We gathered here as a large group for lunch, and they put us in a private room to accommodate us. The food server was quick, efficient and courteous (during our conversations). The food choices are mostly comfort type foods, however, wanting something healthier or lighter the choices are few (hence the rating but may not matter to others who prefer heavier items). Initial review... so there is room for more stars in the future. Sorry, no pictures... I was too hungry! My date ordered the Salmon and I ordered the trout. So the first issue... it tasted the same. The Salmon had a little bit of a better crunch to it. Both had the Steamed veggies and the Rice Pilaf. All of which were not seasoned in any way. The Guinness was cold so that was a win. I want to be very clear... the food wasn't bad. But, it was seasoned for your average nursing home. But, maybe the issue is what I ordered. The menu is also filled with Irish favourites like Irish Stew and Fish 'n' Chips. Also tried the brownie that the place is named for. I can't recommend it. Tasted like chocolate cake... and was very dry. I would have been fine with the ice cream, but my lactose-rejecting stomach said no. The atmosphere here is something to rave about! Classic dark wood Irish pub feel. The real kind... not a sports bar posing as an Irish pub. Also Guinness on tap and cider drinks! Way to go! Our waitress was quick and very friendly. She came by our table constantly and checked on us again, and again (and again, and again, and...) you get the point. This was still WAY better than the bartender that we listened to complain to every customer that came in about pretty much anything and everything. Bad Day? Maybe... but the complaints were just generic downer-type stuff. Maybe that helps get better tips in some circles... but can't help but mention it in the review and take it into consideration when going back. All that said... I will be back and try it again. Had not been here for many years due to moving out of the area. We went back on a Friday night and had a great time. The service was fast and friendly. My wife and I had the Reuben sandwiches and they are as good as ever. Our friends had the Friday shrimp special and country fried steak. We were doing that thing where you drive around until a place looks good. Do you do that? We just couldn't decide what we wanted. It was Saturday before noon, it wasn't super busy and the people there seemed like they might be regulars. A few people came in for pick up orders. We ordered fish and chips and a Reuben with a fruit cup as the side. It took awhile for the food, but not a horrible amount of time. You could hear a lot of yakking in the back, not saying that contributed to the wait, but it could have. The fish was very tasty. It didn't look like much, kind of more the size of chicken tenders, but I appreciated the delicate breading and ended up really enjoying them. The "chips" were fine, freezer bag fries. The coleslaw wasn't bad, but quite bland. There was something refreshing about it, but disappointing at the same time. I left most of it. The fruit cup that came with the Reuben had a few pieces of brown sad fruit right on top, which is sad that they would even serve something like that and didn't even say anything about the fact when they picked up the plates. The Reuben was more of a chopped meat sandwich than nice slices of meat. This made for it being quite dry and messy to eat. While the fish was really tasty, the rest of the experience was ho-hum enough that I doubt we'd go back. read more

Our first experience here. The hostess seemed afraid of her own voice as she was barely audible leading us to our table. The menus were slapped down and she was gone in a flash. The waitress was distant and had to be asked for recommendations and even then seemed unable to interact with us. We quickly got our drinks but had to ask someone who brought our food to our table for straws as the waitress had forgotten we existed. The mushroom appetizer was ok but overpriced for 4 mushrooms. I ordered the 3 course meal as it was restaurant week. Started with chili which was flavored mostly but lacked in meat for being called steak chili. Chicken Marsala was good but lacking in mushrooms-maybe there is a shortage I am unaware of. My friend ordered the tenderloin and it was on the small side and unseasoned. The onion rings would have been perfect but the breading fell off. Additional staff came to our rescue and were super friendly and helpful. Closing out the experience, the Charlie Brownie was a little on the dry side but was saved by the ice cream. I'll be back to try again but it might be a minute. We love eating here because of the delicious food, spacious seating/conference room, and fantastic service. I ordered the Chicken Marsala entree which consisted of lightly breaded chicken with a creamy mushroom marsala sauce. The chicken and sauce was served over thick & tasty mashed potatoes. With that said, I ordered the fried chicken and mashed potatoes, but opted to drop the veggies for macaroni and cheese. I pretty much have to try the mac&cheese almost everywhere. Instead of a salad, I went with the potato soup (despite that it's 80 degrees outside). I know, I know, starch, starch and more starch. Again, it's about me! The potato soup was creamy with little chunks of potato, topped with bacon bits and shredded cheese. The fried chicken was crunchy and tender with a tasty, light seasoning. The crunchiness was my favorite part (like when you eat at Captain D's and they have a layer of all those crunchy bits under your fish and you just can't stop eating them... yep, it was like that)! The mac&cheese was flavorful and cheesy. It was a cross between homemade, Kraft and a Vegas style buffet, but in a good way. I ate every bit of it! My wife had the Catfish Fingers from their seasonal menu with a bowl of chili. She liked her dish, but raved about the chili being the star and the best she's had in town. If boasting about tarter sauce is allowed, she gave props for it as well. I'm not sure how "Irish" O'Neills menu is, but they have comfort food down pat! read more

We've come here many times - from Gladstone. We've also ordered the blackened catfish dinner and loved it. Tonight, the fish was unevenly cooked. Part of it was undercooked on both of our dinners, so we didn't finish it. The mixed veggies were tasty but room temperature. Tried them for the first time today. The food was pretty good but the service was the worst my wife and I ever experienced. The waitress forgot my wife's drink, which wasn't a huge deal but did set a bad tone. It then took the waitress several more minutes before she came by and asked if we needed more time before ordering while my wife and I were paying time checking our phones while our menus were around down. While my wife was ordering the waitress made a suggestion for onion rings which were supposed to be amazing, they weren't, they were just normal onion rings. She also said that my wife had to try them with ranch which was agreed to, but then the ranch was forgotten. My wife asked for extra sauerkraut for her Reuben, which also didn't come with the order. By the time the waitress finally came by to check on us we were already halfway thru our meal. The place was only half filled and running slower at around 1:30pm at that time. After another extended period waiting the waitress asked if she could offer ice cream to our daughter, which was nice expect she didn't bring vanilla as she said she would and our kiddo started having a mini meltdown. We had also asked for a box for our kiddos leftovers, but that never arrived. We would have asked a 2nd time for a box, but by that time my wife and I had already finished eating at least 30 minutes earlier and we were ready to get out. First and last time @ Oneill's, the food was horrendous. I ordered the ribeye which was a breakfast cut steak at best, and came out a weird gray color, I have a feeling they boiled it then threw it on the grill. The name implies Irish food but that is it not the theme of the food. They do have a couple Irish themed dishes. They have some daily specials that I would recommend. Bloody Mary's - yep, Beer cheese - definitely! The soup had chunks of bacon and maybe leeks(?). It was a very tasty soup - the ingredients all seem to blend really well. Fish n chips - main entree choice. Pondered the fried chicken special but Zak our waiter said the fish was good. The fish ranks second on my list! The coating was extremely crispy, fish was flaky - added a little lemon & malt vinegar - no tartar sauce needed. Im not crazy about waffle fries - will sub those out for another option next time. Imagine a more casual Houlihan's or an Applebee's with better food but still with a bunch of decorative 'crap' on the walls. That's O'Neill's. Good, solid American food, great service- just the perfect casual place for lunch or dinner. Love that they're open later than other places in the neighborhood- this would be a great place to grab coffee and dessert after a show or movie. The night we were there they had blackberry crumble. Mmmmm blackberry crumble! A friend recommended the fish 'n chips, and it didn't disappoint- tender, flavorful fish, well seasoned waffle fries, and really interesting cole slaw. You know how cole slaw is either mayo based or vinegar based? O'Neill's' (is that how I punctuate that?!) is both. A couple weeks ago we were looking for a place to meet and eat and I found this place on the web. Ultimately we ate somewhere else but we were getting together again I suggested we try this place that none of us had heard about. I'm not sure why no one in our circle knew anything but just as well for us as Saturday late lunch was not crowded. It's a beautiful pub atmosphere and very easy to get to. There are so many choices on the menu compared to other similar places, and yet the menu is not overwhelming. It's obvious they're short staffed but we were very nicely taken care of. We all ordered different things and found that the serving sizes were generous. The chicken fingers and waffle fries satisfied. And my wife was so happy to find the fish and chips were not beer battered. They had a wonderful panko crust and she said she'd definitely come back here for that. I went off the normal path and tried the Irish pot roast. So good!! I can't wait to go back and try some of their other selections. I also had some bread put for dessert and it's big enough to split but I didn't. The caramel sauce was really good. Again they have a lot of choices in desserts for those of us who don't eat much chocolate. I wish this was closer to my house so we could drop in easier, but when we're in the area this is definitely gonna be a place to grab a meal. My family used to get O'Neill's chicken pot pie every Thursday growing up. They sell out super fast, you have to put in an order ahead of time to get one! I work right by here and its a fine place to grab a casual bite for lunch. I do feel like the quality of food has gone down drastically over the years. The service could also use some improving. Staff is hard to find and food takes awhile, even if it is a salad. They are always busy so you know that people enjoy it but the average crowd is probably 60+. In general it is an easy place to go for a super causal meal but they could use some fine tuning to get back to the O'Neill's I grew up loving. read more

O'Neill's is a nice spot at the heart of Leawood. Its customers are loyal and plenty and it has a fun and homey vibe to it. Among the things I have ordered are the salmon on the happy hour menu, one of the dip appetizers, and the bruschetta. The best by far being the bruschetta. It's relatively light and oh so yummy. The salmon was okay but not very filling and I barely remember the dip so there's that. Probably my biggest complaint (and if you know me this comes as no surprise) is that the happy hour ends super early. 6:00 pm I believe. Been going to O'Neill's for 20 or more years and was never disappointed, but since they re-opened rage Reuben sandwich and meatloaf have both been disappointing. Corned beef use to be sliced thin, thin and layer thick on the bread, but 2 weeks ago I ordered it and it was chunky, grizzly with fat. And just got the meatloaf dinner and it had a spicy ketchup sauce on it. Not tasty at all like it use to be. Has it sold to new owners or do they have a different chef??
