The margs are solid, but I'd recommend a shot of Gran Marnier on the side to add to it - they are a bit sweet. No-frills Mexican place that hangs in the middle of the pack. There's no shortage of taquieras in Melrose Park, especially along the stretch of North Avenue from Wolf Rd to Harlem. You can get your fill of limonada, carne asada, and muy picante salsas at any of these local spots, and Bravo is no exception. Stopping in for lunch, they feature specials priced from $5.99 and up. I went with my standby order of enchiladas--1 chicken, 1 beef--and was neither impressed nor disappointed. When asked about receiving red sauce vs. green sauce, I politely requested one of each, but when my food arrived I saw only salsa verde, no salsa roja. Lunch special came with refried beans and rice, and for $6 was a great value. Good homemade chips & salsa; the salsa had plenty of kick, way more so than other places. No free refills on horchata, sadly, and it tasted different that others I've had. Service was adequate, although I had to repeat my order again to the lone waitress/barkeep. Restaurant was clean and the dining area is lightly decorated. Hilarious (subtitled) soap operas were on TV, which I've come to expect at these types of places. I love coming here for lunch! I always get the flautas de tinga de pollo. They are DELICIOUS!!!! The food is fresh, which is hard to find currently in Northlake. The staff are friendly and prices are definitely affordable. I ordered un platillo de flautas, platillo de chicharron en salsa verde, and a guacamole with chips. UGH!!!! SO GOOD!! Why three stars? Because it took three hours to have dinner here. Our server was friendly and I'm sure works very hard. We watched her turn probably a dozen tables on her own. However, our table somehow got lost. Forty five minutes after ordering drinks and apps, she came by to take our entree order. That's were things went further downhill. Our ticket got lost and it took an hour for her to figure that out because she was slammed. So all in all, 3 hours. The good: food is authentic and fresh. The guacamole and salsa are very tasty and the ceviche is alright. I wasn't impressed with it. We ordered 3 drunken margaritas (1 cucumber and 2 mango) that were huge and very flavorful. Our entrees were delicious. I had barbacoa and picadillo tacos and enjoyed both. I heard (because they wouldn't share) from my companions that the cheese enchiladas and al pastor were very good, too. I've been to Bravo several times. I guess you can say we are normals there. I've tried several of their foods and am always happy when I come here. I love their caldo de res (Beef Stew) and their Carne Oaxaqueña (skirt steak topped with mole sauce and melted cheese). Everything I've tried here is always good but those have to be some of my favorite dishes. I've also had their drinks and they're very good. They're not like some of these other places that put almost no liquor in them. The drinks always are delicious. They have outdoor seating when the weather is nice. I've been here a few times and I got to say that their food and drinks are great. Especially the mojitos. Usually not to busy so it doesn't feel crowded. Unless they hold an event then it gets really loud and crowded and most likely have to be 18 to enter. It's a good place for dates and nights out with friends/ family. Now here's a couple tips to deal with the service. 1 order your food quick cause it'll drag to get to you. Don't come here thinking you're going to get a quick bite to eat. 2 if you're ordering drinks order two at a time because it takes them some time to make them. It sucks having to wait. I have been here twice and both times I have left feeling full. Nice interior decor, very clean environment, with clean bathrooms. Table decor nice and simple, nothing too overdone There is music in the background but that does not take away from conversation at the table Service is great. Our waitress was friendly, smiling, and very attentive. My first issue with this place is that there is a little bit of a wait time for the food to come out. We were the only patrons at 4:00 pm but we were a table of five so I will not fault them entirely for that because the free chips and salsa make it worth the wait as does the complimentary soup; BUT a 20 minute wait for one dessert (fried ice cream) is quite ridiculous. Now I don't know how fried ice cream is made, but it isn't fried. It's a scoop of vanilla ice cream resting on a sweet taco salad - like shell. The ice cream is covered in what looks like fried tortilla shell sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, (or what some might call a bunuelo) and that gives the ice cream it's "fried" aspect. Either way, a 20-minute wait for one dessert is kind of ridiculous, but the ice cream was good so again, I will let the wait for the dessert slide this time Skip the macaroni and cheese. This place does not do their mac and cheese well, it's very runny and tasteless. Food portions are HUGE. You can probably split your plate with a companion. The food is decent. The chicken wrap comes in a burrito tortilla, which does not take away from the flavor. The chopped salad is very good, made with romaine and assorted chopped vegetables like carrots, cucumber, and cheese and it is very hearty. Price wise, they charge average what most places charge.
