When they assembled this "bistro"from the "Hipster Bar Starter Kit" they bought from Amazon they should have included a chef that gave a crap about quality control. While the Cobb salad my lovely companion ordered was actually quite good, the "market price" Pastrami "stack" at $22 left me dumbfounded at the pittance of dry meat on stale, un-toasted rye bread with pickles and yellow mustard. At least the French fries I received with this "stack" of sadness reminded me of McDonald's- which is where I should have eaten for significantly less cost. I had heard and read good things about the is place before coming here and the service was good enough. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I'm writing this three weeks after I ate there and I just had a Rueben at a truck stop that was orders of magnitude better than the childish attempt of a sandwich that I failed to finish at Rude & Gnarly and it reminded me of how angry I was at a sandwich. I came here one evening while traveling Rock for my birthday with friends. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. I ordered the Sweet Potato Lemonade, which was refreshing and unique. The taste of sweet potato was not strong, and the cinnamon was a great addition. For an appetizer, the table ordered Shush Fries. These weren't my favorite, as Asiago cheese isn't my preferred cheese. For an entree, I ordered the Jelly Belly Burger. It was delicious! It had a flavor profile of a hearty burger combined with aspects of sweetness. The pork belly was a great touch that complemented the burger well. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this restaurant. On a whim, my family and I decided to try this spot based on online pictures. None of us expected the food to taste better than it looked! The pictures online are an accurate depiction of what arrives at the table. It's been a long time since I ate somewhere where everything was on the mark. The service, the food, the drinks...Brood & Barley didn't miss! We got the shrimp appetizer, secret menu mussels, fried olives, fried mozzarella, philly cheesesteak, the umami burger, steak frites, lemon arugula risotto, and the chicken sammy for food. All were delicious! The gravy that came with the steak frites?? Just...wow. Drinks were top tier as well. The tomatini really surprised me. It was clarified like a martini, but tasted like a sweet bloody mary. I was impressed. The old fashioned, lemon drop martini, peach lemon drop martini, and NA hibiscus 75 were all a hit as well. We'd been driving all day and just wanted a good meal. My boyfriend walked in first to ask about wait times and mentioned we'd have a service dog with us. The staff member he spoke with was immediately confrontational and said they don't allow service dogs .which violates the ADA, a federal law protecting service dog access. When my mom and I walked in with my dog, she tried to seat us on the patio instead of inside. I said I'd prefer to sit inside, and she looked at my dog and repeated that they don't allow dogs. I explained he's a service dog, which legally means he has to be allowed inside. She said "that doesn't matter." My mom pulled up the ADA guidelines on her phone and offered to show her, and she refused to even look. We asked to speak with the manager, and that's where things turned around. He was great -- apologized, said they do have a no-dog policy but that service dogs are an exception, and got us seated right away. Everyone else we dealt with after that was friendly and professional. I'll admit, in hindsight, I could have handled it a bit better too legally staff can only ask two specific questions about a service dog, and I could have just clarified that instead of jumping straight to asking for a manager. Brain fog from a long day of driving hit hard and I wasn't as patient as I could've been. Unfortunately the food didn't quite make up for the rough start. Both burgers we ordered came out overcooked, and the mac and cheese was pretty basic tasted like boxed mac and cheese with breadcrumbs on top. The salmon was probably the best dish of the night, but even that was just average. The manager handled the situation well, but a staff member turning away a service dog team and refusing to even acknowledge the law is a serious problem that needs addressing with training. For the people thinking that I probably had a face service dog that's why I have a put a picture of him below. read more

You can definitely tell there are certain dishes that put this place on the map, while others feel more like supporting cast -- but overall, it's worth a visit. Crabby Fries: Good, but pretty basic. Solid fries with cheese sauce and an Old Bay-style seasoning. Nothing fancy, but not bad either. Dad's Meatloaf: A well-put-together dish. On their own, the components weren't super bold, but when you got a bite of everything together it was balanced and cohesive. Comfort food done right. Atlantic Crab Cake: Real, noticeable pieces of large crab. It leans more sweet/umami than savory, so if that's your vibe, you'll love it. The potato & roasted corn hash (served with it) absolutely stole the show -- hands down the standout on the plate. Cocktails: Get the Sweet Potato Lemonade. Great ambiance and great service. Some dishes shine more than others, but the hits definitely make it worth going. read more

Our project team came to Brood & Barley one night for dinner in downtown Little Rock AR, an d it was a worthwhile experience. When I walked into the restaurant, it reminded me of a old style neighborhood sports bar and eatery where the locals hang out and everyone knows each other very well. I would not compare this to "Cheers," but it was very similar. The ambiance is beautiful and loved the hardwood flooring and the old style bar. We arrived just in time for happy hour, and they had some excellent happy hour specials that we took advantage of for our team. We had the pretzel bites and the French fries which were wonderful. There was something else that someone ordered which appeared to be a salad , but could not remember what it was, but it tasted excellent. The menu was impressive and had a great selection of entrees. They even had a TV tray dinner entree where you can get your meal on a TV tray that came with a cookie for dessert. It was very creative and impressive, and my coworkers enjoyed it very much. I decided to go with the Dad's meatloaf entree which was bison meatloaf. It was absolutely the best meatloaf I have put in my mouth! I had never had bison meat before, and had heard it is healthy for you, so this was a very nice change of pace from regular meat. It tasted lighter and full of flavor and comfort. I loved every bite I took of the meatloaf! Our server, Kelsey, was excellent and full of high spirits. She did a wonderful job taking care of our project team. She was very professional and demonstrated excellent customer service. Brood & Barley is a fantastic neighborhood restaurant in downtown Little Rock, and I would be proud to come back here again if I am in town for business. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Little Rock AR for the first time. It has character and is fun to hang out with friends here for a drink and a great meal. On a work fueled road trip across the country, I decided to have some dinner in Little Rock. This place did not disappoint the weary traveler. The atmosphere is super upbeat, upscale, and yet very friendly and inviting. The staff is clearly busy working their magic but still spending time to make you feel welcome. Sometimes an old-fashioned can be hit and miss but this place makes a good one that's not over the top with aesthetics. It's just a great overall drink. Not too sweet, not too strong, but a perfect balance between the two. The steak and crawfish were cooked perfectly and mixed with the barley risotto tasted absolutely amazing! Most of the other food items that I saw tempted me into believing that I would have FOMO, but this meal really delivered. Overall, this is a great place to stop for dinner, possibly take some friends or a date or just sit at the bar and have a good meal and cocktail. Highly recommended! read more

Came here on a random google search for something near the library we were at. What a great choice, this place was absolutely adorable. I loved the vibe inside, they had an entire little balcony decorated for winter holiday season, and lots of natural wood in a modern setting. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and dinner. We're pretty in to Old Fashioneds in Wisconsin, but I hate to say this one was way better than a good ole Wisconsin Old Fashioned -- they didn't bother with the fluff, just a focus on the booze. Plus, they used a single large ice cube so even as time went by, it didn't get crazy watered down (this is why I normally hate ice in my drink). I was going to order the scallop dish on the menu, but our bartender mentioned that they had a scallop special with purple smashed potatoes. I wasn't starving, so this sounded like a better, smaller alternative. The smashed potatoes were a total dud. There was absolutely zero flavoring on them, I think they might have just baked them plain...? Thankfully potatoes are delicious, so even plain and a little cooked they're not terrible. When I make smashed potatoes, though, I expect them to be a little browned and crispy on the outside (they weren't, but I don't think that'd be ideal in this dish anyway). Mashed might have been my option here, but to each their own. The potatoes were designed to be the bed over which the scallops sat, which is all fine and well, but the scallops weren't (as they shouldn't have been) overly sauced so it's not like that dripped down a ton to coat the potatoes. All this to say, the scallops were divine. They were perfectly cooked and browned. When I make scallops I generally don't use anything besides salt/pepper, but these scallops had just the right amount of slight and subtle cream/topping to them. It was delicious and absolutely overshadowed any disappointment with the potatoes. Would definitely order scallops here again, even if they are pricey. For dessert, my coworker ordered the banana bread pudding, which looked beautiful and he confirmed that it was delicious. I don't love banana bread, but I did try the ice cream and caramel on top, and even that was a delight. I opted to drink my dessert, and had a really lovely 10 yr Tawny port. I didn't end up seeing the final bill, but was assured it was expensive lol. Even so, we came back here the next week for their steak, frites, and martinis deal. Their martinis are $8 on Monday, but I just loved their old fashioned that I did that instead -- and during happy hour it's only $6. Definitely had 2. The steak and frites dish is discounted all day Monday so it's $25 total. I thought it was a good deal and a good dish, but I'm not usually a red meat eater so don't take my word for it. Instead, one of my coworkers who came with me is really into the carnivore diet, thought it was excellent, and ordered a second steak sans frites. Everybody at the table pretty much cleared their plates. I didn't love the gravy getting on the frites, but not a huge deal, I know some people do. Overall, the food here is really good, but the old fashioneds would keep bringing me back (and actually, they did... we ran in for happy hour one more time the day before we left). Take advantage of the happy hours and deals, because it can get pricey. read more

And the barley mixture it sat on was simply heaven on a plate! Thanks to a "Local" friend who suggested we go here (we thought he seriously oversold it) we were more than pleasantly surprised.
