We stopped here for a chill dinner on New Year's Eve prior to festivities nearby. We were seated right away in a booth toward the back, which I appreciated given the cold temps. Our server was kind and prompt, and we ordered several items including gimlets, an egg salad wrap, the cuban sandwich, clam strips, and a slice of strawberry cake to split. Everything was quite good, and the gimlets were STRONG. I was so glad I was not the driver. Prices were reasonable and the menu was expansive. Dropped in for a late Saturday lunch and were seated immediately. Northside is a nice neighborhood haunt with a large central bar and booths up each side. The menu is decent, with a number of salads, burgers, sandwiches, and some surprising items. Most items were in the $15 to $18 range. We have had their fish and chips before and found it to be a good version. On this day we chose lumpia from the appetizer list, an A-1 & Gorgonzola burger with potato salad, and a cuban with onion rings. We love lumpia and sadly see it on few menus. This version was crispy, hot, and not greasy, and it came with a decent sweet and sour sauce to dip in. The burger was drippy and sharp tasting -- exactly what you'd expect from the name. The potato salad was okay, nothing special and definitely needs seasoning. The cuban was very flavorful but a bit dry, which was remedied by extra mustard. The rings were hot and cooked perfectly. With two iced teas the bill came in about $70. A bit much for a lunch but not outrageous based on our order. Ambiance -- very casual, definitely focused on bar service but the food doesn't suffer. There is live entertainment some evenings, with a decent music playlist coming through the speakers during the day. Two gender specific one-seater restrooms with changing stations. The patrons were everyone from post-college aged people sipping mixed drinks to retired couples eating lunch together to the bar denizens. I came here with a group of friends and overall had a disappointing experience. When our food came out, I tried the cowboy burger I ordered and it tasted really strange. I asked one of my friends to try it as well, and she agreed that something about it didn't taste right. We asked the waiter if it could be removed from the bill, but he said he couldn't because I had already taken a bite. He did say he would check with the manager, but we were told the manager said no. The manager never came over to our table to speak with us directly, which was frustrating. Apparently because two bites were taken, I still had to pay for the burger. It was disappointing because there's really no way to know if something tastes right without taking a bite first. I wish the situation had been handled better, especially with some communication from the manager. read more

We came in for the nfl games this past weekend and sat at the bar. I wish we would have gotten the bartenders name as he was SO friendly! We ordered a couple beers a MASSIVE quesadilla (I forgot to take a picture) and some steamed spiced shrimp! Both were awesome and we will be back! read more

Never again! Been a couple times previously for a quick in and out lunch with work folks. It was always fine - nothing to write home about. This last time I stopped in for another quick lunch. A couple people sitting at the bar; not busy at all. To start, they don't serve sweet tea! I was aghast. lol But I stayed and ordered a Pepsi that turned out to be half flat. Got th menu and the interior of the menu was gross - dirty and sauce and something else on there. I overlooked it and ordered a Cuban that came out over done as hell. It was toasted too long in the panini press. Parts of the bread were burnt and the inside was dry as the Mojave as I said on insta and it lacked any real flavor. The fries were hot and crispy - a plus. The ketchup tasted wrong as hell. Not rancid but on its way. Well? I finish the fries and under the fries were not one but TWO hairs. Weren't mine, I'm bald! Tell my server and say, I think the kitchen needs a little reminder to wear hair nets or something. I don't make a big deal about it cuz at this point it's whatever. He says he'll "yell" at them. Ummm...no yelling isn't necessary, just a reminder - I've worked in kitchens I know what it's like. He takes the plate away and lets me know he "yelled" at them because it was completely unacceptable. I tell him again, no yelling was necessary just a reminder and he replied with, "nah it's okay, I can do what I want around here." So that alone left a nasty taste in my mouth. I never asked for a discount and didn't fully expect one given I ate the thing without complaining but as someone who's worked and run restaurants I definitely would not have charged full price. I'd say it was a waste of 30 minutes but I was waiting for the pharmacy to reopen, but it was definitely a waste of $22!! Never again. read more

That being said, they are a little busy. I'm not really hungry but I wanted something so I will order the crab dip & a cup of homemade chili with a sweet tea. Ok- I was told they don't have the crab dip anymore. They haven't updated the menu yet. They also don't have sweet tea. So I opted for nothing to drink and ordered lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was ok. Would I order it again? Probably not. I also think it has imitation Lobster meat. It doesn't taste real. $9.08 Maybe I'll come back when I'm hungry and try the Ruben. read more

We stopped in for a simple birthday lunch hoping this would be a great place to eat. It took a couple of minutes before anyone came out to seat us, which we thought was reasonable. We thought it was a cute place, with plenty of seating, but to many tables in the limited space. The server came to take our order, we all ordered sandwiches, the sides would be an additional cost. However, our server disappeared for the reminder of the time, we never saw her again after that point. After the half hour we wondered if we were going to get our drinks. An hour passed, a different person came out and asked if our order was taken, we told him the other server had already taken our order. He then told us the order was not put in and we would have to place our order again. They were aware we have waited over an hour and that we have not received our drinks, but if we reordered, we would be waiting another 20 - 30 minutes or so. This was told to us, with a very casual manner of an "unconcerned" way of fixing this, with no apologizes or explanation of any sort. It was not a busy time of day, with only a couple of tables being occupied. This would have been our first visit at this place of business, so we were pretty excited to try it out. However, we opted out of reordering and we are not sure if we would return. read more

We nestled into a cozy booth and pored over the menu. I opted for the steak quesadillas and let me tell you, they were terrific! The steak was tender and it's was super cheesy!! I'd definitely order this again!! (I had mine sans tomatoes). My friend ordered the meatloaf sandwich which was humongous! She's a petite lady, and this sandwich towered over her! Visted family who grew up in the neighborhood. Stopped here due to its proximity. What a lucky break. Wanted takeout however the owner I assume asked if he could open the outdoor seating for my wife and dog. . He could not have been more welcoming. The buffalo chicken wrap was grilled and was one of the best I ever had. Well they advertised they were going to be open on Easter Sunday. I went to there website it said they were open. I took an Uber and got there they were closed. They were lightly battered and Fried crispy on the outside but soft and cooked to perfection on the inside. Had the Northside Grill Burger with cheddar and a side of onion rings ! Unfortunately, didn't remember to take pictures of any of our food as my daughter and I were busy catching up with my childhood friend and her daughter. The food was OUTSTANDING! I had a cup of the crab 'bisque', but it wasn't a typical bisque....it was more thick, plenty of crab (no fillers here!), I would say it was more of a chowder-type consistency. It was one of the best crab soups I've ever had..it reminded me of Rudee's on the Inlet's She crab Soup (Virginia Beach), to be honest...THE best She Crab Soup I've found for years...I digress! The girls had Chicken Parm Sandwiches, which were huge (served with fries) - they had to take some home, as they couldn't finish them; my friend and I had burgers. I had the Cheddar Bacon (perfect crispness- SO important to have the bacon crisp!), w LTM cooked perfectly to my request (medium). She enjoyed hers as well- so would say they were fantastic. We almost skipped dessert, but decided to share the chocolate cake - SO glad, as it was HUGE! It shouldn't be missed, though- delicious- just PREPARE to SHARE! The server (very jovial guy w a beard - wished I had written down his name) - wonderful service - we were so busy talking and he was checking on us, but unobtrusive...wonderful personality...kept us laughing! It was a great experience overall: great service- great food! The bar is large and there were a good amount of people sitting at the bar. Surely fine for kiddos, as we were there early on a weekday evening (I'm late posting review ) but just keep that in mind if it's a weekend night. This has become our "local." We moved to Ginter Park last December and are probably here once a week. The menu is pretty standard- sandwiches, burgers, salads. There are typically specials - pork chops (mmm) steak and/or salmon. Staff is generally friendly, and it's clear there's a substantial group of regulars. We've never had a bad meal. If I have a suggestion for improvement, it's this - for heavens sake figure out the draft beer situation- offer something other than IPAs, and don't rely on paper labels taped to the taps! read more

I have been here probably 5 times over the last 2 years and it has always been good. This is one of the few places that I have ordered something different every time I have been here. I have had their chili, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, and hamburgers. All has been good and cooked to order exactly i I have asked. It's a small close knit kind of restaurant, and if you don't get here by 12 o'clock you probably will not have somewhere to sit because it gets packed quick. The chili is that I've had here in particular stands out. It's from scratch for sure, as is everything else I have ever had. This service has always been good here. I really, really meant to order a healthy salad at the Northside Grille today. But, it just wasn't in the cards. The enticing selection of sandwiches that ran down the center of the menu tore me away from the likes of "house" and "Caesar." All your favorites are there, reuben, burger, pork barbecue, buffalo chicken, and I could go on. I went for the Cuban. Turkey, ham, cheese, pickles and whole-grain mustard were packed into a Cuban-style roll and pressed. The meat was thick and well flavored, the cheese was gooey, the pickles were tangy and the mustard was just awesome. I loved this sandwich. For my one side I chose to pay the extra dollar for onion rings after seeing gorgeous piles of golden O's arriving at tables nearby. They were hot, freshly fried, beer-battered and delicious. I couldn't stop eating them (hmm, why aren't I thin?). At least I was too full for the enticingly huge wedges of carrot cake that were sitting inside a chilled case. We ate our meal on the spacious patio that's packed with white umbrellas, big wood tables, hanging lights and other charming decor. The inside is brightly colored with exposed brick and local art. All in all, Northside Grille is exactly what a neighborhood joint needs to be: casual, friendly and fun with simple, good food. There's also a big bar in the center of the restaurant. I saw several Starr Hill brews on tap: yay local beer! I'll definitely be heading back for more patio lunches and relaxed dinners. I'm a fan of Northside Grille, not so much for the food, but for the bar and the fact that it's truly a neighborhood joint. The bar boasts a solid selection of beers including Hardywood on tap, which is always a winner in my book. The bartenders are also super friendly, keep your glasses filled, and know how to mix a good drink. The large, u-shaped bar is a solid place to post up for happy hour and stay into the evening. The food is your typical American soups/salads/sandwiches/burgers with a few random dishes thrown in like fish tacos and chicken carbonara. I've eaten the crab bisque (just what you'd expect - very heavy and a tad sweet, so I can only eat so much in one sitting), the egg salad sandwich (not my favorite, a little bland for my tastes... but I'm picky with my egg salad), and the nachos (standard pub nachos). While there's nothing wrong with the food, there's also nothing special about it. When I'm looking for a dinner destination, I usually want something that has the potential to wow me. Although this isn't that spot, it does maintain a special place in my heart for it's friendly, casual, no frills vibe and it's awesome bartenders.
