Pros: Great concept, great salads/zeppelins, moderate price (~$10), healthy Cons: Weekday lines are insane (during lunch). Be prepared to stand 30 mins to place your order I decided to try this place out for lunch as some of my colleagues recommended it. We reached here at around noon and the line was at the door. Ok, thinking it would move fast, I did not fret, but gosh it took a while to get me in front of a person so I could order my food. They have a nice concept. You get a salad either in a bowl or stuffed in bread (as a sandwich or as they call zeppelin). The bowls are marginally more expensive as compared to the sandwich but you get a little more quantity of greens. They have a bunch of options to choose from (pre-selected combinations and dressing recommendations) but you can always add/remove stuff. Additionally, you can also make your own, but that option is not for the novice. I would recommend going with one of the pre-selected options and if you become a regular, you can give the make-your-own option a try. On this occasion I decided to try the Cobb Zeppelin. It took less than a few seconds to place my order and the lady behind the counter to combine all the ingredients in a bowl and move me along. As I waited in the line some more, I saw another person taking out the innards of the bread to make room for the salad (interesting). This was not going to be another traditional sandwich. As I moved along it was my time. The guy behind the counter asked me if I wanted to add/change anything after which he decided to finely chop my salad and other ingredients. He added salt/pepper as per my instructions and dressing exactly as much as I asked (perfect). He then stuffed it inside the bread that had been cleaned of its interiors and lightly toasted. The whole process from ordering to getting my food was less than 5 minutes but the line before that was a PITA. Ok, so I have to say the zeppelin was delicious. The bread was yummy - toasty but not hard, chewy but not dense. I enjoyed every bite. The pre-selected salad ingredients all went well together and since it was finely chopped, the texture was good. Fresh and crunchy salad inside a nice toasted sandwich. The quantity was plentiful for me, and I left with a full stomach (just enough for lunch). They have soups, soda, chips to accompany your salad/zeppelin. All in all, this was a place worth trying. In spite of the line, the food was great. I will go back again, although I will probably time myself better so that I do not experience such a long wait. read more

I ordered the Buffalo chicken salad today because it looked SO good. However, as I was about to dive into my salad, I had a hard time finding the buffalo chicken... Why? Because the chicken isn't even dressed in the sauce! I'm not sure if this is because I ordered my salad for pick up, but the bowl was so disappointing. To top it off, I was only given like 4 chicken bites which is absurd given that I'm paying for a protein. I also felt skimped on my 11-dollar salad because they packaged the buffalo sauce AND the salad dressing inside of the bowl, which takes up more than half of my salad. Excellent salad / "sandwich" spot. The idea of a zeppelin is pretty unique, and while I feel like a zeppelin is really just a fancy sub / sandwich, the bread is delicious and the idea of stuffing it with a salad is pretty awesome. But seriously, their bread is great. And you can request the insides of the bread, even if you're just getting a salad. I've made my own salad a couple of time, and loved the variety of leaves offered as well as the fact that everything then gets chopped up into tiny pieces in front of you. If you get avocado, they give you a whole half. But perhaps I'm not great at making my own salad because upon a couple of returns, I've found myself not always loving the combo of flavors in my salad. I don't love their protein options in general, and for some reason I feel like something is missing with their veggie toppings even though they have plenty. read more

It's been one of my favorite lunch choices however recently the lettuce has been showing signs of being stale or at least oxidized and the bowls used to be heaping full, now they usually have at least an inch of space from the lid. it's not just this location the other locations appear to be having the same issues. read more

I originally ordered about 20 sandwiches for a meeting at my job and forgot to order salads from the Las Colinas location, which stays very busy during lunch hour, and I called asking if they could make a "Build-Your-Own Salad Bar" for 20 people and I could come pick it up within the hour - knowing the answer was probably a no. Love bread zeppelin and I feel bad for leaving a bad review but the staff was SO horrible. The most immature staff Ive ran into in a long time. They were so unprofessional and slow. The side convos they were having were not conversations you have in front of customers. Not to mention the girl with black and red braids made my sandwhich and grabbed the toppings right after running her hands through her braids and tucking it behind her ears. Super gross. Was a little bit skeptical, but totally loved this idea. Fresh chopped salad in a hollowed out sub. Very different, but very good. I tried the Tejano Caesar, the way it comes: Cotija Cheese, Jalapenos, Tortilla Chips, Romaine, Jalapenos and I ordered steak. Updated my review from a 1 star in 2017 to a 0 star (if I could) at the end of 2019. When I worked near this location when it first opened it was great and the ingredients were fresh and the employees were actually nice. But as the years have gone by, the quality of the ingredients and the attitude/work ethic of the employees has been consistently getting worse. Today I was greeted by a condescending employee that had an attitude and gave me a look instantly. The romain lettuce that was in the bowl was white as if it was just the end pieces and not a single piece of green. Then I asked if he was going to cut up the ingredients with the mezzaluna, (the tool they use to chop up everything to stuff it in the bread) he told me in a rude tone, that they no longer do that. I then asked why the knife was even sitting out? I told him I came there last month and they chopped up everything for every customer that walked by. He then told me, "well we dont". This will be a simple review: order online and get it to-go. Don't dine-in. The place is miserably loud and bustling with all types of chopping, banging, people yelling, super loud music. It was freezing and there was an uncomfortable draft. The food is pretty good. My salad was good and fresh and my wife's sandwich was very good. Unfortunately, the miserable dining atmosphere ruined the experience for me so I don't have much else to say. When I walked in they seemed to not expect pick-up orders because they basically ignored me and only paid attention to the long line. I finally had to shout over the music to get someone to look at me and my order was sitting right there. OMG, I have found heaven in a loaf of crunchy wonderful bread. I love the concept of stuffing a salad inside a loaf of hollowed out bread. I don't know who is supplying their "Zeppelins" but they are awesome. My wife ordered the Classic Metro Cobb and I ordered the Lone Star with steak and blue cheese. You can also customize your zeppelin or have your salad delivered in a bowl, it's your choice. We can't wait to come back again real soon so we can try some of the other salads. read more

Great salad place you can make basically whatever combo you want or they take your salad and stuff it inside a loaf of French bread that's been hollowed out. Besides the salad the portions are kind of small so if you like a lot of cheese or something you'll need to say extra please, and of course for a cost. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is they use these plastic bowls for everyone and unfortunately if your dining in, your given a plastic bowl that you throw away, so huge waste of the earth resources, and all we need is more unnecessary plastic in our landfills. My first time at the famous Bread Zeppelin and it did not disappoint! Ordered the Southwest with chicken and chipotle ranch and subbed the cheese for apples. So good! My only complaint is that it wasn't quite enough to fill me up. I was still hungry after and for spending $20 for 2 (one for me and another for my partner) it's kinda expensive for what you get. I will probably try a bowl next time which doesn't have the bread but has more salad, however it is a few dollars more. Okay, maybe I just don't get it. I picked a salad and the guy had to read off the menu behind him to figure out what was in it (whaa?). Then he hands the salad to another employee who dumps it out and chops the tar out of it with a pizza cutter. Then it goes back into a bowl for the dressing to be added and then back into the original container. I could replace all this with a robot and it would be faster. I took the final product to the register where I stood by myself waiting to pay. I've been here many times over the past few years and have always been pleased with the food quality and service. Today I was there around 2pm and ordered an Atlantis. I noticed the guy stuffing the breads wasn't in the greatest of moods and his body-language showed it. When I sat down to eat, I noticed there was an extreme amount of flour all over the bread. They mentioned all their bread is like that. I've never eaten a bread that had so much flour caked onto the bread. I asked for another bread and the next bread they were giving me also had flour on it (albeit less than before, but still enough to not look pleasing or edible). I asked them if they could dust it off and that's when I noticed attitude from the guy stuffing the bread. He was being aggressive with the bread and stuffing it. I almost asked for a refund, but whatever... likely he was having a bad day so I let it go. Here's what I would've preferred: we're so sorry the bread was not to your liking, please let us take care of it for you. (Dust off the flour). Ask: Does this look okay? Great, sorry for the trouble and thanks for dining with us. I sat back down and dusted off the flour myself. Looks like the Zeppelin has burned down. Both the customer service and food quality needs improvement. There are a plethora of businesses in the area and I'll be going elsewhere for my sandwich fix. I really like the concept of the zeppelin where with the hollowed out bread, you get all the best parts of a sandwich in your last bite. I also like that they don't waste the bread and use it for croutons/bread pudding. However, I think it's a bit pricy for what you end up getting and twice now, my husband and I have been hungry after each having a full zeppelin at dinner. We've tried the nola, cobb, and lone star and I can't say I'm inspired enough to go back for a third time to try more of their menu items. Flavors fell a bit flat although nothing was bad - just not magic. The portion of meat in each sandwich was also light. I REALLY liked this place. I knew it had to be good when I arrived close to 1:00 pm and all the tables were full and the line was wrapped back almost to the door. It seemed to be moving pretty good and a crowd like that is usually a good sign so I stayed and tried them out...and I was sure glad that I did! They have a pretty creative array of "Ours" menu suggestions, such as the NOLA, The Kale-fornia, Washington State, Atlantis, Southwest, Metropolitan Cobb, Lone Star, Shanghai, Pacific Beach, Plymouth Rock, Tejano Caesar, or the Classic Caesar, or you can make it "Yours" by selecting your own ingredients. Once you choose your selection, they make it into a salad or into a Bread Zeppelin and stuff the sandwich with the chopped ingredients that you have chosen. The bread is amazing, both times we ordered the Zeppelin vs salad from their smartly pair menu choices vs build your own ingredients. Try the turkey, cranberry, pecans with white balsamic dressing... Excellent. Love the fact that after making / chopping each salad, they use a new cutting board / sheet... Nice touch. I found this place via Yelp search when looking for something healthy (or that could be made healthy with the right choices) in the Irving area. It's a really cool concept that I hope catches on. The first decision you make is whether you want your salad in a bowl, or in a "zeppelin", the latter being a single diner-sized artisan baguette (sourced from a local bakery). The loaf is cut at one end and "hollowed out", making a structurally sound container for your salad. Genius! The crunch with way fewer carbs and calories. The bowl option (which I chose) nets you a 48 oz (!) bowl made of recyclable plastic that's shaped a little tall for good access to your salad. Next up, it's deciding on either a recipe from a list that BZ has designed, or make your own. I chose the Atlantis, but I wanted to make some changes. They're fine with this, so don't be afraid to ask. I wanted the Arcadian mix of greens instead of romaine, roasted red peppers instead of cucumbers and bell pepper mix instead of tomatoes. At this point, they place the ingredients into the bowl and pass it down to the chopping blocks. On my way, I asked the person who was the designated "bread hollower" if I could try one of the ends that they cut off (note: neither these ends nor the bread in the middle go to waste; they're used to make croutons right there in the store) since I was getting a bowl. She happily wrapped three of them in a bit of butcher paper and handed them over, free of charge. A very nice touch! At the chopping area, the salad is dumped onto a chopping block and attacked with a mezzaluna knife to get it into nice bite sized bits (including the chicken, which was a whole breast at the time of ordering). You can ask for less or more chopping if you want a different texture. It's then scooped into a metal bowl for dressing (which, as others have noted, can be tricky because they tell you to "say when", and it's hard to judge and difficult to communicate, more on that later). Finally, it's back into the plastic bowl and handed over for payment. My salad was delicious! The chop was just about right, and the dressing added flavor without turning it into salad soup. The greens were fresh and crisp, as were the other ingredients, and the chicken was moist and tender. My fellow diner and I were eager to try the bread, and it is really delicious. If we both weren't watching our carbs, we'd probably try a zeppelin. Now, the only bad news, and I'm afraid it may be the difference between four stars and five: I cannot stress enough how UNBELIEVABLY LOUD it is in this place. Understanding that we were here during the height of the lunch rush with a line out the door, so probably a worst case scenario, but wow. The space is long and skinny (can't really do much about that, I understand), and the walls are either covered with ceramic tile (behind the counter) or metal sheets for an industrial look which, visually, really works; the place looks great. But, seriously, it was absolutely deafening; no chance to carry on a reasonable conversation, and it definitely didn't make for a good environment to eat an otherwise great meal. If you're sensitive to noise, consider take out or eating outside if weather permits; there are a couple of tables in front. I expected the employees to be frustrated at my showing up right before close but was pleasantly surprised . Before I rave about the food I have to compliment the staff . They were really patient and and excited to help me out with my first Zeppelin experience . They offered recommendations and were helpful in answering all of my questions . You could tell they themselves love the food and are excited to serve it to you . So a Zeppelin - toasted bread with the inside completely carved out and stuffed with an awesome salad ! Who woulda thought ?! I ordered the southwest Zeppelin with chicken and a cup of broccoli soup . Can I just say that I'm tired of paying for overpriced salads , this place was definitely fair in their pricing . I got to add extra things to my Zeppelin and wasn't charged for each item . I love trying out new places! Now we came after Dustin D. picked me up from work, so we probably got here around 6. It wasn't busy, but I can see how it would be packed for lunch. The place is clean and the guys behind the counter were informative and friendly. We actually met both owners, and they were both great. I love how they have a lot of different options from different greens to toppings to dressings! I got a Metropolitan Club. Now I'm not sure about the salads (they do look leafy), but this sandwich was the PERFECT amount of everything. I could definitely see myself getting this every time I come. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Of course it has blue cheese, so if you don't like that, I might stay away from it. But I got it with avocado ranch It was perfection for me though. Dustin D. was hesitant about this place only because if he's eating a sandwich, he doesn't want it to taste like a salad. Not the case here, you're definitely eating a sandwich, only the innards are mixed together. They toss most of the ingredients into a bowl, and send a baguette through the toaster. On the other side, they dice up your meat and then your salad. This part is a bit time consuming. (Not SUPER time consuming, but I can see how it would slow down lunch.) It also seems like the workers are still getting used to the mezzaluna knife. Not sure how it would affect it, but it might be easier to chop or slice the meat as prep option, since it's sliced up separate from the salad anyways. Now that everything is mixed up, they drizzle the a little dressing and toss it. A heel side of the bread is snipped off, and they use tongs to efficiently hollow out the bread. Now I know my sandwich isn't for everyone, but it is the perfect blend of flavors and textures, and couldn't be more perfect for me. I also got the chicken and wild rice soup. I can't tell if it's made fresh or not. It has a strong flavor, but a little on the salty side. (Might be less salty during lunch!) Oh, and they have Zappos chips and cherry coke as a drink choice. So I am not entirely sure this is the restaurant's fault but it goes to the whole experience. I have been there twice and both times parking was a zoo. Not sure if there are too many restaurants in the shopping center or not enough parking but it is really crowded at lunch time. Then Bread Zepplin is a victim of their own success because it was so crowded that there weren't any seats so we had to sit outside on an uncomfortably cold day. So I will give it a while to die down and will go back because for me the food is above average, but not so far above average in order to sit outside in the cold to eat it. read more

It's definitely great. Personally I know many others who liked it too. They are a hit and usually are busy. I tried their zeppelin and liked them. I keep going back for it. 2 reasons they don't get a 5 star is because the zeppelin size varies a lot. Sometimes it's tiny. Secondly they got a C in health inspection ratings. read more
