This place was recommended to us endlessly and it fully lived up to the hype. We walked in at opening on a weekday, so it was super quiet, for a while it was just us. We weren't starving as we had early lunch plans and an appt to get to, so initially all we ordered was drip coffee. The staff was so kind about it, complimentary coffee cake is given with the coffee. Then Rex our server who is the most personable and kind human being recommended the short stack of French toast that is not on the menu. He claimed it's the best he's had EVER. And he was not lying. Made with cibbatta bread, it's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, not soggy or too eggy, the butter adds a touch of saltiness and the syrup is so yummmm. Would come again just for the French toast. But Rex, who is a gem, chatted with us and gave us so many good Chicago recs. The service is just amazing. Great place. Can't wait to return. Cash only? In this economy?! I am kidding about feigning my outrage, but not the Cash-only nature of Tweet. They have an ATM, but plan ahead if you don't want to pay the fees. Overall, there is a lot to like: there is a free slice of cake presented when you're seated, and a cup of fruit included with breakfast. While some of the fruit was sliced a little close to the rind, I have no complaints about either, especially with the cake being homemade. This isn't just a matter of not looking a gift-horse in the mouth, but also about both being genuinely good (though not mind blowing). For my mains, I ordered the French Toast with a side of bacon. It was awesome that I was asked my preference for crisp vs soft bacon, and I asked for it in between. True to form, I received bacon which was somewhere down the middle, while closer to soft, I am going to choose to not split hairs. The French Toast was okay. It is thick, honkin' slices of Ciabatta, dipped in custard and pan fried. A respectable iteration, especially after a 'healthy' amount of maple syrup and butter. However, it lacked that magic a truly superb French Toast has, where the inside is soft and chewy, and the outside lightly crisp. Ciabatta has a little too much bulk for that. A highlight of the experience was actually the service. Despite being fairly busy, the food came out fast. Everyone was very friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The service staff also worked together as a team to deliver excellent service, rather than have one person handle everything for a certain area. The vibe is very unique, in that as more and more places go for simple, bland, and sometimes minimalist interiors, here there is more art than wall! I may not love all of it, and I am not asking for prints of anything, but it's nicer than staring at blankness. Final verdict: Tweet has many good things going for it: an artful vibe, included cake and fruit, and a menu that works for all sorts of diets. They also excel in providing excellent service. This local gem is in the same space as the bar Big Chicks. Think decadent brunch by day and neighborhood gay bar, that's hella inclusive, by night. I'm seriously always surprised at the breadth of the menu selections for brunch compared to the pub food offered during bar hours. They have outdoor patios in the front and back, and they always have well-maintained restrooms, excellent service, delicious food, and a fantastic beverage selection. We're talking great coffee, Bloody Marys, and a pitcher of mimosas for all your drinking options. I've easily come here 3x a year for brunch, mostly to impress people visiting from out of town. The wait tends to move fast, and the team prevents immediate hangry-ness by always offering a small "amuse bouche," aka a bite of a pastry, when you sit down. This restaurant felt right at home. As soon as we walked in, they offered a place for our huge winter coats. Immediately after being seated, our waiter was ready to take drinks. I got the ecstasy virgin Bloody Mary and HOT DAMN literally one of my favorite I've ever had. If you like spice, get it! Portions were huge, I got country Benedict. My husband and I came here for brunch on our day off (Tuesday NYE) and it was a great choice! I was looking for a brunch spot in the neighborhood and was happy to find that the pumpkin pancakes were gluten free (my husband has celiacs). They were incredibly accommodating to my husbands gluten allergy. First they served these cute little coffee cakes pre-meal and my husband's was gf. I've been living in Uptown for the past year and a half and have been meaning to come here, however I don't often eat out for breakfast food so I wasn't necessarily in a rush to come here either. My friend and I went for a coffee and long walk, and then walked by here while we were hungry so we decided we should stop and try. She said she's been there once before and liked it so I had high hopes. Long story short - we were disappointed. She ordered the chilaquiles red salsa and I got the breakfast burrito (meat lovers option with chorizo, bacon, etc). We both found out food to be lacking flavor. It just straight up was just not that good! Maybe we ordered the wrong things? I'm not sure! While our server was friendly, she forgot to bring us our check after we asked for it, and then saw us again and said she'd be back with it and then disappeared for like 10 minutes! We weren't in a hurry, but we also were ready to leave so that was a little annoying. Lastly, they are cash only which in my opinion is outdated. We did not have cash on hand nor realized they were cash only so we had to use the ATM in the next room... which I absolutely hate doing because no one likes getting charged to take your own money out. Went for brunch a while back and it was a great experience. They are cash only so putting that upfront. There was a bit of a wait. We sat on the patio. Beware of the yellowjackets! They are great company but if you are the only people on the patio they swarm lol. The reason I take a star is purely because the champagne cocktail I ordered with brunch was not great. Like most city brunch places the champagne is cheap. The food was excellent though and had great portions. They bring out a sweet bread pastry when you are sat to stave off some hunger. When they seat you, they give you a free piece of cinnamon coffee cake which is delicious. Their menu is large and there's many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. I can't eat meat, so this was especially nice for me. I got the vegetarian biscuits and gravy which was very heavy but very delicious. I got it thinking I'd need a side to fill me up but nope. I was a little disappointed it didn't have as much salsa in proportion to the chips, as some chips did not have any. The eggs were also decent as well, a little over cooked. Everything else was there and overall it was a decent dish. I loved the side of fruit that came with it, that was so cute and the fruit was fresh. My friends got the eggs benedict and a breakfast burrito, and my oh my they looked so ever tasty. They enjoyed their food a lot. The service was quick, as our food did not take long to come out, and our waiter was on top of things. In the year of our lord 2022, after a worldwide pandemic, they still remain cash only. So either bring paper money or your bank card to use the ATM near the door. My favorite item is the chilaquiles. It may be the only thing I've ever had here, to be honest, because I love chilaquiles and it's not something you find at every brunch place. They put like an ridiculous amount of cilantro as garnish as well and the orange chunk isn't necessary but hey it's easy to pull it off. Seating can be super tight, at least inside. They do have outside seating in the warm months. Tweet might just be my favorite brunch spot in the city. It's got a homey down to earth vibe and everything tastes homemade. This isn't your generic diner food! Everything I've had is absolutely delicious and it's really a great spot for gluten-free folks like me. I particularly love getting their Benedicts because those are so rarely available with gluten-free English muffins. I admit that the GF English muffins can get a bit spongy/mushy but that's pretty common so I can't blame them. I love that when you're seated, you're given a tasty little breakfast cake (with a vegan & gluten free version - yay!). Most meals are served with a bowl of fresh fruit or warm compote which I always love. Even on busy days, I've only ever waited maybe 20-30 minutes. Service is super speedy too.
