Chicken Tenders? Circa 1984-ish
Helen H.

Bred is the place to be if you want an amazing burger that is cooked exactly the way you want it!! Yet, for those that don't eat meat and wanna order from the same place as your mate be aware. The menu said they have chicken tenders , bet! The picture looks amazing, yet what I received were six tenders that were pulled from the archives of the Oliver Wendell Holmes middle school cafeteria, and blue cheese dressing that tasted like it was in the pantry of said school as well.

Hand Cut Fries

Very stylish space on Main Street with a bar, hightops, lowtops, and even a few couches for lounging. Wings: Smoked and then fried with choice of sauce. Typical size, typical sauce (I chose sweet chili), and very good texture, coming in lightly crisp on the outside and very juicy inside. Would defin itely order again, trying the various sauce options. Monte Carlo Burger: This is a monstrosity and an edible work of art, with two smoked patties (with some thickness to them), two slabs of pork belly (thick, tewnderm, chewy in a good way), two kinds of cheese (cheddar and gouda), onion jam (very sweet), and aioli. Superb bun. Good seasoning. Decent moistness. I definitely enjoyed this but would avoid the onion jam and go for a simpler configuration next time. Hand Cut Fries: Also thick. Struck me as more similar to frozen than hand cut, but pretty good.

Very solid burger spot in Mattapan. I was impressed with the quality and portion sizes. My friend was craving a veggie burger so we ended up here. We really enjoyed the truffle Parmesan fries, the impossible burger, the bred classic burger, and the sorrel drink. The staff was also great, service was fast, and we enjoyed the cozy seating by the window on a rainy day. This felt like a step up from just a quick takeout burger in terms of the quality/taste, which was nice. I would definitely come here again.

Kobe

Only tried one thing but tbh it was pretty weak. The Kobe Chicken sandwich has gochujang sauce, pineapple and aioli. There was a ton of pineapple but the chicken was small and thin so it didn't balance well. What little chicken there was was moist and crunchy. The whole thing was also drowning in the gochujang sauce. Which was very tasty but way over powering, I have no idea what the aioli tasted like or if it was there because of the overpowering of the sauce and pineapple. The bread was also kinda burnt.

Bred Gourmet is located in lower mills section of Dorchester. A foodie I follow recommended the place. Parking: free 2 hour street parking I asked the very friendly and accommodating cashier what are most popular items on the menu; he stated the Cousin Stizz Fries. I could tell they would be delicious because most of the Fries orders were placed afterwards. Cozy seating of a few tables and high table seating. Large TV in the place and games located in the place. We played Connect 4 while we waited for our order: -Cousin Stizz Fries (we shared) Cajun fries topped with spicy sweet chilli. Buttermilk fried chicken. Chipolte Aoli and scallions. -Hambuger with full trimmings -Kodak BLAT: chicken sand. w/avocado. Applewood bacon. Served on a ciabatta bun -Honey chicken & waffles -Beignets with nutella for desset was chef's kiss and Star of the show!! I asked my family what 2 words describe our lunch: "Epic Foods" "Crispingly Delicious" "Tasty Bar-Foods" If I could give Bred double stars I would. Thank you Bred Gourmet for an excellent lunch experience with family.

**Updated review** I came back because I believed in the beignets. They were bomb . The place was very clean, with a cute fig tree at the entrance. The service was EXCELLENT. Everyone was nice, especially the cook who made the order. I also tried the classic burger, which wasn't bad. Fries was still heavy with grease, but you know I ate them anyways and it was good.

Got takeout here a few years ago, and glad we came back more recently. Rounding my rating up to 5 stars. My partner and I got the Bred classic burger, Monte Carlo burger, Parmesan truffle fries, and sweet plantains - TASTE: 5/5 - everything hit the spot. Well-seasoned patties in both burgers, so the standard toppings (bacon, onion, etc) in my classic burger were perfect complements. I am a sucker for truffle, so the Parmesan truffle fries did not disappoint. And ending w the sweet plantains was phenomenal. Need to come back to sample the beignets and the rest of the burgers TEXTURE: 5/5 - smoked patties, tender smoked pork belly in the Monte Carlo, soft buns, and perfectly fried Parmesan truffle fries and plantains. Satisfying all around PRICE: 4/5 - total came to $51. The Monte Carlo is more expensive ($23) than the other burgers ($13-17) SERVING SIZE: 5/5 - came hungry and left absolutely stuffed SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 5:15pm on a Saturday, placed our order at the counter, and our food started coming out 10-15min later ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - small space, w maybe 15 seats, and great music TAKEOUT: 4/5 - appreciated the compostable box that the French fries came in PARKING: 4/5 - got a free street spot right on Dorchester Ave

We love trying an amazing black owned business in the neighborhood! Saw this place on TikTok and had to check it out. It is a small space but they do have two tables and a long counter for dining in. Afro beats were playing in the background- really adding to the vibe. We ordered cousin stizz fries and a Yosemite burger. The burger was delicious, the crunchy bacon and carmelized onion really did it for me. The fries were a full meal in and of themselves. They had an amazing spice but also a yummy sauce with delicious little pieces of fried chicken- a MUST try for uniqueness. We ended with an order of beignets- they were PERFECTION. Crunchy on the outside fluffy and doughy on the inside. Definitely a must try place in dot!

I come here for the beignets. Service is good. Place is always clean. Recently saw some cool wall art.

The burgers are solid, but the barbecue jerk wings are outstanding. Always a favorite stop when I'm in Dorchester Center.

I'm a big believer in bred and it's one of the best near Quincy/Dorchester area. Recently ordered pickup and I'm sadly disappointed in their burgers. The serving sizes shrunk I feel. And this time I noticed the patty to be pre-made or bought frozen... Originally wanted Maui and have tried to get it the past few times but they always never make it or this time they said they didn't have pineapple. I hope this is a one time fluke and not the quality going down

Parisian Burger Cooked medium
Erin H.

What happened to the good quality of food here?! I walked in to order my meal about 5pm. I ordered the parisian burger cooked medium. The burger was beyond dry. It honestly tasted like a reheated burger patty. The onions and mushrooms was very mushy. It made the bread super soggy. Just overall disappointed. I remember coming here and the quality of burger being actually mouthwatering. There was nothing gourmet here

The Marley Sandwich (plus a bite lol)
John H.

The Marly Chicken Sandwich was pretty good. Had a nice spicy kick to it and the toppings were a nice compliment. The wait can take a bit long so I would order online ahead of time if you can. Prices were on the higher side than I expected given fries don't come with the sandwich but the quality is there.

It seemed silly to buy a whole quart of firewood at the end of the season, so we've been going to the grocery store. The wood is sub par, wrapped in environmentally unfriendly plastic and pops A LOT! So when we were driving past this place in Milton, we gave it a shot. They are lovely and will load firewood into your car for you. I went on my way home while wearing a suit, heels and formal coat, and the gentleman helping us out would not let me touch a log. Their wood burns very nicely and is the perfect size. There are very few pops and the wood is high quality. We recently relocated to the Boston area, and had purchased wood from another source in NY. This wood is far superior to what we had previously ordered and we plan to order it in bulk next year. Bonus points, this quaint store has nice freshly baked bread, flowers and gourmet goods as well as some staples. Only thing I would recommend is adding some Iggy's baguettes. Cute store with excellent service!

We used to order directly from Thatcher Farms but stopped getting delivery a few years ago. I still like to grab a few from here or the Fruit Center Marketplace in the square every so often. I really enjoy their chocolate milk (they sell Hatchland Farms NH & Thatcher Farms), but today I saw that they had coffee milk too! Thought that was interesting but didn't end up grabbing... I must try it next time ;) Aside from the milks, they also carry popular beverage brands like Polar Seltzer cans, Oatly! Oatmilk, Welch's juices, Newman's Own, Tropicana, etc. They also sell bread, sandwiches, snacks such as cookies and candy, and fresh flowers that are displayed outside! In the fall, they have a bunch of pumpkins for sale & in the winter time, they usually have some Christmas trees you can buy! Very cute place & highly recommend if you're in the area.

The outdoor area is inviting, and inside there's a great mix of low-top tables, high-tops, bar seating, and cozy spots to settle into. Everything feels thoughtfully spread out, and I loved being able to see the open brick oven and activity in the kitchen. The space also has a bit of a bakery/café vibe, making it feel like a place where you could stop in for a quick grab-and-go item or stay awhile for a full meal. The staff made a great impression too. The people at the front were incredibly helpful to my guest, who was having some trouble with their phone. I also ordered one of the specialty drinks but asked for it without alcohol. The bartender absolutely nailed it--it was so good that my only complaint was that it didn't come in a bigger glass. For food, I had the grass-fed burger and fries (see photo), and it exceeded my expectations. The burger was so juicy and flavorful that I ended up cutting it into pieces just to make it manageable. Every bite was delicious. What I appreciate most is that I left feeling like I hadn't even experienced everything the restaurant has to offer. I already want to go back, choose a different seat, and enjoy a completely different perspective of the space. Honestly, it feels like the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon. This is your sign, visit now!

The employees looked a bit frazzled- the line was mostly new customers (like me) who saw the coverage. Everyone was friendly and sandwiches are made to order- they cut the meat as they maybe each order. It took just about an hour to get to the counter- there were at least 30 people ahead of me. I ordered the Italian sub without veggies, a pint of olives and meatballs with cheese and bread. Everything was delicious. Sandwich was excellent-meatballs were amazing. I would call ahead of order online in the future- and let some time pass as it will likely be busy like this for awhile. They use their space well. Lots of free parking. Very disappointing experience at Tutto Italiano…read more I waited in a massive line because of all the hype surrounding the place and specifically went there for the meatballs. Brought them home expecting authentic homemade Italian meatballs and instead got something that tasted like a mass produced frozen food service product. The texture was spongy, oddly uniform, and completely lacking the flavor and character of real homemade meatballs. Honestly, they reminded me of the kind of reheated catering tray meatballs you get at low end buffets or grocery store prepared food sections. What made it worse was the attitude. The owner came across as rude and dismissive when customers raised concerns, and judging by many of the other reviews, that does not seem uncommon. For a place with this kind of reputation, the quality was shockingly underwhelming. I genuinely do not understand the hype.
