    Chicken livers!
    Delia S.

I love this place. A fast, delicious, southern diner that is no frills but good food amd good service. My family and I like to go after church on Sundays. I LOVE the chicken livers. My favorite side is the carrot souffle. Pick muffins over roll or have them both and cornbread! Make it a southern experience for just 5 bucks more and you get an extra side and a dessert.

Dale's Grill, Hoover, Alabama Family owned, Southern specialties, $10 lunches from 11-4 daily....... Meat and 3 Southern restaurants have dwindled over the years, but we still have a few that are proud to serve home-cooked meals from scratch. Dale's is a family-owned restaurant, following the meat plus vegetables plus desserts formula that we've always loved. With a cozy diner vibe, Dale's has more booths than most restaurants, plus big tables, so you can easily accommodate your family and friends. There are Southern recipes (I'll attach menus) and daily specials. The daily specials are a steal for $10 from 11-4. The wait staff are courteous and will keep the tea coming. Just like you like it!

We went to Dale's after a show at BJCC. We were not disappointed!! Everything was fresh, hot and yummy!! Our waiter Jose, was awesome!! Great service and great food!! There are TVs for sports folks, but not loud! Everything clean!! (:

I was recently here to dine in for lunch. The service was friendly. For my meal I had their fried chicken livers with carrot soufflé and steamed cabbage. The fried chicken livers were amazing and fried to perfection!!! OMG!!! Annnnnnd the portion was huge! I didn't love my sides. Carrot soufflé had way too much cinnamon in it and the cabbage was bland. Not much flavor! The star of the show was the gravy served with the chicken livers..... soooooo good. I probably could drink it! Ha! I don't know if Dale's has changed ownership over the years. It definitely felt differently and their menu seems reconstructed as well. Something is different. The dine in experience was cool. I sat at a comfy /spacious booth. The atmosphere here is casual and there's a bar section with TVs.

It looks bigger in the photo the small chick breast( which you split a chicken breast in half looks like)

I wish I can give it a zero. It has been a while since I been here, but absolutely not, absolutely not.Count your days because this type of carrying on can't last. This quality and quantity of this food is beyond poor. You gave me a slice of meatloaf and a thin slice at that and beyond dryer than the Sahara desert, and the chicken breast had to be from a chick because it was the smallest chicken breast I ever seen. We didn't even notice it when the plate was sat down. The place need a deep clean not touch up paint. You have senior citizens that are here majority of the time.find a safer walking space for them instead of this slippery floor and broken and crack pieces on it. And do us all a favor and do a deep clean. People feel comfortable with eating at establishment only if it's clean. The walk way to the restroom needs to be decluttered and deep cleaned. I'll never be back and I'm sure you guys want last long with these type of shortcuts and dry small food.

Classic Southern food out in Hoover... I want to love it here. My grandparents had their 50th wedding anniversary party in the back room back in 1993. Dale's is a Hoover staple, but lacks the charm of a traditional meat-and-three. Recent renovations, restaffing, and commercialization of their take-out all take away from the down-home atmosphere that the food begs. The Fried chicken was delicious, creamed corn is too sweet, fried okra are just ok. Poppyseed chicken was good, but covered in far too many cracker crumbs. I fear that Dale's lost its charm a few years ago.

Such a great vibe in here and the servers were all each perfect people. Great layout and cleanliness on here. All the food we ordered was great. The blackened chicken and the Peanut chicken were both delicious. The jalapeño cornbread was very yummy. The Mac n cheese, hushpuppies, corn , and fried green tomatoes were all very good too.

So I had heard about Dale's and finally decided to try it out. The restaurant was very clean and the staff were super nice. We had a very large group and so thankfully they were able to accommodate us and sat us in an "exclusive" room in the back. We were very appreciative of that. Our party ordered various items from the salmon to the chicken tetrazzini to the kids chicken tender meal, etc. The general consensus was the food was just "ok." It lacked major seasoning. Even the sweet tea lacked sugar. Again the food wasn't bad, but be prepared to have to add a lot of salt and pepper. We decided to try Dale's again in the future so this review will be continued at a later time...

    Fried combo. Pickup!
    Deyon J.

I could only eat half the Dale's seafood combo plate. It was atop a mountain of fries (they could've been better). The one chicken tender was surprisingly really good. The 6 shrimp were tasty, but the coating they used was off. It was giving crushed corn flakes. I will eat the 2 catfish for dinner but they looked great. All aside, you can't hardly beat Dales cause who gives that much food for $20? Plus, I had two other sides that were included with a roll and a hushpuppy! Awesome deal, tasty meal... lol! I picked it up for lunch. Called in my order and it was ready when they said. Always good service from the cute manager at the bar who commented on my Marvel tshirt. So that's a plus too!

I came here on a Friday night because I saw that they had seafood gumbo which I love of course. When I walked in the waitress asked me did I need to place an order to go or to be seated? I told her to go. She walked away and then a man, I'm not sure if he was the manager, came around not friendly at all and gave me the menu. I told him I wanted gumbo and that was it. He rang me up. I paid for it and he walked off. He said it would be about 10 minutes, but it took way longer than that. Finally, when the gumbo arrived, there was no conversation had. Normally when you pick up your order they say "thank you for coming" or "hope you enjoy" something like that but nothing was. I did ask for some crackers and he went to go get me some. I opened my bag and he dropped them in. He just didn't seem friendly at all. I get in the car and tasted the gumbo. It didn't taste like seafood gumbo at all. It tasted more of like a vegetable soup. The green onions on top were very overpowering. I used to come here years ago and I've never had a problem. I don't know if it's a new staff or what but the vibe in there is just not friendly at all. While I was waiting on my order another man came in and placed a to go order and he said the same thing as we sat and chatted while we waited on our food.

If you want a flawlessly executed steakhouse dinner in the Birmingham area without the pretentious price tag, this is your place. I ordered the 12oz ribeye with a baked potato, and both were cooked exactly to order. My wife started with their huge, fresh house salad before tackling the massive 16oz ribeye and a fully loaded baked potato. Honestly, the 16oz cut looked like something straight out of The Flintstones--it was beautifully charred, incredibly juicy, and absolutely massive. The service matched the stellar quality of the kitchen. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and kept my sweet tea topped off the entire night (which is no easy task!). We wrapped up the evening with a slice of chocolate cake. It was literally the size of a diner-style napkin dispenser--decadent, moist, and downright delicious. Budget-wise, it's a high-end steakhouse experience, so expect to spend a little money. However, compared to other premium steakhouses around Birmingham, their pricing is incredibly fair and easily on the lower end of the fine-dining spectrum. You get amazing portions, top-tier quality, and fantastic service. Highly recommended!

Tried the dirty martini, but tasted more like an extra dirty... Not my fav but still good. Our group ordered several apps to go with the drinks. Everything was amazing. I always find the food good, but the waiters/waitresses not totally with it. The runners have more personality.

Between 3.5-4 stars Saltgrass was not very busy upon entering. They had a birthday party, about 3 other tables in the main dining room, 4 bar booths and then me at the bar. Pretty bare considering the size of the space and amount of tables throughout. The gentleman and young lady working the bar area were attentive while assisting throughout other sections of the restaurant. I was warmly greeted and promptly given both my water and bread while giving me a moment to skim through the menu. I landed on the 22 oz porterhouse (medium rare), mashed potatoes and caesar salad with dressing on the side. The portion of the side salad was smaller than I was used to at saltgrass, my steak was medium on the NY strip side and medium rare on the filet mignon side (inconsistent temperature), potatoes were fine. Overall flavor was as expected. The staff themselves were great. They seemed to work well together. Bathroom stall (first stall in Women's) does not have a lock (missing slide bolt), some toilet paper needed to be picked up (very minimal), paper towels/napkins were running low, clean otherwise.

He was friendly, efficient, and attentive but not overtly so. We ended up having ribeye with onion tangles and sweet potato, NY strip with baked potato and grilled vegetables, and cheesecake with fresh strawberry preserve. Everything was tasty actually and exceeded my expectations, to be honest. I will say the seasoning on the steak and grilled vegetables were rather heavy-handed, so if you like things lightly seasoned, you may want to mention that. Their cheesecake is better than Cheesecake Factory's to my preference. Definitely give that a try! Dejean also mentioned that they have brunch every last Sunday of the month and the menu sounds yummy. We do plan to try that out in the near future. We decided to come on a Friday night I did make reservations beforehand and I highly suggest making them especially on the weekend and you can make them online through their website. On this evening, they had Tyler Giddens playing his keyboard and singing along. He was very good and I was able to chat with his wife and she told me that he plays around town so I definitely look forward to hearing his music again. Fowler was our server and he was very attentive. We started off with the brussels sprouts and the pork belly nachos. They were both equally delicious. Last time I was here I got the chicken tacos and I was so impressed. I got them again. My son got the Mac burger, which he completely devoured. My brother got the short ribs which he enjoyed. He also got a to go Mac burger as well. This time instead of Mississippi mud pie I got the monkey bread which was very delicious and it had apples in it as well. I love how the staff gets to wear whatever they want, and they can express their style. I did visit the restrooms and they were very clean. The only negative is sometimes the parking lot is real busy and if it is, you kinda have to park across the street. It's not a far walk but a lot of the drivers at the Summit area. They tend to drive crazy. I will definitely be back. I haven't had a bad meal here since I've been coming. Not sure why, but it wouldn't let me post any more pictures.

Only took me two years but I finally had a chance to sample!…read more As much as I hated Macaroni Grill leaving, I was excited to hear that Culinary Dropout was going to be in Birmingham. Sharing a parking lot with PF Changs at the Summit, CD has ample parking and right at the corner of 280 and 459 so finding the place would not be a problem. It's actually in a great location at the Summit where you can have a nice meal, then head over to the AMC practically next door for a movie or go shopping at the shops at the Summit. Backed by James Beard-nominated restaurateur Sam Fox, CD now has 13 locations nationwide with this one opening back in March of 2024. Thus, the restaurant looks great with high vaulted ceilings, brick patterned walls and a clean contemporary look with booths and tables scattered throughout. There's a nice large bar that serves beer, wine and cocktails. Above the bar are large screen tvs and to the side is a small carved out area with a small stage for live entertainment. They can entertain group dining and with the tvs, bar and a stage, a nice gathering can be had for all. Outdoor covered seating is also available making a cool weather brunch outside a nice option. Their menu is diverse but comprehensive and include everything sandwiches and soups to pastas and burgers. Some of the stand-outs on their menu include Detroit Pizza, Fried Chicken, Rainbow Trout, Roasted Salmon, Beer Battered Fish & Chips, Korean Style Ribeye, Meatloaf and 36 Hour Slow Roasted Pork Ribs marinated in jalapeno BBQ sauce. One of my favorites was the Soft Pretzels & Provolone Fondue starter that I had heard so much about. The bowl of round pretzel balls coated with just the right amount of salt arrived soon after our drinks. A small little cast iron bowl filled with provolone cheese rested on a base with a tea light underneath to keep the cheese warm. Tearing open a pretzel ball, dipping in the cheese... Yom Yom Yom Yom! Our table ordered Fish & Chips, Prime Rib Dip sandwich and Fried Chicken. I tried some of Jeff's beer battered fish. Fried to a beautiful golden brown, the crispy batter hid a tender, flaky cod (I believe) that was delicious. Tammy got the prime rib dip sandwich. It arrived with a small cup of au jus, fries and a slice of pickle. Tammy enjoyed her sandwich but wished there was a little more fontina cheese and horseradish creme fraiche. I sampled the fried chicken plate. Be ready to get messy with your hands because it normally consists of a leg, thigh and half of a breast. The nicely fried seasoned breaded exterior had just the right crunch revealing steaming juicy chicken underneath. Yom Yom Yom Yom. My buttermilk biscuit had a nice golden coat with a soft fluffy center. The coleslaw was also delicious. But my mash potatoes with gravy was dry. If we had received our meal 10 mins earlier, it would've been perfect. I suspect that our four top was left under the warming lamp a little too long before it was served. Prices have a wide range from 12 to 42. CD's ability to make a reservation online is a big plus. We were able to make a reservation the day of on a busy holiday weekend. It also happened to be storming during our visit and the lights even flickered for a second resetting their Direct TV and FIFA Soccer feeds, but we were fortunate that the restaurant and kitchen didn't have to close due to a power failure. It can get loud especially if they have live entertainment. The high ceiling helps with the high decibels, but CD may not be your spot for a quiet romantic dinner unless you're in one of their private rooms. Our server Eva was very attentive and never let our drinks get too low. Even the floor manager Taylor stopped by our table to welcome us. CD is a great place for a good time. They host live music, local bands, games, private dining and group celebrations. I look forward to returning and trying the Salmon next time. Welcome to Birmingham, Culinary Dropout!

After sitting there for more than 35 minutes, not a single employee acknowledged our table. No server stopped by, no one offered water, and no one checked to see if we had been helped. We were essentially invisible. I finally had to get up and speak with the hostess, who immediately moved us inside. The manager came over, apologized sincerely for the oversight, and offered us a complimentary appetizer, which I appreciated. While he handled the situation professionally once he became aware of it, it should never have reached that point in the first place. What was most disappointing wasn't the wait--it was feeling completely ignored. At a restaurant known for its exceptional service and premium dining experience, being overlooked for over half an hour without even a glass of water is unacceptable. I've always had excellent experiences at other Perry's locations, so this visit was especially surprising. If the kitchen is no longer able or willing to prepare full menu items well before closing, that policy should be clearly communicated--either through adjusted hours or by informing guests upon arrival. Otherwise, it creates the impression of inconsistent operations or a lack of coordination between management and staff. Situations like this suggest a need for clearer operational standards, better communication, and stronger staff alignment with customer service expectations. Overall, the experience reflects an opportunity for improvement in both management practices and customer hospitality.
