My coworkers and I like coming here for their tacos and selection of beers. We try to make our "Taco Tuesdays" a weekly event. They have pork belly tacos, shrimp tacos, steak tacos, and chicken tacos. You have to try them all, and deciding your favorite will be difficult. Also try the guacamole and chips - big chunks of avocado and really well made. Also get the deep fried pickles. You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu except for the cocktails; the focus here is on beers and they have a lot of great choices. The atmosphere is rustic and perfect for a pub with plenty of seating. Great for groups and great for dates too. I once saw a painting class being held there and it was the perfect setting. I plan on taking my date for some wine and painting, and of course the tacos. Definitely worth coming here if you are only in town for a short while and want something great to eat and drink, and definitely worth coming here again and again if you live in the area. read more

I went on a double date here last night and was blown away with how all-around spectacular brew was! Walking in, my expectations were low for this cute and comfortable gastropub. However, walking out my friends and I were already planning our next night out here! The bartenders were very insightful, especially while describing the seasonal pumpkin ales. (Which I highly recommend tasting before autumn is over!) The customer service here is on point. Our server, Steve, didn't wait on us; he befriended us and made excellent recommendations of what to try on the menu. The environment is welcoming and peaceful. The food was out of this world and the proportions were filling! The music was wonderful. (Classic rock radio). I need to go back and find out what pandora station they play! I wish I could give a zero rating. Don't spend your money here. I took my wife to dinner for our anniversary and left without tipping then got followed to our car and cussed out in the parking lot by our waitress. We came in and ordered burgers 1 hour before close. We asked beer samples, but then never had our waitress return to our table. Our burgers were served and they tasted good. After finishing dinner without a drink I waited half an hour but our waitress didn't return. I approached our waitress at the bar and asked for a check then did not tip. We asked her to please do better, and she chased us into the parking lot to our car and cussed us out as we drove away. read more

It was the Grand Opening, so our expectations were actually low. Anything other than, say, a total epic fail would have worked for us. We got to the gastropub in Chesterfield Meadows Shopping Center right about 7. The noise level was loud, probably louder than Burger Bach, but it wasn't incredibly busy. Don't get me wrong: there were people. But I counted about ten Brew uniforms for a crowd that seemed no larger than a typical Saturday's standard. We waited at the bar and enjoyed our $8 craft beer pints while waiting for a table. So far, so good... right? We get to our table, and suddenly things start getting super weird. While we were sat in a coveted corner spot, some clever smokers got the idea to set up an impromptu cig station right behind us. I asked them to move back, as they were literally blowing smoke onto our table. Thankfully, they obliged - but the smokers continued standing around us. I eventually said something to a Brew shirt, and he told me he would get the manager. (It's 2013, after all, smokers and non-smokers shouldn't have to mingle, right?) He came back eventually and informed me that only one person was smoking, and it was an e-cigarette. Uh. I suppose they'll have to wait until the butts are piling up on the side of the patio for them to handle that situation. If that was all that happened, we would have left Brew unscathed for the evening. After waiting a very long time for a second beer, the waiter reassured us that our food would be out shortly. Phew. It was 8:30, and we were both hungry. It's been an hour and a half, and we've ordered two hamburgers and french fries. As I'm drinking my second beer, our server comes out and very matter-of-factly states that they have no more hamburger meat. "But you said it was about to come out... you just said..." "Sorry." So, no tortilla chips while we mull this over. No suggestions on what could be whipped up for us super fast to save us all from imminent starvation. Now I'm feeling like the girl from "Orange is the New Black" - Did I insult Red back in the kitchen? Will I ever eat again? Since they have run out of beef, it becomes apparent that it's the same as running out of food. We're done. We're hungry; it's 9:00 pm. Grand opening = A grander disaster than it should be allowed to be. I am from New York, and restaurants and bars open all the time. You prepare, and you make customer service your top priority. Not feeding us at all after two hours shouldn't have even been an option. My father owned a restaurant here in Richmond for a few years, and he would have been frantically racing up and down the aisles of Martin's buying up the ground beef. What a grand disappointment. Once the waiter delivered the bad news, I followed him inside to see what I owed them so we could get out of there and forage for food. I overheard him telling another Brew shirt that he had two "angry chicks outside" - I said, "Damn right you have two angry chicks outside!" They picked up the tab for our three beers, and I tipped our server well anyway - because never take a restaurant's irresponsibility out on the people trying to do their jobs. And that was that. It was late, especially by Chesterfield standards, so we had to drown our sorrows over a barrel of peanuts at the Texas Roadhouse. But hey, at least food came out. read more

The beer was cold and waitpersons helpful - which was good because the beer selection was HUGE! I dined here with our son, his fiancée and a brother in law. We enjoyed our burgers (including a Vegan bean burger) immensely and the fries were delicious. A big fav were the sweet potato chips fried up on premises. I was very excited to hear of Brew opening in my little piece of Chesterfield. Chester was in need of a place such as the concept of Brew. I wanted to wait a decent amount of time after their opening to patron the place as I almost always have a bad experience close to the debut of a new restaurant. Three months after opening seemed fair. After reading the reviews on yelp, I had some reservations regarding the service but was excited to try the food. Unfortuantely, we ended up with Jennifer as our server. The previous reviews are a great account of her hospitality.. or lack of. Let me just say it has been a very long time since I felt the need to tip less than 20%. Leaving her 10% was a struggle, but at some point the service should truly reflect in the tip and at the very least, the server should realize this and pony up a better experience for their customers going forward. There may have been a total of 15 patrons at the establishment including our table of 4. One would think that better service would be available to us considering the lack of bodies taking up the server's time. Jennifer forgot to put in an order so our food came out separately. Jennifer never once took an empty glass or beer bottle from the table. She also forgot the side of ketchup that was ordered with the meal not once but three times. Needless to say, she never brought the ketchup. From the initial drink order until they hit the table took more than 10 minutes... and were watered down upon their arrival. The food, however, was truly delicious and perfect portions. Our group had the guacomole, cheese fritters, and the Merlot. All were very tasty and I would definitely order them to go in the future. Unfortunately, I ordered sweet potato FRIES (which are listed on the menu) as my side with the sandwich and Jennifer failed to mention that they would actually be sweet potato curls... which are nothing like fries. Oh, I don't drink beer so I cannot comment on this aspect personally. However, my father-in-law was impressed with the beer menu and the beer that he ordered. He asked what kind of stouts Brew carried and Jennifer responded that they did not have any. Once the menu was reviewed, he found 5 stouts, and ordered one of them. One would assume that a server at a gastropub would be knowledgable of the beer menu... If I could give 2.5 stars for the food experience alone, I would. Brew could be a great establishment but I would totally recommend finding better wait staff or having a bar back deliver the alcoholic beverages since the wait staff have their own agenda... which obviously does not include providing efficient customer service. read more

Thanks to RVA Sandwich week I discovered this gem. I had the Late Summer Berry Chicken Sandwich which comes with shredded chicken, bacon, gruyere, arugula and a fresh mixed berry compote. Delicious. I also had a side of potato salad and that did not disappoint. Parking was easy and service was fast. It was a cute setup and they even had outdoor seating. I have a feeling the rest of their food isn't bad either. I don't think gastropubs are capable of being a disappointment. My husband enjoyed the sandwich so much that he came back a second time and even brought a couple of friends, who also admired the sandwich. read more

My parents live in Chesterfield now, and when we came for the Holidays they took me and my wife here for lunch. Now, let's be honest Chesterfield, Virginia is kind of a void of culinary delights, peppered with Applebee's, Little Caesars and Waffle House..but hey at least they have a WaWa! Anyway onto Brew... I was really surprised this place was empty for lunch. It was a Saturday afternoon and there was hardly anyone in there. When we walked in, it struck me as a cool little place with a great beer variety, ton of craft beers. The bartender/waiter was incredibly friendly and helpful and even said no when I ordered a certain beer, he said I'd hate it and it's horrible, and suggested something else and it was fantastic. I ordered a blackened burger, but they were out of gorgonzola so I got goat cheese instead, it was awesome, a really tasty burger! The bun, burger and cheese were all really well balanced, a tinier patty than I would have liked but overall fantastic. I love how the fries come with a dipping sauce of your choice. For a french fry lover this is heaven, I got the sriracha sauce and it was awesome!! Prices were all really fair for what you get. I hope this place does well so when I come back to visit the family I can stop in for a few beers and a burger at the bar. Really glad this place is in Chesterfield!! read more

I really want to love this place. The flavors are very good. The concept is good. But they fail to miss the mark. We hadn't been for awhile. We went a couple weeks ago, great service and new manager said he was doing his best to help recoup from some poor Yelp reviews. They over cooked my burger as well as my wife's. Cooking 101....if you can't hit your meat temps, you can't cook. Either way I gave a good review based upon very good customer service. Plus was given a gift card for cost of a poorly cooked burger. We went back last night, with high expectations. Now....the place is called BREW. Brew is a common nickname for beer. What did they not have much of last night???? BEER. I would say 75%-80% of selections on the beer menu were "Kicked" meaning out.....How can you call yourself a BREW and not have a good selection of brew. I placed the same order as I did last visit......The Lagar burger - Medium Rare. Albeit Juicy in the middle.....It was cooked well done. ZERO Pink in the middle.....My wife asked for medium.......ZERO pink as well, and not really that juicy. Either way, very disappointing, and I still want to really enjoy this place. But then I read their laundry list of Health Department Infractions.......If you have an hour or two you can get some reading in. Wow. Wish we had places like this near us. Amazing beer selection, great food and a super friendly bartender. We stopped in on a Monday which is half price burger day. We got a really, really good burger (IPA) for $5 with delish hand cut fries. And they even split the plate for us!! Also had the fried pickles and peppers. Yummo. Lunch menu is smaller so we recommend going for dinner, but the beers were reasonably priced and the options excellent. I'll be honest, when friends of mine invited me to lunch at Brew for some grub and 'beer school,' I was pretty hesitant. I mean, really, Chesterfield? Beer school? Excellent food? Uh, really? But, no, really. Really, really, really. Brew is, hand's down, the best restaurant in this portion of Chesterfield County. The food is fabulous, the beer is amazing, and the service is stellar. I ordered a Panini-styled sandwich with the cucumber salad, along with a crisp west coast IPA and prior to, I was fortunate enough to be a part of the 'Beer School' experience, which allowed me to try about 8 different brews in shot-glass formation. The experience was excellent, the food was amazing, the beer was perfection and the service (Thanks, James! :) ) was superb. Recommend, recommend, recommend. If you are considering this place, perhaps hesitant and apprehensive, throw your biases and judgments to the side and visit this place. It's that excellent. read more

Went there with high expectations. Friendly welcome and got a patio seat immediately but then we were ignored by 3 servers for 15 minutes. Finally had to get the attention of one of the servers to order a round of beers. We were told that our assigned server would be back with the beers. Our server never showed up until 15-20 minutes later. Beers were delivered by someone other than the server that took our order. When "our" server cane to our table he attempted to give a lame excuse of being busy. The patio was half empty. This same server also got the order wrong for the table next to us. I just recently returned to the area and had a dentist appointment in the area so learned of this place via Yelp-I ordered the triple for takeout around 3pm, cooked medium and was told it would be ready in 10-15. Having noted the reviews that mentioned slow service, I waited 20 minutes and then went to pick it up. It wasn't ready yet, and I ended up waiting almost another 20 minutes until it was handed over-no big deal, I browsed the menu, looked around, etc., but seeing as I was the only customer, they couldn't possibly have started cooking my order til after I got there, slightly annoying, I ordered takeout because I have somewhere to be. Having said all that, my burger was quite tasty-it was cooked perfectly medium, which was a refreshing surprise, but strangely was not even hot enough to have melted the cheese atop the patty. Still, I enjoyed it. The fries were also very good, and I tried the garlic aioli, which in this case was just a cup of mayo with a roasted garlic clove plopped on top-maybe this batch didn't get mixed properly. I went back last week and ate in with two friends-this time, I ordered the stout burger-it was cooked well done this time despite my request of medium, but again was quite good. The garlic aioli was much more appetizing and my friend who ordered the pilsner burger raved about it. What we didn't enjoy nearly as much were the crab cake balls, which came out burnt, and with only 4 bites (literally) to the order, which I found pretty stingy at $8 a plate. Overall, an inconsistent experience. If I'm in the area, I may go back as I liked the burgers, the staff were nice and I love the idea, but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

We tried this place Sunday, and were pleasantly surprised. The reviews were not all so positive, but when he had driven by previously, they were packed! We decided to have a mini adventure and check it out! It is decorated well, with some awesome bar- height tables built from thick slabs of marble/granite on top of wine barrels (maybe). Very cool! We were greeted by a friendly hostess who turned out to be our server, she informed us they were serving brunch (YAY!)- until 3 pm on Sunday. I am not a beer drinker, really- ( I have found that I only like the flavor of lambics, so far), BUT they have an extensive beer list, and James (I believe that was the bartender's name) was extremely knowledgeable and suggested a ginger beer. Yum! I found a beer I like! :) The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! We left stuffed! Between the three of us we had: biscuits and gravy, salmon cakes, and a sausage/egg panini. My husband ordered ketchup for his potatoes before trying them, and after tasting them declared he did not need the ketchup! I tried them with the ketchup- it was yummy, and is made right there in the restaurant! I learned all of their sauces are made in house, everything is prepared in house! They don't even use microwaves to heat things up! That is so cool, and rare in the restaurant business nowadays! Brew is a great location for good conversation and good times with friends. The interior and decor makes you feel welcomed and comfortable. The service staff is also very friendly and attentive. I came in once before but it was a Saturday night and it was jumping. I needed a little less noise so I went to another location to eat. I'm here now, it's lazy Sunday but nothing is lazy about the place. They are playing some great alternative rock, I had some samplers, ordered my beer and I'm just enjoying this day light savings time beautiful Sunday evening. Average. For the same type of food at a better price, I recommend Ruby Tuesdays or TGI Fridays. No really. The service was excellent and had a good crowd and a nice pub feel. The decor was stilted but didn't detract from enjoying a great selection of beers. Biggest disappointment of the night was the Fried Calamari. You could taste the freshness but also the undercooked center - not appealing. The Angus sliders were okay. I hate to say it - the best thing I had was the fries. I stopped into BREW today for a late lunch and I could not have had a better experience. Being a "craft guy" from NY... I am spoiled; so when I found this place I was psyched. Beer list was fun and different and the beer brat I had hit the spot! My bartender was great, my beers were delicious and the food exceeded expectations. Before I left, the owner Karen introduced herself to me and could not have been nicer. She asked about my experience and genuinely cared. We talked beer for a bit and she was very knowledgable. Came here because the group wanted beer. The menu is slim however my order was great! I got the Pilsner Burger with sweet potato curls. It was really really good! I went with a large group (about 10) for a meetup event. Service was kinda slow as there seemed to be one waitress on a Thursday night, but she was nice and remembered our names. However, the burger left me filling kinda sick- im on day 2 now of feeling icky. Also the homemade ketchup was not good at all (in my opinion) tasted like marinara sauce so I asked for ranch but that also wasn't great. We visited the Brew American Gastropub after the Ragnar Race with a group of 13. From the outside it looks small and not very inviting. Its in a corner of a strip mall and looked closed from afar. Once inside the Brew pub was clean and had a pleasant atmosphere. Our server Ray was excellent. She was on point with our requests and made sure we were not lacking anything. I especially like how she was able to modify her voice to counter the boisterous atmosphere at the bar. Cole had the grilled cheese with fries which was very good. The bread was pan fried in butter as it should be. The fries were excellent. I know because I was kinda stealing them from Cole when he wasn't looking. The calamari was a bit over fried for my liking. The flavor was there though. The garlic aioli was delicious. The onion rings were excellent. Yum.. craving them as I write this..The steak kabobs were some of the best I have had. Perfectly soft ...5 star. I can't give my overall experience 5 stars because of the Steak sandwich we ordered. It was not good. Amy and I expected something like a French dip sandwich or cheese steak. Our sandwich was dry and flavorless. A strong horseradish sauce and au jus would have helped this sandwich out. The prices were moderate around $10 for each entree we ordered. The beer selection looked incredible. I love how it was written in chaulk on the walls too. I noticed that moat of the rest of group got the burgers and sweet potato fries. They looked really good too.
