    Tiramisu Croissant

There are bakeries, and then there are places that make you sit in your car, covered in pastry flakes, wondering how things got out of hand so quickly. Sugar Beach Bakery is the latter. Josh was behind the counter today, and he knew exactly what he was doing. He sold me on the kouign-amann--a beautifully excessive combination of butter, sugar, and dough--along with another pastry. Both were gone before I left the parking lot. At that point, dignity was no longer a factor. I went straight back inside for the pastry of the month: a tiramisu croissant. It was worth the walk of shame. They import their butter from Normandy, France, which may sound like the sort of detail bakeries mention to impress you. Here, you can actually taste why it matters. The pastries are rich, crisp, layered, and unapologetically indulgent. Josh was exceptional--knowledgeable without being pretentious, enthusiastic without forcing it, and clearly proud of what they're making. I've tried nearly every bakery around Gulf Breeze and Pensacola. Sugar Beach Bakery is not merely good for the area. It is an absolute standout, period. We're lucky to have it in Gulf Breeze. Stop in Tuesday through Saturday, ask for Josh, and accept that whatever you buy may not survive the parking lot. 5 stars.

service is immaculate. we talked to the owner and asked questions about what kind of filling was in the 3D fruit and how they were assembled and she took her time and explained to us so thoughtfully. each food item we purchased was well worth the money especially if it's just for a special treat. this was my first time here and i definitely would recommend but be a returning customer myself as well! so much care put into these pastries.

Extraordinary bakery. Our dear friends brought us a baked treat from here and we were blown. The chocolate croissants are the best I've had. The chef is trained in France & orders the best ingredients. They are friendly and warm and chatty and so proud of their products. I love the cake wallpaper. It feels great walking in. We also ordered a pumpkin pie from here & my aunt picked up a pecan for thanksgiving. They were crowd pleasers! We've brought guests here because we are such fans. We know this bakery will continue to be a staple in our lives. I hope you try it so it becomes part of yours too.

I keep passing by this bakery wanting to check it out.. so I finally did today! There's so many pastries that look high quality - cinnamon rolls, different croissants, cruffins, muffins, etc. The person serving was very helpful and took time to describe each one. The owner was talking to a group when I got there. They were all very welcoming and just knowledgeable! I can't remember what I tried, but it's very delicious! I can't wait to go back and try more!

But my husband had been here before and insisted I try something and OMG... EXCELLENT doesn't even begin to cover it. We had the Sticky Bun Croissant (topped with buttercream icing and a caramel-y, slightly hardened bottom) and--HELP JESUS. That thing is PHENOMENAL. Like... immediate silence once we started eating. We also grabbed a slice of the 15-layer chocolate cake (layers of cake, chocolate ganache, and chocolate mousse) and it was straight-up fantastic. Even the bottled drinks were great--I had a sparkling pink grapefruit drink that was really good. My husband previously had the carrot cake bread pudding and still talks about it like it changed his life. Everything... and I mean EVERYTHING we tasted was nothing short of amazing. We literally went back 20 minutes later to grab something to bring to my mother-in-love who lives in another state. That's how serious it was. They also have a few celebratory alcoholic beverages if you're grabbing items for a party, event, or special occasion. And they make beautiful baked goods for events too, so definitely check them out if you've got something coming up. Lady Ray's also offers tea parties! You do need to book in advance, but the setup was so intimate, elegant, and cute. I didn't take a photo of the party while it was happening, but I was genuinely impressed. Such a fun idea for a girlfriends' outing. And Lady Ray herself? Absolutely beautiful, both inside and out. Her friendly demeanor, great sense of humor, and service-oriented heart make you want to come back again and again. If you're anywhere near Lady Ray's, I highly recommend stopping by. The first course was a delicious earl grey with scones, the second was a chamomile tea with the tea sandwiches (YUM), and the third was either a cinnamon tea or a peppermint tea with all the sweets (I'm sure the variety may change over time). We were super full by the end and couldn't even finish half of all the goodies, so we got a to-go box to take the rest home. For the price ($38.99 per person) it was nice to get so much to eat and drink!

I personally got the cinnamon roll and I INHALED it. I'm not even a big cinnamon person and I've never finished a roll in one sitting before. Safe to say, we're obsessed. The business is also so cute and boho feeling. Plus they had cute hats, bracelets and incredibly soft sweatshirts for sale. On our second stop, they had a few more options, though I must say - they don't have the largest variety of donuts in general. It's a small shop, so it's not like they can pump out volumes of 50 different kinds of donuts. I get it, but it also can be disappointing if you're looking for something in particular. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Definitely new since I left home. I was interested. Ambiance was wonderful. A good amount of seating with each sitting spot feelings mildly secluded, which is nice. No one wants their coffee shop gossip being overheard. And when you walk in, you're first greeted with that classic glass case of available pastries and goodies. It was hard to not just order one of each item. Service was nice. It was counter service, and they bring your order right to your table. Can't ask for better service than that. Nice folks, good small talk. And the food, it was delightful. We got a couple of fancy coffee drinks, which were well-flavored, not too sweet, and the iced one was presented in a mason jar. Classic. We also shared like four food items. The pull-apart monkey bread was sweet and dense and delicious. Don't order this if you're alone. You'll need help to finish it. Got a creme filled pull pastry thing. That was nice. Flakes for days. This was no rough puff. For the chocolate croissant, also known as a pain au chocolat. Again, very flakey, very buttery, the perfect touch of sweet chocolate. And a savory, massive scone. Bacon and chives, I think. Also very good. Crumbly. Overall, I was very surprised. There certainly wasn't anywhere like this in Pensacola when I lived here. This place is a quality bakery that could easily be found in a medium-sized city. Can someone please explain why Florida gets all the fun bakeries?!…read more My father-in-law surprised Jason with a birthday cake from Smallcakes after it came highly recommended, and now I completely understand why. Jason's grandparents have enjoyed their cupcakes before, so expectations were already pretty high... and somehow they still managed to exceed them. Jason requested a carrot cake for his birthday, and all his dad told Smallcakes was, "Carrot cake, golf theme." Smallcakes absolutely understood the assignment. This cake was GORGEOUS. Every little golf detail was so thoughtfully done, and it looked almost too good to eat! Seriously the sandpit and grass... just wow. (Keyword: almost.) Now let's talk about the icing... because I genuinely have not stopped thinking about it. Im SO picky with icing, I would happily eat it straight from the container with absolutely zero shame. It was rich without being overly sweet, perfectly smooth, and somehow managed to make an already incredible carrot cake even better. Every bite was moist, flavorful, and downright dangerous. (Side note pull out of fridge a little before eating). We're honestly a little heartbroken we're only visiting because I had every intention of trying half the cupcake display too. Unfortunately, we still have a mountain of birthday cake left. ...Then again, challenge accepted. If you're anywhere near Pensacola and need a cake for a birthday, celebration, or just because it's Tuesday and life is hard (which would be me at least 2x a week) do yourself a favor and stop by Smallcakes. Our birthday boy couldn't have asked for a more perfect cake!
