Draft cider
Shawn K.

Came in here with the parents and grandparents. Were looking to have a late lunch, early dinner. I mentally noted that it took our party about 10-15m before we got seated. My grandparents have health issues, so this slightly irked me. The interior is rustic, and I do love a good rustic vibe. I thought our waiter was very nice. Nana can be blunt sometimes with the way she requests things, and he handled it well. To start, I got one of their draft ciders, it was quite good. The table got a couple of sides. Loaded (bison) fries and a sample appetizer that had a few items on it: wings, fried curds, and cheese sticks. On the appetizers alone I would have rated them 5 stars. They were delicious with a great amount of crispiness. We all agreed the cheese curds were ridiculously good. I quite enjoyed my fries. For the entree, I got a burger with some preferred toppings: mushroom, swiss, sauce. I asked them to cook it medium, but unfortunately it came out well/well-done. I rarely get the chance to eat my hallowed burger and "beer" when I go out these days, so I was a little sad.

Bacon cheeseburger and fries. Fries were not good.

Solid, if safe food menu. Good drinks. Nice place to go out when you're in town. One problem. TURN THE LIGHTS ON. Very dark in there!

Good menu, but sometimes the service is a bit slow. Seating can be a problem for larger groups.

We tried stopping in once before and they were completely booked for the night. This time we planned ahead, made a reservation, and were seated right away. At the recommendation of our waitress, we all ordered the chicken and waffles special, and every single person loved it. It was absolutely delicious. I also had the Reuben soup and it was very tasty. They also have a wonderful beer selection. I tried the blueberry beer, which was very tasty with a smooth blueberry finish that really stood out. If you're looking for a great brewery with good food, great beer, and a fun atmosphere, I would definitely recommend checking this place out!

Just not sure about the merinara sauce to go with the fries. Of the beers I tried, my favorite was the Swish (Swedish Fish-inspired sour beer). Service was great- our waitress was very attentive and friendly. For Galantine brunch, the omlett station was my favorite. Least favorite was that the cocktails that we ordered at the bar before the cocktail-making demo was not included with the prepurchased tickets. Second floor of the restaurant has a lot of taxidermy (not my thing, but may be a lot of other people's), and game tables, like pool. Will be back!

Besides the staple menu, there was a rotating menu featuring a soup, mussel dish, flatbread, burger, and pasta. The food took some time to come out, and everything was rather bland across the board. The interior was decorated nicely for the holidays though. *Hummus Platter: a huge shareable for $10. The crispy naan resembled the Costco version but fried. The naan itself worked well as a base for the hummus, although the hummus was neither smooth nor flavorful. There was no fragrance from the chickpeas, and it tasted rather unseasoned. The selection of peppers, carrots, and cucumbers was decent. *Garlic Butter Mussels: their monthly mussel dish. The mussels were cooked well and coated in a one dimensional sauce. The sweet wine was cooked down with lots of garlic, while the butter was subtle. I wished there had been a bit more toasted baguette to balance the one pound of seafood. Note there is a 3% credit card surcharge. I could not find this listed on their menu and but I saw the charge on my receipt. I enjoyed the few beers I had, and the food was acceptable for a bar. With some improvement to the flavors, this could be a worthwhile visit for a bite and a drink.

My only issue was the beer cheese. It tasted too much like beer. The beer flavor was definitely over powering. The other special sauce wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. A typical thousand island type of sauce. But over all it was pretty solid. I would comeback and try something else.

There was only one person working there when we went and she was very friendly. The cider is apparently made by one person alone and she was literally canning the cider when we walked in. We got some 4 packs for take out. They have special varieties for COVID - Plum, Passion Fruit and Peach. All were excellent! The flavors were very genuine, not too sugary. When it came to the plum, it really tasted like you were eating a plum (mild plum I suppose). They were also very nice and accommodating given the outdoor dining everyone was doing - they allowed us to use the restroom and fill up our water bottles so we could eat outside with the takeout we got. All in all an excellent experience. The varieties on the website sound great and we hope to be back after COVID is gone to check the place out in full swing!

The reason I haven't been going for the past three years is that the last time we ordered a Reuben, it was the most disgusting sandwich I'd ever received. The meat tasted terrible, and the color was "off." The time before that the Blarney bread was undercooked and had so much mayonnaise on it that it was inedible. Two weeks ago, it was undercooked and cold in the middle. The more well-done pieces I was able to eat, but the little pieces I could not. The following week, we decided to try the newly opened section on the corner inside the old Arooga's. Two bartenders working, the bar was not that busy but one of the bartenders closest to us didn't even acknowledge or let us know that she'd be right with us. It took the other very attentive and excellent bartender at the other end of the bar to notice my eyes looking around for some help when she came over to take care of us. She was great! The petite blonde was absolutely the worst and I wish I knew her name so I could call her out in this review. I used to love this place and my previous review is five stars. It's definitely not the same as it was before so I'm not sure we will be visiting this establishment again.
