I was in the mood for a Thursday brunch and in the area so decided to give Breakfast House a try. They have outdoor tents set up along Wellington, with a heater. Yesterday was sunny but quite windy out, so the tent sides were flapping about and letting in plenty of air circulation. They have the QR code menu on each table and bring silverware that's individually packaged in plastic. The menu has tons of options, but I'm always drawn to a handful of items: hashes, chilaquiles, and huevos rancheros. Lucky for me, all 3 items are on the menu AND there are 2 hash options. We started with 2 coffees, which were very necessary to keep us warm. For brunch we ordered the Supreme Chorizo Hash with a side of toast and Chilaquiles to share. Portions are big and so filling! Loved the chipotle aioli on the hash, and the crispy not greasy tortillas in the chilaquiles. I think some fresh jalapeños and more cilantro would have been a nice add, but not everyone is about that heat or cilantro taste. Looking forward for indoor dining to resume because I'll happily enjoy more brunch favorites here! read more

Such a great place for....breakfast! Were you surprised? I hear they're also great at brunch, although that's not their namesake. Everything at our recent weekday visit was perfect: the staff is awesome, and their sidewalk seating is cozy and comfy and you don't even realize you're just off busy Ashland Ave. But the star of our visit was the food. Everything was delicious! And lastly they seem to be taking great Covid precautions. Will certainly be back. Plus I hear they are adding another location in Lakeview near the Sheridan El stop. Fast paced, Poppin, 'n bussin'. They move quick in this honey, and rustic environment. Exposed brick walls and a wooden outdoor patio, pet friendly, for those pleasant summer mornings. Came here during a Saturday in the fall with my wife and we were fortunate enough to get a seat quickly. The host jokingly said it would be a 45 minute wait but shortly led us to a table. The house hash was pretty good- better than it looks! The egg was a little more cooked than I would have liked. I like mine a little runny, but this one was almost thoroughly cooked. The sauce was to die for. It really made the flavors meld together. The chorizo hash was equally as good! NOW FOR THE SIDES - I forgot to take a picture, but the pancake was the best pancake I've ever had. PERIOD. I would have had 3 of those pancakes instead of the hash. It was fluffy and not too sweet. Great breakfast place in the lake view area. I had been to one of their other locations and menu appeared the same. While this restaurant was jammed packed with a crowd , their efficient waiting list system made it a no stress way to wait. Once you put in your name you are texted a link that allows you to see exactly where you are in comparison to others. They also text you when your table is ready which is great ( I took a short walk with a friend while waiting ). Service is good, food is excellent. I stuck with my typical order of an egg white frittata with veggies and feta and it was great. My friend loved her vanilla waffle with fresh fruit on top. I've been to the other location and they don't have the chilaquiles. I will forever be a customer at this lakeview location solely bc of the chilaquiles, they're my absolute favorite bfast dish in the city. I get the chilaquiles without chorizo and they are amazing. I tend to eat quite slow, but somehow these chips never get soggy and stay super crunchy. Ugh the flavas in this dish are just so perfect. I love it too much. The yogurt parfait was fresh and tasty, however too much apple I think? The frittata was also fresh and tasty. Coffee and freshly squeezed oj are excellent (they serve intelligentsia coffee) and service is always good. Oh yeah they also have pretty ample outdoor seating, I usually don't enjoy eating al fresco, but I've eating outside here several times, it's lovely! Breakfast House is one of those places you can't not like. If for nothing else, the menu is stacked with amazing choices that deliver on taste and portion size. We had an earlier breakfast on a Sunday morning and were able to be seated immediately. The host is a kind, older gentleman who seems pleased people are coming to eat. The same goes for the wait staff, friendly and inviting. We honestly had a tough time deciding on what to have because the menu covers all the bases and so many things sound delicious. Ultimately we had to choose so we went with omelets (pretty standard, but good), a yogurt parfait (DELICIOUS!), eggs and pancakes (standard, good), chilaquiles (yum!), and the chicken sandwich (wow!). The only hiccup was the food delivery, it came out a few plates at a time and caused only a tiny bit of awkward waiting for our table of six. After digging in we were checked on often and never went without anything that we needed. We also never felt like we were being rushed out the door (despite it getting BUSY by the time we left). All that and the price-per-portion size gave us a feeling of having received great value! We chose Breakfast House on a recommendation (and a bit of a whim) and were very pleased with the whole experience. We parked around the corner on a neighborhood street. We didn't realize we could have parked across the street in the Jewel parking lot. FYI We were greeted so nicely - like an old friend! We ordered - tuna melt with fruit, salmon patty salad, blt with fruit, and a tuna sandwich with fries. The tuna melt is served open and my son ate every bite and the fruit was fresh and a decent portion size. The blt sandwich was good only it was served with fries instead of fruit. They apologized and brought the fruit. The tuna sandwich was also good and the fries were good and crunchy. The fries were served hot Too! The salmon patty salad was a good portion. The salmon patties had a good amount of salmon in them - like my grandmother used to make. Loved every bite!! Next time in Chicago - GO TO BREAKFAST HOUSE!! read more

Couldn't ask for anything more from breakfast takeout on a freezing cold Chicago Christmas Eve. Perhaps my favorite brunch spot in the area is Ovo Frito in Evanston, and Breakfast House has immediately moved right beside it. Everything is cooked and seasoned perfectly, delicious, homemade, layers of flavor. I was equally impressed with the packaging. Brunch isn't always something that travels well, but our meal was as good as if we had it in the restaurant: the eggs were perfect, the potatoes had a nice crunch on the outside, and the pancake was nice and fluffy. We were able to get a table on the patio and I have to say out of all the restaurants we have been to, this was the most socially distanced we have had. The tables are basically sectioned out to themselves and you have ample breathing room. On top of the much appreciated COVID restrictions, the service and food was great! I loved the horchata because it is soy based and also not overly sweet. I didn't feel like I was going to crash from a sugar bomb. Wow this was the best brunch I've had in a long time!! The chorizo hash was literally the best chorizo hash I've ever had and I usually always get chorizo hash at a brunch place if it's on the menu. There are crispy bits of chorizo and corn that really make it stand out and sooooo yummy! We also got the corn cakes which were really good but not sure why it came with ham pieces. It seemed kind of random. The chilaquiles were good/above average but not super memorable. I also like that there's the option to get a side of pancakes for free with any meal instead of toast. We would have done whatever they wanted - but I did not like the delivery/tone of the message at all. And I wasn't alone in my impression - the other people I was with felt the same way. Turned out it is a small neighborhood restaurant with breakfasts that are fresh tasting, good portions, and reasonably priced with a very friendly, warm, and accommodating server and a team walking around supporting each other frequently refilling water and coffee frequently. I had the breakfast burrito and really enjoyed it. Covered in a flavorful but not spicy red sauce tipped it over the edge of not just a regular burrito for breakfast and one I would recommend. Stopped by on a busy Saturday morning (Saturday after Thanksgiving), but surprisingly the wait wasn't too terrible. We joined the Yelp Waitlist online and only stood in line for about 5-10 minutes before being seated by the host. We ordered our food and unfortunately I think they forgot about our table since the place was chaotic. Our server was very kind and offered us a complimentary plate of fresh cut fruit. The food was very delicious and reasonably priced (ordered the classic 2 eggs and bacon, which came with potatoes and pancakes (or fresh fruit or fresh tomatoes and a side of toast or pancakes). The maple syrup was really tasty (organic from a farm in Michigan). The menu itself had your typical breakfast items that you would expect anywhere. I didn't see anything that jump out at me that you couldn't get anywhere else. They are not a BYOB establishment. They have their liquor license and have a cocktails available to order. Parking was not available on the premise, but there's a parking lot across the street in the plaza that the restaurant seems to endorse for customers to park in. read more

Light, fluffy, perfectly cooked, with real maple syrup. Corn cake (3.25 for a single cake): interesting - you can taste the granular corn meal texture (what I love about cornbread) accented by some real pieces of corn. I agree with previous reviewers - the red sauce is delectable. Came here on a rainy Saturday morning around 11. Parking is residential streets but we didn't have any trouble finding a spot within a block or 2. When we walked in it was a bit chaotic. There were multiple people waiting to check in and there were several employees standing at the host desk trying to get things in order. We ended up having to wait a couple minutes to be seated, but nothing crazy. If it was more organized, r probably wouldn't have had to wait. Once seated, we were served quickly and all was going well. However, our food took AN HOUR to come out. There were people that came in after us finishing their meals and we hadn't seen ours. Our waiter also eventually noticed this, and apologized and brought us some fruit while we waited. After this, our food showed up 5 minutes. I ordered the chorizo hash, and it was really good!!
