I love Towne too much and it is a core memory of mine. First off, the food is one of the best in Lewisburg and has very very generous portions. They used to have dessert options and the options are massive, but it has been trimmed down due to lack of demand. My favorite items are the craft beer shrimp, black diamond, and flat iron steak. Portions here are large, especially the pasta. They also make really good drinks and they have a DJ on weekends that have really good music and vibes. It is also a great place to watch Sunday Night Football. I think one of the most important aspects of a bar is the community. The community cultivated here is friendly. The bartenders are excellent. They know the really good drinks and make good banter with all the patrons. read more

We have eaten here many, many times. All food is very good, from The fish, salads, sandwiches and quesadillas! Fried pickles are really great! Staff are friendly, service is usually speedy. My only negative comment is that the restaurant looks like it is getting a little old and could use a little freshen up or floor scrub. We stopped after a visit to Bucknell as recommended by a friend. The restaurant is an old school bar / grill with sports memorabilia on the walls. There are plenty of tables around the bar area. The service was a little slow to start, but once we got drinks, it seemed to pick up. The server was friendly. The food was solid. We didn't get anything exciting - fried pickles, salads and sandwiches, but all were done well. The bar area was very busy for a Saturday afternoon. I understand places are struggling but, every menu is so similar these days. I ordered the grilled shrimp and got like maybe 7 or 8 of the smallest shrimp I've ever been served. please do better restaurant. these shrimp were maybe 80/90 per pound. shrimp is like maybe $8-10 a pound. i'd rather shrimp or three that were decently sized and had a taste. the only reason I'm leaving two stars is that service at the bar was good. The bartender was very nice & Attentive. The place across the street you couldn't even get service. Came in here with the parents and grandparents. Were looking to have a late lunch, early dinner. I mentally noted that it took our party about 10-15m before we got seated. My grandparents have health issues, so this slightly irked me. The interior is rustic, and I do love a good rustic vibe. I thought our waiter was very nice. Nana can be blunt sometimes with the way she requests things, and he handled it well. To start, I got one of their draft ciders, it was quite good. The table got a couple of sides. Loaded (bison) fries and a sample appetizer that had a few items on it: wings, fried curds, and cheese sticks. On the appetizers alone I would have rated them 5 stars. They were delicious with a great amount of crispiness. We all agreed the cheese curds were ridiculously good. I quite enjoyed my fries. For the entree, I got a burger with some preferred toppings: mushroom, swiss, sauce. I asked them to cook it medium, but unfortunately it came out well/well-done. I rarely get the chance to eat my hallowed burger and "beer" when I go out these days, so I was a little sad. read more

First time in town with a group consisting of family and friends. We were visiting on our way to Penn state for the PSU/UD football game the next day. Stopped in for dinner at 7pm and the place was empty. Usually that has me questioning because that's a typical time for dinner on a Friday night. I figured there's be other people in there besides us, we made a reservation but clearly was not needed. The waitress was nice but pretty slow. We were sitting for a long time between ordering apps and ordering our entrees. We were long done with our apps before she even came back again to take our orders but we were in no rush so it wasn't a huge deal. What was strange was the fact that one of our group members was visibly pregnant so she asked for a mixed drink (cranberry and pineapple juice) with no liquor. When the waitress brought it back to the table she said "ya I was told you can never do that again from the bartender so this is your last one". If they didn't have the ingredients to make that that's fine but it was a weird way to say that? Maybe try "can I interest you in a soda instead?" The whole table heard so we were all confused by that and left wondering what that was about. The food was OK. I'd say very average but good if you're in a pinch it's standard bar food. They had a decent sized menu and variety of options available. Seems like it'd be a better place for drinks and apps than going for an actual meal for dinner. read more

Good chili, but the attitude at the bar can be really crappy some days. They can be snotty. Why? I don't know. Back when I wore the occasional Bureau of Prisons sportswear they were nicer. I quit wearing that stuff since I retired. Sometimes, especially in college towns, bartenders get this I'm-a-local-celebrity complex, and I think that's part of it. It's too bad. I love a good pub. I recommend the Elk Creek Brewery in Milheim and the Bullfrog Brewery in WIlliamsport. They are NICE. read more

My favorite sandwich is Reuben so that's what I ordered for my takeout. The filling to bread ratio was reasonable and eating wasn't messy. Bread was properly browned. It's not a huge portion, in a good way and when my friend picked it up, she didn't have to wait, on a Saturday early evening when downtown was filled up with people who came for the ice fest. Stopped here at the recommendation of a friends parents while shopping in Lewisburg. The Towne Tavern has the feel of a "townie" (locals) place. Interior is wood grain style and is split into two sides, one with the bar and the other with booths. We were seated reasonably fast and the menu was standard tavern fare (burgers, etc.) We all ordered various burgers with either chips or fries and had different experiences. The burgers were rather large but we suspect several of our items were either fried or kept under a heat-lamp for too long. Half of my friends burger was burned and the potato chips had "give" I.E. were soggy. My bacon cheeseburger was good but the fries were very terrible, they didn't look or taste fresh. My other friend's plain burger and Old Bay fries were fine. Prices are ok but this is more of an atmosphere stop then for food, so I doubt I'll be returning. read more

Don't be dissuaded by the curbside look. This place has some good food and drinks. The chili is beefy and a bit of a bite but not too spicy. Nice. I also tried the Reuben sandwich that Tina behind the bar recommended. It was great. The corned beef is shredded, not sliced. Nice big chunks. Soo good. Got the onion rings instead of chips. Crunchy. Absolutely disappointed!!! This has been one of our favorite places. We called for reservations because we had 7 people coming to celebrate my brother-in-laws 7 YRS CANCER FREE mark and when we got there basically without saying it and being extremely rude they gave our table away. The owner himself said what do you want, we are a small place and then told us we needed to wait. If you cannot honor reservations, don't have them. Our group waited 20 minutes just for someone just to come to our table, 50 minutes to get water, 75 minutes for dry burgers and cold soggy fries. The appetizers were the only decent things about this place. They came out pretty fast and hot, but with no drinks to go with, it was kind of disappointing. They also don't believe in social distancing, people were packed inside, tables right next to other tables. When it came time for us to pay, it took 15 minutes to get our credit card back. Sitting at the bar playing trivia. Waiting for the scores and really enjoying ourselves. The owner walked over and took a stool from where someone was sitting but had gone to the bathroom. I got up and grabbed a new stool from a nearby table. The owner got up from where he was sitting and came over to berate me. He said, "if I want to grab a stoll from my bar, I will" I told him someone was sitting there. He said, "no there isn't " and walked away telling the bartender to cut me off. The Town Tavern has beer, not a great selection, and not super prices... but it does have beer. It's far better when the college students are not around. Once a month, a few of us that worked together years ago get together for lunch. We usually LOVE this place. However, we met here on Monday, May 16, and it was a less-than-pleasant experience. There was only one waitress who, we could tell was irritated to start with, for the entire restaurant. We waited 20 minutes to get our drinks once the order was placed. Bloody Mary was just OK. When our food finally came out, 40 minutes later, it was mediocre at best. My friends got the crab cake sandwiches, which are mostly filler and spices. They were horrible. My burger was overcooked. We sat there for over an hour and not checked on to see if we needed anything, if the food was ok or for drink refills which were empty for quite awhile. When our waitress, Sara, FINALLY came back, the restaurant was cleared out and THEN she wanted to be friendly and talk to us, mostly to tell us about how she was the only one there other than the cook and bartender and apologized. Are you kidding me? If the owner doesn't have enough staff to properly conduct business and CATER to his customers (which is their job!), don't even open the doors. This is the second time in a row that the food and service were substandard and we won't be returning any too soon! What a shame as this establishment used to be one of the best for the cuisine served. read more

This is normally the casual sports bar of choice for my friends and me, but last night (2.29) will be my last visit. There were two female bartenders and the bar was busy, but they didn't acknowledge my presence at all. We had to move to another part of the bar and even then they didn't greet. I had to actually ask for assistance. The bartender was graceless and brusque. Bars in NYC that have just one bartender operate better and more efficiently than this one with two. They need to be taught customer service skills because this bar will only lose business to their competitors..because in the end it all comes down to service. On a Sunday evening in March at the end of spring break for Bucknell, this quiet inn in a quiet town seemed the only open restaurant in town. They had St. Patrick's Day specials. My daughter loved the Shepard's Pie, I found the corned beef and cabbage to be ordinary and the meat to be tough. The beer selection was remarkable though, and 5 5-oz flights for $12 seemed a good value. Went here this past weekend during the time of COVID on a random hiking trip through the area and pleasantly surprised especially based on the other reviews. Super nice staff, great beer selection, and good pub food. Quickly greeted by someone who sat us outside. Most servers were wearing masks and our server made sure that we were seated a comfortable distance from other patrons. When it started raining she also happily moved us to an outdoor area with umbrellas. Big beer selection. They were out of one or two things but we got a couple sour beers. Prices were great, and they had some things I hadn't seen in other bars. Pretty extensive menu. We had the Irish Perogies which were very different but really nice! Perogies covered with sauerkraut and corned beef. I had the fried haddock with a side of tortellini soup. Soup was excellent with a nice mix of spices, veggies, and sausage. Not a huge helping of fish but it was nice and crispy, not oily/soggy, and came with a nice tartar sauce. I tried my friends sweet potato fries and they were AMAZING. Not too salty, super crispy on the outside and nicely cooked on the inside. Really the standout from the meal. My friend also had grilled chicken on garlic bread with spinach artichoke dip on top. Tasted great but was a bit heavy. Both our entrees came with a basic salad as well. Overall the meal was a steal price wise too, especially since we took a bit of food home and had two beers to go. Welcoming staff, excellent pub food (Get the sweet potato fries!), and a great beer selection. Definitely gave us a good first impression of Lewisburg. read more
