While the pizza dough is phenomenal and their bread work meets my expectations, their specialty items need work. I was sold a babka for $15 and while it visually looked questionable from the outside I wanted to give it a try as it could be good on the inside. I even asked the girl at the counter if it was good and she said she loved the 'gooey chocolate filling'. I cut into it and it's not a babka in the sense I know it to be. I've made babka before and this is not it. I also tried their brioche and it's also sub par. Stick to the basic breads here and you can't go wrong. read more

Wow, I wish I had discovered Breadsmith sooner! Fresh bread and bakery items with clean ingredients! Great customer service, I love that they let me look at the ingredient list of the breads! I got a free chocolate chip cookie since it was my first visit and it was huge! If you sign up online you get points for your purchases. I purchased a sourdough and French peasant loaf and they are both delicious! It's some of the best bread my partner and I have ever had! They recommended freezing a loaf if it wasn't going to be consumed in a few days. Since the bread is fresh and doesn't contain preservatives, it doesn't last long at room temperature. We go here every week for a fresh loaf of sourdough and usually some sort of specialty flavor of the week. It feels slightly overpriced, but worth it for our family to not have all the additives of purchasing bread from the grocery store. Employee's are always sweet and friendly! They also have a great deal if you sign up for their app as a first time customer. When I did it, I got a $10 credit to apply to my first purchase. read more

Just went to Breadsmith in Oro Valley for the first time in a while and I'm so glad I did! Came out with more than I planned on buying because there were so many delicious offerings. All the great bread I was used to, but so many new bakery options: cookies, bagels, scones, cinnamon rolls, croissants (almond croissant is incredible) brownies and an irresistible turtle bar. Also delicious sounding coffee/drink selection. I met the new owner that took over last November and she is so sweet, and her adorable employee (son ) Matthew. I'll be back soon! read more

Stopped in here on a visit to area and picked up some scones for eating while traveling. The selection of baked goods from bread to cakes and cookies was great. Very pleasant staff. Did not see much in the way of seating inside, but there were a few tables outside. Not being from the area, I don't know how locals interact here. What a great place. We went right around the change of the newest owner, Mari, taking over Breadsmith. She offered us samples of bread, which is something I don't ever have happen where I'm from. I kind of flew to the moon when she started giving us items to munch on. The focaccia was amazing! My sister in-law brought us here, so she could purchase their pre-made pizza dough. I ordered some items for myself, a chocolate scone, a pretzel roll for my husband, and a cookie. The minus one star is for the ginger cookie, it was insanely hard. We were kind of scared of breaking our teeth. Not sure if this was a one time thing? That was our only issue, everything else was amazing. read more

Our first time here, my husband loves all kinds of bread. As we walked in theres this big display of different preserves, marmalades,etc. The person who helped us is very friendly and informative. It's a very simple and small bakery. I didn't see any table or sitting area. And the place although small is well kept. Really clean. I've been here twice and purchased the Rye sliced bread and twice the crust is extremely hard, which takes away from the experience of a good loaf of bread. It's probably a personal choice or like/dislike of certain items, just a personal taste. The staff was friendly, the store was clean and the shelf's were stocked of many baked goods. read more

Good yummers here. Homemade breads, local honey and jams. Looks so inviting (even though I have x-ed white flour from my diet). We ended up with 2 scones ($7) and a sourdough bread ($7). Wow. I almost got a pack of biscottis for a friend $7 for 3 and decided to try chosen my goodies first before getting more. The scones were good at first. But then my partner remarked the flavor reminded her of bisquick. I thought it might be their own mix, just heavy on the baking soda. Then we tried the sourdough bread. I hate to report, but both of us ended up with upset guts. No kidding. Unsure as to why? Gluten? On a sourdough I've heard that the starter makes the release of glucose slower. Whatever the reasons, it was a good exploration of a bakery I hadn't seen, but for me and mine, for some reason it just didn't jive. read more

I was craving for sour dough bread last Saturday and sent my husband to Breadsmith for that. He came home with 3 small sour dough buns and a piece of chocolate pastry. The texture of the sour dough buns were too dense for my taste, I much prefer the artisan type that I was craving for with a crispy crust and light and chewy bread inside. This wasn't it. Next, the chocolate pastry was just ok and standard. Not something we would go back for. All in all, I was very disappointed with their sour dough buns and I ended getting the artisan sour dough bread from Sprouts and later Albertson's, both tasted so much better for a much lower price. read more

Love their Apple pie bread here. My boyfriend's mom gets their Russian rye and sourdough. The staff is friendly and they have a large assortment of jams. Met a woman here who said she liked their peach amaretto so I picked up a jar last week and will try it with vanilla ice cream or on fresh bread, as directed on the jar. Great gem! read more

Wonderful breads and all from scratch. First saw them at farmers markets and so glad to see that they have a brick and mortar in oro valley! This is a great location and after eating so many baked goods, you can run your pants over to my favorite alterations spot (Rebecca's) to be let out! haha The sourdough loaves are great as they can be sliced in store for sandwiches and paninis. Also really like their specialty loaf that's cheddar jalapeno. The pizza dough is also easy to wip up into a nice meal. I use it mainly for pizza but they give you a little card to help make calzones/bread sticks and other items. Their dessert breads are really the best. Warmed up at work in a microwave for a few seconds, with coffee they are amazing. If you're looking for a standard coffee cake, theirs are amazing but I also think that the cherry and lemon poppy dessert breads make for great additions to coffee time! Service is always great and similar to Barrio Bread, you can tell that everyone working here is really passionate and proud of their products. My family and I absolutely love Breadsmith. We are so happy they are in operation. We shop there several times a month and often times spring numerous months home for our freezer or neighbors. I love the Apple pull apart bread. It is absolutely delicious. I believe they only offer it on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you think you're going to go late make sure you call ahead and reserve a loaf. My other favorites are sourdough and pumpernickel. Although the sourdough is nothing like the bay area I still enjoy it. I also love their chocolate chip scones. They freeze quite well and can be enjoyed for breakfast or a snack at a later date. I highly recommend anyone looking for a bread shop to come out and patronize this establishment read more

My husband and I have been fans of Breadsmith since we moved to Oro Valley in 2021, but now consider ourselves super fans since the new owner took over. They're still making the usual, outstanding, loaves of bread and coffee cakes, but it's the new items that have us returning more than we did before. The owner isn't afraid to experiment and often has samples out to share. Our most recent order consisted of a large loaf of ciabatta, Nutella swirl, similar to a cinnamon roll, blueberry danish and a croissant. All were stellar. A few months ago they had incredible almond croissants and I haven't been lucky enough to see them again! I must be going on the wrong days. :) The staff have always been very kind and helpful, but again with the new ownership, the ambiance has changed. There's more of a vibrancy to the place. Everyone is visibly happy to be there, including the owner. I always leave with a smile on my face thanks to the small talk... and samples, of course. read more

I like the I used to buy this bread regularly. Inside the bakery, there was a creepy guy that used to just stare. Even if he was doing something else (like loading a van, he came in when I was there). I would buy at Whole Foods. I liked the fact that there were only 5 ingredients in the bread and it tasted decent too. Well, when I first started buying at Whole Foods, the shelves were not always stock, which I was okay with cause I knew it was a local bakery and I could go over to the store. Now, Whole Foods is always stocked but it seems to be at the expense of quality (at Whole Foods and the bakery. Sometimes, the bread is a bit tough or hard and sometimes it's too moist. Where the bread used to last a week, I may get a half of a week now. If they sold half a load so that it doesn't feel so wasteful, I might still be a customer. But, they don't. I am not longer a customer. But the last few times I went into the actually bakery, the creepy guys wasn't there. read more

Not only is the bakery incredible fresh and delicious the customer service is outstanding. I recently purchased $22 worth of scones that turned out to be less than up to standards. After speaking with the owner regarding this matter she was very understanding, apologetic, and even went out of her way to make a home delivery of replacement scones, more than I originally ordered. We've tried the Russian rye, French, pretzel, country white, freedom and crostini and ALL have been amazing! I do not like rye bread because I don't like caraway seeds but this rye bread does not have caraway seeds; it is more like the molasses bread I grew up eating in Minnesota. read more

I came back to try the bread and get some rolls. It was very good. But I prefer my bread in a long crusty baguette style or round loaf. It seemed very dense and not crusty enough for our taste. I will still be on the look for local bakeries with the kind we prefer. read more

Breadsmith makes yummy bread as well as pastries. The apple pie loaf is , omg, so good.
