Saturday morning brunch invite at Prep & Pastry on Grant... and let me just say, I'm very glad I said yes to this one. I had previously been to their Campbell location, so this time I wanted to try something completely different for breakfast. I went with the Monte Cristo with a side of their potatoes, and wow this dish absolutely delivered. First, the bread. It's thick, almost like Texas toast, which gives the whole sandwich a perfect structure. Inside, it's stuffed with delicious ham and melty cheese, then battered and cooked into that classic Monte Cristo style. The outside is crispy, the inside is soft and gooey, and every bite is full of flavor. It's the kind of breakfast that makes you pause for a second after the first bite because you know you made the right choice. And the potatoes... how do you make something as simple as potatoes taste that good? They're small, perfectly cooked, and somehow packed with flavor in every bite. My friend ordered the Duck Confit Skillet and she was definitely not disappointed. Just the presentation alone makes it look incredible, but the flavors are where it really shines. It's made with braised duck, shallots, spinach, cabernet-braised cherries, and cherry goat cheese mousse. And let me tell you they did not hold back on that cheese mousse. It was a generous scoop and it paired perfectly with the dish. It also comes with the same delicious potatoes I had, which again, did not disappoint. She ordered her eggs over medium, and honestly that's exactly how I'd get them too. For drinks, she had an iced matcha latte and I stuck with their house coffee. She said the matcha was amazing, and my coffee was exactly what you want with brunch, warm, smooth, and reliable. The staff were super friendly and helpful, which always makes the experience better. The restaurant itself is spotless and really aesthetically pleasing. It's bright, welcoming, and kind of feels like you've stepped into your grandma's cozy cottage kitchen - warm, charming, and just really cute. Safe to say... I'll definitely be back. read more

The husband and I went here for brunch this morning. There was no wait which was nice. They had the sliding doors open to let in some refresh air and flies. I ordered a ham egg and cheese croissant. They toasted the inside of it, but not the outside of it, which was a little weird. The cheese and bacon were tucked on the inside of the egg I. Just was not a fan. My husband got eggs over easy. Which came out over medium and toast and potatoes. It came as a whole meal. For just the 2 of us with these 2 very simple meals, an orange juice and a coffee. It was $50. That is crazy to me. We tried the pastries (Raspberry and a scone) for the seasonal menu drinks I had salted cinnamon cold brew that has nitro coffee, the food (Harissa Hakshusha, pork Beni poblano, French toast Lox Toast,) prices are fair. We also tried the mocktails the brunch lunch and the mangoñada with tajin rim. Restaurant was immaculate clean and we will definitely be back for breakfast. I had some high hopes for this place, however some expectations fell short. The Venue is beautiful. I loved the ambiance and decor. It was open and bright. We were seated immediately. It appeared as though there were only 3 front of house. The hostess/waitress, the main waitress and a young man doing not a whole lot. Our waitress came to take our drink order and the 2 ladies were working very well together, however it still took a while for things to come. Considering when we got there, there were only about 5 tables seated and when we left 7 tables including ours. Our food came out cold. The duck confused came in a cast iron pan that wasn't hot. When we tasted it, it was cold. I unfortunately didn't take a picture of the menu so didn't know if it was supposed to be that way. The little potato chunks were hard. Not a memorable dish. The Monte Cristo was at least warm. It was not a traditional sandwich as the bread was too thick and the ham too thin. Without the turkey, it was more of a cheese sandwich. The potatoes that came with the dish were fantastic although unseasoned. I did have to add a lot of salt and requested ketchup. They were crispy and a little smashed. To add to the dish the berry sauce. It didn't add much as previously mentioned, the bread was too thick. Overall, I don't think that I would go back. It has a lot of potential. I can see Bridal showers, baby showers and even a birthday party but they need to step things up. read more

Hadn't been here in a while and with a long weekend, dropped in Sunday late-morning, July 4th wknd. We immediately noticed that the place was 3/4 full yet staff was moving briskly. Upon further study it was evident they were short (and later confirmed several workers called out for the 3-day wknd). Our wait to be seated, to order, to receive food, and to receive bill, were all at least double what one would normally expect. This was confirmed by the sighs from nearby tables and similar waits for attention/service. We've each been on the other side of that (as a worker) and appreciated the bustling effort (and tipped better than normal to help out) but Corporate should extend holiday pay for the entire wknd or forewarn guests about the unexpectedly longer delays (we almost left before ordering, concerned about making our next stop... and in hindsight should have). While the service was completely forgivable the colder food was not. I got the half/half and my french toast wasn't even "warm" upon delivery and I couldn't finish it. The omelet half was hot and it was delicious. She described her morning breakfast entree as very good, if a bit potato heavy. This was a disappointing visit on both fronts (food/service) but surely due to extenuating circumstances. Three huge pastries including a pumpkin custard-filled donut with cafe au lait whipped cream on top, and a huge early grey blueberry scone, were fresh and buttery. I've been here a couple of times and have enjoyed each visit. They are a bit pricey but the portions are big and the food is high quality. They do get super busy at brunch time and I on weekends so I definitely recommend getting on the waitlist before you go. I got the turkey club sandwich today and it was so good! The bread was nice and crispy and the avocado spread was fresh. The fries were also tasty and well-seasoned. I ended up with a little left over for lunch tomorrow before my flight. The restaurant is clean and open. The bathrooms are also nice and clean and gender-neutral which was nice to see. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare at peak times but it wasn't too bad today. Cute spot for brunch but a bit on the pricey side - we had been here a few times and felt it hadn't been as good as the original location, but recently came back for weekend and were pleased overall with the experience. The menu has a lot of savory and sweet options, and their rotating pastry display is always tempting (especially the cronuts). My go to is usually the sweet potato hash - the herbed goat cheese with the veggies and hash comes together really nicely and is filling. This time, I had the chicken and toast - a savory take on chicken and waffles with herbed brioche French toast instead of the sweet waffle. My husband liked it more than I did so we switched meals since I thought his biscuits and gravy was better; the herbed cheddar biscuits had a nice fluffiness and saltiness with the fattiness of the gravy. He added fried chicken to the dish for more protein but wished it came with a bigger portion for the $7 added charge. Staff is friendly and food comes out relatively quickly. The ambiance is also more family friendly and the outdoor seating here is great. They've had candy cane coffees over the winter and they're tasty--you could even get them spiked(with alcohol) but only if iced. The duck confit is always a solid choice as is the salmon benedict. However, the Return of the Mac is really yummy if searching for healthy/veg option. May get pricey but overall worth it for the quality of the food and service. I ve been here before but this was a new experience. The name is & Pastry, but they only had 3 donuts in the special case at nine in the morning. The two egg breakfasts came out cold and had to be sent back. And they both were minus the potatoes. The toast was right. This is a full price restaurant when coffee is almost 5.00. It starts in the kitchen and flows to the front. One chain of a poor excuse for a breakfast house back to front. They need to start from scratch. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant this time around. Their menu offerings are focused yet there is something for everyone. The mimosa they call "The Cure" is excellent. The chicken salad on the croissant is very good and I really like the way they prepare their fries. Ambiance is a good space that doesn't feel overwhelming or overly noisy. Great service all around. I'm not sure why, but Grant Rd. location really falls short of its sister location on Campbell. I used to love their biscuits and gravy. To me, they tasted like real homemade biscuits. Today, I asked for the gravy on the side and two over easy eggs over the biscuits. Today the biscuits were dry hard and crumbly almost stale tasting, and had been over toasted with hard spots of char. The gravy was inedible,devoid of sausage thin and super salty. The egg yolks were nearly completely cooked not over easy. The coffee was tepid but quickly replaced. The server (whom I assumed was the manager as they were toward the end of their operating hours and no other wait staff was around)offered to have it redone & said she would take it off the bill. I requested an untoasted biscuit to take home instead. But unfortunately, it is not the same quality biscuit that I have been used to. I have to take points away for indifferent service and less than stellar quality food unlike past days. Not sure I would return here sadly read more

This is another update. The owner is persistent in making sure all customers are satisfied customers! After another invitation I ordered PREP'S RELLENO. Stuffed poblano pepper, egg whites, onion, corn, salsa, crispy chickpeas, poblano aioli with chorizo. It did not come out piping hot. But it was not cold and it was delicious!
