I played pool here with my friend the other day for 4 hours when the bar was dead. By the end of our day the owner was having shots with us on the house and just having a good chat. That's what I call a friendly atmosphere! Pool, shuffleboard, ping pong, taco's, great sandwiches, great music....you can't beat it NOTE: this review is NOT, I repeat, NOT for friday and saturday night. I came here on Friday night and there was a fight here. It didn't last very long, but I commend the workers on getting them out and cleaning up quickly. The jukebox selections are amazing...though I guess on this night the line of songs was too long for my friend and I to hear our picks before the jukebox was turned off and they closed. Good spot for a chill night out. Came with a group after finishing Escape Room (which was SO FUN) and we wanted to go somewhere relaxed but with a good vibe. Breadsoda was perfect. It's situated down a flight of stairs and is pretty dark. Theres a patio area with a few tables outside the bar. There are activities, as others have mentioned, such as shuffleboard, but really there are only 2 shuffleboard tables and I can imagine it gets packed sometimes. We happened to be lucky in that both were empty, but otherwise it would have been a little annoying, as the tables are really close to each other and up against a wall without much room. The main reason I can't bring myself to give this cozy bar a few more stars was the food situation -- there really wasn't any. We were able to order guac and chips, which was ok tasting, but they didn't have much else on the late night menu (we arrived around 10:15 pm on a Friday). What kind of bar doesn't have bar food? The options were basically like... pasta salad or a cold turkey sandwich. They claimed their "kitchen was closed"... A little weird. If you're not hungry and not with a huge group though, this is a good stop in Glover Park. read more

Breadsoda has an awesome vibe and even better sandwiches. The place is super chill, has a great menu and still has a dive bar feel while having great quality food. The outside section is cool too! Fun place, even if it isn't metro accessible. It has good Happy Hour deals, $4 for select (aka: very few) beers. The food is good too, and the BLTs are a notch above normal because of the excellent bacon used. They have quite a few artisanal meats and cheeses which give their food a nice edge. Their alcohol selection is above reproof and they categorize it by ciders, darks, lights, belgiums, etc. There really is something for everything and almost everything fits the $6-9 range, which is decent for DC. They also have a nice selection of games. While the darts, pool, and shuffleboard you have to pay for (by people and hour wtf) their card and board games are free. My friends and I played Cards Against Humanity and the waiter never made us feel like we were overstaying our welcome. If I were in the area I would go again! read more

Took my friend for his birthday here. I tried their chicken cheesesteak sandwich and veggie... I really liked the veggie one.. Fresh bread.. Yummy ingredients.. I felt chicken sandwich could improve on bread. Our Waitress was really friendly, after informing her that it was my buddy's birthday.. She took really good care of us... She was very friendly and Made some really good suggestion on drinks... After sometime we went to their ground level area where all the games are.. Played shuffleboard for 3 hrs straight and our Waitress kept checking on us. Great service. Great music. Had an awesome time here. Will definitely come back. Kudos to the Waitress.. With incredible sandwiches and endless activities, Breadsoda falls into the unique category of places I'm happy to go anytime, for any (or completely sans) reason. Breadsoda has the perflect atmospheric blend of chill space to chat and activities to keep peeps occupied. The BLT, veggie sandwich and turkey sandwich (add bacon- you can thank me later) complete my trifecta of menu choices at this always happening and happy watering hole. With shuffleboard, billiards, darts and Wii as activity options, merriment-seekers never tire here. I'm also a huge fan of the owner/manager who is around almost every time I'm there, regardless of the time or day of the week. Very friendly, chatty and not in a creepy or trying-to-get-a-tip way. Normally I like a bar where I can cut up a rug if I feel so inclined, but at Breadsoda, I'm always having so much fun acquiring a new case of Wii tennis elbow that the thought of a dancefloor never crosses my mind. I painted a picture once in my mind of a place that fulfilled my wildest fantasies! It was a naked supermodel who kept wanting me to hang out with her and refused to take no for an answer. But this place was a pretty close second!!! Screen shots from Bullitt (the movie you young padwans!) pool, ping pong on tuesdays, beer on tap, great tacos, chilled staff, wii, booze, chicks, tacos, ping pong, jukebox, great ambience. I attended a social with my coworkers at Breadsoda. I heard that there were games and Happy Hour specials, so I was pretty interested in finding out what this place was all about. There were pool tables, shuffleboard, as well as Wii games that charge you by the hour for an x dollar amount. I've never played shuffleboard before, but it was fun and interesting in trying to hit certain number of points to win! For some bites, there was a Deviled Eggs plate (my absolute favorite of the evening), Charcuterie Plate (thin-sliced piccolo prosciutto, capicola hot, genoa salami, black forest ham, olives, parmesan served with toasted french baguette slices and oil & vinegar), Chips & Guacamole (tortilla chips served with fresh guacamole), Chips & Salsa (tortilla chips served with salsa), Fruit Salad (mix of pineapple, melon, strawberries, blueberries & cantaloupe), and some of their sandwiches. The staff were friendly, and it was a laid-back type of a place where you can hang out with your friends/co-workers for some noshing, drinking, and playing a few rounds of games. Kind of reminds me of an underground/basement type of a setting, slightly dark, and a few tables and seats scattered about. Breadsoda is a fantastic staple watering hole in Glover Park that I hope never goes anywhere! The staff are always so friendly and down to earth, trivia nights and Taco Tuesdays are some of my personal favorites -- PSA: the chorizo tacos are bomb -- but the rest of their menu also has a great selection of deli-style sandwiches and other goodies. My only wish is that they would add french fries to their menu. They also have a large selection of games (billiards, ping pong, board games, cards, etc) which is great if you're there with a big group of friends/coworkers, and this is one of the only spots where I can find a $4 Guinness on happy hour, which is a steal. read more

I really wavered between 3 and 4 stars here. A couple of us went for happy hour on Tuesday night, excited by the prospect of $4 beers and ping pong! Well, before 5:00pm they were out of 3 of 4 of their happy hour beers...all that was left was Miller Lite. You're killin me Breadsoda, you're killin me. I didn't drink Miller Lite, call me a snob. The bartender said he'd give us other beer choices at happy hour prices, but when we paid our tab hours later, of course he had charged us full price and his shift was long over. Not cool. The place was pretty dead most of the time we were there, but when we finally left around 8 it had picked up, and some frat boys had taken over much of the bar. I appreciate that until then it was low key. I also got the Mixed Plate to munch on while we engaged in heated ping pong competition, and it was definitely tasty. The music was awesome, I'll give them that. I like the casual vibe and the games. But I'm still feeling kind of meh about this place I guess...hm. I do like this place. I actually liked "My Bakery", which used to be at this location, more. But the food is delicious, if a little too expensive for me to go to lunch there everyday. It seems like the perfect atmosphere for a happy hour, though I haven't been for that yet, with all the pool tables, darts, and "tacos and ping pong" days. The staff while kinda lazy, are always nice if not attentive. Great selection of beers and alcohol though. All of their sandwiches are delicious. Quality ingredients, speaking of their fresh bread and higher than usual grade of deli meats. I ate a great Reuben here yesterday, not greasy like most I eat, but very satisfying with great corned beef. I usually get a side of their pasta salad, which although extra, is delicious; you can taste the olives and fresh parmesan cheese. Their pickles are odd, sweet but not sour; not usually my cup of tea, but whatever. Their soups are also good; this guy next to meet at lunch the other day told me to combine their chili and mexican baja chicken soups... While this was probably a poor idea, I could tell that they were both delicious separately, and only marginally less so together. But I was intrigued, and hey, I've had worse. Although I am not a frequenter of Georgetown, some friends and I had our tractor beams trained to this place for a few weeks. Finally, everything was in place: we had a group of hungry people, after dinner plans, and nowhere to eat- Huzzah, Breadsoda! We practically skipped down the stairs to the shady patio. First things first. While there isn't a large beer menu, they have the only thing that matters: Cider. (If you are confused about why this is important then please read the rest of my reviews, as I think I mention cider in the lions share of them...) I think three out of the four of us in my party had the Blackthorn, which was very reasonably priced at $5. I enjoyed my grilled cheese with bacon, although the other folks in my group were not as thrilled. I thought the bacon was delicious, and the thick sourdough bread was amazing. An added bonus was our waitress. She was engaging and accommodating. When one of our party was arriving later she brought out a cold brew for them so it would be ready for when they got there, and even put it in a glass of ice to keep it chilled. I loved the interior, and would definitely return for a night of pool there, as it sounds pretty reasonable. I was impressed, and look foward to going back! read more

I've heard some good buzz about Breadsoda from other Yelpers and the WaPo Express so the lady friend (LF) and I ventured through the pouring ran to get some good boar's head sandwiches. Because it pouring rain on a Saturday afternoon, we were the only ones in the place (someone came halfway through our meal), so we pulled up a seat at the bar and grabbed some menus. First impression of the place was great, I could envision myself here on Saturdays and Sundays watching football, shooting some pool or playing some Wii while enjoying unique beers. The place looks sleak, the type of place I would build if I had the balls to buy and create my own bar/restaurant. As for the food... it lived up to expectations. I got the turkey sandwich that was on cibatta bread with a nice spicy chipotle mayo - personally, I would have liked some crunch by way of romaine lettuce or mixed greens... but life goes on. The LF had the grilled cheese (chedder), she didn't like how melty/liquidly it was b/c it reminded her of kraft singles... I thought the bread was awesome but had to agree w/ her on the cheese. As for sides, we got some refreshing potato salad and a kick-ass homemade pickle. Please make the pickles bigger! Overall, Breadsoda is a place that I would visit again soon. We tried this place out on a Sunday afternoon. The interior was spacious-dark wood, very spread out and clean. Big Tvs, shuffle board, darts--all look fun! We ate outside under and a 2 two great beers (Kasteel and Delirium) as well as delicious sandwiches (Moroccan Chicken Salad and a Sub). The potato salad was great! Downstairs has no windows and is dark in the day, almost like a casino, and comfortable and spacious with pool tables and plenty of seats. Bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly, happy to let you have a taste of the various beers on tap. The menu is limited to sandwiches and appetizers, so there's not much in the way of bar food and those seeking potato skins or chicken fingers to go with their beers will be disappointed. But the sandwiches are filled with meat and well-made, and the cheese plate is a good snack to share. read more

I've only been once, but I thought it was nearly perfect. The decor is really hip - and I tend to hate "really hip" decor - but also very calm and not overdone The staff was super cool. I biked all the way there only to realize that I had forgotten the key for my lock. They let me stick it back in the office. That level of understanding for my plight really started the night off right. The deli selection was great. I had one of the best Reubens I've ever had there. The potato salad wasn't all that good, but it was authentic deli-style potato salad, and the pickle was gross, but the quality of the Reuben more than makes up for all that. The beer selection is second to none, in my opinion. The jukebox is great. I didn't see too many people play pool, but people were getting very, very into Shuffle. About as good as a neighborhood bar can get. Excellent salads and sandwiches, excellent beer selection, good choice of games to play. Three small things keep this place from attaining 5 stars. 1. It's a bit expensive. The beers are downright overpriced. Same with the games, the Wii especially. 2. Table service can be a bit spotty, but the bar is always great. 3. The jukebox is good, but the place is crying out for DJs and a well curated deep house/soul/r&b music policy. But it's unreasonably difficult to get a live music license in this neighborhood. read more

I like this place. Plain and simple. Great vibe inside, friendly staff and fun. The beer selection is very good. The food is also good I wouldn't say excellent but worth trying. They have fun games which can be a bit pricey throughout the week but happy hours make it do-able on certain days. Tuesday night is ping-pong which is awesome. Also I like how this bar doesn't get overly crowded or blast music so you can actually have a conversation which is a change for most bars in DC especially. Good place for a fun date night. It's a bar that is designed to enjoy a bar experience. It's not a restaurant, and don't high end entrees. They sell bar food. Sandwiches, chips, etc. I can appreciate that the establishment keeps to the bar feel. The lighting is low, the games are pool, shuffle board, and darts. I really enjoyed my time here. read more

Went to Breadsoda with two friends after work one night. Its not far from work and not far from where they live so it worked out well. We sat outside because the weather was just absolutely spectacular! Not humid, not windy, warm, but not too warm... Breadsoda has lots of micro-brew beer. A good selection of local ones, and seasonal selections. They let me taste one... But I didnt love it so i ended up with a glass (or 2) of Malbec instead. My friend and I ordered a Mixed Plate to share. It inlcuded "piccolo prosciutto, thin-sliced capicola hot, 100-day aged imported swiss, dill havarti, garlic thyme goat cheese spread, toasted french baguette slices served with oil & vinegar." The Mixed Plate The night we were there (a Tuesday I think) also happened to be Taco Night! 3 Tacos for $7. I know I got one chicken, and one chorizo, but I can't for the life of me remember what the third one was. One of my friends also went for the Tacos, the other went for a Taco Salad. Everything was good! The only real complaint we had was that our server seemed very unhappy to be at work. I'm not sure we saw her crack a smile once... but I wont hold that against them. On my brief trip inside the restaurant I did see several pool tables and shuffle-board tables. Apparently, according to their website, they also have darts, ping pong, chess and Yahtzee! The pool tables and shuffle-board tables you have to pay a little bit for... but the other "board" games are free! Would definitely take another trip back here to check that out! read more

Have your personal understanding of joy re-adjusted by their turkey club (turkey, bacon, avocado, derrrrrr...) If you like tacos, do the same by visiting on taco/ping-pong night (Tuesdays). Pros: Great beer selection on tap, decent wine, knowledgeable bartenders, darts, billiards, ping pong, great pub/bar food (sandwiches, meat/cheese plates, tacos), decent staff, and great bartenders. Give their "dark and stormy" a try... Quality food and drink, at reasonable prices, in a cool and pleasant atmosphere. The musical tastes of the staff are excellent, though sometimes interesting... Totally hipster adult, non-electric gaming bar. If you like bacon, then you'll love the menu as it contains lots of it (so do the Bloody Mary's). Not complaining, just saying. There are many beer options but I found the prices seemed a bit high. Loved playing shuffleboard! My biggest turnoff was being greeted by kids running around when I arrived. I appears that they were having some sort of party which ended shortly afterwards and they cleared out, but it was kind of a buzz kill (short lived thanks to the beer!). I dine here regularly for lunch, so don't really know what it is like as a bar at night. But for lunch, Breadsoda hits the mark. While the menu appears fairly "standard," every item I've had has always tasted fresh, portions are generous, and their homemade pickles (they have a clove flavor rather than garlic) are addicting. I am a particular fan of their fabulous veggie burger, and they offer fresh cut fruit as a substitute for chips. The BLT is also excellent (great bacon), and the chili is very spicy. Service at lunch time can be a bit slow sometimes, but they are very friendly and I'm sure if I told them my time was limited, they would accommodate. When the weather is nice they have a few outdoor tables at the top of the stairs, but the atmosphere inside is very dark as there are no windows (it's below street level). They have a pool and ping pong table, and shuffleboard. I've come here a few times for a quick drink after work and played ping pong...fun! read more

This place was highly recommended, I agree with the above recommendations that its not your usual sports bar, it is a little more sophisticated. The food is good with vegan plates. (Great vegan chili) and very good sandwiches. They have a very big selection of beers (leffe on draft) I went with my girlfriend in a cold day that we could not find anywhere else to watch a game and eat. We loved the food, but it feels like the owners do not want to have a sports bar. they had the TVs on but had no sound, not even music on. One of the costumers had to ask to turn the game audio on or at least music. The games are great. We played pool but they have many more. So in conclusion the food is good great draft selection but not the best place to go watch a game. read more

I have only ever done take out from here, as I work a few block away and my colleagues and I love their half soup and half salad or sandwich deal especially as the weather is getting colder. Their soups are amazing particularly their Guinness Clam Chowder. Since I grew up on good clam chowder as my mom is originally from New England, I am super picky about my Clam Chowder and BredaSoda's hits the spot! Additionally, some of the office favorites are the Ruben or Grilled Cheese and Bacon Sandwich. They also are willing to accommodate changes or additions such as one colleague likes extra sour cream with their chili and another prefer's oyster crackers instead of saltines. However, recently the quality and level of customer service has gone down. A few weeks ago the gave me the wrong sandwich for a co-worker. The co-worker didn't realize it was the wrong sandwich until half way through because it was so good but I tend to check the order now. Then I this week I called and was asked to hold when I said I wanted to place a pick up order. No W The phone was put down and I could here every vulgar word of a conversation I assume the bartender was having with a patron. After waiting 5 + minutes I hung up the phone and walked over there to place the office lunch order. Only to get back to the office to find the salad dressings did not make it in to the to go orders and only had one spoon even though we had ordered more than one half soup and half salad/sandwich combo's. I had been thinking about taking some out of town friend's here over the weekend because it looks like a fun place to go for some food, a few beers and some games. However, if I keep having screw-ups with my take-out orders what type of service should I expect to get in the actual restaurant. Great hang out. Probably 4 star food but the games and specials are really too awesome to not throw a 5 out there. They have a taco night, ping pong night, free game night, darts, shuffle, pool and wii. What else can you ask for? My favorite is to go during the week to post up for a couple hours. I went to Breadsoda to celebrate my 22nd birthday .The woman who waited on my party was very attentive and sweet. I was also very impressed with the service when I asked if they had sangria , she said no BUT she went to ask if the bartender would make a pitcher , per my request ; they did. The sangria was good for being made on the spot. Also , if you're celebrating a b-day ...a shot is on the house! ;) I didn't try any of the food items from the menu but everything sounded good and looked moderatly priced. The atmosphere of the bar was relaxed and trendy , which I also really enjoyed. I gave Breadsoda three stars only because mid-way through our night , another waitress came to clean the table and she was very abrasive and rude to one of my close friends. However , overall I enjoyed it and have been back since that night. A must go place if you happen to be bar hopping or relaxing after work. read more

what a nice neighborhood gem! plenty of space to take a big enough group for some shuttleboard, billiards, darts or even wii. good selection of local drafts along with nice bottle/can drafts. i've only been here later in the evening so i can only speak for the late night menu but everything i have had has hit the spot right now. nothing too fancy but just enough to get you prepared for a night of fun and games ahead ; ) during the warmer nights, there is also seating outside on the street level which is nice. last time i was there, i didn't see anyone come to take our orders but not a problem at all- it's not too far to the attentive bar staff. i've seen this place at varying degrees of super packed to dotted with patrons here and there and even at extreme degrees, i've always enjoyed myself here. if you're in the glover park area, stop by for a drink or two. read more

I hesitate to write about Breadsoda in fear it will get wildly popular, and I won't enjoy crowding in there. But it's too good to let it go unnoticed. I've never had the food, but the drinks are always stiff and you don't have to flash a bartender to get attention. (It's so refreshing to not have to work for your drinks in D.C.) Their outdoor seating area is nice, and there's plenty of places to sit inside as well. While I haven't gone to the karaoke night yet, I fully intend to -- when I decide I can stay up that late on a school night. Ten o'clock is kind of late to get the party started. read more

Hands down the best bar in Glover Park. Now that I have moved across town I find myself constantly missing Breadsoda. In a nutshell- it is sorta trendy without being pretentious, has a great beer selection at reasonable prices, and friendly bartenders who are willing to provide recommendations, but are far from intrusive. As far as food- I have only ordered an apologetically overpriced Reese's Cup. However, it was served on a plate with a fork and knife, and smirk from the bartender. I come for the shuff. The tables are 9/10. Really fast, long, and fun. The table closer to the bar has a bit of a pitch to it, that makes for a few tricky shots. We came during happy hour which is every day, and uh, happy hour means $4 Amstel Lights. I don't want to know how much they cost during not-happy-hour. Outlandish prices for beer considering how affordable the food menu appeared to be. Oh well, we didn't stay for food. My waitress was one of the nicest people I've ever come in contact with in DC, but bartenders seemed a bit stiff. Pool tables were old school Brunswicks, but very well maintained.
