I regret not trying this place sooner. I usually order form Harmony, but that food comes with mystery meat and a health inspectors nightmare...everything I ordered from Bree was outstanding. Flew into Chicago and needed dinner ASAP so looked for somewhere close to Midway. Wow, this was SO good and very authentic-- I live in LA and for years lived in Thai Town, just as authentic as any dish I know and love. I had the red curry and it was super flavorful with the perfect amount of kick. My family got the pad Thai and cashew nut dishes and they were super happy as well. Talk about an unexpected treasure! It makes me just as happy as the time I went to a New Orleans cafe for my morning hot chocolate and they added a shot of Bailey's Irish Cream. That just tickled me silly and so did Bree Thai Restaurant. I showed up at my buddy's place expecting to order out. I intentionally wore my jammy pants and a hooded sweatshirt. Dude surprised me and said we were going to dine in. TLC's "What Not to Wear" would have had a field day. Surrounded by a currency exchange, Payless Shoes, 7-Eleven, and a Walgreens, I had pretty low expectations. Maybe my choice of wardrobe would sneak by unnoticed. Bree Thai Restaurant is small. There are only about five or six tables, each with a white table cloth. The kitchen is separated from the dining area by a bar. Everything was clean. In fact, the friendly and eager-to-please owner stooped to wipe a footprint from the floor that he thought was unsightly. This man with such attention to detail was our host and server that evening. I was excited to order all of my favorite Thai dishes: tom kha, cucumber salad, and Thai Iced Tea. My friend ordered Pad Thai. We also got some pot stickers to share. Both of us enjoyed all of the food tremendously. In fact, the cucumber salad was the best I've had in a long time. It was refreshing and sweet with just a hint of spicy heat. The owner asked how each of our dishes were. He was unsatisfied with my lackluster response about of the tom kha coconut soup. It was not as coconut-y as I like. He really wanted to fix that for me and was sorely disappointed that I was too full for a second bowl. He insisted that they would make it the way I like the next time I come. I was absolutely delighted. I definitely did not expect such service when I was wearing pajama pants! The only complaint that I had about Bree Thai Restaurant was that it was very cold inside. I suspect that it was a structural insulation problem and that the owner would have immediately jacked up the heat if I mentioned it. I will probably ask my friend that we do takeout next time. First, let me start off by saying that my 3 star review has nothing to do with the food but has everything to do with the experience or lack thereof. By all accounts the food was excellent, however in my opinion having a 5 star rated Thai restaurant should mean that not only is the food excellent, but the service, environment and overall experience are top notch as well. So, my wife and I were staying at a nearby hotel because we had an early morning flight to catch back to Dallas. Our only options within walking distance were TGI Fridays, a sandwich shop, pizza and Chinese takeout. I said, why not look on Yelp to see if we can find a place that'll deliver? We found Bree Thai and wow look at all the 5 star reviews! So my wife called and the guy (who sounded very hurried but friendly) said there would be an hour wait for delivery and told us where to find their menu online. Because the delivery wait was so long but the reviews were so favorable, why not just call for an Uber car and get the whole in-dining experience?? BAD IDEA! We arrive at the restaurant 20 minutes later, and saw from the street that the place sat only about 15 people max and someone apparently booked a private party while another 10 people were waiting for take out. The place was packed to the brim. As soon as we walked in, we were told that the dining room was closed and that we could only get takeout. Mind you our Uber car was long gone by this point. The owner didn't seem all too sympathetic to the fact that we just paid $8 to catch a ride to their restaurant and now all we could do is order takeout and pay to ride back even though the private party was ending and tables were freeing up. I say this all because I wish I had known that this place was the size of a shoe box and is nothing close to providing an authentic Thai food EXPERIENCE (at least one that I'm used to and I love going to Thai restaurants). If you're in the area and don't mind takeout, you'll love the food. It was truly excellent. But, if you're like me and prefer a sit down Thai food experience, stay clear of this place. You'll only be disappointed. From one business owner to another: You're onto something, but you're limiting your potential in a huge way. You have an awesome product, but your place is way too small, ugly and in a bad location. Go get a bank loan or checkout Kabbage for capital so that you can get a decent sized location, appropriately decorated with ample parking. read more

Great thai food near the Midway area? Yes! I love it here. The spot Bree Thai occupies now used to be a revolving door for other restaurants. Bree Thai figured it out. It's a small, but a lovely place. I find myself ordering the same food because I know it's gonna be good: Pad Thai, Pad Thai Woonsen, and Veggies Tempura. The best thing is that it's reasonably priced and they dish out huge portions. Kudos to the owner for the lovely decor and I hope Bree Thai sticks around for a long time. read more

As a black man I stopped in this restaurant on the way home from work with my wife. I felt like I was at a lunch counter in Mississippi in the 50's. I was told at 8:50 that the restaurant would close at 9:30. I asked if I if I had time to eat. I guess, reluctantly they said yes. I asked to go to the rest room. I was told to follow the lady, serving to lead me. I do. Suddenly, she said stop. I did. She pushed me to stop. I pushed her hands away. It was kinda weird. She then showed it to me I went . Shrugged it off. Went to the table. Ordered. Dishes order were cold. When told the husband who served me he took them the plates back. Comes back and says, my wife said they are served cold. HE DIDN'T KNOW? We didn't eat anymore. Man comes back. Asks us if we are done. We said yes, he took the plates didn't ask if we wanted it boxed. Threw it out. Brought me a check and said, "I took off the one dish." Now he is asking the couple next to me, if they wanted boxes. If they saved room for desert. It was obvious from the timing of their arrival was very shortly before mine. Quite odd. And to the owners interest, I was their the day before with a client and he was quite personal to them, not me. I then picked that up the second day. Need not tell anything more. I was different than the other people. With a suit on, and professional. That did not matter here! read more

I have never posted a review on yelp before, but I just had to after eating here for the second time. My mother and my son convinced me to try their new favorite place, so I did and WOW....amazing!! I had their pad Thai (beef) lunch special and it was great!! It came with miso soup and a pot sticker, which was also great!! My son was still hungry as their lunch special was not quite enough for a growing 14 year old whom just finished playing two basketball games, so we ordered the crab Rangoon and it was amazing!!! My son absolutely loved their Thai iced tea as well. He swears by the crazy noodles as his go to dish there. We topped off our lunch with his favorite dessert, green tea Mochi, and yum!! Our waitress was great and friendly as well as the owner who actually recognized my son from coming in so much with my mother, so she came over to say hi to him and welcome me. I am a very picky eater, my family actually hates taking me new places as I am overly critical I guess, but not a bad thing to say about this place at all. I believe I left telling the owner that everything we ate was fantastic, which is very rare of me to do. Highly recommend this place as all the other reviews have done so as well. Enjoy!! read more

The Best Penang Beef curry I've had in a very long time!!! I got the Thai food delivered to my place, so I can't comment about the restaurant itself, but the delivery was quick, but a little expensive for delivery, about $4.50. I got the Thai spicy combination fried rice, which was solid , not too oily, and good portions of meat and bite size veggies!!!(4.5/5) Also got the breaded chicken pieces with a lemon sauce and lettuce, and it was very interested, not really a common Thai dish, but it filled my craving for something fried, LOL (3.5/5) Finally, the Penang Beef curry, was not bad at all. Spicy, nice balance of curry and coconut flavors, makes this one of the best Penang I have had in a while. (5/5) The Penang curry gravy combined with the fried rice, just brings memories of of my own Sri Lankan curry and rice I get to eat back home!!!LOL :) Overall, I recommend this place for Thai food, and I wouldn't mind checking out the actual restaurant someday! read more

This place is awesome. When I came here, I made the mistake of coming with 2 ignorant people, no culture what so ever. One of them made a scene, throwing a glass around and making a fuss. Well the owner was totally in control and on point. I was so very embarrassed, but he was great and sweet. Now to the food, this place is just great!! The food was tasty and plentiful. Why the missing star?? Well there was almost NO MEAT in any of the dishes. As good as everything tasted, there was almost no meat in any of it. This establishment is not toddler friendly despite what they say on Yelp. After much deliberation, my picky hubby agreed to eat here and allow my Thai craving be satisfied. How disappointing to learn we were welcome but our 15 month old toddler was not. Don't attempt to dine in if you need a high chair. They don't have any. If you're extra savvy and travel with your own child chair, don't bother bringing it as you are not allowed to use it for fear the glass square sitting on top of the table would crack. Crack? The hook on chair has rubber padding to prevent damage to ANY surface. We kindly asked that they temporarily move the glass square sitting on top of the table so we could suspend the baby seat. They said no. We asked what our options were - they said to hold the baby on our lap while we eat. Not cool. We are flexible. Our baby is flexible. We brought the hardware. And still a straight faced no. For those of you with an energetic toddler or really any child in need of assistance and seeking nourishment, don't bother coming here because you are not welcome. No apologies were offered by the short reply owner and at the mention of 'I guess we are not eating' he kept on without flinching. Clearly the expense of eating Thai food is not just enough to welcome anyone willing to pay. No attempt was made to accommodate us nor was there regret for the discrimination....and lost business. read more

This is the first restaurant that I have been to that the owners care how you are - and want to hear what you have to say about their food - and I wasn't afraid to tell them. They remember you and greet you kindly - and their food - well I finally have something nice to say about a Thai restaurant that isn't anywhere near a lake. I have been here 2x. Love it!! It's not perfect, but I have a feeling they will perfect themselves over time. I love thai beef salad - but I dislike it w/ lettuce -I prefer it with cabbage. Now, they do make it w/ lettuce, but they actually asked me to comment on their food so I didn't feel bad letting them know that I prefer it w/ cabbage. I have had the shrimp summer roll - OMG - the Bomb!! - the sauce is AWESOME!! And that is the way it should be, everything is fresh and the sauce brings it all together. I have had their pad thai and beef lad nar on separate occasions. Very good - again - not perfect. The portions for dine in aren't enormous, but there is enough to take a few bites home. Finally some decent Thai food in the area! We called in our order and they were super nice. They just opened this week. Friendly service upon coming in to the place also. They had probably 8 tables all set with candles in case you're dining in. The lady at the counter threw in a few free pops. Pad Thai was delicious and the husband had Basil Beef, which was awesome! I'm so glad that I finally checked this restaurant out! There is nothing else like it in the immediate area and it surely is a great addition to the neighborhood. It is a very small establishment, only about 6-8 tables (nothing real fancy, but not divey either) and it seems like they do a great carry out / delivery business. The owner Bree actually is cooking in the kitchen and you can tell because the food is dynamite. Everything we ate was delicious and I would highly recommend trying it out. We ate Chicken Noodle Soup, Pot Stickers, Shrimp Shumai, Squid Salad, Crazy Noodles (Beef), Crispy Chicken Fried Rice, and Sticky Rice with Mango for dessert. My favorites were the Crazy Noodles and Sticky Rice. I look forward to returning and trying new things. All around I had a fantastic experience! I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Great food, hugh value, lovable husband and wife owner/operators, and family recipes all around. I tried the crazy noodles, pad garlic, and the best crab rangoons I have ever touched. Everything is handmade, and fresh! Front of the house told me that the chef visits the market four times a week. I chose Bree for a belated birthday dinner. I know the space, I've seen two mexican restaurants fail there. The space is small, but the owers have done a great job classing it up. It's nice inside and the service is friendly and attentive. After pushing dishes from four different thai restaurants in his face, I actually got my fast food loving boyfriend to admit that thai food can be amazing. We ordered here again for pick up. This time I ordered Pad Thai (my fave) -- that was not my favorite. It was SOO saucey - lots of red, sort of tangy sauce the noodles were kind of drenched in it. I don't like my Pad Thai like that and maybe this is the way Pad Thai is supposed to be served, but I've never had it prepared this way before and I wouldn't want it that way again. Came here for lunch. Luckily, they have lunch special ($7.99) There is a couple selection for lunch special, i chose the Pai Thai with beef and my husband picked the chicken basil. The lunch special comes with appetizer (one fried wonton) and miso soup. I thought the price is really reasonable for the amount of the food we got Pai Thai: i would not say this place offers authentic pai thai. the sauce is more toward ketchup type of sauce versus the real pai thai sauce. the beef is alright. the noodle ..wish i could have more chewy texture Chicken basil: the chicken is not a whole chicken piece. it os more like big shredded pieces of chicken.. Overall, i would not recommend for people who are looking for authentic thai food. but it has great customer service and the price is very reasonable. read more

This small cozy but extremely flavorful little restaurant is five star despite of its size. The flavor and quality of their food makes up for it. Their dishes are so colorful and overall delicious. Even if I venture away from my favorite dishes. I never go wrong. Every single time we either take out or dine in, we are welcomed with a friendly hello and a smile. Their customer service is also five star. Their wait staff, makes you feel like you are in their kitchen and make you feel right at home. Because of the size of their dine in area we usually take out. But I've dined in on more than one ocasión. While waiting for our food, the waitress brought us something new to try (an appetizer, fried pot stickers) and they were delicious. Some of our favorite dishes are the red curry, mixed vegetable fried rice, pad Thai noodles, and their lemon chicken. Their service never disappoints. As much as I wish they would venture out and expand their location I wouldn't want them to lose their cozy set up and atmosphere.
