I had two including the marinated mushrooms, only suggestion on that dish is they should cut them in half so they actually marinate. food is ok, decent selection of products, service is good if there is something you want that they don't have usually they will get it if you request it. ambiance is friendly, and tolerant of different lifestyles. only downside are the prices it is considerably more expensive than surrounding stores. A pint of Ben and Jerry's will cost you around $8.50-$9.00 while just down the street at Stop and Save it's only $5.00. its a family run store, very friendly staff that is trying to survive like the rest of us. they do have a grill and Deli in the back, good sandwiches even better breakfast menu. again a little pricey but but good. read more

It appears that this is a family run business. I went to the back where the deli was. This is similar to you big chain deli departments. I opted for a 2 meat sandwich (roast beef and salami) with cheese, on sourdough (it is San Francisco, so you gotta get sourdough). This was a good size and very filling sandwich. I was pleased. I decided to come back 2 days later for a breakfast sandwich. Again, it hit the spot. Steak & Egg, on an onion bagel. Everything is prepared fresh and everyone in the store was nice. I've been to this Bread & Butter about 3 times this year and each time my total came out to $19. I didn't think anything of it the first time. The second time I bought a sandwich and a drink and that's when my suspicions started to arise (sandwiches are about $10, meaning he charged the drink around $7-$8). However today I went in for the third and final time. I got 3 things: 2 soft drinks and a bag of Quadratinis. He attempted to charge me $19 and I quickly told him to take out the cookies. This brought the total down to $12, for TWO drinks. So I then asked how much these drinks were priced individually and he read me my new total of $4!!! FOR BOTH DRINKS. I voiced my concerns about this incident to my coworkers and they too have been getting $19 charges that seem way too steep for what they were purchasing. It seems that the owners have figured out as long as they keep the charge under $20, customers are less likely to dispute these bogus charges. I know people who live in the area and they too refuse to frequent this 'place of business' and now I know why. I also work in the area and I will absolutely warn all of my guests to steer clear of this corner store which is a shame since our property will be bringing in a lot of business this coming summer and you can bet they will all be directed to California Produce. read more

How it took me over a year of living a few blocks away before I finally wandered in here I have no clue. There are maybe, hmmm lets see, 17 billion convenience stores in the TL? 18 billion? Maybe with them every 50 feet away I'd just never been inclined to check this one out. Good thing I finally did (of course it was like two weeks before I moved). The other stores in area have Doritos, Oreos, and maybe a few bananas. This place has organic chips, Newman's Own cookies, and organic produce. Other stores may have some shady sandwiches that have been plastic wrapped on the counter for I'm betting a few years, this place has a deli in the back where they make fresh pasta salads, falafel, and other goods. It's just an all around better store, and I nearly shot Vitamin Water out of my nose when I found out they were open til like 2am daily. Perfecto. The only downer was on my first oh so magical visit they double charged my card and the pasta salad was lets say "not the best" I'd ever had. Paid 4.99 for a 1 L bottle of water, they overcharge, they type in whatever price they want, the bacon egg sandwich is 7.99 but you have to add cheese for a dollar and they wont tell you that. Sometimes I get crazy ideas in my head and no matter how many times they are proven wrong I just dont stop believing. I think this is because I listened to too much Journey growing up. One of these crazy ideas is that as long as I eat bread and drink water before I party I will not have a hangover. Do not believe the hype. It is just not true. You can eat bread on the way to a party, wash it down with vitamin water and take the 19 bus to an oasis of alcohol, drink shots with your friend on his birthday and still wake up with a huge hangover the same day you are supposed to be preparing for your own party. It can happen even though the bread you ate was a big roll full of all sorts of sandwich fixins from a solid corner store/deli smack dab in the middle of a land of shitty corner stores with one tenth the selection. You can wash it down with your choice of just about any beverage you can think of. You will think you are safe. You are not. I reccomend picking up something to eat after you drink while you are waiting for your sandwich to be made, and possibly some asprin and a beer for the next morning. Bread and Butter has a great selection of all of the above in a clean, well stocked environment. I wish they had something to help me stop believing or keep me from being hungover. **For Realsies! ALMOST DIED** I chooked on those tasty grilled chicken kabobs. They almost killed me. Lodged in my throat, and I had to go to the emergency room. Not really understanding any of the 1-star reviews - its a very well-stocked corner store with a fresh deli bar. Better offering than 95% of San Francisco corner stores!! We like to hit this place up en route to a movie at the nearby AMC 1000, grab a sandwich, some treats, and a six-pack. I've enjoyed every sandwich I've tried there, and they have lots of great snack options including many of the local chips and chocolate options. And the prices are right on-target. My roommate and I took a solemn oath to never ever again frequent this establishment no matter how hungover we were and desperately craving poptarts at 9 in the morning. Seriously, the prices in this place are worse than prices in Nazi-Occupied Holland. Furthermore, there's a 50 cent charge for using plastic that they always "forget" to mention...no matter if you pay more than the minimum. Also, definitely bought a box of poptarts from there...was charged 4.50 and in my still slightly drunken early morning stupor I remember thinking gosh that's expensive...only to find the pricetag on the box that says $3 when I got back to my apt. $1.50 may not seem like a lot to you...but that's a cycle in the dryer for me!
