The Breakfast Shack = breakfast comfort food. They are a straight-forward egg place with hours from 7 am to 2 pm. What they lack in table refinement, they more than make up in folksy, homespun atmosphere (you should spend the time and read the various wall art). On the weekend we had breakfast, there was a line forming at the 7 am opening. They can get busy so plan accordingly. We went simple this morning. Eggs, hash browns and wheat toast. The eggs and hash browns were cooked to order. BUT the toast had REAL butter on it. I know I shouldn't have, but I shouldn't have eggs either, but it's the weekend and it was well worth it! We also had the vegetarian omelet. While I'm not a big omelet fan, this was good. It was a good sized omelet and should fill up most people. I came here on a Sunday for the first time after running the Run Through Redlands Half Marathon earlier in the morning. The place was absolutely packed inside with a lot of people waiting outside. I guess that was a good sign. I thought since I was dining solo that I would be able to skip that line and get a seat at the counter. No dice since they were using the counter to seat groups as well. After about a 45 minute wait, I was finally seated at the counter. As I was seated, I was greeted by the waitress and given a menu. I started things off with coffee. I ordered my favorite breakfast food item, their steak and eggs. I got the steak cooked medium rare and the eggs, sunny-side up. For my sides, I got their country potatoes and biscuit & gravy. The alternatives for sides were hash brown and toast. I think I made the right call as both were really good, especially their biscuit & gravy! Overall, the food was definitely worth the wait and the service was also fantastic. They kept my mug full of coffee the entire time that I was there. I don't usually find myself in Redlands except for this race. However, I just might have to make a stop here if I'm driving through the area around breakfast time. Found this place while running errands in Redlands and it hit the spot. My husband and I wanted brunch and luckily, this was nearby. It has a cute, country vibe to it with fun decor inside. We went on a Wednesday, walked in and waited about 15 mins before being sat down. There were few tables open and they let us choose which one we wanted to sit at. Only downside was that the place didn't have alot of room so the tables were very close to each other. Our food came out fairly quick after ordering, and the plates were a good size. Neither of us were able to finish our plates and wished we just shared a plate instead of getting our own. Overall, the biscuit and gravy plates were really good. My husband loved his orange juice as well. The ladies there were super friendly and welcoming to customers. I would come back here if I was in the area again! read more

Amada is the rudest restaurant server I have ever encountered. Her entire tone and demener is hateful. She walks around stuck up and entitled and cant be bothered to smile. I came in 2 weeks ago with my boyfriend who had just had a very paintful root canal. We sat down and started ordering. Amanda decided to argue with me over the fact that the Breakfast Shack never had a Belgian waffel with fresh berries on the menu. I know for a fact they did. It was what I had ordered the first time I had ever eaten there years ago and I remembered clearly what I got. Amanda had to say twice..."No we never had that". And she did so with a know-it-all attitude. My boyfriend started to experrience severe pain after we ordered and we suddenly had to get up and leave. Upon tellling Amanda of his pain, instead of sympathizing, she said, "So what you have to cancel your order now?". Like I was putting her out. I told her that no I would like to get the order to go and she still thought I was trying to cancel. While paying, I asked another waitress what Amanda's problem was. I told this waitsress that Amanda was very rude and seemed very upset that I was changing my order status to to-go. This girl was equally rude and stuck up for Amanda saying that she wasn't upset at all. I said you can tell by her hostilitiy and tone that she is mad. At this point I worried about my food getting spit on because both Amanda and this girl took off to the kitchen. I spoke to a third waitress and told her of the 2 other womens' behavior. This waitress was understading and went to check on my order. Amanda has no business working in customer service. She singlehandedly scared me away from ever coming here again. I have talked to a few friends since my visit and they are aware of Amanda and her attitude. She has no customer service or empathy. She walks around with a obvious vane attitude and like she just wants to pick a fight. She clearly hates people and her job. I was going through a tramitizing morning with my boyfriend and his pain. It's hard not to compare this place to Carolyn's Café, which is why it lost one star. The food is decent for what you would expect for a breakfast diner. There aren't as many options as Carolyn, but what they have covers all the staples. I haven't had the pancakes here yet, but those looked really good. They were big and golden at the table next to us. The coffee wasn't strong enough for me. I'd go back, but probably more out of convenience than to go there specifically for their food. read more

Before you sit down they will ask you what you want to drink and those get out quick. The cafe has a traditional American feel. They have an outdoor patio in case you want to bring your dog. Keep in mind the patio is small so if you want to bring your dog, be mindful you'll have to wait longer. Place can get a bit loud, but that's part of the experience. The food was good. After a night of debauchery in San Bernardino, we were seeking a place that served a hearty and delicious breakfast for champions. Boy did they deliver! Boyfriend and I each got our own "The State ST" omelette with biscuit covered in gravy. WOW it's a huge portion (took home half to eat another day). It is jam packed with cheese, veggies, and hugee pieces of bacon & sausages...not dinky little bits like most omelettes served. Add in some salsa, hot sauce, and ketchup...wow. Amazing service and such a great positive vibe in this restaurant. I love the Americana decor too. Stacey was the perfect host - so beautifully friendly. The food was really good and piping HOT when brought to the table (a simple detail that is often overlooked). I really appreciate how hot and fresh everything tasted. My husband and I shared chicken fried steak, eggs, & the biscuits and gravy. We also had to try to buttermilk pancakes. The biscuits were tender and fluffy and the gravy was very flavorful. This is a solid breakfast place. My partner and I came here around 8:30am and didn't have to wait to be seated. By 9, there was a decent size group of people waiting outside. Orders: Hatch Chili Eggs Benedict : This was my favorite of the 2 dishes we ordered. the eggs were served over a bed of pulled pork and chilis. The yolks broke perfectly and the whole thing had a nice spicy kick to it. I'd def order again. It also came with some hashbrowns. Veggie Scramble: Standard veggie scramble with cheese. It came with some toast and hashbrowns. Nothing too special. The coffee was just okay for how expensive it was - probably wouldn't order that again and just have my coffee at home. Note about the hashbrowns: Even though I ordered them extra crispy, they weren't very crisp and were kind of mushy in the middle. BUT it didn't taste bad, so it was fine. I think next time I'll ask for them to be a little burnt - just a preference. The portions sizes were generous. I feel like I left with a full meal in a to-go box even though they were just my leftovers. In terms of logistics, there was street and lot parking. I can see this being a problem for some people, as the place did get super busy and there weren't many spots outside. The staff was friendly and provided efficient service.
