Driving south down Chuckanut on a rainy morning is one of my favorite things, only made better by fresh bread from Breadfarm in Bow! They have their store set up for Covid-safe ordering with a covered window on the side for outdoor ordering and a pick up spot out front. We got the Parisian baguette and their special kalamata olive ciabatta bread both of which were amazing but gobbled up by the family before we had time to get pictures. Both loaves had a perfectly crunchy outer crust with a fluffy inside and the ciabatta had a generous amount of whole olives stuffed inside. Pre-gamed a day in the Skagit valley with Breadfarm. We ordered from their window (no inside area or seating available) and were luck there was no line. We got three items - blueberry danish, almond bostock, spinach & tomato breakfast tart. All were good but the almond bostock was the standout. We also brought home a loaf of their olive bread, which was pretty good. Prices were really high - the cookies were over $1 each for a tiny little guy. Unfortunately we had to / chose to eat out back by the dumpsters and canal, but pickings were slim. read more

The only way to improve on the absolute perfection of Breadfarm's amazing pastries and breads, so precisely up the street of people who love quality, real food and a refreshing break from the usual bakery onslaught of white sugar and cheap ingredients... would be if they opened a cafe where you could nestle in cozy bliss to enjoy their wares - but that would be a whole different business to layer on to what already, for me, as I've said, is perfection. Edison has many other alluring delights to offer, from the scenery to shops & galleries selling all kinds of cool stuff, but the trek out there is 100% worth it for a Breadfarm run (especially since you can't get their bread at the Skagit Co-op anymore. I have found my new lazy morning pastry Mecca. I've tried just about everything on the menu and it's delicious. Nice variety of pastries, cookies and bread. I see a lot of negative reviews from a few years ago regarding not taking credit cards and rude customer service - That does not reflect current practices. They have a convenient online ordering system and we're extremely pleasant to work with! There were folks visiting from Seattle when I went and they were treated with the same respect and kindness. We caught up with them at the Saturday farmer's market in Anacortes. Really nice lady running the booth. Got a sliced loaf of their whole wheat bread. 10:30 a.m. and we snagged their last loaf. Huge! $10.25 but well worth it. One of the best loaves of bread ever. We have it every night to make avocado toast. read more

Breadfarm has become a frequent stop when driving through the area. Often I'm taking a scenic route on the way to Schuh Farms and until recently haven't had the nerve to try them out. So far, every item has been good. Sliced loaves, palmiers, cookies in many varieties. All well prepared and fresh. Prices are a bit high, but this is to be expected considering the artisanal approach to their offerings. I will say that the stone ground loaf was huge. I didn't end up finishing all of it, but was satisfied with the flavor and texture of their bread. Expect a more prevalent flavor compared to standard store bought sliced bread. It can be enjoyed simply toasted in its own. (But even better slathered in garlic butter...) Favorite item: chocolate cookie sandwiches read more

My evening ritual of toast and peanut butter would not be complete with Breadfarm's Stoneground bread. My son and I have been enjoying that bed time snack for years. I just love the white bread for sandwiches as well, it's firm enough so it doesn't smash in my backpack, and it's so flavorful. We get our Breadfarm bread from the Skagit Valley Food Co-Op, and sometime when I am out in Edison I am going to stop in (After COVID) and tell the crew how many loaves of their bread we have had over the years....let's see a loaf a week times six or seven years, that's a lot of outstanding bread. Total tourist trap and way overated and over-hyped. Downgrading again because their pricing structure has become absolutely ridiculous, unreasonable, and greedy. It's an annoying shopping experience at a small impersonal outside window off the alley, even now, long after COVID peak times. Their inventory is usually poor too. Breads at $18, $11, $10.50, $10.25 a loaf at their low budget little stand in a small town. It's outrageous. The bread is just not worth it. The parking is tough too. Save your money and a lot of unnecessary overpriced carbs, and you may just be a lot better off. Actually almost everything they sell seems overpriced including their $12 cookies that are sometimes stale. Even $5 for a plain croissant shows how high their prices are. Vote with your $ and go somewhere else to teach them a lesson read more

We got croissants, pan chocolate and a baguette. Total price $22.56. This bakery is an amazing find. The croissants were $4 each, but three times better-tasting and flakier than mass produced croissants. In fact, they are comparable to French croissants we bought at actual French bakeries in France. We live in the city of Seattle, and wish it was easier to get such tasty baked goods close to home. Ordering by phone was super easy and pickup was even easier. What's not to like about the Bread Farm? It's one of those places you *must* stop when driving the backroads of Skagit County...if for no other reason than to grab one of their dreamy coconut macaroons with it's crunchy outer shell and creamy tropical inside goodness. Or perhaps you're in the mood for their delicious take on an "oreo" - two thin discs of chocolatey amazingness with a soft white filling. Not to mention they have tons of bread (from basic baguettes to wild flavors like sour cherry sourdough) to choose from. Grab your bread here, some Salumi and wine at Slough Food next door, and walk out onto the shores of the slough, plunk your butt down in an adirondack chair and enjoy a truly Pacific Northwest experience. Another great thing about this place is they are open on Mondays (when most of the rest of the little town is closed down). Their prices are a little high, but then again where are you going to find this amazing quality of baked goodies anywhere nearby? read more

This is a collective review for the several trips made going to/from Vancouver BC or just meandering around Skagit County. Open daily 9am to 7pm. Remember to bring cash or local checks only, no cards. Baked goods and artisan breads are top notch! They have outlived the Farm to Market bakeshop that used to be down the street. My favorites are their various cookies and hearty loaves (especially the potato bread and the miche) which they will kindly slice upon request. BTW - when wrapped thoroughly, the bread loaves freeze nicely. So buy more than one loaf, okay? Totally worth it! When in the Bow-Edison-Burlington area, get some berries from Burlington, cheese from Bow, tasty accompaniment goodness from Slough Food, amazing baked goods and artisan breads from Breadfarm in Edison. read more

LIttle bread shop in adorable Edison with some great eats. Lots of beautiful and savory breads to be had here, including a olive bread that will beckon and several crusty baguettes that would pair well with local cheeses at Samish Bay Cheese, but its those desserts that really shine. My favorite was the coconut macaroon with its crisped edges and moist center, the vanilla shortbread, made even better with Breadfarm homemade raspberry jam, or the chocolate thumbprint. We had our first sampling of Breadfarm breads at the Mount Vernon farmer's market a few years back (great local market, if you are in the area!) and they also frequent the Bellingham and Anacortes Farmers Market. For us, it was absolutely worth a drive to Edison, a quirky, artsy, tiny town, to taste more of their wares. Put this on your list for your Skagit adventures. read more

We enjoyed the trip to Edison from Bellingham using Chuckanut Drive. The views along the way were spectacular. Edison, often attributed to Bow, Washington for some odd reason, is an unspoiled, charming village with galleries, shops, bars, and food emporiums. There isn't much yet, which adds to Edison's charm. One of the focal points is the Breadfarm, an excellent bakery with a national reputation. During Covid, there is a limited selection, but everything tasted delicious. Of course we went "overboard," purchasing a baguette, seven grain bread, Kugen, and cookies. They were all good. Fantastic? It's as good as what we munch on in Seattle, but nothing can top the boulangeries in Paris. We be spoiled. However, the Breadfarm was a fun excursion. read more

Funky bakery in a 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' village brings in baked goods aficionados from all points of the compass. THE ROSES: Charming, rustic interior. Pleasant and helpful staff. Nice selection of artisan breads and pastries. Their products are well-made and delicious. THE THORNS: Limited street parking. Products are a titch spendy. THE VERDICT: Great little bakery is well worth taking a trip off the beaten track to find. Strong recommend. read more

Extremely rude and condescending customer service. For a tiny local bakery with a "Hug a baker" sign in the window, very surprisingly poor attitude. We thought maybe a person had a bad day... Stopped here on our way to Chuckanut Drive for my Uncle's 90th birthday party. My 88 year old father and Nancy were craving an egg danish big time. They made a detour just to stop here. But alas, no more egg danishes here, unfortunately they are sold out at 10:00 Am. The representative suggested they order through social media next time, to reserve their orders. However, at their age, they do not understand social media, only first come, first served. One star off, for hearing complaints all the way to Bellingham for lack of egg danish. However, we substituted a bran muffin. Incredible bran muffin, with crust special spices and level of sweetness. But the lack of egg danish was throughly bemoaned. Loved their high quality baked goods. If only they could have gotten an egg danish and saved me from non stop kvetching I would have given an additional star. read more

While passing through town, I stopped to get some fresh bread. I loaded up while I was here, figuring that I could just freeze some of it. The sliced wheat loaf we bought was huge and delicious and the dinner rolls (which we froze for the following week) defrosted on the counter and heated up beautifully in the toaster over. I will definitely be back next time I'm nearby! Suggestion: It would be really cool if this establishment sold drip coffee. They redirected me to the coffee place just a few doors down but I had to wait in a very long line and when I got to outdoor counter the owner informed me that they only have espresso! It was cool that they tried to support the business next door, but since drip coffee is something that business doesn't offer I don't think they'd be taking anything away from them. read more
