Best roast beef brisket that I've ever had. Highly recommend the number 5 on am onion roll, sub thousand island for the mayo. Fiance liked his Ruben as well. When they start doing this??? No more dry Jerk cornbeef for me, if I wanted Jerk beef I'd go to the gas station all for $28!! This is the kind of place where you'd meet up with friends to get one of the best sammies around, but might slightly cringe when first going thru the door. Not dirty, just kinda old-n-tired. I had the smallest driest corned beef sandwich that I have ever eaten in my life from here. It was so bad that after three bites I threw it away. Last week I flew into Detroit for my Mom's 75th Birthday. I grew up in a suburb of Detroit and always looked forward to going to Sunday bunch at The Bread Basket Deli with my family. I was so sad to learn how GHETTO this place has become. I remember it thriving and always being busy with lots of delicious foods to choose from. Unfortunately, this place should probably be shut down or bought out. I came in and asked to order 6 bagels thinking it's a Deli and it's called 'BREAD BASKET DELI', the woman who was at the counter barely wanted to speak to me and when I asked for bagels, She said:"Those are for our customers!" WHAT AM I??? She said two times we can't sell you those or we won't have any to give to our customers that come in!!!! I asked if I could get some White Fish salad, she said we never sell that here? REALLY? Because I have ordered it there many times in the past. A man from the back, I assumed he was a Cook, came out and yelled at her in front of me and told her to sell me the bagels. She still disagreed and refused to sell them to me. It just kept on getting worse. She said go to a bagel deli and get that stuff. By the way, the floor was a mess, there was food all over the place. What it lacks in atmosphere it makes up for in sheer corned beef appeal and size of portions. The place looks like it hasn't been redecorated since the '40s and perhaps it hasn't had a good cleaning since then either. But the corned beef and other NY style deli sandwiches are really good. I am just updating this place. Although I said previously I like the other Bread Baskets better, such is not the case anymore. BBD was okay.... I'm not a huge..."pile as much meat between two pieces of bread" kinda girl, I'll usually order a turkey, or chicken number with more veggies on it. Today I went out of the norm and ordered a #18&1/2 - which was roast beef, on rye, with swiss cheese, coleslaw, and russian dressing.. It wasn't bad... It wasn't KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF fabulous... So it's not the same Bread Basket you went to as a kid.....and that sucks, I know. I remember going here when I was 5 years old, and the neighborhood was different, and everything was different too. But times change...shrug. But the place still satisfies, even though the menu is the same, the food is still good. Eating at Bread Basket Deli harkens me back to my childhood when the delicious smell of blintzes, fried latkes, and sumptuous corn beef tickled my nose. Sunday afternoons were spent diving into boxes of delights that I dreamt were like those from the deli's in New York City. There is no such thing as a "plain corn beef sandwhich" here. Order one and you will see meat that's piping hot and stacked higher than your mouth can open wide. It's an unpretentious sandwhich. It doesn't need to blow your mind with sauces and toppings. The flavor of the beef is so devine that it simply melts in your mouth. I recommend getting it on an onion roll. However, if you are looking for a more complex sandwhich, the Ruben is a bet you can't lose. The sauerkraut mingles with melted cheese on top of the beef that provides a pleasant crunch to go with your oh-so-tender meat. It just might move you a little closer to heaven. The blintzes are like beautifully fried pillows of sweet cheese. As you cut into one the cheese spills out and begs you to scoop it up with your sour cream or apple sauce. Truly wonderful. Unfortunately, Bread Basket stopped making the best latkes I've ever had but I have been informed that they may bring them back in the future. If you want to try one of the best deli's this side of the East Coast then the Bread Basket Deli is the place for you. read more

The Bread Basket doesn't look like much from the outside, but it definitely has some great sandwiches. I feel like I'm sort of a sandwich snob, after being spoiled by living within a mile or two of Zingerman's in Ann Arbor. But, the Bread Basket's reuben is great. I ordered the small size and could barely finish it! My boyfriend got the club sandwich and he basically ate it before I could even ask how it was. He said that the turkey reuben with coleslaw is delicious as well. The servers were decently friendly and the food came out really fast. It was pretty warm in there, too, and for some reason it felt slightly dirty. I liked both of the pickles they give you, especially the older style. Went to this deli because a friend recommended it to us. Food was mediocre at best. The place was extremely dated, not to mention extremely dirty actually disgusting from the lobby entrance, through the dining area, kitchen area right to the bathrooms.... Gross, Gross, Gross.
