    The loot

Another labor day weekend adventure, highlighting our love for fresh baked goods. We went in for a simply breakfast snack and ended up leaving with extra loot.

Dude. Get out of my way if you see me coming! What a great little stop out in the Skagit farmland! Just stopped for a sweet treat as we drove though and I can tell you that the sticky bun probably put 2 pecan farms out of business!! Still warm from the oven - not reheated! And the lemon bar? AMAZING. Great lunch items coming out while we waited to order - beautiful sandwiches on baked rolls, peanut soup, etc. Thank god the smells were free! Tons of parking and some seating in and out.

A very tasty and scrumptious bit of Skagit Magic. I don't how they make the cookies so good, and the cinnamon rolls and especially the pecan nut buns are super stellar!

Small bakery on the junction of farm to market road. It's a tiny hole in the wall bakery that has freshly made pastries. My friend for the apple cider which wasn't actually freshly made, but it tasted like apple pie. Pecan bar and lemon bar were both were good and tasted better when refrigerated. The lemon had the perfect amount of tartness. Pecan bar not too nutty or sweet. The worker was kind enough to cut the bar into 4 pieces which made it easier to eat. Finally, the scone for that day was blueberry and it was moist and chewy but slightly dry. I liked it though. There's a nice salt flavor as well the pairs with the sweetness of the scone. They also have coffee and some sandwiches available, but we just stopped for the pastries.

Loved the textures and the flavors of the baked goods here! Everything you try will be a treat to the palate. Black coffee paired well with the Lime-Soaked Polenta Cake. Great place for anyone who "happens to be driving by" or anyone with an adventurous spirit and a deep appreciation for textures and flavors.

Stopped here at this cute little bakery on our way to Bellingham. They had great parking, a restroom, and plenty of options to choose from. Workers were nice and friendly! I got a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie!

    Wait! Don't drive by!

They had us at the "Bakery's Open!" sign. And, this is a bakery you don't want to miss. The young woman behind the counter was delightful--and helped us select a bag of goodies sourced with local ingredients. Oh, those Pecan bars...

Tasty bakery. Friendly service. Limited hours. I wish I'd tried one of their breakfast sandwiches. Next time.

We sat in the bar because that is where we prefer to set. The staff was very attentive but not overbearing. The food is always delicious and full of flavor. My only complaint, or maybe more of a suggestion is the marinara that comes with the stromboli is served cold. This is not really a complaint, it just seems to me that it would taste much better if it was warm when you're dipping a warm piece of Stromboli into it. If you go there and try it, let me know what you think. We have been here several times and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time, it would be a great place for a family meal, a date night, or just somewhere to stop and have a beer or one of their amazing cocktails or mocktails that they have in their menu. We will definitely be again.

When someone finally came out of the Kitchen we were asked if we had reservations, the place had one table with customers otherwise no other patrons non of the tables had reserved signs and nobody came in while we were there. I find that pretentious. We said no..... she didn't respond in any way other than to grab 4 menus and walk us to our table. She walked into the kitchen which was directly across from our table and said in an irritated voice, "we have a 4 top walk in." We sit quite a while longer before anyone emerges. Finally the lady that seated us arrives to take our order. No sorry for the wait or any kind of acknowledgment just "Are you ready to order?" We ordered, it came out, was exactly what I thought it would be (my sister had heard it was fabulous and had her heart set on trying it is the only reason we stayed). Food that is trying to hard and fails. The only food we found worth the price was the cheesecake which was very creamy and out of this world. We will not be back.... The interior is clean and there are some divider screen type features between some of the tables.

Being treated to Chuckanut Manor is starting to be a tradition for me. This is my second time to…read morethis wonderful place. The first was my birthday last year, chosen by a friend (I'd never heard of it). This year I was asked where I wanted to go. I did not hesitate to say here! I couldn't be anything other than delighted in my decision--from the pleasantness inside, the wonderful view from our window, the delightful staff and the incredible food and drinks, this place is wonderful. Lucky me that my birthday was on a Wednesday so I could be totally influenced to have oysters-on-the-half shell due to a generous Wednesday night special. I do love raw oysters--and these were so tiny and briny and so incredibly good, I could have eaten five dozen! (I am kicking myself for not finding out what kind they were, but no matter. I would be happy with any they are serving here, I am sure.) I had already planned on having the Oysters Rockefeller (known here as Manor Rockefeller), and so, despite having just downed some oysters, I went ahead anyway and am glad I did! They were wonderful. And there was no real reason for me to pause for a moment in my decision, having already had oysters, because these were soooooo different. It was almost like eating a delicious oyster casserole in a shell. The Mediterranean Mussels were wonderful! (Notice, I was having a dinner of appetizers...) The broth they came in was beautiful (and drinkable, if one were so inclined). I loved the surprising tastiness of the Mama Lil's Peppers swimming around in it. At first I wondered if they would be too hot and compete with the flavor--overwhelming it--but no! Not at all. They were a perfect and flavorful touch. Absolutely wonderful. (And having said that, I know that "pepper heat" is an individual thing--I can tolerate a goodly amount, fyi--I just didn't taste these as hot at all.) Our server, Drew, was immensely helpful (and always charming!) He paired our food with a delicious wine. I guess we would assign my bowl of clam chowder to the dessert category--very thick and creamy--along with a lovely after-dinner cocktail, made by the wonderful and delightful bartender, Sherry. She made me a lovely mocktail to start--I asked Drew to have the bartender just make something up on a whim. It was pretty, colorful and delish with what in it, I have no idea. But, not only was it delectable, it was a vision! All festive and fuchsia, with a "bartender's cherry," and a hot pink umbrella. When I learned Sherry made it, I was so happy because I remembered her from last year--very skilled and very fun to chat with. A wonderful birthday--I highly recommend the Manor.

The food we tried today tasted good and hit the spot!…read more I ordered the Alaskan Halibut Fish & Chips that came with a side of toasted cumin coleslaw. It was delicious, but for the smaller portions of fish, I felt it was a bit overpriced compared to other fish and chips I've had for cheaper and with larger portions of fish. My friend ordered the Ground Chuck Cheeseburger with Bacon and Fries. It was juicy and a filling choice. The main draw of this restaurant is definitely the amazing views that almost everyone reviewing this restaurant mentions. Plus, the fact that there really aren't a lot of restaurants to choose from in this area. I think the next time I dine here I would try to time it during their Happy Hour or Brunch, which they claim is "the best".
