I love this place so much! We made sure to get there right at open because seating is limited. We were seated at the bar and had a lovely conversation with the mixologists in between drinks. They were knowledgeable and answered all of our questions with a smile :) At one point I couldn't makeup my mind, so she asked me what flavor profiles I like and she whipped up the perfect cocktail. Love the dark, cozy, intimate feel - perfect for a date night.

This was our second visit and our opinion of this sweet little speak easy remains the same. Outstanding service. Wonderful atmosphere. Delicious drinks and food. It's a tiny place, so be prepared to wait. We highly recommend a visit.

Grandma is keeping a hell of a secret here because this place is not to be missed. We came in for a weekend night and were seated after a slight wait. The space is small so it can only accommodate smaller groups and only so many people at a time , which can be an issue if you are with a bigger party. We started with a round of Saigon Old fashioned`s for our group and I chose The diplomat. The drinks were excellent and we also ordered the chicken Banhmi to go with it . The Banhmi was one of the best I have had in the city and my husband seemed to agree. The place is done up eclectically and was just right for Halloween weekend. The staff were very sweet and fun to interact with and went over and beyond to ensure we had a good time.

I have been twice now, and both times were lovely! The vibe inside was speakeasy, and low-key. I like the low lights, and it was warm. Everyone who assisted us was great, and I want to do a shoutout to Piske y Ryn. Both of them were attentive, helpful, and Piske made delicious drinks. I highly recommend coming here, and will be coming back.

Cozy basement bar with great atmosphere and a list of creative drinks with a Vietnamese twist on old favorites. Also a great list of Vietnamese-inspired snacks. The Saigon Old Fashioned was solid. Service was great!

Whenever my sister and I travel together to new cities, we love finding speakeasies to go to! One of the ones we've found and loved was Grandmas Secret. It was also special to us as this is a Vietnamese speakeasy w/ Vietnamese seasoning and dishes that we've grown up eating and loving. Upon entering to the speakeasy, it's located on the side of the pho shop w/ the blue light. Some might be curious to enter through but on the top right corner, it states bar lol. I would take a pic but then it defeats the purpose of a speakeasy heh lol. It's a pretty small space but very intimate. From the amount of people that the space is allowed to have, it's hard to gauge approximately when a seat will open up but we like it here, we wait until a table is open for us. The waitresses there are quick, attentive and make great drinks. They do have a small menu which I like because then they can continue to perfect each drink instead of having a big menu. I ordered my usual which was the 23rd Parallel. It was a great margarita topped w/ muoi ot on the rim which translates to chili salt. Growing up, we had chili salt on all of our fruit. It was salty and spicy which is the perfect salt to put on the rim for margaritas IN MY OPINION. My sister ordered the El Geronimo, it was a bit strong for me but was not TOO STRONG where I only tasted alcohol. This was smooth and refreshing. My bf had ordered the Le Colonial & that too was refreshing. You can taste the alcohol but it did not become TOO STRONG. This time, we had a chance to chat w/ the owner, Dat. He was so nice to talk to, very friendly and funny. He explained the story behind Grandma's Secret. Above I mentioned how others are willing to wait to sit down, drink and chat w/ their friends & that's exactly what the owner Dat was going for. He stated that he wanted this to be a space where people can sit together, have some good drinks and chill. When you go to bars, people are crowded and standing around others, it doesn't make that the best place to be at times. I for one, don't like being in crowded areas. But in Grandmas secret, it's very chill and relaxed. Overall, expect a great vibe and great drinks from Grandma's Secret. This will always be on our go to places whenever we visit Portland :)

I don't remember the name but it has a lychee taste

Great vibe in this intimate, moody lit bar. Cocktails were terrific. Had some tasty bites at the bar. Will definitely go again.

Speakeasy vibes. Small and dark. Good place for a quiet date but not for a group. Good cocktails. Mocktails were not good.

What a lovely spot for brunch! My partner and I stopped in here while walking up and down 23rd and…read more21st. The interior is attractive and very modern, and there is a large covered and heated patio if you prefer to sit outside (we did). The service was a little bit slow, but not egregious and the server was very friendly. The menu is not extensive, but it has good variety and everything on it looked excellent. All of their ingredients seem high-quality, and they have a number of gluten-free and vegetarian offerings. I ended up getting the eggs benedict, which came with a little salad. The salad was fresh, not wilted, and came with a light vinaigrette. The eggs benedict was absolutely stellar-- perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise, and grilled halloumi to give some well-received brine to the bite, all atop an english muffin. For the price point and the quality, the portions are good. My one wish was that I could have subbed my salad for some of their potatoes! My partner got the pork belly hash, and thought that the potatoes were cooked perfectly-- crispy and well-seasoned. He did notice that there were only a few pieces of pork in the dish, but we chalked this up to the ingredient quality. We ended up staying for Happy Hour, which was fun! We got the fries with garlic aioli (so good!) and I ordered their daily cocktail special, a margarita. They gave me a good, heavy, pour, which is always appreciated. Great brunch spot if you want to go somewhere a little chic.

We got the Benedicts - one with ham and one with halloumi. Both were great and I just loved the colorful greens salad on the side. The tart dressing paired so well with the rich bechamel sauce and yolky eggs. For drinks, we got one of the espresso martini month specials - the tiramisutini. It was a more unique take on the espresso martini and I loved the slightly tangy mascarpone cream on top. It's definitely in my top 3 of the month. We also tried their delicious west coffee cocktail, served hot with some delicious oat whipped cream. Service was great and friendly. It was pretty busy the entire time we were here on a Sunday. We had reservations which may or may not have been needed but it seemed like a good idea. The bar is very cute. Overall I would definitely come back for another brunch or in the evening for drinks and dinner/snack!

They are genuinely happy. I've been here maybe a dozen times in the last two years, and the serving crew is always top notch. The cocktails are consistently great too. So, that goes a long way for repeat business! The food is usually excellent, and a recent brunch was outstanding (see pics). Occasionally, there has been a near miss with too much salt on the Brussels sprouts or other minor infraction like that. All in all, it has displaced Serrato as my "go to" to meet up with friends. I've only eaten outside, so I have no idea what the inside experience is like. Outside, it's a sheltered patio with heaters if needed and a few small tables against the building as well. Bonus for this area in general is that it's a great place to walk around and window shop, and it's relatively close to the Japanese and Rose Gardens (by car).

That said, my experience wasn't perfect. I was accidentally charged the wrong price for my Mexican lager, and it was difficult to get the bartender's attention to have it corrected. It was a busy afternoon since it was the holiday weekend and the day before the Fourth of July, so I understand they had a lot going on. Overall, I still enjoyed my visit and think it's a charming place. I just hope the pricing is a little more accurate and the service is a bit more attentive next time.

Parking in NW isn't the easiest but it says something that everyone in my group found parking within the same block. It is a pretty busy part of town, lots of foot traffic, and lots of traffic traffic. Buses and ambulances and police cars. It reminded me a bit of these old books I read as a kid, Richard Scarys Busy World (iykyk). Anyway, back to the bar - there is a decent amount of seating outside as well as indoors. The server promptly brought us menus and, although everything has to be ordered at the bar, he still comes by several times while we ate dinner and had drinks out front. My friends order Fish & Chips, and I'm told they are some of the best in the area. Everything was crispy and well seasoned. I got the taco salad with came with the house chili instead of taco meat - it is really pretty good! I even get a side of extra chippies to go with my meal. The portion was a little skimp, I think, considering most of this dish consists of lettuce. If only they would add more to it and turn this sucker into a big ole dish, this salad could be awesome!
