A graceful 3. I stopped by this place with my daughter for the first time on a random weekday. Before I begin, let me just say this: first impressions really are everything. When we walked in, no one greeted us or explained how the ordering process worked. We took our time looking over the menu and were pretty much left to figure things out on our own. To be fair, one employee was checking out customers and another appeared to be preparing food, so I can give a little grace there. After about 3-5 minutes, someone came from the back and politely asked how he could help. I mentioned that it was our first visit, and he instructed us to order our sandwiches with him. After taking our order, he immediately started preparing the sandwiches. Unfortunately, no directions were given about what to do next. We moved over to what appeared to be the sandwich topping station, where another employee was working. He never acknowledged us, and by that point, both the cashier and sandwich prep employee had disappeared to the back. We grabbed a bag of chips and headed toward the register, assuming maybe toppings weren't part of the process. When the cashier eventually returned, she looked at us as if she was wondering why we were standing there. I explained that it was our first time and that we hadn't received any instructions. She quickly apologized and gave us a rundown of how everything worked. As it turned out, our sandwiches were simply waiting to be dressed with toppings. While she was helping us, the employee who had been standing at the topping station the entire time walked off carrying completed sandwiches. I'm assuming he was handling to-go or catering orders, but his lack of acknowledgment made the experience feel a little cold and unwelcoming. Once we got through the ordering process, things improved. The young lady finished our sandwiches, checked us out, and we decided to dine in since the wind outside changed our plans to enjoy the patio. The décor was interesting, with lots of unique things to look at and talk about. We also loved the family feel of the space and the large windows that filled the restaurant with beautiful natural light. The sandwiches did the job and filled us up for lunch. The taste was decent, but I feel like I could have made better choices had I understood the ordering process from the beginning. This feels like a place that's very comfortable for regulars but not necessarily geared toward first-time visitors. Would I return? Exactly what I was looking for. One day visit to DFW for business and wanted a quick, reliable lunch. I was thinking BBQ until I saw Potbelly. BBQ seemed too heavy and couldn't figure out a decent one close to my business. Potbelly makes good sandwiches. You'll know exactly what you're getting every time you go. I went with the Cubano (which I cannot say no to on any menu), it was delicious. Had it exactly how menu said in white bread. When I walked in, the employee (lady with dark hair) at the counter didn't greet me or say anything while I grabbed my order, and there was no acknowledgment or "thank you" as I left. I see why the restaurant was EMPTY...not one person there! 1. Sandwiches taste just okay. Subways tastes better and has more toppings to be honest. 2. The main entrances are not obvious to the first time, non-local customer like me. It would be great to put some welcome/obvious signs on the entrances. 3. The menu is posted beside the order line, customers have to look to the left and turn back to right to talk to the staff while ordering items. It would be more practical to post another menu behind the staff so that customer can look at it while communicating and facing to the staff. 4. 1/17/19 @ 5pm: This location is not up to par like the two Uptown Dallas locations. I ordered an "Underground" sandwich on the app plus a roast beef sandwich and Zapp's chips. All tables were dirty. No clean spots to sit even though the restaurant was empty. This was my friend's first experience to a Potbelly and she liked her roast beef but my sandwich didn't taste as good as other locations. It has a good location with outdoor seating but it is simply not clean and appetizing. The background music was too loud. The free WiFi needs to be reset. WiFi here doesn't actually push any data through so it's worthless. read more

The first time we telephoned our order in for a specific time, when we arrived we still had to wait 20 minutes. This time our food was hot and ready with a little apology gift included! I was so excited a way back when Potbelly's moved to Dallas. I was introduced first in Chicago by brother and we got Wrecked. The ones in Dallas have a very similar feel (guess that's the definition of franchising). This one in Irving is close to work and they handle their crowds with ease. It's fast and easy the the sandwiches are great. I got a chuckle and corrected when I ordered the new sandwich as "Chubby" instead of "Clubby". Theater of the Mind fadeaway "I'll have a Chubby." "You sure will sweetcakes" Cue the porn music. Last time I tried to order online to pick it up fast. But I apparently only ordered chips for $1.08 and had to wait in line. I have become fairly obsessed with Potbelly, I must admit. This is my favorite workday lunch spot in Irving. They get pretty crowded at lunchtime, but they really know how to make that line move. I love when they have live music at lunchtime, but they haven't been doing that lately, and it makes me sad. My go-to is the Mediterranean Chicken (skinny style, please). It consists of chicken breast, hummus, red peppers, and feta- and supposedly cucumbers, but I don't get the cucumbers because cucumbers are gross (fact). I daydream about this sandwich a lot. There have definitely been days on which I have packed a lunch for work, and sometime mid-morning the Mediterranean Chicken starts calling my name...sorry, Lean Cuisine, you lose. The Skinny Mushroom melt is also in the rotation, when I feel like mixing it up. Which isn't often. I had an Oreo milkshake here once. It was fabulous. I love that they have Pop Chips, but I do wish they would carry some other flavors besides BBQ. And I wish they would stop carrying Zapps because Zapps are delicious and I don't like having to look at the lustfully while I crunch on my Styrofoam BBQ Pop Discs. My only other Potbelly gripe is that it gets to be a little pricey since they don't really offer any kind of a combo. I mean, they do have a "skinny pair" thing where you can get soup and a sandwich for $6.60, but A) my Mediterranean Chicken is not on that menu, and B) it doesn't include a drink. My standard order (Med Chick, chips, drink) is right at $10. That's pretty high for a weekday sandwich shop lunch. But I love it, so I will continue to fork it over. Also, there is this one cashier who works here and he is freaking adorable but I think he's probably about 20 and I am not old enough to resign myself to being a cougar just yet. So, much like the Zapps, I will continue to admire him from afar. read more
