If you go here and only try one (1) thing, get a beer. If you go here and want to get two (2) things; Get the Pretzel! The large- big pretzel is tasty and fun! It is as big as 3 people's heads, and that tends to be the size group I share it with! The pretzel is prepped really well and is hot & fresh, and very soft. And, it comes with a white-cheddar dipping sauce and a hot-wasabi like-mustard dipping sauce. They are both really good. Again, it is fun to order and share with people. I also like how they have their beers on tap split up by beers actually brewed in that building & location separated from beers on tap, but brewed at the Dekum or International Way sites. Breakside Brewery has a really nice patio on the west-side of the building, so that makes this place even better. Amazing local spot to gather with some friends and have a beer. There's always something new on tap alongside some classic originals to ensure that there's a beer for everyone on the menu. The food is always super fresh and comes out relatively quick. Don't skip the blue cheese fries! If you don't get them as an appetizer, be sure to get them as you're side. My only complaint is it seems they may have cut the portion size of the Buffalo chicken wrap. It's one of the only ones in the city that has grilled chicken instead of fried and tastes super healthy. Just wish it was slightly bigger in size because it's so tasty. read more

THIS JOINT! This was probably my favourite spot we went to on our trip to Portland two weeks ago for a number of reasons that they hit out of the park! First off, decor is fab. Plants are everything and I loved their interior foliage mixed with the big old wooden style picnic benches and big tap bar. The outside mural was also so sick! The beer was real TASTY! I got the Strawberry Sparkler which basically would be what I would call a beer if I had one and it was so refreshing. Didn't have that fake strawberry taste, it's made with au natural ingredients and you can certainly tell. My bf got a flight with a bunch of different brews I couldn't tell ya all of them but he enjoyed them thoroughly. The food looked insanely good and it made me so hungry but we had just eaten so I didn't wanna push it but I regret not ordering something to this day. The Mac and cheese looked so creamy - I pretty much eyed everyone else's plates. The patio is killer, we chilled and chatted out here for about 2 hours enjoying the heat but not in direct sunlight, it was perfect. Price fair for the drinks. They had a brut IPA that's worth getting. Also got their stout and it was good. Their nachos are big enough to share for 2-3 people. It was also delicious. I think the only downfall was the construction across the street while I was there because there was an awful smell coming from it and I really wanted to sit outside since it was a nice day. read more

We've been by three times in the last two weeks and this place has a definite following. Why? Because the beer is top notch! It's all about the beer, first. There are currently about 15 brews on tap with six brewed on site. We did the sampler and liked it. Our go to beer for the last 2 1/2 years is the flagship IPA, just a well-balanced IPA, in the West Coast style. Happy hour pints $4. Really like the brew pub layout, very fluid from the downstairs to the upstairs mezzanine overlooking the bar and restaurant below. As well, we can get food on the mezzanine or look over into the brewing lab. I really feel connected "convivially" with the crowd from upstairs to downstairs. Just an overall good vibe---typical industrial look with cement floors and big shinny HVAC ducting, copper hanging dome lights with a nice touch of wall color, murial including some tributes to PDX sports and early city history. By summer they plan to add a roof deck facing west, out to the hills and Forest Park and the setting sun. Color me there, baby! Overall the food was scrumptious and plated to get the grub juices salivating before digging in. Like the chilled crab with asparagus, southwest steak salad and the street steak tostadas. I was impressed with this place. Came with a group of 150 that rented out the whole place. We were greeted with delicious drinks and tasty passed appetizers. We had chosen a starter and entree beforehand, so that made things go pretty smoothly. Serving 150 people at once is no easy feat, but they did a really good job. My salmon was cooked perfectly and people around me seemed to really enjoy their meals as well. The space was great, open and big with a nice upstairs area. I loved the open garage doors and patio. I love Breakside beer! While in town I decided to visit this location as well as Dekum. While Dekum had the standard go-to Breakside beers, Slabtown had several different beers. This space is totally cool, from the outdoor patio to the large bar downstairs and upstairs hangout. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the beer was fantastic! We tried the nachos this time and it was large and very good. I got a flight of six beers to try several new beers. My wife got the What Peaches and What Penumbras sour beer and thought it was the best sour she had while in Portland. I have to say I enjoyed this location more than the Dekum spot and would love to try the taphouse next time I'm in town. This location was super fun!! read more

Very spacious interior with exterior seating (when its warm) and ample amounts of parking (unlike the breweries in the Pearl). Beer selections are varied enough for any palette (fruity, hoppy, crisp, etc.) and the accompanying food is tasty. The ginormous pretzel has a crisp outer shell and doughy inside. Its the best restaurant pretzel I've had. The tuna melt (which is a first come, first serve basis thing) is smaller than I expected, but tasty. The only negative is that its not fully heated through, so some parts of the tuna/english muffin are cold. This is a must check out if you're into the brew scene! read more

I went to Breakside with a large group of friends last weekend and sat outside for dinner. We got cider flights and appetizers. I got the vegetarian nachos and vegan spring rolls which were both great and super filling! My friends ordered the jalapeño poppers which they really did not like. Besides that, all of the food was really good! The young girls who were hosting that night (Friday Oct 4th) were very rude but our waiter was really nice. I'll definitely be back! We came in on an Wednesday evening and were having beers with friends. The manager came out to tell us about last call about 10 minutes before 9. We had a beer and ordered another beer at 8:55 before closing, the app that Breakside is using did not send it through. We asked for it to be looked at it and asked where our beers were at 9:15, we were told the manager would come out. She came out around 9:20 and told us we could not be served because the cutoff was 9pm. Keep this in mind if you come here in the evening and are sitting outside/using the app to order, you may not get your beer and the manager cannot do anything to accommodate you if the app makes a mistake. read more

Breakside has many attributes, but I have to draw the line at charging $1.00 for a tiny plastic cup of "extra dressing" when your huge chicken nugget pieces and fries come with the one tiny plastic cup of ranch dressing. It just isn't enough! So when you mention "can I have extra since what is provided isn't an ample amount for the food" the server brings 2, and I'm charged $2.00...!?!! No way can this be fair to your customer, so I'm hoping with this review, Scott reads this and starts providing a realistic ranch volume of dressing. 'Nuf said, ball in! read more

This is a wonderful brewery located in the fun and lively area of Slabtown. I love breweries that also have amazing food. This is definitely one of those breweries. They have a very spacious interior but also a lovely outdoor heated patio area too. You can either order at the bar or scan a QR code from your table to order online. We scanned the QR code to order online which was very. There was so many drink and food options to choose from. The food and drinks were delivered to our table quickly with very little wait. The pretzel is a must order, it is definitely one of the best soft pretzels I have ever tasted. And they provide two delicious dipping sauces- a gourmet mustard and gouda cheese. I really loved the flavor of the mustard and cheese. Now on to the sandwiches- wow they are perfectly made, Our choices were made with tasty hoagie and demi baguette style breads. The chicken marinara sandwich is outstanding. It is made with a blend of 4 types of cheeses including gruyere, parmesan, Swiss and Cheddar. The fire Roasted marinara sauce adds exceptional flavor as well. The BBQ pulled pork sandwich was also outstanding. I especially loved the tender juicy pork, the house made barbeque sauce, and the pepperjack cheese. And of course they have a very good variety of beers, cider and even some creative cocktails! Stood outside in the cold waiting for a table and we got passed up several times...eventually we had to decide to leave. This kind of stuff happens. So it wasn't personal. But when the young blond girl at the front counter says "sorry...it happens...and you're still 3rd in the list" after you've been waiting 90 min and watching others who arrived after you get seated, it's an opportunity for some training. At least say I'll get you seated as soon as I can..grab a manager and explain the situation, or make SOME effort at service resolution. A fantastic brewery which was perfect for a lunchtime stop. Our party of eight was seated very quickly and the food was incredibly tasty. We ordered the Stumptown flight, which had six small tasting-sized beers -- my personal favorites were 3 and 5! We got the large pretzel to share, which was served warm and it was light and fluffy. I also got the mac and cheese, which was really improved by the roasted veggies! The onion rings were also perfectly crunchy and tasted really good with the dipping sauces. read more

Delicious beer and prompt, friendly service. The tofu was different from what I've had. It was breaded and fried so maybe that's it. It was delicious but not as healthy-tasting as I like. The soft pretzel was huge. We had a large group with a little bit of chaos and they got our order right. The outside seating is pleasant and dog-friendly. The server who helped me pick out a souvenir tshirt was wonderful. The only issue, and it was a big one, is that someone decided to have a kids birthday party (4 years old?) outside at the restaurant. It would have been fine and excusable if the kids were having fun and being a little noisy, but the adults were egging them on to get wild and even facilitating a game of duck duck goose in the middle of the aisle. They left a huge mess and were disrespectful to other customers, treating the place like a Chuck E. Cheese or a public park. The waitstaff did their best but maybe should have done more. I've been here a few times and have always really liked this place. They have great beer with a vibrant atmosphere. I always sit at the bar, and the bartenders are fantastically friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite snack to get is the tofu lettuce wraps. They have a new recipe now which is good, but I miss their spicy version. Went here for lunch on a Friday with a couple friends. Great beer, and food was quite good. It's the ordering process that's a bit of a downer. You scan a QR code, log in (or create an account first), then scroll through a very long list to pick the items you want, and submit your order. Several minutes later your food gets unceremoniously delivered. I understand the staffing issue a lot of places have, but this is too impersonal. You do have the option of ordering at the bar. One good thing about the online process is that checkout is easy. There are a couple outdoor patios, but the main one is almost completely enclosed, which from a Covid safety perspective doesn't seem safe at all. read more

Holy cow, what an impressive space these guys have carved out. Real estate is not cheap right around here, either, so what they've done here is even more of a feat. They have a huge patio, big dining room, and upstairs spaces all in one location. It's pretty big even by restaurant standards; compared to the average brewery taproom, it's pretty huge. (of course, given the activity of the beer scene in Portland, there are a few breweries in town with even bigger spaces). It's just gorgeous. Beautiful wood surfaces indoors and out, tons of sturdy tables and chairs indoors and out. There are nice spaces carved off--booths with banquette seating, lots of tables and chairs upstairs. Tons of TVs, probably showing the game, everywhere inside. There's a big bar in back with stools. Full bar with cocktails. The staff are nice; they know their menus well and they're friendly and cheerful. Service outside was a little cheeba-scented and occasionally forgetful, but very upbeat and likeable. No complaints here. We tried a bunch of different beers, all of which were clean and dynamic and well-made with clear flavors and aromas. We didn't happen to find one superstar beer this time, but we've all tried tons of Breakside beers and loved them for a long time. If we lived closer, we'd all be in here a lot. We didn't dig in to the food on this particular stop, but we've heard rave reviews from people we know and trust. Given how nice everything was, we're looking forward to coming back for foods and more beers. read more

I really like spending time in here. On the upper level. Likes: The vibe is super cool inside the building, particularly on the second floor. The servers are always really nice and fun and engaging. The wings are super delicious. The beers are above average and tasty. Dislikes: Parking is a nightmare if you come on a weekend. The reuben was ugh; dry corned beef, what I assume was wine vinegar sauerkraut (way too bright and tart), and the Russian dressing was weak. And there are always tons of screaming children downstairs and on the patio. It would be rad if they just made the entire upstairs a child-free zone.
