I decided to check this place out after it was referred to me by some friends. I am truly grateful to have such good friends to recommend such a superb establishment. The food here was phenomenal and the portions were humongous. Definitely a bang for your buck. Also, it is a brewery so let's not forget about the beers. They have an excellent collection of delicious beers that I guarantee will knock your socks off. Another thing I liked was how they had variety so there was something different for everyone to enjoy. The ambience of this establishment was pretty relaxed and just a tad noisy. The service was fantastic and continuously checks up on you to make sure you don't feel forgotten about. The restaurant is always packed, but worth a few minutes wait. I've always had great food here, and the patio is one of my favorites in the Summer months. While visiting Portland, my husband and I were trying to decide which brewery to try out. Many of the locals we spoke to said to try Breakside brewery because it's where all the locals go and you get a very authentic feel of the neighborhood. It was in a cute little town outside of the city where the locals live, and it did not disappoint. I am not a big fan of beer, but my husband loved the IPAs. I tried both of their ciders which were delicious as well as their appetizers and sandwiches. It was not your ordinary bar food. Real cool space, especially on a nice day. Awesome beer selection that is constantly changing. I had a White IPA that was real good. They also carry really good Guest taps. The menu has quite the variety. I went with the Swordfish tacos. The swordfish came out as a whole filet and it was a "Build your own taco" type deal. I found the swordfish to be a bit dry and I was a bit disappointed. My sister in law had the Mac & Cheese which looked really good. I'm a fan of the actual brew-pub (the set up with the huge circular tables, lots of room to move around, etc), the food (not many vegetarian options, but the grilled portobello burger was fantastic - and they do NOT skimp on the fries, i actually wish they would have given me less), and the beer selection (I think they had a wide variety including some from gilgamesh brewing, which always brews up a storm. I came here on a lazy Saturday afternoon with a couple friends and got a game of settler's in with a burger and drink - I call it a good time. I find that it's a bit out of the way for me, and I could find something very similar in the SE, but if I was living in the neighborhood I'd come often. read more

I went here for dinner with a group this past Saturday. First off - I love this neighborhood where they are located. Driving here I found more places that I want to come back to and check out. I was amazed that they are kid friendly. We had 2 toddlers and a baby in our crew. The service was friendly and fast!! I ordered the passion fruit sour beer. It was perfectly balanced and flavorful. Like - local dudes who like beer making bunch of brews and experimenting. Could be better - my impression was that it's "old" and not edgy like some of the cooler brew houses in the area. Breakside is a quality spot to stop in and grab some brews if you're in NE Portland. Tap list is about 10 deep and it includes some high ABV aged brews, sours, IPAs and a litany of other selections. I went with some of the sours and IPAs and they hit the spot. The pomegranate gose was a highlight for me - this is a popular style at the moment and their take of it with the the red fruit and juiciness was really enjoyable. Didn't have any food on this visit but the menu looked promising. As with most Portland watering holes, the bartenders were cordial and really helpful in selections. In addition to viewing the menu on your phone, you also order and pay via the phone. And you bus your own tables. If they maintain any of this after COVID, I hope it's just the ability to view the menu on your phone. Add descriptions of the beers. You're a brewery. People want to know what they're trying. Loved this brewery! First is all the corner location in this cute neighborhood is perfect for sitting outside and people watching or just utilizing the location to stop at several swanky joints. Once inside the brewery the atmosphere is hip yet relaxed with a rustic vibe. I walked in to meet someone for a first date and instantly felt at ease like I'd also be fine dining alone and just chatting with the people around me. I got the taster platter of beer which came with 3 year round beers and 3 seasonal beers. Several great beers, but I loved the smooth taste of the Alt so I ordered another once my sampler platter was through. With so many amazing looking dishes on the menu it was hard to pick just one, but the buffalo chicken nachos stood out to me and they didn't not disappoint.. It was like a party of so many delicious flavors with every single bite! I am looking forward to going back to this place and trying more food and enjoying more tasty brews. read more

Every aspect of that whole dining experience was horrible. Why is she asking me about a mask as she goes to ever customers table and pulls her mask down to have a conversation with them not to serve them but to sit down and talk to her friends. Also she had the nerve to say I'm not gonna help him pay his bill obviously she doesn't own the place because she doesn't understand that's how business works is taking my money. Beer was good. Lots of unique options to choose from. I had the veggie bowl and it was pretty tasty - also very different, which was much better than always having to choose from the same vegetarian options. My boyfriend had the blackened chicken sandwich, which he said was delicious, just needed some green chilis! The only downfall was that the place is pretty tight and was jam packed. The tables go right up to the door, and unfortunately that's where we got sat. It was a freezing night, so every time the door opened we were blasted with a gust of cold air. Having to eat dinner with our jackets on is really my only complaint. The service was also great. This place has very good beers on tap BUT despite it being a brewery, the FOOD outshined the beer in my opinion. Not that the beer isn't exceptional, but the food is just that AMAZING!!! I had the blessing of making the great decision of ordering the pork belly sandwich. Grant it, not the healthiest of options but you're not the boss of me damnit! This sandwich was just STUPID GOOD!!! Don't be a dummy, just order it and thank me later. My wife had a seared ahi sandwich that I got to have a few bites of too and that is also definitely worth trying. Obviously the beer is excellent, let's just get that out of the way. We got here around 6 and had to get on the waiting list for a table (for 4). The wait we were told world be aboot 20-30 mins. It was actually aboot 15, so that was nice. Our service was very good. Drinks never got to the point of empty before we were asked if we wanted another. The food was hot when delivered, starting with the jalapeno poppers. They were good, but the peppers could have been roasted a touch longer. Very tasty with some heat otherwise. The omnivore Mac n Cheese, which I had was very rich. The veggies and meat added to the basic Mac was excellent. My lady friend got the pork belly sandwich sans the bread. Really great pork belly. Done just right. The Reuben pastrami sammich got rave reviews. Great taste with great bread. The tuna sammich was good, but was a touch overcooked. Flavor was great tho. Everything we got tasted exactly the same. Burger, fries, fry sauce, poppers, bbq, beer. It's like they use the same magic sauce on everything. Description: it tastes like a combination of truffle oil and the scraps from a sausage factory mixed with old leather shoe soles. Every time I've gone here (3xs) we've had to wait for forever to get anyone to come to our table. And we're pretty cool...I mean...people like us and we're easy, don't have any "allergies" and tip well (even with horrendous service like this). Last time (couple months ago) it took us over an hour to get our meal...The couple after us got their appetizers before someone even came over to ask us for our DRINK order. Maybe they only serve their closest friends? Or those with beards? Either way, service sucks and food is mediocre at best. I'm definitely not growing a beard to get good service. It wouldn't be becoming. I'm only reviewing it now because I drove by it today and grimaced in past frustration. Maybe now I'll feel like I've done my part in bringing justice to the culinary world. Simply put, I've been here several times and each time have left happy. I enjoy the outdoor seating area and I love their cheeseburger although it (and the pub food in general at Breakside) was a bit pricey. The smoked chipotle tomato soup was good and a nice surprise too. Beer wise, the woodlawn pale ale and IPA are solid and my top picks. The staff has always been friendly and professional when I've been there and although Breakside is a bit out of the way for me to visit, but the quality of the beer will definitely bring me back. read more

The chipotle tomato soup is awesome and has a special kick that you're sure to remember. Their pork belly sandwich with jalapeño slaw had the perfect combination of sweet and heat. With all of these jalapeño filled dishes the only thing to make your mouth feel better is to coat it with some nice cold beers that are the restaurant specialty. This is our local pub and it's a great place to hang out. Very pleasant outside area for outdoor dining). Their beer is great and super cheap (even to go), their food is tasty and high quality (I especially like their pretzel, chicken tenders and tuna sandwich special) and I even bought a sweatshirt from their display that while a bit expensive, was maybe the comfiest sweatshirt I've had the pleasure of wearing in years. Visited Breakside Dekum last evening, having been there several times before. The food was very good and the beers delicious. But the ordering/payment app that patrons must use is incredibly annoying and interferes with the experience. Have you tried asking the app which of the entrees it prefers? Always great beers, with a solid IPA lineup that never disappoints. I'm usually not a big sweet potato fan, but theirs are quite amazing, just the right amount of crunch and cheese sauce--plus the house-made ketchup---damn tasty. Jalapeno poppers are light on cream cheese, more cheddar and very tasty chorizo. Among the best poppers I've had. Nachos are lots of win, no cheese sauce, and the pulled pork unsurprisingly blows the chicken out of the water. Would even prefer plain nachos over chicken.
