I am SO glad I found this place! I didn't eat anything here, but it's a great environment. The music was a great mix, and while there are only 3 pool tables here, it wasn't too crowded so it was easy enough for us to nab a table. They have a bunch of beer on tap and have a full bar. Was here last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the people and atmosphere. Waited for some friends to arrive and was there about an hour early. This was a great place to enjoy a few of the numerous beers they have on a warm sunny day. There were plenty of people sitting at the tables but I managed to find one on the upper level by the street. Just about everyone had their dog and every dog was brought a bowl of water along with the owners drinks. Its a nice place to hang out and people watch, plus they have board games available to keep you entertained. Didn't have any food but did hang out with friends for about 4 hours. It's well known that Breadsoda is the best bar in DC. The Best. The bartenders, managers, owners, security, servers, cooks and others are truly awesome. Somehow they are are always innovating, but seem to stay the same in the way you need a bar to be reliable. So many things make Breadsoda the best, but just think about this: Next door is a hardware store, and there's a pho joint, strip club, and pharmacy (for after the strip club) just up the block. Of course, a funeral home is just across the street. So really, you can live and love your entire life within a 50ft radius and Breadsoda is your anchor. It's certainly mine. Breadsoda was the ideal party venue! Compared with most other DC venues l checked out, Breadsoda do not charge for room hire. That saved $500 up front! The only hiring costs were for the private use of billiard tables and dart board throughout the party. There was certainly enough room for our 70 strong crew to generate a great party atmosphere. Steve and the team were highly accommodating. I was able to connect my iPhone to Breadsoda's stereo system to play a personalised Spotify playlist for the birthday girl. There was a microphone available for speeches also. I organised this event from my home base in Australia so clear and responsive communication was both needed and provided. The selection of food and beers was great and prices were reasonable. The only reason that 5 stars weren't awarded is because of the inconsistent delivery of food throughout the event. A number of plates came out at the end after most people had left. Closer attention could have avoided this oversight; however it did not diminish our experience overall. The fact that Breadsoda is located at the site of an old GoGo club gives it extra cred! I would highly recommend using Breadsoda for a party or fun night out in downtown D.C.! read more

Even though my roommate was wearing a dress, this was the only option to get served. I live right in Glover Park and Breadsoda is a fun bar in the area. It's great for happy hour and has a very chill vibe on weekend nights. They have pool and darts as well. Overall I'd recommend it but some of their bartenders are rude so it depends on who you get. read more

The vast ocean of privileged yuppies, frat douches and good old boys that is Georgetown spills over into Glover Park and they dictate the climate of every single bar, restaurant, coffee shop, etc. in the area. However, there is a gleam of hope for those of us who don't fall into the above categories: Breadsoda. I reluctantly moved to Glover Park and I instantly felt like an outsider at most of the bars I went to in the area (G&T, town hall, blah blah blah, yadda yadda). If you don't look like everyone else and have a sliver of individuality in the way you dress people look at you funny. But on a random Tuesday night my roommate and I went to Breadsoda. It was a lot more welcoming than the other establishments with lots of activities including pool, shuffleboard, wii, darts and ping pong. It's a cool place that attracts cool people in a not so cool area. Now I go there every Tuesday. They have a great beer selection, tasty tacos, good music and the bar staff is friendly. It seemed like I had finally found a place in Glover Park that wasn't obliterated by douchebag nation. I tried going there on a Friday night once only to witness my beloved sanctuary infested with the aforementioned good old boys and yuppies I'm desperately trying to escape. In three words: vociferous, pretentious and obnoxious. I just got one beer and headed for the hills before I was infected. At least I have my Tuesday nights ... for now. read more

Always have a good time here. It's never the first stop of the night, usually the last. When hanging out with friends it's a good activity place. Picked up a sandwich for lunch after reading the reviews. Place was decent (and empty) but I guess its a bar in Glover Park at noon. Looks like they have pretty good happy hour deals and a large space for activity. Looks somewhat dingy from the outside - you have to walk downstairs to enter the building. Someone at the bar had the cheese/cold cut/ hummus platter. Looked DELICIOUS. I went with the Turkey Sandwich. Came with a pickle and a bag of chips for $9. Kind of expensive for a basic sandwich, next time I will visit Subway or Safeway down the street. Service was kind but not over the top. Boar's head meat - same as deli selection, but maybe I just chose the wrong thing. Decent sandwich but I could have made the same myself! For $9 I wouldnt say it was worth it. read more

Wow. A sports bar for grown folk. What's even more shocking is that, now that I've been to Breadsoda, I'm realizing that (a) this concept was a long time coming; and (b) nobody else has done this. Breadsoda is an upscale sports bar, replete with pool tables, shuffleboard and ample plasmas. However, it has excellent beer (e.g., Troeg's), pretty decent food and ample space. Yep, even during the NCAA Tourney on a Saturday night, we were able to find a seat at the bar. Nobody was hooting over their first beer, nobody spilled on me, I wasn't bumped into and no college kid tried to prove his masculinity by starting something with me. What a concept. For happy hour it would be nice to have some homemade pretzels or some kind of dip to munch on while I enjoy my beer out on the patio. Pickles just don't do it for me. This place is located roughly two blocks from where I used to work and from the moment it opened it was a happy addition to my lunch spot options. The sandwiches, made on the spot and accompanied by sides (pickles, red potato salad, decent coleslaw) are DELICIOUS. Joey Tribiani would approve. I highly recommend the grilled cheese sandwich with applewood smoked bacon and a side of avocado. Drool. However, you'd better have at least 15 minutes to wait for that sandwich and be prepared to check that your order is correct. Clearly sandwich 'art' does not come quick. Drink options for lunch are great too, with a variety of fancy schmancy fizzy juices, odd flavor sodas, and mineral waters. I've never come here after hours (who wants to head back to upper Georgetown when you already work there?) but they definitely have all the entertainment options for a good bar - pool table, outdoor area, Wii, darts, and a movie screen. read more

I don't know how I ended up here, but I did and had a decent time drinking beers and playing a bit of shuffleboard. Since my friends and I showed up there on a Sunday night (granted it was a holiday that Monday), it was unsurprisingly quiet. Which was perfectly fine for a group of drunk or semi-drunk patrons just wanting to find a cure for late night hungers and a hankering for some random bar room games. And while the kitchen was already closed, we did get to enjoy some prepackaged cucumber salad and a few bag of chips...awesome. I'll have to make another trip to be able to provide a complete opinion. But being located in Glover Park, far from any metro, does provide some geographical hurdles. If that isn't a problem for you, and you're looking for an alternative to the standard Buffalo Billiards or Rocket Bar adventure, then Breadsoda fills that role. read more

It's BRAND spankin new. So new in fact that they didn't open yesterday because they didn't receive a delivery. That said, the food around my office is not that great. The Korean owned deli in the building is a crying shame, so this is a welcome breath of fresh air. The people from my office think it's a bit too hip; loud music playing, pool tables, ping pong, juke box, Wii, and flat panel monitors on the walls. Coming from LA this place is very comfy for me. Plus the food is good. Everyone has been raving about their sandwiches and salads. Some have complained about the length of time you have to wait, but come on the place has literally been open 4 days. They don't have all the details down yet. In a few months if they're still scrambling to get things done in an orderly fashion we will have a problem. Right now, it's fine and I feel like I'm a part of the process of helping them develop while watching the learning curve. I have high hopes for the longevity of this place. I work upstairs, so I've stopped down at Breadsoda a couple times after work for a beer and a sammich. I love the place. I'm getting to know some of the bartenders, and they're all really nice and if you dont know what kind of beer to get, they're helpful with the samples. Their sandwiches are really good. I usually get the turkey which comes with some tasty chipotle mayo that gives it a little kick. And as a rule, I usually HATE coleslaw but theirs is awesome! Seriously, I think they lace the coleslaw with crack. Their chili is absolutely spectacular as well. My mom doesn't even make chili this good. A little bit of heat and a whole lot of flavor. I also love that they have a lot of imported beers on tap like new fave Gaffel and Delirium. I also love that the atmosphere, from the basement-bar darkness to tattooed bartenders and waitstaff. Plus, darts, pool, shuffleboard, ping pong, Wii (whew)! It's such a nice change of pace from the buttoned-up prepness of the other Georgetown/Glover Park bars. Didn't think I'd be a fan since it's ridiculously out of the way. But after a microecon final on which the entire class thought they'd made a 20, booze and games were a must. I sucked down two St. Germains in the flashest of flashes: St. Germain, prosecco, lemon juice, and simple syrup is summer in a glass. Perfection. All I could ask was for them to be a bit stronger -- I still had recollections of the test after drinking them, which was not at all what I wanted. The sandwiches, especially the grilled cheese with bacon, looked amazingly delicious. Attended Hannah's UYE at Breadsoda and walked away with a fairly good vibe from the place. It's kind of like an upscale version of your collegetown bar. Decent food and drinks, friendly bartenders, a couple of pool tables, a dart board... I can't speak as to the quality of the food since I didn't have any. But their Dark 'n Stormys were pretty good as were their beers (a little pricey for the setting though). Breadsoda also gets points for having a few outside tables complete with heat lamps going for those that just want chill by themselves for a little bit. All in all, probably a fun neighborhood joint. I wouldn't come here unless I was in the area (or for another UYE), but locals should certainly take advantage! read more

Being that I work in Georgetown it's no wonder that it was a matter of time that I tried bread soda. This Place has an interesting feel to it. Although I never went inside because my group sat outside for happy hour-I would say that I was fairly satisfied with the service. The drink specials are what drew me to this place. I'm not an alcohol snob but it's quite clear that the liquor is not obviously top shelf but it does the job. my group also ordered a side of hummus as well as chips and dip and obviously these were done just fine. Nothing over-the-top nothing too fancy but also looking at the other end of the spectrum it wasn't as bad as it could have been. 3.5 Stars Ive been to breadsoda a few times and I have learned that it's best to come before 9 if you want a table, but I guess that's pretty obvious. Also, if you want to get on the shuffle board table, be sure to give your name to the bartender, just going up to the people playing is meaningless. The prices for shuffle board are about average for places in the area, as are the prices for beer, drinks. What is nice about this place is there tasty sandwiches, they use boars head meats. They have a great list of beers on tap, usually about 12 or so. In addition they have a nice cocktail list which includes Dark and Stormy's with goslings (the only way). They are only $7 each, which isn't bad. Overall this place is a bit like the scene in G'town, which isn't my favorite, but if you hunker down on shuffle board, its a nice spot. read more

Not impressed. This bar has a serious identity crisis on its hands. Is it a trendy retro watering hole as the interior decorations would suggest? A pool hall? A sports bar? It's all of these things and yet does none particularly well. On top of that, the one bartender, a grim, bearded past his prime hipster in no hurry to help us, earned the place no additional points in the service department. The bar is certainly spacious, yet because of the three massive pool tables (surely at least one too many?) and the shuffle board table (complete with screaming participants) along with the din of the football game playing, the bar felt cramped and loud. This makes me hesitant to treat it as a neighborhood bar in the same way I would the TV and games-free Passenger bar, for example. It's just too damn noisy here, and we never felt particularly welcome. The beer selection was pretty good, but not enough of a standout to have to deal with beard-o for a second round. read more

So a guy out front, who may or may not have worked for this place told me that they'd be serving food. Basic like cold cuts. The bartender tells me no that they have a few fruit and pasta salads and beef jerky. Granted it was late but I was ravenous so I went for the beef jerky and pasta salad. Whatever, add a beer and I have had worse meals. Well they were out of jerky. I had pasta salad. I don't like pasta but had just gotten into town and no where else (aside from the strip club) was serving food. There was a decent selection of beer and great punk music on. I enjoyed that aspect. The bartender was named Jason and he was super friendly, which is appreciated when you are an out of towner. If I'm back around here I would definitely come back. I just need to update this. I must have been to breadsoda about 8000 times since the last review. I just want EVERYONE to go and try the veggie burger there. It is heavenly. My hubby is a HUGE carnivore so he wasn't convinced until I made him eat half my sandwich (ever the regret!) It is a warm veggie patty with some secret sauce, tomato, lettuce and served on a pillowy ciabatta roll. There is a photo of it I see there... ... actually, I think I am just going to put some clothes on and head down there for a sandwich RIGHT NOW. This is my favorite bar in D.C. A great spot to come for a quiet drink, or bring a group of friends. The daily specials are good, especially the DC Brau special on Mondays which coincides with Trivia night. I'm also a big fan of the extended happy hour on weekends. I really like it here :) - Decor. This place is the basement of the jerk in high school that you hung out with only because his dad was really cool and had a pool table and a bar and dart boards. But back in high school, that jerk didn't have a Wii. This place does. Although the price to play that is too expensive in my opinion, I played darts here for my first time and had a jolly time. - Outdoor area. Although the patio has no glamorous view by any means, it's as good as an underground location can give its customers. Also, with the seating, heaters, and a few plants, it seems as though they did as good of a job as they could. - Food. Sure it's only sandwiches, but they're decent and decently priced and I think of this place primarily as a bar so I won't complain. - The bartenders. None of them are overly friendly by any means but they just seem like they really want to make customers happy. I've seen them have detailed discussions about which types of whine or whiskey a customer would prefer and offered samples, etc. And one time when I was sipping on some shirley temples (it was a school night), one bartender filled up a whole lil glass full of maraschino cherries for me. Not that it's a huge deal considering how cheap those lil sugar treats are, but I thought it was a thoughtful touch. During the week it's pretty empty but nonetheless very enjoyable. Weekends can get supercrowded but still not hard to find some space to comfortably talk. Location warning : I live within walking distance and love going here. But the lack of metro anywhere remotely near here would probably hinder me from going if I didn't live so close. read more

With our newest Balance Gym location being right up the street, I can bet you, you'll probably now see me here at least once a week for lunch. I have yet to check it out for "bar time" and have only stepped inside long enough to spot all the shuffle board tables, seating and room and to grab some menus. What I can tell you is how much I love their food and their outdoor seating during the day hours. Big fan of their half sandwich/cup of soup for $6.95 deal. Their "half sandwiches" are no joke, they're basically a whole sandwich. I highly recommend the Moroccan Chicken Salad. It has just a little bit of spice and a lot of creaminess. And for the soup, go with the Crab Soup! I think from now on I might even just start ordering bowls of this stuff. A little salty (which I love) and a whole lot of crab. They don't skimp at all, every bit is a mouthful of crab. read more

Just realized I never reviewed Breadsoda - oversight given that I eat there more than any other place in DC. We eat there about once per week for lunch when we're in the neighborhood. Sandwiches are very good, outstanding for the prices. (I recommend the Cali, the Breadsoda, the veggie burger, and the BLT, but all are good.) The staff is friendly, and service is generally pretty good. Good happy hour deals, too. I can't remember what the times are during the week, but it's, like, 12-7 on weekends: $4 Miller Lite, Guinness, Stella, and Peroni (and some mixed drinks, but I can't remember what they are). They have pool and some other bar games, and they have board games behind the bar. Tables are good for chatting, and their outdoor tables are nice if it's not too hot or cold. My biggest criticism is that it's a little too dark inside and the music's sometimes just a bit too loud for convo. (Not bad for a bar, but a bit too dark and loud during the day.) Definitely the best spot in Glover Park for a quick meal, and some of the better sandwiches in the District at any price. Best sandwiches in the District under $8-9. read more

Great chili, great grilled cheese and bacon sandwich, and a heavenly reuben. Yes, I get here for the food, but also for the games. Several times, at the start of my Glover Park night of mayhem tour, I would stop in to get a sandwich and possibly shoot pool or Wii while waiting for friends to catch up from work or other locations. The venue never seems to lose its entertainment value and is certainly worth a stop if not your entire night. The four stars are based on potential, as this place is only officially opening tonight. I had a chance to check it out during the open house last weekend, and I'll give another review after I've had the chance to check it out a bit more. But on first glance, this is a welcome addition to Glover Park. The basement bar (in the space formerly occupied by My Bakery) features a pool table, ping-pong table, shuffleboard table, darts and a Wii setup in the far corner. There are about 10 beers on tap, most imported. The bartender said the plan is to rotate about half of the taps each month, to keep the selection fresh. They'll also have food, although I didn't get a chance to sample any. What breadsoda appears to be able to provide is a more neighborhood feel than the owners' other Glover Park bar, Bourbon. The thing that will decide how I ultimately feel about breadsoda is the crowd - the space is too small for the hordes of Georgetown types that pack Bourbon and Town Hall on the weekends. This bar may be best on weeknights, when the crowds should be smaller and there'll be room to play on the game tables. read more

This is a very welcome addition to the Glover Park lunch scene. I work in the area and have been depressed with the lack of good places for a quick bite. Great sandwiches - they have a good selection and prices are reasonable - and nice outdoor seating area perfect for the summer. It's brand new and still has a few kinks to work out, but this place has great potential. They're working on hiring a waitress for lunch, which will help, but I will definitely go back, and am hoping to try it out for a happy hour sometime soon. read more

This place is good. Not great, but really good. My girlfriend and I have been coming here as our pseudo-dive since moving to Georgetown. It has the chill vibe that we want without that pretension found at a lot of places down the hill. A few months ago they raised the price of some of their cocktails to $14. I'll rarely pay $14 at a nice bar in San Francisco, a fancy place in New York or Boston, and sometimes at a José Andrés place. At Breadsoda? Awe, hell no. I'm sorry, but a place with this vibe that mostly serves deli sandwiches? $10-11 is the max someone should pay for a cocktail. So we only drink beer there now. That's ok, still worth it for the Reuben. And we keep going to see if maybe one day that crab chowder on the menu will actually be served. One day... read more

I went there for the first time recently after running into a friend down the street. There is a decent amount of outdoor seating, couldn't tell you about the inside because we sat outside. The happy hour selection was a bit disappointing, with a handful of beers on there for $4. I tried the Viking Lager, which was very crisp and refreshing. The food menu had enough variety that most should be satisfied with their options. The turkey sandwich (with an addition of avocado for $1.50) was delicious. It had the usual assortment of fixings, but the chipotle mayonnaise really brought it to a new level, along with the cibatta bread it was served on. Our server was friendly and frequently checked up on us for more drinks. Overall a great experience, my only complaint being the limited happy hour options, and the fact that they charge $4 for a PBR. I mean really, it's a PBR. read more

If you've ever wondered to yourself "Why would I go hang out in Glover Park?", this place might be a suitable answer to that question. For one, you can go in on a Saturday night, like last night, and not have people squeezing by you every ten seconds like you know they would be at Bar Pilar or St. Ex. There are 3 or 4 pool tables, darts, and shuffleboard, but the place is nice and spacious. It's easy to make your way to the bar and easy to get a drink from one of the smartly tattooed barkeeps who are kinda hipstery, you might say, but who cares? Hipster-hating is pretty boring at this point. And besides, they're kind of friendly. The people who come here can be a strange mix. I mean, it is near Georgetown, so you can get some of that. Pretty sure I saw a group of east coast republicans last time I was there. But for the most part, the patrons seem to be typical NW DCers. The beer list is on the small side, but good. The food is yummy and distinct enough to make you forget it's bar food. Oh, and don't miss taco Tuesdays. Oh yeah, and seeing Tara L's review made me remember that they did have a DJ who played lots of old-school hip hop which I'm a total sucker for. Not a sucka MC, you understand!
