Conroy's Public House is quickly becoming one of our go-to local spots. While they've been around for quite some time--and we've visited often--it's recently earned a permanent place in our regular rotation. The menu offers a wide variety of options, from classic Irish pub fare to pasta, burgers, pizza, and more. It's nearly impossible not to find something that satisfies your hunger --even for the pickiest eaters. Over the years, we've tried several dishes and sandwiches and have never been disappointed. On our latest visit, we started with the cheese curds (fried cheesy goodness with marinara sauce), then ordered the cottage pie and the club sandwich for our entrées. I only stopped in for a post dinner drink so I haven't had the chance to try their food, but the menu looked impressive and yummy! The vibes were great. Cozy and nice ambiance. The service was great and friendly. We sat in the lounge area had a couple of cocktails. The espresso martini was good (pretty sweet) and then I switched to a bourbon and water. I probably attend this place too often because it's on my way home from work. All the food is good and surprisingly light. Even the chicken tenders or less bread than I would've expected. The fish tacos are amazing and I lived in California for 20 years so I know fish tacos. The breakfast on the weekends is outstanding. The bar staff is just all around great and always attentive. I personally like the TVs to watch a game and just sit at the bar, it can get busy on weekdays with a happy hour crowd, but weekends are usually pretty low-key. Extensive selection of beer and whiskey as you would expect from an Irish bar. I personally don't like a lot of bread on my sandwiches so I always ask them to press it as you can see from the French dip picture here. The pub vibe is really cool, and immediately immersive when you walk in. The place was super clean with dark lighting. We started with the sausage roll appetizer which was super hearty, with flavorful and tender meat. The pastry outside was flaky, crispy, and warm. I got an Irish Margarita which was a unique margarita flavor but really good. It was very sweet and tangy. The orange flavor was the strongest. We there on St Patrick's and had no problem getting a table around lunch time, even with the place being busy. Staff was quick to take drink orders and answer any questions about the menu. We had such a wonderful leisurely dinner at Conroy's this week. When WE got around to ordering everything was served quickly and fresh. Having just been to Ireland last fall I can tell you the Irish dishes are just what you'd get there. The Old Fashioned I had was very well made. Fish & Chips included mushy peas, of course. I went "out of country" with fish tacos and would have to say they were better than most we've had in California. Our waitress, Kayla, was wonderfully upbeat and helpful. The room in which we were seated could have been in a basement pub in Killarney. We don't get to Kansas City very often but Conroy's will be a required stop on every trip. read more

There are only a select few dishes/cuisines/selections that impress on Bite ONE - this is one of them! The sauce is really good and tastes delicious. Pair that with some potato chunks, carrot pieces, small onion shards, celery and mushrooms.....OMG my tastebuds said. Let's do last things first in my review. The ambiance is WONDERFUL! Reminiscent of a genuine Irish pub times six, due to the size of the place. Kudos to the designer for providing PADDED CHAIRS and BENCHES! Probably not great for "turning over a table". But for guests a wonderful "bun-us". Service? I attended a book club event and we were provided a corner in a private room. I guess it's ours on a monthly basis. Laura, our fearless leader, communicated with Charley, our server the date and time for our next gathering. He diligently noted it on his calendar. As for Charley - what a wonderful server! He knows the menu inside and out and was helpful with suggestions. Now to the food. I ordered my favorite sandwich with a Cesar salad. I couldn't eat the salad as it had far too much dressing on it. I LOVED the diced onion and red and green peppers in the tuna salad. The port, gooey Cheddar cheese slice was great. But ~~my~~ preferred method has the tuna warmed up. Arrived at Conroy's on a Saturday morning after being ignored for 20 minutes at a nearby establishment. What a breath of fresh air! Conroy's was amazing. By request we were immediately seated outside on the patio on a beautiful day. Our server was warm and pleasant and knew her trade. Walking through the restaurant, I was able to see that it was a true Irish Pub and not just decorated in a theme. My perfect pour of a cold Guinness punctuated that fact. There were four of us and we ordered off the brunch and regular menu. There was not a miss in the entirety of our order. It appears that everything is house made. The fried pickles were outstanding! This place was absolutely packed on St Patrick's Day (why wouldn't it be?). After a 45 min wait we were sat in the dining area away from the bar. It was much quieter and more relaxed over there, I'm glad we chose to wait instead of fight the crowds. I went to Conroy's for a working lunch recently. It got busy around noon but there was no wait for a table. I do think that they were a bit understaffed as there were long waits. I got the pork sliders. These were just ok and I plan on trying something else if I return. The fries were not very crispy and also just ok. The onion rings were very good and I would come back just for those. It is overall pretty pricey for what you get. read more

Really, really wanted to like this place. The longer wait and crowds told me I should. Ambiance was excellent. We came as the dinner rush ended and the place was clearing. So.Much.Potential!!! Frankly, the best Guinness I've had in the USA (and I drink a lot of Guinness at a lot of Irish bars). Fries with curry was super-tasty. Unfortunately, the incredibly slow (missing?) server was the first problem. 10+ minutes between seating and taking our drink orders? Then, another 20+ minutes before we could order appetizers and dinner. Hand-made food takes a while, yet one of our 4 dinners just never came out. When the server finally came back, they rushed the dish and it was meh. The final nail in the coffin was a post-dinner Guinness pre-marked with lipstick. My wife said it wasn't my color. I would have sent it back, but the server never did come back. Had to take it to the bar and show he bartender. He was embarrassed, yet I was annoyed at having to get my own drinks. And if she was super-busy with other tables, we would have understood. She wasn't. She just 'disappeared.' Really wanted to like the place, but sadly.... Never again. read more

I was craving fish and chips and found this place on Yelp. I've driven by it a dozen times and never saw it there. Oh my goodness! The fish and chips were amazing. The fish was flavorful and crispy, and the portion was very generous. I thought I would be bringing half of it home, but I ate it all. Very yummy! Conroy's does it again! We stopped by for a quick bite while out running errands. We discovered that their Brunch menu runs until 3pm. So we decided to try the scones. Loved the berries and cream. The scones were a little dry without them, but had good flavor. My husband was expecting something different, but I had to remind him English/Irish scones are like a dense southern biscuit. The baked Mac & Cheese wasn't bad, the use of a queso cheese surprised me, but pair good with the fried chicken. FPO and I were continuing our adventures in Kansas and we're looking for a new place to have dinner. A quick search on Yelp led us to Conroy's Public House. It was early evening, around 5:30 when we got there. We could see outdoor seating available, though no one was making use of it. We walked in and it was like I'd always imagined an authentic Irish public house would be. There was a bar along the wall, to the right were several high top tables, to the left there were booths and a couple of long tables that could be pulled together for larger groups. We were greeted almost immediately and seated in a booth. TVs mounted high up, along several of the walls showed various sports. Liam R. was our sever and he is great. Very knowledgeable about the menu he was also very patient as we perused the menu. To FPO's utter delight they have a drink called the Blacksmith. It's Guinness and a red ale mixed together. I had a really nice Pinot Grigio. For starters we had a Scotch Egg and Fried Brie plate. Through no fault of their's I had to send the Brie plate back. It comes with seasonal fruit. Note to self, always ask which fruits are included. Actually, being allergic to pineapple, I usually know better. I just had no idea pineapple would be included in a fruit selection in an Irish pub, almost four thousand miles from Hawaii. Liam was great about it though, redoing the appetizer, sans pineapple. For entrees we had the Steak and Guinness Pie and Fisherman's Pie. As much as us possible, everything at Conroy's is scratch made in the kitchen so it takes a little while for the food to come out. It's worth it. FPO thought the Scotch egg was the best ever, nicely seasoned and great texture. Per Liam's suggestion, we swapped out the flakey pastry for mashed potatoes on the Steak and Guinness Pie and left the pastry on the Fisherman's Pie. Both were delicious. Of course there was no room for dessert but we ordered the bread pudding anyway. Very dense and covered with a whiskey vanilla sauce and was pretty good, in my opinion. I'm not a particular fan of bread pudding but FPO almost managed to finish it. All in all it was a great meal. Conroy's Public House is going on our list of go to places. read more

So we've been to the other location before. Kinda knew what to expect. This location seems to have more of that pub vibe. Today we started with some scones, jam and cream. Living the high life indeed!! My wife had a wrap and one friend had a burger and the other the chicken pot pie. All three were winners. I had the fish and chips and mushy peas. Excellent choice all the way. Went well with my perfectly drawn Guinness. This location seems cozier but the service at both is top notch!! I am not typically the type to leave a poor review on a restaurant, but this experience could not go unheard. My partner and I came in for lunch about a week ago on. It was a Tuesday and it was pretty nice outside, so I requested patio service. We were brought to the patio, the woman that sat us went inside and came back out so it seems as if she was hosting and serving (not uncommon) but she didn't start us with waters (I thought this was odd because it's patio service in the summer but I let it slide). I ordered a water and a Stella on draft and my partner also ordered a water and onion rings for the table. The beer was brought out flat and kind of warm (again I let it slide). When the beer was brought out we were asked if we wanted the onion rings when the drinks were sat down (again this is odd) were you just going to leave them under the heat lamp until we were ready? gross. Onion rings come out (they were alright but pretty greasy) and we order our food. Okay let's get into to it - I ordered a turkey melt and it was disgusting. Soggy bread, no flavor but the little flavor that was there was very off and the "carmelized onions" were slimy and still white. My partner ordered the Irish Man which he was extremely disappointed with. It was marked as one of their Irish specialties which is why he got it and was given a pick of extremely dry corn beef on mushy almost disintegrating bread. He also had fries on the side which were soggy yet burnt at the same time. Needless to say we didn't eat more than a couple bites between us both. Our waitress came to check on us and we asked for our bill and no boxes to which she made a face at. Not asking why so much food was left or what was wrong or trying to gauge or fix the situation at alll. My partner and I are both long time food service workers with experience in all realms of the industry, so we aren't ones to complain. We paid our tab and went on our way. The Craic Has Left the Building - possibly the worst meal we have had anywhere in the last decade. Place was slow. We waited over an hour for 3 meals. Had to get up and find the server at one point to ask where our meal was. Service was indifferent and offered no apology or asked how the meal was.
