Don't go to this place unless you support the demeaning of the handicap, eating food from unkempt looking employees or a side of insults from the owner. Save your money and go elsewhere. My sister and I visited on a Sunday for some coffees to go. We ordered two plain lattes, nothing fancy or challenging to make. In the THIRTY minutes we waited after placing our order, I saw multiple things that were disturbing and civil rights violations! To keep it simple the owner refused to take the order of a handicapped gentleman who couldn't stand in line (he did not request to cut the line, merely for help ordering when it was his turn). Nice modern little coffee spot in the heart of main St. The name is a bit misleading because it sounds like a breakfast place but it seemed like the majority of the menu is lunch and light dinner. I'd say for comparison I'd liken it to a Panera. I got a bagel with cream cheese and a coffee which cost me $6. I like everything bagels and the toppings didn't disappoint. I spotted and tasted some caraway which is a great compliment to a bagel. The coffee was not bad but not great. I thought the breakfast sandwiches were a little steep in price as they appeared to start at about $6.50 and reach almost $10 but in honesty I didn't really scrutinize too much as I wanted just want I got. Stumbled in to the place for lunch yesterday. I had the Italian Panini and my wife had a breakfast sandwich. The panini was good but it had a lot of burned on crusty bits. I think they need to clean the panini press more often. My wife loved her sandwich. The place has nice college-town feel to it with lots of students working on their laptops. The décor is nice and not "corporate" at all. The prices are on the high side but I guess the rent is probably pretty high so I forgive them for that. read more

#1 - best bagels in Middletown - HANDS DOWN. The cheddar bagel alone, with it's dried, melted cheddar on top is great. Muffins are top notch as are breakfast sandwiches. #2 - Sandwiches are uniformly excellent. They're have enough variety to range from vegan to steak, traditional enough to be familiar and creative enough to never be boring. My personal favorite, the chicken meatloaf with grilled onions and some amazing sauce. But I've never been disappointed. #3 - Service is better than you could expect for a busy breakfast/lunch place. #4 - Ambience is relaxed, linger at an outdoor table and people watch or dine in at a casual booth, table or couch. read more

I just love this breakfast gem in Middletown. The first time I went with my boyfriend it was lightly snowing and we sat at the bar top area enjoying our breakfast with a nice hot cup of joe. My go to is the egg cheese and sausage on an English muffin - the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Their iced coffee is top notch too. I come into brew bakers all the time for coffee and occasionally a sandwich to go. Great sandwiches, decent coffee. Nice ambience and staff but the layout is slightly confusing. (Order at register, food is served, dirty dishes go where?...) They have gotten my to orders wrong once or twice but that doesn't compare to the real problem... One day I had some extra time and stayed to eat during lunch. The staff was friendly and things were moving along, until I saw an black haired older woman come in and yell at every single individual behind the counter. In front of customers! No shame! Most employers would ask their staff to see them in the back or in the office- not here! I was only a few feet away trying to eat my meal! The staff became frazzled and I'm pretty sure one of them was almost crying. I'm assuming this woman is the owner or co-owner. I've always loved this place, never had a bad experience. Service is always friendly and fast, and the food is always delicious and great quality. I recommend the chicken meatloaf sandwich or the turkey sandwich with the spinach artichoke spread. Everyone I've taken has enjoyed their food so can't really go wrong. Yeah it's pricey as others have said but I don't mind paying a little extra knowing that I'll be getting high quality food. It's not just slimy packaged-quality deli meat, it's the good stuff. I have not been here in many years and decided to meet a friend before a very early movie in Middletown. I ordered an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and coffee, and my son ordered an egg, cheese and bacon breakfast sandwich with an orange juice. Our bill was $21.00. I was surprised by the prices, but now that I have read other reviews (probably should have before coming) I see that many people think it is rather expensive for what you get. I probably wouldn't mind that much expect I have had way better breakfast sandwiches for a lot less. In addition, my coffee was not that hot. What a great breakfast and lunch place. Their specials and regular menu items are always great. Their muffins are the best, I would highly recommend the pistachio and cranberry ones. The coffee is also stellar. They use a local roaster and including 3 flavored roasts rather than the flavored syrups, which they also have. The staff is also always very friendly! read more

This review is only based on the one item I ordered, a strawberry smoothie. It was too sweet for my taste and I can normally take sweet foods quite well. The syrup, or whatever they use to make the smoothie, settled at the bottom of the cup. The service is good and overall the place seems like a good spot to sit and enjoy a coffee. So glad I came across this place. I was walking along enjoying the beautiful town and a lady sitting outside finished her sandwich and said 'that was delicious" sold me as where I was choosing for lunch. Then I saw the neat menu and said oh what a great choice. Then I met the charming fellow who took my order and felt I should have the number sweet 16 assigned to me and I would have eaten anything I was given. Quick breakfast on a Sunday morning before heading out of town. The place was busy but not full. I got the veggie bomb wrap and regretted it as it was soggy and very difficult to eat. I even tried form and knife but their tiny baskets lined with parchment paper that was soaked in vegetable juice made that challenging. After adding a bit of salt, it tasted fine. Pretty good spot for coffee and breakfasty/lunchy foods. Hard place to work, study or hang out in for long - anytime I'm there they play the WORST music and they play it as loud as possible. I've been coming to Brew Bakers for about four years. It's my go-to coffee shop in Middletown, mainly because I know the menu and feel the quality of food is pretty good (plus they offer bagels with salmon, one of my fav's). I do have to say though...do not come here for the service! Plan to wait a minimum 10 minutes just for a bagel, and triple that if you order an omelet, ect. I've also had a few experiences of the staff screwing up my order (either I received another customers order, or the kitchen simply forgot to make it). I'm not really sure how their system can be improved for faster efficiency, but from a management perspective it seems like this might be worth exploring.
