I lived in France for a year and am an absolute Francophile, so I was delighted to find this bakery next to Ghini's Cafe (which is mediocre at best) that offers surprisingly authentic French pastries! Everything that we have tried so far have been delicious. I especially like their eclairs and my husband really likes the Swedish princess cake. Their pastries really do take me back to France (especially during this pandemic where I can't go back just yet), so I'll happily patronize the bakery section than sit at Ghini's and endure what they dare call French cuisine. I came to this place and got baguettes and this is the second time I visit this bakery and the lady behind the counter isn't that nice. Didnt feel welcome and not a friendly place. The baguette is so so but it's better than some place I've gone to. Baguettes here is ok didnt get a chance to try other food here that they have. Service is not even ok. The person behind the counter doesn't even smile or greet friendly. Had 2 visit here and it wasn't good. Here they don't give receipt unless you ask for it ( I guess) because I always have to ask for it. Ambience here, you can dine in or outside sitting. I gave a 3 because customer service need to work on and the receipt should always given to customer and have their logo on it because that way others know what you buy and the amount you paid. Pastries were good. It is on the more expensive side ranging from 2-8 dollars per item, depending on what you order. There is a nice selection but limited on savory items. Seating is limited as the outdoor and indoor tables is reserved for the restaurant. Worth a try. read more

This is the second time I have taken home a pie only to find mold or mildew on it. It's not just gross but there is no expiration date on any of the pies - so how long had it been moldy? They sell them that way anyway - wrapped in plastic so they are totally mushy - and very expensive. NO MORE La Baguette PIES FOR ME! I will drive to a bakery that serves fresh baked goods with a smile so I can buy delicious food, continue to buy local and tip the nice, hard working people at the counter. I was in the mood to try something "new to me." We stopped by mid morning on a Saturday. La Baguette is connected to connected to Ghini's restaurant, but thankfully they have a separate entrance. They have an assortment of fresh baguettes and other savory and sweet loaves of bread in addition to pies and other pastries, croissant, cookies, cakes and more. We took an assortment of mini palmiers, some part of small almond cookie, a few slices of pear Normandy tart, and a few slices of chocolate layered pastry to serve for dessert. The chocolate was the winner. I liked the palmiers, they were just right. The other items had a strong flavor of almond extract, which I personally don't care for. The main problem here, and maybe it's the case with many bakeries, is that the products LOOK better than they TASTE. The taste isn't bad, it's that there doesn't seem to be much. This is especially the case with pies, which they insisted in wrapping in Saranwrap such that the beautiful dark brown crusts are never crisp and flaky, but rather mealy. With some experimentation you can develop a stable of items (turnovers, ham&cheese croissants, brioche rolls) that are worthy to take home. The quiches never seem as tasty as they look. La Baguette is amazing and has a huge selection of pastures, breads and other baked goods. I absolutely love their morning buns and their savory croissants are to die for. Green chili and cheese is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of them ( ask for yours to be heated up or do it yourself at home- you won't be sorry.) The breads are also very good, and this is my go-to spot when I need a fresh baguette. They're perfection. La Baguette is attached to Ghini's, so I recommend visiting when you're hungry and having breakfast or lunch while you're there. You try to support your local businesses, but it can be hard. I go in to this place on average once a week, always tip the girls, always wait patiently. This morning I needed some things and the owner waved me off, holding up 8 fingers to tell me go away until they opened, I guess. It might have been 7:57. I am truly saddened to write this review... I have been coming here, albeit infrequently, for about 10 years and I am usually happy with the service and product. I came in here yesterday to get some cookies and I asked if they were soft and I was assured that they were, so I went ahead with the purchase. I had the cookies later in the day and they were rock hard... I have ordered them before and they were incredible so I am familiar with the taste and consistency of the cookies. After having to ask for assistance when we came in, the employee taking our cake from the case acted as though we were a burden. We had made an order for a cake with ganache and raspberry filling and received a chocolate cake with buttercream. When I asked about it the lady was condescending and offered no apologies. A friend recommended this place for a cake for my son's graduation from college. We were serving 30 people so I ordered the sheet cake at $88. It seemed worth it for such a special, once in a life time occasion. I was stunned to see how they messed up the cake due to lack of proper packing. The cake was in a too wide of a box with five inches of empty space on either side (even though we drove slow and was careful to secure the box in the trunk, there was no way to stop the cake from sliding around in the box). Even worse was that they made the cake taller than the box, so all the writing was lifted on to the cover. It needed a topper to hold the cover from the cake or a taller box. I called and asked the supervisor and she was super unhelpful. She said she did her best and it's not her fault. That is the only box they have for the sheet cakes. She assumed zero responsibility even though she admitted the cake didn't fit into the box. Her answer over and over again is this is how they do it. She offered nothing in terms to make it right. I gave her many suggestions but she kept saying it's not her problem. I gave her my info for the owner to call me back, which she didn't. Truly unprofessional and I can't believe this bakery advertises that they do special events: I don't like to harm small businesses but it's been a week and still no follow up. I included pictures to show how they ruined the cake. I gave an extra star because it tasted great, even though we had an embarrassing cake that didn't celebrate my son with the words we chose. read more

Ordered a mushroom quiche for Christmas morning. Prepaid and was told to pick up 9am on Dec 24th. Arrived at 9am and there was a line of about 30 people ahead of me. It took me 40 minutes to get inside. Slow process and the two cheery counter girls attended to everyone with a smile. They had to assemble the boxes for the cakes and pies, and tend to families with kids who could not make up their minds. In addition to the two girls there was an older gentleman who could do nothing to help speed up the process. Just stood there. OH! About the $20 quiche. It appeared to be factory manufactured and frozen in a tin pie dish. At home we baked and it was soggy and the crust would not separate from the tin pan. Very unsavory. We buy Almond Croissants EVERY Saturday. We have noticed in the last month or so, that the croissants keep getting smaller and smaller, but the price remains the same. Do they think no one notices? Also, the super nice ladies that worked at the front counters that had been there forever, are now gone. No doubt the owner had something to do with it, as we have watched him come out to the front and demean staff time and time again. Too bad, as we love the bakery and it is close to where we live. Just your local french bakery, nothing fancy with all the yummy pastries I can think of. There were tons of sweet and savory croissants, quiche, brioche, cookies and cakes. Wish I can have one of everything but since I couldn't it just means more visits back :) I was raised with a donut shop so I love bakeries that I can stop by and pick up something for breakfast. Not healthy but fast and filling. I picked up a fruit tart and a few macarons after the place I went for lunch didnt have much options. Fresh fruits, not to sweet. This has nothing to do with their baked goods except we gave it another chance again making the long trek to Tucson from San Tan Valley. If you saw my earlier review, I had posted about their usually wonderful cake slices being stale (their pastries were good as always) that are kept in the cold case. I got a response from the bakery saying they had had trouble with one of their cold cases and if I wanted to give them another chance, they would replace the three cake slices for free. So we went down there today and bought pastries as usual along with selecting the three cake replacement slices. I had the print out of the offer to replace them which shows the correspondence between us. The owner happened to be sitting there and the girl behind the counter, who had shown it to her immediate supervisor, then took it to him and he REFUSED TO HONOR IT accusing it of being "fake." It said "La Baguette Bakery" right on the print out, but he said it needed to have the person's name who offered to replace the cake slices on it! The girl apologized but said he was the owner and she had to go by what he said. My husband got into it with him and he refused to listen to reason. We are 70 and 71 year old people and not the type to do forgeries as he accused us of doing. No matter how good their baked goods are, needless to say, that is the worst customer service over three measly cake slices when we spend (including this visit) at least $50 each time we come down. Too bad he lost us as a customer over his terrible customer service and accusations. Beware. read more

This place is great if you love French pastries, but you're on a diet...as in you'll never eat much of their offerings. What they sell is overpriced for what they offer. A rather small $3 croissant that has so much egg wash that it tastes rather egg-y. The texture inside is more bread-like than a classic croissant. I tried something they called, "Fragiapan" I assume they intended it to be Frangiapane. Anyway. it was very dry and day old tasting with almost no almond filling. I have visited this place over the years once I forget how lackluster they are. Each time I come away spending two to three times what I would consider fair for what they offer. More like a 2.5, perhaps? I stumbled upon this spot while shopping at the Fry's next door! I absolutely love French bakery so I was excited to see this cute little cafe calling my name from the parking lot. They have a decent selection of breads and desserts displayed. I picked up a mini baguette and a pastry to take home to accompany our dinner. The bread wasn't what I was hoping for - it tasted stale and chewy, like it had been sitting out for some time. We had a few bites but didn't finish it. The pastry looked beautiful, but we struggled to eat it - some of the pastry layers had burnt taste and we couldn't cut through it all the way with a fork, as some of the layers seemed soggy/rubbery. Again - perhaps sitting out for awhile? We had to get out a knife and do some sawing just to make it to the bottom of our dessert! The cream was yummy, but it wasn't something that I'd overall go back for. I've had amazing Napoleons before - this one missed the mark. The staff person assisting me was friendly enough, but wasn't able to answer my questions about some of the products in the case.
