Once in a while Yelp leads you to a hidden gem that you would never have found otherwise. While on our way home Sunday night we were in the mood for a quick bite. Onto Yelp and we find Brazzas. 4-1/2 stars on 55 reviews - let's look. The place is nice, but unassuming. We walked up to the counter and the friendly lady and gentleman (I'd guess husband and wife) cheerfully took our order - a whole chicken dinner. We were told it would be about 15 minutes for a chicken to be ready and we agreed to wait. How can you complain about getting fresh food? We got our chicken that came with a salad with avocado and rice and beans. The beans were not your typical Latin beans. These were white beans that were not swimming in sauce. The salad was nothing special, but was fresh. The chicken was excellent! Well cooked, juicy and tasty. The green sauce for the chicken was terrific too, not too spicy as some tend to be. I'm happy to add Brazzas to our Connecticut 95 food list! read more

5 stars because they grill the food after we ordered. We got mixed grill #3 and shared between 2 people for lunch. ( could be for3). The steak was very tasty and tender. Salmon was served hot off the grill with some charred skin , served with thin tomato based sauce. Mussels were very tender and fresh. Chicken was grilled and served cut into small pieces. French fried yucca was crispy . It also came with potatoes but we asked them to change it to plantain. Would retirn here the next time we're near New Haven. read more

I decided to try this place out because the food part of the reviews were all very positive. It was also very convenient since I had jut driven by. I'll say first that the young man, the only person working until another young lady appeared when I was leaving, and likely the owner, was very nice and accommodating. I was the only customer there and it was 7:00 pm. There were about 5 whole roasted chickens in sight which looked and smelled very good. I'll also say that I ordered a quarter chicken meal which comes with rice, beans, corn and salad. I'm eating Keto these days so the chicken was all I could have along with the salad. The young man agreed to sauté up some fresh veggies and give me more salad. Very accommodating. As you'll see by the picture I've posted, it was a very colorful plate. It tastes just as colorful. Would I like to come back and try other items? Well, another couple came in shortly after me and preserved what turned out to be a beautiful combo plate with different meats, chicken, shrimp and veggies. It looked great and I'm sure tastes same. So yes. I'd like to try some other things. However, as another Yelper very accurately pointed out, the surroundings were a really if turnoff. The lack of a cohesive menu didn't bother me so much, but the look and feel of the menu as actually presented, along with the decor, furniture and bathroom really need to revamped. The cushions are ripped in several places, old pieces of the menu remain on the wall near the register and the bathroom was just plain awful. I'm not sure if the owner reads these reviews but if he wants to remain in business much longer he really needs to clean the place up. I gave it 3 stars because the food is really worth trying. This place serves up some of the best meals in CT. The taste and quality of the food here is amazing and unmatched by restaurants similar in size! My favorites are the roasted chicken and whole bronzino special. The chef is a master of his craft and offers a variety of specials that arent on the menu so make sure to inquire about them. In terms of drinks, they sell beer and aqua fria in addition to the normal fountain beverages. Feel free to bring your favorite wine. The decor is modern, clean, and casual, but its not the sexiest place because the design is somewhat reminiscent of a Chipotle type restaurant; however, this is one place that shouldnt be judged by it's cover because it delivers big on food and taste. The owner (chef) and his staff are super nice. This place is a must try and will be part of my bi-weekly rotation. It's definitely worth the drive to East Haven if you aren't close to the area. read more

I went today for a late lunch. Only me and the owner inside. Attractive interior, very clean looking too, I asked for a menu & he tells me they haven't any but look at the photos on the wall. Now there were maybe 4 photos! And no real explanation how to order. So I ask how long he's been open -- one year. I was like: come on guy, you need menus. So I ordered pulled pork with brown rice, black beans, lettuce, guac & sour cream, sample of green sauce went home and ate it all. FREAKING DELICIOUS! Decided to go back tonight and try the steak bowl and HOLA! Menus! Again food was DELICIOUS. It's true that it is all fresh tasting. The steak was medium just as I asked, it was cut up into bite size pieces so you didn't need a knife. Nicely seasoned plus I asked for some cilantro. I hope they stay.... I like their food and they have good prices. Steak bowl was $8.75 plus a dollar for guacamole. SWEET. read more

Thus tiny store front serves wonderful Ecuadorian food. I had the ribs with rice and beans and a salad. The ribs were out of this world. They were grilled fresh when I ordered them, and have been marinated to give them a deep flavor. The beans were tasty, although they could have used more garlic, then again, I background us with Caribbean flavors. This is not a fast food joint. The food is done up fresh when you order it. I'm a fair guy, right? I usually give marks based on food, but here I am at Brazzas and Charcoal for lunch with my family, and I get to experience what it looks like for a restaurant to struggle with it's identity, like a prepubescent teenager. Sadly, this lack of identity took away from what would have otherwise been a delicious meal. We enter the restaurant, and are greeted by an employee (manager? owner?). He is perfectly friendly, and works to explain. But, there are about 4 different types of meals you can get here, with hardly any synergy. Do you get the plate of meat, the Chipotle-style burrito bowl, or how about a cheeseburger with fries? There are sauces that you get for free, but are they for the burger? Or for the bowl? In the end we all get a burrito bowl, or their version of this. It took about ten minutes of explaining to get us to this point, and then finally, we can choose our toppings, and eat our food. The restaurant itself had multiple menus on either side of the restaurant on the walls, and was somewhat unappealing in terms of cleanliness, unfortunately. I wanted to love this place, the food could be the selling point, but the owners need to pick something and stick with it. Renovate the place so it shines like new, and then call me. If I could describe this place in one word...authentic. We went at an odd time so we were the only ones in the restaurant. The man behind the counter I assume was the owner was very helpful and welcoming. We decided to go with the mixed grill #1 for 2 people. You order at the counter and then the food is brought to you at the table. We were given some warm tortilla chips and salsa to start. Legit the best salsa I've ever had. The mixed grill includes steak tips, ribs, chicken, sausage, potatoes and corn soooo much food. Everything was delicious! I went here usually knowing I was going to get a good meal. Today was completely different. Normally I get a steak or chicken bowl. I went in and asked for a steak bowl to go. When I placed my order, it was like no one knew what that was, and you would normally think that they would know their own menu. I was given a scoop of rice and then asked what I wanted in it. I was given salad from the salad bar and two small spoon fulls of steak. It was not seasoned either. There must have been a change in ownership or something. Craving a deliciously crafted meal with amazing tastes that you crave days later? For us it was the next day, and thank goodness we had leftovers. CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP! I just wanted to get that out there before I started my review. They just took over about a week ago and it's completely different from the old Brazzas. The food is really good though, but the concept is buffet style Hispanic food, like Rice and beans and rotisserie chicken. They're just starting out, it looks like, and are still getting a hang of things. I'd recommend to the owner a menu, or at least something somewhere that tells you prices and specialties. They allow you to take what you want and then they weigh it. Their rotisserie is delicious and they have this special green sauce that's to die for! Will definitely come back. Do not be fooled by the humble exterior, the food here is incredible. This place literally blew my mind. My daughter had a steak platter, and I had ribs, both were just so good. The meat was tender, flavorful and juicy (I'm dreaming about those ribs right now) and the sides were perfectly seasoned. The portions were also perfect, leaning towards generous. I always err on the side of salt, but I didn't need any with this meal. Louis (the chef) makes this magical, creamy, pale green, herb sauce that he suggested we try with our meat. The smoky richness of the pork was further enhanced by the addition of this light, herbaceous topping. The sauce was so good, in fact, that I quickly purchased a pint to take home with us. My plan is to put it on everything. Don't ask for Louis's secret recipe though, he won't share it, and he shouldn't. You'd be wise to grab some bf the price goes up. We found this Resturant on yelp and decided to give it a try. We really liked it. We found our server to be very attentive. There was a small issue as far as language so we really did not understand most of what was on the menu. We ordered two dishes and they were both great. One surprise is that one dish said the sides would be spinach and asparagus. Those sides did not come with the dish. I received a potato patty that was delicious. Wish I could give lower review. There is no way this restaurant should operate the way they do, horrible experience even worst service. I ordered food from this place and was told 15 minutes, as well as asked if I could pay over phone. I arrived to restaurant about 15 minutes afterwards(3:38 PM), the doors were locked, with no closed signs and time chart reads they are open until 9 PM at night. It is 3 in the afternoon, and why would you make a paying customer wait outside for 35 minutes without picking up the phone calls, or even calling that customer back and informing them that of whatever maybe going on. Really horrible, wish I could get my wasted time back, but I will not be coming back or ordering from this restaurant from here on out. read more
