I recently learned about kolaches during a trip to New Mexico. I didn't try them there and I wondered about them. Then, while visiting Pensacola, I drove past this donut shop that had the word kolaches in their sign. I thought "here's my chance". Kolaches are sausages wrapped in dough. They look like pastries and come with cheese, spices, etc. They are good. I liked the ones at this donut shop. The donuts were also good and fresh. This is a basic, yet good, donut shop. read more

Mom wanted donuts but did not want to drive all the way to Gulf Breeze proper or Pensacola so here I am. Food - these are definitely fried donuts. Large variety of colored icings and fillings. Dirty, unfriendly. We ordered a dozen donuts, 3 kolaches and a smoothie and as we waited for the smoothie there were two flies landing on top of the donuts. Not sure why they don't close the shelves from the back and I can't imagine what other critters are crawling on those donuts. The place is filthy and the staff is unfriendly and miserable. My son bit into a kolache and said it had a strong taste of perfume and he immediately spit it all out. Needless to say, we tossed all the food in the trash. read more

Best. Bakery. Period. The kolaches rival those of the famous Colin Street Bakery. We ordered one of each and they were all great. My favorite was the jalapeño. Slightly spicy, and the bread was soft with just a hint of doughy sweetness. The donuts here are phenomenal!! We had maple bacon, fruity pebbles, a pinecone as well as a bear claw. The donuts are so pillowy soft! Very unique texture. Highly recommend the slight drive off the beaten path for this place. We went back two days in a row. read more

The kolaches are the star of the show. The dough is sweet, pillowy, and chewy. The sausage is tender and savory. It is a thing of beauty. I got a bunch for the Gulf Breeze high freshman soccer team and they devoured them faster than a politician can change his mind. The service was personable and friendly. This place is worth a visit, but only if you're early! We went half an hour before closing on a Saturday and the only options left were the cheese or jalapeno kolaches and two types of donuts. Kolaches are from the Czech Republic, and the best way to describe it is a pigs-in-a-blanket, but the size of a normal hotdog. I got the cheese kolache and ate it with mustard and mayonnaise. Sadly, this place is not what it used to be. Prices have gone up exponentially. I was shocked when i paid $18!! Regular donuts are smaller than past donuts. Some quality has decreased. A while back they put up a huge plexiglass divider between workers and customers. It makes quite a glare so you can't see them well. But more annoying is that they have to yell at you and you have to yell back to be understood. It is just ridiculous and makes it difficult or order. Overall, we just won't go very often anymore. I'm from New Orleans and grew up on Beignets, Tastee, and McKenzies donuts. I lived on the west coast, east coast, and in between. This is the best donuts I've ever eaten. My favorite is the great Apple Fritters. They are large, crispy, and full of apple flavor. Other family favorites include the large twist donuts, the jellies, and the pine cones. That's not to mention the Kolaches of which there are three varieties. They will warm one up to eat immediately. The staff is friendly and helpful. The shop is clean and has an area to "eat-in".
