $300. The appetizers, desserts, and wine were the highlights of the evening. There were moments where the meal was genuinely excellent, but the issues with both entrées, the uninspired sides, and the lack of response to finding a bread tie in the salad kept it from feeling like the special anniversary dinner we had hoped for. read more

First let's be clear that this location is great with an absolutely gorgeous view of the water with their lovely patio space which I highly recommend if you dine here during some nice weather. I've had some enjoyable dining experiences here with my family so I was excited to return with my wife on a visit to Little Rock. They put out a pretty good quality product, but we were sadly underwhelmed with the technique and flavors. A friend of mine made the comment that for as long as they've been around, perhaps they have not evolved enough during that time but nonetheless it is no surprise that they continue to bring in the clientele they do. We had a nice table outside with a great view of the river. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave a lot of recommendations. He was a bit stretched though and had too many tables to check on us frequently, so refills/butter/requests were slow. Started off with some mushroom soup and it was absolutely fantastic. Another in our party had an appetizer of some heirloom tomatoes I believe and she loved that as well. The bread was excellent but short on butter when requested. It went a bit downhill on the entrées. My salmon was a bit overcooked, and the potatoes & asparagus served with it looked to be cooked quite a while ago and were dried out and only lukewarm. My wife & son's duck were both dry and rubbery skin. They seemed like they had been cooked well in advance and maybe sat in a holding oven until served. Their sides were only lukewarm and kind of dry as well. Seemed like cafeteria quality. This was my first time there, but my wife had similar experiences the previous two visits. We had an incredible dinner at Brave New Restaurant celebrating my birthday. We started with the fresh heirloom tomato appetizer, which was the perfect light setup for the meal. For entrees, we ordered the walleye special--cooked beautifully--and the sea scallops. Oh my goodness....the scallops are the most premium entree on the menu, and they absolutely lived up to the price with their amazingly rich flavor. We paired everything with a great selection of wine and wrapped up the night with the chocolate brûlée, which was a spectacular finish. Excellent food, great ambiance, and a fantastic night out. Kudos to Chloe who I spoke with to make our reservation and then greeted us when we first arrived. The whole evening....five stars! read more

He says romaine lettuce takes too much water for it to grow (compared to other forms of lettuce). IKR!? Brave has situated themselves in the back of a glassed office building at the back of an extensive parking lot. It requires a little questioning where you should park, skeptically looking at the building you GPS is insistent holds the restaurant you seek, wandering around a bit trying to find a door to enter, finding an elevator ... Walking down a stark empty hallway where your mind starts questioning if you have fallen for some trick and someone's going to jump out and say 'BOO' at any moment, Contemplating turning around .... But then there it is. Finding Brave is an adventure... I kinda liked that. As soon as you walk into Brave you see the wall of windows facing the River. All I can say about the interior is that it looked spare and modern; I honestly noticed little else as I immediately opted to be sat outside. It is at this point i realized the beauty of Brave's location. In an office building away from the actual city (or FEELS that way) ... The office building serving as a shield around this little piece of serenity. I will say the balcony they sit you on is kinda cramped and they have tried to cram as many seats out there as possible. Despite knowing you should feel cramped; You don't. I was placed (as I was dining alone) at a tiny rectangle table in the middle of the balcony facing forward. I immediately noticed a bird feeder in the middle of a relatively large grassy area that I was given a front row seat to. Though the balcony was crowded everyone seemed to appreciate the quiet serenity around us as they all talked and laughed softly. I dine alone a lot and in a lot of different places. This was by far my favorite 'alone' dining experience. The waiters where fabulous. From the moment I was seated I never had to ask for a thing. My waiter knew the menu. He asked me my preferences and made recommendations. I had spent the day driving to Petit Jean state park and hiking about five miles. To say the least I was starved! I started off with the Cream of Brie soup. It came topped with walnuts, apples, and a pepper infused oil drizzle. It was lovely. I had expected it to be thick and sturdy like most cheese soups ... It wasn't. It was light and velvety textured combined with the earthy bite of walnut and crisp tartness of apple... It was a fabulous start to a meal. Next was the appetizer. After a little discussion with my fabulous waiter I decided in the Avocado Shrimp. I am not sure what I was expecting but I was not expecting the huge plate of delectable freshness that he placed before me. It was a huge mound of avocado that had been chopped up and tossed with other fresh vegetables an six huge gulf shrimp. I was a little leery of the grapefruit wedges placed around the plate... But not for long. Shrimp was perfectly cooked, local greens where crisp and light, the avocado was creamy and ripe. A little of each thing including a bit of grapefruit on the fork for each bite was perfection. I sat there eating what quite possibly was the best salad like thing I have ever eaten looking down at the river lined with trees while birds fluttered about and little bunny rabbits scampered along the river bank... And the sun began to set coloring the sky with the cityscape on my right. It was the type of dish you took the time to savor each bite in contemplative quiet. For my entree I followed my waiters recommendation and ordered the Talapia That was broiled in butter with a lemon orzo veggie salad accompanying it. The fish was very yummy ... However one part was slightly overlooked (thus the four stars not five - cant forgive overlooked fish). The lemon orzo salad was delightful and a perfect pairing for the buttered fish. I jokingly asked if i could take home a container - my waiter had them add a full serving in my to-go container. The grilled vegetables were also very good if not special or spectacular. I was too stuffed to contemplate desert though my waiter did try to tempt me. However he brought me a good strong cup of coffee; and I sat with my cup of coffee watching the last hint of sunlight fall below the horizon and the songs of the crickets began. The soft mummer of the surrounding patrons' conversation and a slight breeze from the river. It's not the kinda place you go with only an hour to order eat and leave... Though I'm sure if you told them prior to being seated you would be accommodated. This is the kind of restaurant everyone should go, sit outside, and savor ... Not necessarily the food but your surroundings. Go with no time restraints; you'll see that everything seems to slow down for a few hours as if life is on pause. I'm not sure why it is named Brave. I'm not sure if it is used at humor in that you have to be Brave to get there; Or perhaps it's a self proclaimed Brave. All I know is, I'm glad I braved my trepidations at the location and found a gem and an evening of refreshing tranquility - if only for a few hours. read more

Takeout box required if you order this entree. The roasted okra was the highlight of the vegetables I was served. Wife enjoyed the fresh cod with roasted vegetables. Service was impeccable. Quiet dining room, with great views out to the Arkansas River. Parking is not easy, so be prepared to walk around the water preservation reservoir in front of the office building to get in. We had an amazing dinner. We had 2 manhattans from their feature menu. The salmon appetizer was amazing. You have to try the pork tenderloin if they still have it on the feature menu. The stuffed squash with creamed spinach is amazing, not to mention the pork itself IJ this bacon crème sauce. I had the beef tenderloin. It was over cooked but the staff fixed it. Our server was amazing. She took great care of us. The manager came around to all the tables to chat with everyone. Great experience. Brave New isn't a place for the younger generation to party but if you're looking for a romantic date night or a relaxing night out with great food THIS is the place. We were blown away by the menu and everything we ate was phenomenal. We sat out on the deck and had romantic views of the river and the city both. I ordered a mocktail expecting mediocre at best but I should've known better because everything else was so great. I was pleasantly surprised because it was so so tasty. This is like my 4-5 time to try this restaurant. The food is fantastic EVERY SINGLE TIME! Today I had the grouper and finished it with peppermint chocolate cheesecake. It was just the right amount of everything. And every time we have gone the service has been impeccable. I definitely recommend this place. My friend had the Turkey sandwich which was just a basic Turkey sandwich lol. The chips were really good. But I had the lobster ravioli. $17. For 4. The part that really upset me was I specifically asked the waiter "in the ravioli, is it more of a purée or is it chunks of lobster meat" I wanted the meat. He told me it was chunks of lobster meat so I ordered it. It was all purée which I cannot stand, purée seafood is gross in my opinion. But I did not try to return it because the waiter had already been rude to us and was not attentive. Def not worth the price and I will not be back. read more

I like dining here because it showcases one of our state's many features, the Arkansas River. I've been lucky to see a male and female bald eagle milling about the river's edge. They have hummingbird feeders on the patio and I just think that's neat. My partner and I love to dine here after a particularly rough day at work because we can relax, decompress, eat good food, and just enjoy each other's company. I've never had bad service. Sometimes I get fish, sometimes I get scallops, sometimes I get pasta. Once, I came here with a large group for lunch. They handled us expertly. We had such a great lunch experience here. Initially I was on the fence based on the recent negative reviews about the host, waitstaff, and food. However, we were more interested in a view of the river than food. We were on our way back home to TX and wanted to make the trip home an experience. First of all, finding the restaurant within the building was quite an adventure. The restaurant is located in an office building but there aren't any signs on the building but for the way finding sign when you enter the parking lot. In any event, just be prepared that it's not a typical restaurant entrance. The house salad I ordered was quite impressive. It had roasted vegetables and chopped pickled onions with their house vinaigrette. Wi enjoyed thoroughly. We ordered the lobster roll and grilled cheese. The lobster tail meat was fresh. The bread it came in was good but may have been too much bread. The grilled cheese was phenomenal. Kudos to the chef who made the nontraditional grilled cheese with tomatoes, bacon, and juicy shrimp. A must try with a beautiful view. You'll also see lots of hummingbirds and finches. Very delightful. read more

What a lovely experience we had! We did the waitlist through Open Table and I'm honestly shocked they managed to squeeze us in. Very hospitable from the start. The location is a bit funky. There are no signs for how you enter, and you have to go into this little elevator enclave like you're going to a doctor's office. Some signage would have been helpful as there were lots of lost people. The outdoor seating is unbelievable. So serene and romantic. While the menu is focused without too many options, it was the perfect blend of meat and seafood for me. I had the mushroom soup with scallops. Both were prepared clean and tasty. The scallops were very tender and buttery. The smoked trout appetizer was also great with caperberries and horseradish dressing to jazz it up. Service was friendly and folksy. I wish our water would have offered us additional drinks - they are so high energy and buzzing in and out, I found it difficult to get any additional orders in. My wife and I have been to Brave New Restaurant several times over the years and it never fails to deliver on a fine dining experience. Finding Brave's can be challenging for the first time. It's in a commercial office type building that tells you nothing of the awesome restaurant inside. There is a tiny sign out by the street that has their name on it along with the other offices inside. Trust your map app though. You are at the right place. Just go up to the first floor in the elevator, go down the hall and your there. A reservation is really a must, otherwise, you may wait a while. But with a reservation, you are seated quickly by the staff. We were there with a group of friends for a get together and everyone was able to order something to their liking. To keep this review more concise, I'll just comment on my wife's and my entrees, though all the appetizers ordered were fresh and prepared well (such as the raw oysters, the avocado shrimp, the shrimp cocktail and the brie plate). My wife had the vegetable pasta, which was angel hair pasta with a light tomato sauce with an appropriate medley of grilled veggies. She ordered scallops as an add on and they were huge! About the size of golf balls, prepared excellently and very tender. I had a special of the night: Walleye, which was seasoned well and cooked to perfection! All the normal sides, such as salads and bread, were excellent as well. If you're looking for a fine dining experience, this restaurant is highly recommended but be prepared to pay. All entrees range from $29 to $58 and the appetizers are pretty expensive too. But it's worth it if that's what you're looking for as a dining experience. read more
